Keanu Reeves

  • Born September 2 , 1964 · Beirut, Lebanon
  • Birth name Keanu Charles Reeves
  • Height 6′ 1″ (1.86 m)
  • Keanu Charles Reeves, whose first name means "cool breeze over the mountains" in Hawaiian, was born September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon. He is the son of Patric Reeves , a showgirl and costume designer, and Samuel Nowlin Reeves, a geologist. Keanu's father was born in Hawaii, of Native Hawaiian and Chinese ancestry while Keanu's mother is originally from Essex England. After his parents' marriage dissolved, Keanu moved with his mother and younger sister, Kim Reeves , to New York City, then Toronto. Stepfather #1 was Paul Aaron , a stage and film director - he and Patricia divorced within a year, after which she went on to marry (and divorce) rock promoter Robert Miller. Reeves never reconnected with his biological father. In high school, Reeves was lukewarm toward academics but took a keen interest in ice hockey (as team goalie, he earned the nickname "The Wall") and drama. He eventually dropped out of school to pursue an acting career. After a few stage gigs and a handful of made-for-TV movies, he scored a supporting role in the Rob Lowe hockey flick Youngblood (1986) , which was filmed in Canada. Shortly after the production wrapped, Reeves packed his bags and headed for Hollywood. Reeves popped up on critics' radar with his performance in the dark adolescent drama, River's Edge (1986) , and landed a supporting role in the Oscar-nominated Dangerous Liaisons (1988) with director Stephen Frears . His first popular success was the role of totally rad dude Ted "Theodore" Logan in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) . The wacky time-travel movie became something of a cultural phenomenon, and audiences would forever confuse Reeves's real-life persona with that of his doofy on-screen counterpart. He then joined the casts of Ron Howard 's comedy, Parenthood (1989) and Lawrence Kasdan 's I Love You to Death (1990) . Over the next few years, Reeves tried to shake the Ted stigma with a series of highbrow projects. He played a slumming rich boy opposite River Phoenix 's narcoleptic male hustler in My Own Private Idaho (1991) , an unlucky lawyer who stumbles into the vampire's lair in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) , and Shakespearean party-pooper Don John in Much Ado About Nothing (1993) . In 1994, the understated actor became a big-budget action star with the release of Speed (1994) . Its success heralded an era of five years in which Reeves would alternate between small films, like Feeling Minnesota (1996) and The Last Time I Committed Suicide (1997) , and big films like A Walk in the Clouds (1995) and The Devil's Advocate (1997) . (There were a couple misfires, too: Johnny Mnemonic (1995) and Chain Reaction (1996) .) After all this, Reeves did the unthinkable and passed on the Speed sequel, but he struck box-office gold again a few years later with the Wachowski siblings' cyberadventure, The Matrix (1999) . Now a bonafide box-office star, Keanu would appear in a string of smaller films -- among them The Replacements (2000) , The Watcher (2000) , The Gift (2000) , Sweet November (2001) , and Hardball (2001) - before The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) were both released in 2003. Since the end of The Matrix trilogy, Keanu has divided his time between mainstream and indie fare, landing hits with Something's Gotta Give (2003) , The Lake House (2006) , and Street Kings (2008) . He's kept Matrix fans satiated with films such as Constantine (2005) , A Scanner Darkly (2006) , and The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) . And he's waded back into art-house territory with Ellie Parker (2005) , Thumbsucker (2005) , The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) , and Henry's Crime (2010) . Most recently, as post-production on the samurai epic 47 Ronin (2013) waged on, Keanu appeared in front of the camera in Side by Side (2012) , a documentary on celluloid and digital filmmaking, which he also produced. He also directed another Asian-influenced project, Man of Tai Chi (2013) . In 2014, Keanu played the title role in the action revenge film John Wick (2014) , which became popular with critics and audiences alike. He reprised the role in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) , taking the now-iconic character to a better opening weekend and even more enthusiastic reviews than the first go-around. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous

Keanu Reeves

Recent News

Keanu Reeves (born September 2, 1964, Beirut , Lebanon) is a Canadian actor who found his greatest success in comedy, science-fiction, and action movies.

