The Plot (from Goodreads ):

There is a stranger outside Caroline’s house.

Her spectacular new beach house, built for hosting expensive parties and vacationing with the family she thought she’d have. But her husband is lying to her and everything in her life is upside down, so when the stranger, Aiden, shows up as a bartender at the same party where Caroline and her husband have a very public fight, it doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary.

As her marriage collapses around her and the lavish lifestyle she’s built for herself starts to crumble, Caroline turns to Aiden for comfort…and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aiden’s obsession with Caroline, her family, and her house grows more and more disturbing. And when Caroline’s husband goes missing, her life descends into a nightmare that leaves her accused of her own husband’s murder.

The Twist:

Jason’s death was a set up. He and Caroline had stolen millions from the Russian mob. They used Aiden as a patsy and framed him for Jason’s death. Jason wasn’t dead; he and Caroline were hiding out and waiting to be able to flee the country.

The Ending:

The review: .

A Stranger on the Beach is a beautiful roller coaster of betrayal, obsession, and lies.

The story is told from both Caroline and Aiden’s perspectives. Each scene is told from first one perspective and then the other, with huge discrepancies between each view. Where does the truth lie? Is one person deluded, or is the other person lying? Either way, both narrators are completely unreliable.

I was hooked from the beginning of this fast-paced thriller. Caroline’s actions make the reader shake their head, but I couldn’t wait to see where her decisions would lead her.

To the common onlooker, Caroline Stark has it all: she is rich and beautiful, and she and her husband have just conjured the perfect beach house practically out of thin air (and one thick wallet). With their daughter safely installed in her college dorm and their housewarming party rapidly approaching, Caroline is feeling a bit unmoored, but it’s nothing she can’t handle. Sure, Jason has been spending a lot of time at work, and she did catch a stranger staring up at her house from the (public) beach, but once she has her party, everything will settle back to normal. Right?

So begins Michele Campbell’s A STRANGER ON THE BEACH, a novel that truly plays with the reader’s ideas of truth and fiction, and packs in more suspenseful twists and turns than you can even imagine.

Caroline may look like your typical rich trophy wife, but she comes from hardscrabble beginnings, so it is no problem for her to approach the stranger watching her house --- or, as she fears, casing it. The closer she gets to the stranger, however, the easier it is for her to see how strikingly handsome he is. Aidan Callahan, as he introduces himself, is charming and gorgeous, and Caroline decides to ignore the strangeness of his appearance on the beach outside of her home. After all, she has a huge party to plan. It’s only a coincidence that Aidan ends up bartending her party later. Right?

"This book is a mind bender with clues so carefully hidden that you nearly forget there is a single author behind it all.... Campbell is a new author for me, but I can tell she is one I will add to my 'auto-buy' list immediately."

But when Jason says he is not coming to their party, and then shows up with a mysterious Russian woman, Caroline decides that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. By chance, she ends up at the same bar where Aidan is a bartender, and the two share a passionate, carefree night together. Suffice it to say that Aidan is a stranger no more. Not only does Caroline give in to the temptation of Aidan’s youth, she also shares some personal stories and fears about her marriage, her daughter and more. Or does she? Campbell’s book diverges at this point as readers hear from both Caroline and Aidan, who have some very different ideas about their night together and the days following. Where one describes an awkward moment, the other offers a story of romance, and where one expresses fear, the other feels nothing but comfort. But who is who?

As the perfect male lead, Aidan is not only attractive, he is also damaged. He has lived through some trials, has had his heart broken, and is insecure about his standing on the island. But he is also obsessive and proud, and as his version of events starts to sound less and less like Caroline’s, readers will be forced to consider the possibility that he is not at all what he seems. But just when Aidan does something so over the line that you start to fear for Caroline’s life, Caroline says something completely out of left field that makes you wonder who is the hero and who is the villain. Readers will be flipping pages at a rapid pace to determine who is really telling the truth --- and what the other person is hiding.

Campbell plays with her readers’ perceptions brilliantly and gleefully; you are never quite sure who to trust, and you have reasons to want both characters to be honest. Is Aidan viewing Caroline through rose-colored glasses? Is she manipulating him to get revenge on her husband? You’ll have to dig into the pages of this compulsively readable book to find out --- and believe me when I say that the truth will rock you to your core.

As a fan of thrillers, I can easily say that psychological suspense is having a real moment right now, and that means that there are tons of new authors and stories to choose from when it comes to your next suspense read. With so many versions of the same general premise out there, Campbell has done something truly unique by giving you two sides of one story that are so convoluted and layered that it is impossible to parse out the truth. This is peak psychological suspense, and her characters are just flawed enough on their own to let you believe that they are each the star of this wonderful book. I vacillated between fearing for crafty Caroline and wanting to protect addled Aidan so frequently that I nearly gave myself whiplash.

A STRANGER ON THE BEACH is difficult to review without giving away too much. But it is also tricky to review because Campbell makes it all look so easy! This book is a mind bender with clues so carefully hidden that you nearly forget there is a single author behind it all. Every twist is shocking, but they will make you think, I should have known! Campbell is a new author for me, but I can tell she is one I will add to my “auto-buy” list immediately. Those who love “Big Little Lies,” books by Mary Kubica, and a pitch-perfect unreliable narrator (or two!) will love A STRANGER ON THE BEACH.

A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

Caroline Stark’s beach house was supposed to be her crowning achievement: a lavish, expensive space to showcase what she thought was her perfect family. But after a very public fight with her husband, she realizes things may not be as perfect as they seem: her husband is lying to her, the money is disappearing, and there’s a stranger on the beach outside her house. As Caroline’s marriage and her carefully constructed lifestyle begin to collapse around her, she turns to Aidan, the stranger, for comfort…and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aidan’s infatuation with Caroline, her family, and her house becomes more and more destructive. But who is manipulating whom in this deadly game of obsession and control? Who will take the blame when someone ends up dead…and what is Caroline hiding?

A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

Caroline Stark is living the dream life. Well, until her husband shows up late to their housewarming party… and with another woman. As Caroline’s marriage falls apart, so does her fancy life. When Caroline meets a stranger on the beach, Aiden, they have a brief fling. It’s clear from the start that Aiden’s feelings are stronger for Caroline than hers for him.

A Stranger on the Beach is told with the alternating points of view of Caroline and Aiden. Caroline’s POV is first person, while Aiden’s is third person. It’s clear their stories don’t match, but which one is lying is not clear. An entertaining unreliable narrator psychological thriller.

A Stranger on the Beach is the second book I’ve read by Michele Campbell, and I enjoyed this one slightly more than She Was the Quiet One . For avid readers of domestic suspense, A Stranger on the Beach isn’t too hard to figure out. Still, it was a fun, fast-paced read. Suspenseful and exciting.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. It does not impact my review.

A Stranger on the Beach will be available July 23, 2019.

This review will be short and sweet because there isn’t too much I feel I can say about this one without giving too much away.  A Stranger on the Beach follows the story of wealthy housewife Caroline trying to put her life back together after a one night stand with local bartender Aidan Callahan. Caroline wanted some revenge on her cheating husband, but Aidan falls hard for her, becoming obsessive about taking care of her.

The story is told mostly through Caroline’s first person POV for the first half of the novel, with Aidan’s POV interspersed throughout. We quickly come to see that the story Caroline is telling and the story Aidan is telling do not match up. One of them is obviously lying. I did like this approach, but it didn’t take me long to decide which account I believed and I ended up being right. From that point on, there weren’t really any reveals I found surprising and I found all the chapters from the perspective of the person I didn’t believe to drag on for a bit too long. In the second half of the novel, the perspective of one of the detectives working the case was added and I felt like the pace really picked up from there.

Overall, I enjoyed  A Stranger on the Beach . I thought the first half of the novel dragged on just a little too long, but the second half helped make up for it. Even though I figured out things pretty quickly, I still thought the writing was clever and enjoyable. I think that readers who don’t read a lot of this genre could end up being really surprised and entertained by the twists and turns. Because of this, I’m upping my rating up a bit than what I was originally planning to.

Overall Rating (out of 5): 4 Stars

Woah. How creepy does this story sound? I love reading stuff like this, just never make the time. I might have to remedy that. Xo

I hope you get the chance to read this one! It was entertaining.

Great review! I just finished reading this and I had the same thoughts!

Thanks! Great minds think a like 🙂

I like how one of the POV is unreliable. I bet it was fun trying to figure out which was which. Great review!