Reeves’s mother was an English performer and costume designer, and his father was a Hawaiian geologist. They divorced when he was a young child, and he lived with his mother. The family moved first to Sydney , then to New York City , and finally to Toronto , where Reeves grew up. He struggled in school and attended four different high schools, one of which was focused on the arts, before leaving to pursue an acting career. His first professional appearance was in a 1984 episode of the comedy series Hangin’ In .

Following more roles in TV movies and shows, Reeves made his film debut as a hockey player in Youngblood (1986), set in the world of junior hockey in Canada . Later that year he gained notice for his portrayal of a disaffected teen in the bleak drama River’s Edge and as the son of an alcoholic father ( Andy Griffith ) in the TV movie Under the Influence . Reeves appeared in several movies over the next two years, most prominently Dangerous Liaisons (1988), before starring in the slacker comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), about two high-school students who time-travel for a history project. The movie was an unexpected and enduring hit. Later in 1989 Reeves also acted in Ron Howard ’s Parenthood .

After providing Ted’s voice in the 1990 animated series Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures , Reeves starred in three movies in 1991, playing an FBI agent in Kathryn Bigelow ’s Point Break and a male prostitute in Gus Van Sant ’s My Own Private Idaho , which also starred River Phoenix , and reprising the role of Ted in the sequel Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey . He later appeared in Kenneth Branagh ’s Much Ado About Nothing (1993). Reeves made several disappointing movies before playing a bomb expert in Speed (1994). The thriller was a blockbuster, and it made him an action star.

Reeves then appeared in a series of films that failed to connect with both critics and moviegoers. These included the science-fiction movie Johnny Mnemonic (1995), the romantic drama A Walk in the Clouds (1995), and the crime comedy Feeling Minnesota (1996). Somewhat more successful was The Devil’s Advocate (1997), in which he played a lawyer who falls under the spell of the Devil ( Al Pacino ). In 1999 Reeves reached a new level of stardom with his portrayal of Neo in the sci-fi cult classic The Matrix (1999). The blockbuster, which was also critically acclaimed, launched a hugely successful franchise that included two sequels (both 2003 ).

Continuing to pursue diverse roles, Reeves appeared in the sports movies The Replacements (2000) and Hardball (2001) before playing a supporting role in the romantic comedy Something’s Gotta Give (2003) and in the coming-of-age drama Thumbsucker (2005). He also starred as a demonologist in Constantine (2005) and a would-be bank robber in Henry’s Crime (2010). In 2013 he made his directorial debut with Man of Tai Chi (2013), about an underground martial-arts fight club; he also starred in the drama. Reeves then received praise for his performance as a classic antihero in the title role of John Wick (2014). The movie was a huge hit, and sequels followed ( 2017 , 2019 , and 2023).

Reeves’s later films included The Whole Truth (2016), To the Bone (2017), Destination Wedding (2018), and Always Be My Maybe (2019). In 2020 he returned to his first movie franchise, starring in the well-received Bill & Ted Face the Music . Reeves turned to another iconic series when he reprised the role of Neo in The Matrix Resurrections (2021).

Matthew Perry Is Removing Keanu Reeves’ Name from His Best-Selling Memoir

The Friends actor faced backlash for comments he made about Keanu Reeves in his 2022 book.

Perry, who questioned why Reeves “still walks among us” in his book Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing , announced Saturday at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books he would omit Reeves’ name from all future editions. The book is available in hardcover, e-book, and audiobook formats, but the paperback version won’t be released until June 4, 2024.

The sitcom actor, 53, already apologized for the references prior to the memoir’s release on November 1, saying the use of Reeves’ name was random and without malice. But he decided to go a step further with this decision.

“I said a stupid thing. It was a mean thing to do,” Perry told the crowd on Saturday, according to CNN.

What Did Perry Say About Reeves?

keanu reeves smiling while holding a marker to sign autographs

In the book, which quickly became a New York Times and Amazon bestseller, Perry openly discusses his rise to acting fame, dating history, and battles with alcohol and drug addiction.