Thank you! The differing POVs were fun, though once I decided who I believed, I didn’t enjoy the other person’s POVs quite as much. Still, it was entertaining!

I’ve had that happen to me before. It’s like you want those chapters to hurry up so you can get to who you want to read about.

I’ll be looking for this one 🙂

I hope you enjoy it!

Bookish in Midlife A Stranger on the beach book review

"From the bestselling author of It's Always the Husband comes a novel about a love triangle that begins on a fateful night... There is a stranger outside Caroline's house. Her spectacular new beach house, built for hosting expensive parties and vacationing with the family she thought she'd have. But her husband is lying to her and everything in her life is upside down, so when the stranger, Aidan, shows up as a bartender at the same party where Caroline and her husband have a very public fight, it doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. As her marriage collapses around her and the lavish lifestyle she's built for herself starts to crumble, Caroline turns to Aidan for comfort...and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aidan's obsession with Caroline, her family, and her house grows more and more disturbing. And when Caroline's husband goes missing, her life descends into a nightmare that leaves her accused of her own husband's murder. A Stranger on the Beach is Strangers on a Train meets Fatal Attraction in Michele Campbell's edge-of your-seat story of passion and intrigue."--

Some books take ahold of you in the first chapter and won’t let you go until the very end. A Stranger on the Beach did that and then some. Michele Campbell introduces us to Caroline Stark, a 42-year-old wife, and mother who is going through the usual midlife journey. She is experiencing the empty nest syndrome in the worst way.  Her Daughter is a college freshman,  and her husband is married to the job.   Having given up her successful career as an interior designer, she puts everything into making their new home perfect. Caroline and Jason recently purchased land and built a multimillion-dollar home on a scenic bluff in the Hamptons.  With the stranger lurking on her property gone and the house complete, Caroline throws the housewarming party of the year. Not only does her doting husband Jason show up late, but he also shows up with another woman in tow. A verbal altercation ensues in front of her guests leaving Caroline standing in the driveway dumbfounded her husband and “The Russian Woman” peeling away into the night.

Not knowing the status of her marriage and wanting to forget her troubles, Caroline does what every middle-aged woman would do right? Yes, you guessed it, she goes to the local dive bar looking hot and ready for some action. Lucky for her the hunky bartender Aiden Callahan happens to be on duty and ever prepared to help her feel much much better. After a night (and morning) of hot, lusty, passion Caroline wants Aiden gone. It didn’t help matters that after round five, Aiden told her, “I love you.” Wrong move, kid. Aiden reluctantly leaves and falls head over heels on his way out the door.

Let the games begin!

Told by two POV’s you will have to determine which version is the “true account” of the goings-on. Is Aiden a psycho who will do anything to get back into Caroline’s bed? Is Caroline a vindictive woman who wants revenge or a frightened woman that will do whatever it takes to save her family? Is Jason lying about the Russian woman, or is he having a tawdry affair? You will find yourself rooting for each character and will be blown away when it ends. Were you correct??

A Stranger on the Beach has it all; lies, deceit, forgiveness, sex, and murder. I can’t say much more without spoiling the plot. I can say this is by far one of the best books I have read this year. I enjoyed it so much; I also listened to the audio version. KUDOS for having my all-time favorite narrator January LaVoy bring this story to life!!!

a stranger on the beach book review

Caroline Stark’s dreams were all coming true.  The construction of her beautiful beach house in the Hamptons was finally complete and she was starting up her own interior design business.  However, her husband, Jason, has been distant of late and seems to resent the beach house complaining about the work he has to do to pay for it!

It was finally the night of Caroline’s big party. A combined housewarming and birthday party for Jason.  Except she didn’t even know if Jason was going to show up!  She had told him how important it was to her and he said he’d try, but as the time ticked away, she felt less and less confident he’d come.  However, when he did show, she wished he hadn’t!  Not only did he show up, but so did his mistress!  Now all the socialites were talking about them and their trouble in paradise!  Her marriage is over and she’s left to drown her sorrows in the nearest bottle.

Caroline finds herself at a local bar flirting with a cute bartender, Aiden.  She ends up taking him home with her for a steamy one night stand.  But Caroline quickly discovers that Aiden doesn’t want one night, he wants forever.  Now she fears for her safety as Aiden’s obsession grows.  She’s trying to reconcile with Jason, and if he finds out about her infidelity it will ruin everything!  But are keeping her secrets worth the lives of her and her loved ones?

Its summertime and I was in the mood for a beach-themed read.  The synopsis of this one looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a try.

This was a decent read, and it did have a good flow to it, except you did get some scenes repeated showing both Aiden and Caroline’s points of view.  Their versions of events were often vastly different.  It reminded me of that saying about there being three sides to every story: mine, yours, and the truth.  I quickly figured that either Aiden or Caroline was lying in their telling of events.  I had a pretty good guess of who that was and ended up being right.

I actually liked Aiden.  He seemed like a sweet guy, but came off as way too naïve for my liking.  This story seemed like one that’s been told hundreds of times and it was just too predictable for me.  I was able to figure out the big twist at the end long before it happened, which did suck some of the enjoyment out of it for me.

This wasn’t a bad story, but nothing about it really surprised me.  I had expected more from it, but it came off as a stale rendition of the love triangle that wrecks a marriage with a murder mystery that wasn’t so mysterious thrown in.

Book review: A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

Caroline was a wealthy woman who was happily married and putting the finishing touches on their new and expensive beach house. Caroline notices a stranger outside her house one night and on the very first page, we learn that she wishes she never saw this man because it made her whole life change.

Aiden, the stranger, ends up as the bartender at Caroline’s party at the new beach house to celebrate her new home. At this same party, Caroline and her husband get into a fight in front of the entire party and nothing is the same after this night. Caroline realizes her husband is lying and caught him in his lies.

Caroline’s life begins to fall apart and she spends a regretful night with Aiden.

Aiden becomes obsessed with Caroline………..or does he??

The narrators shift from Aiden to Caroline and the reader learns that perspective is the key.

My Thoughts:

If you’ve ever seen the HBO Series  The Affair , you will know what to expect in this book. Aiden and Caroline have differing perspectives regarding the events following the party where the two of them meet. Who is telling the truth? Is Aiden really as obsessed with Caroline as she perceives? What is going on with Caroline’s husband?

This book is an obsessive read that I read on a recent beach trip. I really couldn’t put it down and couldn’t figure out what was the truth was! Michele Campbell is definitely one of my “go-to” authors for a great thriller!

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of The Stranger on the Beach that I received.

Book Review: A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

a stranger on the beach book review

Her spectacular new beach house, built for hosting expensive parties and vacationing with the family she thought she’d have. But her husband is lying to her and everything in her life is upside down, so when the stranger, Aidan, shows up as a bartender at the same party where Caroline and her husband have a very public fight, it doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary.

As her marriage collapses around her and the lavish lifestyle she’s built for herself starts to crumble, Caroline turns to Aidan for comfort…and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aidan’s obsession with Caroline, her family, and her house grows more and more disturbing. And when Caroline’s husband goes missing, her life descends into a nightmare that leaves her accused of her own husband’s murder.

Caroline sees a stranger outside her new beach house. Her house that reflects her outwardly perfect life.

Her husband however is lying to her and everything in her life is turning upside down.

So, when Aiden shows up, a bartender at the party where she has a very public row with her husband, she turns to him for comfort… and revenge.

Although their brief fling means nothing to Caroline, Aiden becomes obsessed.

Then Caroline’s husband goes missing and her life descends into chaos where she is suspected of her own husband’s murder.

I’d not read any of Michele’s novels so this was my introduction. It did not disappoint.

This novel pretty much had me on the edge of my seat all the way through.

It’s a rollercoaster of suspense, tension and an ending that blindsided me.

The style of writing was interesting. It jumps around but I was soon completely into the story.

It’s told from both Caroline and Aiden’s point of view as they pursue their relationship and events develop.

Caroline is a complicated character and I couldn’t make my mind up about her at all. Aiden was very cleverly written. There were sections where I suspected him but I also had a large amount of empathy for him also.

As a reader, you are plunged into the action and in my opinion, it didn’t really end until the last page. It’s a look into what we, as people are capable of doing to each other.

Overall, A Stranger on the Beach was a gripping, compelling thriller that kept me guessing.