In one section, he pays tribute to late actor River Phoenix , his co-star in the 1988 film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon . But in his attempt to offer praise, Perry also takes a shot at Reeves.

“It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down,” Perry writes. “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us? River was a better actor than me; I was funnier. But I certainly held my own in our scenes—no small feat, when I look back decades later.”

Perry later makes a similar comment while talking about the death of comedian Chris Farley in 1997: “I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston ’s dressing room wall when I found out [about Farley’s death]. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”

When the New York Post and Variety shared excerpts of the book prior to its release, the references drew backlash from fans and celebrities like West Side Story (2021) actor Rachel Zegler, who tweeted she was “personally thrilled that keanu reeves walks among us.”

Perry said in October he is a fan of Reeves and made a mistake using his name. “I should have used my own name instead,” he said in a statement to People .

Perry further explained this weekend that he only chose Reeves for his comparison because they live on the same street.

Has Perry Talked to Reeves?

No, but Perry said at the festival Saturday he plans to personally make amends with the John Wick actor. “If I run into the guy, I’ll apologize. It was just stupid,” he said .

The changes to his memoir suggest Perry is taking the reconciliation effort seriously.

In Moon Unit Zappa’s memoir, ‘Earth to Moon,’ famous names collide with family trauma

Earth to Moon

By Moon Unit Zappa Dey Street Books: 368 pages, $29.99 If you buy books linked on our site, The Times may earn a commission from Bookshop.org , whose fees support independent bookstores.

One night in 1979, 11-year-old Moon Unit Zappa falls asleep to the sound of her parents arguing. They argue plenty, so this isn’t unusual. Her father, Frank, is a musician and composer with a knotty, complex aural style and a seemingly insatiable appetite for sleeping with his fans. Her mother, Gail, helps him manage his business, and the two are often in conflict about money, other women or both.

But on this particular night, things spiral out of control. And after a few hours of sleep, as Zappa recalls in her new memoir, “Earth to Moon,” she’s awakened by her father standing over her bed saying, “Gail is on a rampage. I need you to hide the gun.”

The girl’s baby sister is asleep in her crib in the same room, and her two younger brothers have also been tucked in for the night. She had no idea that the family had a gun, let alone where it might be hidden. But she goes on a terrified midnight search for a firearm that may or may not have existed; she never ends up finding it. Fortunately, neither does her mother.

Book covers for August's top 10 picks

10 books to add to your reading list in August

Critic Bethanne Patrick recommends 10 promising new titles — fiction and nonfiction — to consider in August.

July 31, 2024

These are the kinds of harrowing details that populate the early pages of Zappa’s book, which features plenty of parental neglect — “My feet are just starting to heal from the time two ladies were supposed to be watching me and my feet got burned on the radiator,” she recalls of an episode that occurred when she was about 4 — as well as outright abuse, including a story about her mother handcuffing her to her younger brother Dweezil and making them listen to a recording of their own crying.

Perhaps the most telling observation about the Zappa family’s particular dysfunction comes in the form of a brief observation that only Frank’s presence could stop his young kids from fighting. “Stopping is the only solution because you can’t take up too much of his time,” she writes, making it crystal clear that the man’s children were trained to understand that his music was always his first priority.

So it’s not surprising that Zappa seeks her father’s attention by offering to sing on one of his records. The resulting collaboration, “Valley Girl,” becomes a novelty hit that catapults her out of her father’s shadow and into a brief period of pop stardom at the age of 14.

A novel co-written by Keanu Reeves is actually great (and just waiting to be adapted into his next flick)

The role of co-author China Miéville is clear in this provocative, tragic, action-packed tale of an immortal’s encounters across millennia.

July 17, 2024

“Earth to Moon” is a Hollywood book through and through, studded with tales of the boldface names Zappa encounters throughout her life, including microwaving gas station burritos during high school lunch periods with Janet Jackson. But once “Valley Girl” is released, in 1982, the memoir starts to lose its steam and its candor. Zappa paints a heartbreaking picture of the childhood that shaped her, but she’s less specific and present as her story moves into adolescence and adulthood and she tries to figure out how to deal with her trauma.

“Earth to Moon” is drawn from the author’s diaries, and it sometimes feels more like a transcription than a transformation of that material. After a teenage Zappa lightheartedly recounts the story of the handcuffing incident to a talk show host, for instance, the host informs her during a commercial break that it is not a cute story; it’s child abuse. Zappa writes that at that point she hears “an all-hands-on-deck siren blaring inside” her. But the book doesn’t grapple further with the effects of that revelation.

"Earth to Moon" by Moon Unit Zappa

The chapter immediately cuts to the following: “Then I found out Van Halen has broken up and disbanded. … The world feels positively upside down. If this amazing band can’t stay together, how can anything ever work out?” Next time we see Zappa, it’s a year later, and she’s working as an MTV veejay in New York.

The gaps and ellipses grow as the book speeds toward its conclusion. The introduction to “Earth to Moon” contains lessons Zappa has learned along the way, offering such koans as “The way out is through. Make peace with what hurts and head towards joy.” But it doesn’t ever demonstrate how or when she learned them.

Moon Unit Zappa dressed as an astronaut.

Zappa’s father died of cancer at 52, in 1993, after which her mother took control of his estate. When she died, in 2015, she cut Moon and one of her brothers out of the family business . They receive money but have no control over their father’s name and no right to use it in their work.

It’s hard not to read “Earth to Moon” as Zappa’s attempt to resist that erasure, reclaim her place in her family’s story and insist on her right to tell her version of it. It’s a noble project but an incomplete reading experience. Ultimately, “Earth to Moon” comes across less as a book than as a plea from that wounded child, still searching for someone to see her and recognize that she’s in pain.

Why Keanu Reeves frequently thinks about death

Keanu Reeves does not have any idea about 'The Matrix' reboot.

Actor Keanu Reeves  told BBC News recently, "I'm 59, so I'm thinking about death all the time. I'm young old." "Hopefully it's not crippling, but hopefully it's sensitized us to an appreciation of the breath we have, and the relationships that we have the potential to have," Reeves said.

Solomon in all of his wisdom offered the following insight: "It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart" (Ecclesiastes 7:2).

Keanu Reeves fully realizes that his final breath on Earth is much closer now than when he began his acting career 40 years ago. Reeves had his " breakthrough role in the science-fiction comedy "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989), and he reprised his role in the sequel "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" (1991)."

Movies provide some temporary entertainment in a world where each one of us is drawing closer every day to our own death. But unlike the starring role Keanu Reeves had as Neo in "The Matrix" (1999), life on planet Earth is far more consequential than a science fiction action film. You see, what happens on Earth stays in eternity.

The life expectancy today is about 73 years for men and about 79 years for women. It is prudent to reflect upon our mortality, especially since death is just the beginning of our eternal existence in one of two locations. No one knows more about eternity than our Creator, who said, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" (Revelation 22:13).

A few verses later God's Word provides this phenomenal invitation: "The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life" (Revelation 22:17).

Spiritual thirst is a curious thing. Those who become thirsty for God's living water discover just how easy it is to drink and receive everlasting life. Jesus said, "If a man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him" (John 7:37-38).

Keanu Reeves has worked for decades to amass a net worth of $380 million. When it comes to eternal life in Heaven, however, it is impossible to work your way into Paradise. Salvation is a gift that can only be received by faith as you trust the Savior to wash away your sins. This is why the last chapter of the Bible contains an invitation to anyone who is thirsty to "take the free gift of the water of life."

Have you taken this free gift by faith? Are you trying to work your way into Heaven, or are you relying upon the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross to pay for your sins? Your noble deeds cannot wash away a single sin, but "the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7) as we believe in Jesus as our Savior.

Keanu Reeves  said , "I went to Catholic boys' school for a year, but that was to play hockey. Religion class was quite contentious for me." Unfortunately, many people have had only a contentious experience with religion, but have never entered into a warm and loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Christians are forgiven sinners who follow Christ and seek to do His will in all things.

Christianity is often described as more of a relationship than a religion. A relationship with God begins when a person receives Jesus as Savior, whereas religion involves jumping through religious hoops as you strive to earn your way into Heaven. It is impossible to earn salvation, which is why the Messiah gave His life on the cross for our sins. The Bible declares, "If righteousness could be gained through the Law, Christ died for nothing" (Galatians 2:21).

In an interview with the Associated Press in 2005, Keanu was  asked , "What are your notions of Heaven and Hell, eternal damnation vs. eternal bliss?" Reeves said, "Well, I hope I get the bliss. And I know I'm going to have to work for it."

This notion that a person's entrance into Heaven is something you must earn is completely false. The Apostle John penned the truth about how to enter God's eternal family: "Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

You can see for yourself how often Jesus discussed Heaven and Hell by simply reading the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. You may be greatly surprised by what you discover.

Reeves hopes his frequent thoughts about death alert him to the relationships that he still has the opportunity to experience. But there is only one relationship that can get Keanu into Heaven.

Movies like “The Matrix” provide a temporary diversion and a fictional story, whereas Heaven and Hell are real places where billions of people will exist throughout eternity. God wants Keanu to know that there is only one way to escape Hell and gain entrance into Heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).

Jesus also said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)

As Keanu Reeves continues to contemplate death, what about you? Have you made your reservation in Heaven, and are you following Christ today? The clock is ticking ever closer to the day when your soul will instantly depart from your body at the moment of your death. So, where will you spend eternity?

Anime Based on Keanu Reeves' Comic Series BRZRKR Gets Official Update at SDCC

"i will become the second sith": a shock movie character was darth vader's real competition as palpatine's apprentice, ultimate marvel's new sorcerer supreme is the exact opposite of doctor strange... literally.

  • Keanu Reeves co-writes BRZRKR comic series, exploring a half-mortal, half-God cursed to endless violence and seeking truth.
  • BRZRKR to be turned into film and animated series after Reeves wins Inkpot Award at SDCC for contributions to comic world.
  • Reeves and team discuss creating the series, leaving it open-ended, and developing the character's violent fight sequences.

BRZRKR , the comic book series from BOOM! Studios, co-written by Keanu Reeves , follows the man known only as B. He is half-mortal and half-God, cursed to a never-ending life of violence. After wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker finds some sort of refuge in working for the U.S. government to fight in battles that are too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, he is promised the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence, and how to end it once and for all.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024 , Keanu Reeves was awarded the prestigious Inkpot Award. These are given to individuals for their contributions to the worlds of comics, science fiction/fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom services. The highly acclaimed comic book series is planned to be turned into not only a film but an animated series as well.

The anime adaptation of BRZRKR has finally gotten a major update ar San Diego Comic-Con after almost two years of radio silence.

Screen Rant caught up with Keanu Reeves, BRZRKR co-writer Matt Kindt, and artist Ron Garney at SDCC 2024 to discuss the comic series. Keanu and Matt reveal how their initial plot points for the series all panned out, as well as why they left it somewhat open-ended. Ron talks about how fun it was to create these incredibly violent fight sequences in the comics.

Keanu Shares The Inkpot Award With His Team

BRZRKR Poetry of Madness Variant Cover Header

Screen Rant: Congratulations on your Inkpot Award! What was that like?

Keanu Reeves: Very special. Yeah, it was really cool. And it was cool to receive that award and to be, in a way, sharing it with these gentlemen. Ron Garney: He's too gracious. He deserves it. Keanu Reeves: No, man. I'm not there without you. I'm not there without all the other artists I've worked with.

Keanu Was Worried About The End of BRZRKR From The Beginning

BRZRKR Keanu Reeves comic books

Screen Rant: Matt and Keanu, was this the arc you always saw happening, or did it evolve over the course of the comics for B.?

Matt Kindt: We had a lot of ideas and then we sort of whittled it down to a big picture, and so we had signposts, we had things we needed to get to. And then, within that, we started to just narrow down issue one. Like, what's that? Issue two. And then sort of work our way to the end. But I think at the end we had ideas for the end, but we hadn't settled on what it was going to be, but I think the process of doing it dictates really what it's going to be at the end. So I wasn't too worried about it. I was a little worried, but I think we did all right. Keanu Reeves: I was worried. Matt Kindt: You were worried. You were worried. Keanu Reeves: We talked about that. We were talking about the end almost from the beginning. The whole time.

Screen Rant: What was the importance to you for keeping it kind of open-ended at the end?

Keanu Reeves: It felt like it was open-ended, but the relationship between the lead character and Diana, the scientist, kind of got cemented to, for me, that was a launch point. That journey was over and so much had been revealed. It's like their relationship. Matt Kindt: So there's an ending there, but I think the very nature of what he is makes it so how are you going to end it? He's not ending, right? There's a way to never end it. Ron Garney: Yeah. You don't end it after 80,000 years and all of a sudden, okay, it's all over now. He's dead. Great. Perfect. It just doesn't work like that. Keanu Reeves: I know. But we do kill him. He dies. I mean, the character dies and then comes back, but then comes back. He gets egged.

Screen Rant: Was that something you always planned on doing?

Keanu Reeves: It became part of the what if, and how. The egg, I think, we came up with together. Matt Lindt: You were explaining how, at the very beginning, this happens. Ron Garney: It's weird though, because in the last book, there's a scene where, I don't want to give too much away, but that kind of happens and it's like, how does that happen? Because he's being eaten away and all of a sudden, wait a minute, that's pretty interesting. I make it look like a gnarly egg too. It's not a beautiful egg. It's gnarly looking.

Playing With The Incredible Action Was "Dynamic" For Ron

BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves sample page vertical 2

Screen Rant: How was it for you, Ron, getting to play with all the incredible action? It's insane and violent.

Ron Garney: Dynamic? Insane. Dynamic. That's a good word. That's me. Insane and violent. Not dynamic. That's arguable. But no. Yeah, I really have to get my head into it, and it takes me a bit to get my ball rolling on it. I have to absorb it all, and I go through it and I jump ahead. I'll start working on it, and then I jump ahead of it and then I go back. Because I tend to, sometimes when you absorb it all, you miss little things. So it's such an epic thing that it requires a lot of energy and focus to get in there and draw armor, this big Genghis Khan's armor and all the soldiers and things like that. It's a very visceral experience to sit and draw these things.

The Sad Keanu Meme Was An Accident

Sad Keanu

Screen Rant: I love the sad Keanu meme being included. How did including that come about?

Ron Garney: Oh, in the first series of issue one. I didn't know it was a meme, actually. I found out after the fact. I didn't even know about it really. Even then, I looked at a picture and I was like, oh, okay, now I get it. And like he said, "I'm just eating a sandwich, man." It was like everybody reads into it. John Lennon, there was a guy who came to his house, and he was like, "What did this mean in this song?" He's like, "Man, it's just a song. I put a bunch of lyrics together." That's kind what I think was going on there. The poor guy is just eating a sandwich, and it turned into a whole thing, but it's cool.

All 12 issues of BRZRKR are now available from BOOM! Studios.

NEW YORK (AP) — Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who played a pair of extraordinary slackers in three “Bill & Ted” films, are reuniting on Broadway for a revival of the brainy, existential classic “Waiting for Godot.”

The play is planned for the fall of 2025 under the direction of Jamie Lloyd, a four-time Tony nominee set to direct a revival later this year of “Sunset Boulevard.”

Samuel Beckett’s pioneering play centers on two tramps, Estragon and Vladimir, who are awaiting the arrival of the mysterious title character, if he ever shows up. It is filled with vaudevillian high jinks that mask increasingly agitated desperation.

Reeves will play Estragon and Winter will play Vladimir.

The play was first performed on Broadway in 1956 and has been revived three times since, most recently in 2013 with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

After “Bill & Ted,” Reeves would go on to star in the “Matrix” and “John Wick” franchises. He will be making his Broadway debut with “Godot.” Winter has appeared on Broadway twice before — in the 1970s in musical revivals of “The King and I” and “Peter Pan.”

In other theater news, Adam Driver will star in a new production of Kenneth Lonergan’s “Hold on to Me Darling” this fall off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