I loved it.

a stranger on the beach book review

Q&A: Michele Campbell, Author of ‘A Stranger On The Beach’

a stranger on the beach book review

Michele Campbell, best-selling author of It’s Always The Husband and She Was The Quiet One , has an exciting new thriller that’s just days away from release! A Stranger On The Beach is an edgy and unforgettable tale of obsession and revenge. It will be available for sale on July 23rd, but it already seems to be on everyone’s must-read list!

Michele generously gave us some of her time and answered our questions about her background and writing inspirations, and she let us in on what character type tends to reappear in her books, as well as what she has coming next!

Hi Michele! Could you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m originally from Connecticut and have mostly lived in New York and New England, which is why my books are set in the northeast.  But I love to travel, and I’ve been all over the world, so you’ll also find great vacation destinations in my books.  (Like the trip to Jamaica in It’s Always the Husband ). I was a federal prosecutor in Brooklyn before becoming an author.  So, although my books explore the dark side of personal relationships from a character-driven perspective, they also include crimes and police investigations. I’m happily married, and my husband has never tried to kill me (as far as I know). I’m a mom of two boys.

Growing up, what were some of your favorite books?

The book I read over and over again as a kid was The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. It’s an atmospheric YA historical romance set in Connecticut in the late 17 th Century, about an independent young woman trying to survive in Puritan society who gets accused of witchcraft. It was a Newbery medalist in its day and is still widely read. I picked it up at the school book fair, fell in love and began a long tradition of rereading favorite books endlessly.

Was “writer” on your list of “Things I Want to Be When I Grow Up” or did that happen later?

I always loved to read and to write. I wrote fiction as a kid. (Haha — none of it survives, and if it did, I’d be mortified.) In high school, I worked on the school newspaper and wanted to be a journalist. In college, I fell in love with the idea of justice and decided to go to law school.  Lawyers write all the time, so that career was great training for becoming a crime novelist.

You graduated from Harvard, you went to Stanford Law School, and ultimately worked as a federal prosecutor – what was the process of moving from that career into being a crime novelist?

I started writing fiction seriously when I was home with small children. (I know I’m not the only female author with that origin story.) I had been a trial lawyer, but had difficulty making that very intense career fit with motherhood. I think that speaks to how unfriendly the modern workplace is for moms of young kids. Being a writer gives one greater flexibility. I left my prosecutor job with a head full of great crime stories, so it was a natural evolution to start writing crime fiction.

On a purely-for-pleasure reading day, what are some books and authors that you reach for?

As you can imagine, I read a lot of thrillers. Favorite thriller authors include: Ruth Ware, Shari LaPena, Tess Gerritsen, Rea Frey, Mary Kubica, Kaira Rouda, Jessica Strawser and so many more that I can’t list them all. I also love fantasy and historical romance. My favorite all-time series are Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I reread those and watch the t.v. adaptations. Deborah Harkness’s A Discovery of Witches series is a recent discovery and a new favorite. For classics, I return always to Edith Wharton and F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Their thematic preoccupation with wealth, class and status has influenced me greatly, and shows up in every one of my books.

If you had the opportunity to meet and talk with an author from the past, who would you choose and why?

I’m tempted to say Patricia Highsmith, because she writes the most psychologically acute thrillers of all time, and I find her utterly fascinating. But she was such a misanthrope that I suspect holding a conversation with her would be a challenge. Instead, I’d choose among the great literary wits, because they’d be fun to talk to—Dorothy Parker, Oscar Wilde, Truman Capote or the like.

How has your writing process changed since your first book?

I’m now on a deadline!

Where did your inspiration for A Stranger on the Beach come from?

A Stranger on the Beach is a sleek, propulsive story of obsessive love, told in alternating he said/she said chapters, in which one or both of the narrators is unreliable. Caroline is a wealthy housewife who first sees Aidan, the local bartender, standing on the beach outside her Hamptons mansion. When she discovers that her husband has been cheating, she has a brief revenge fling with Aidan that means nothing to her and everything to him. In her point of view, Aidan is a dangerous stalker. In his, they’re in love, and he’s protecting her from her dangerous husband. When the husband goes missing, who’s telling the truth? The book is very cinematic and takes inspiration from films like Body Heat and Fatal Attraction as well as psychological thrillers like Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley .

Without spoilers (obviously) do you have a favorite part, character, or aspect of A Stranger on the Beach ?

Aidan is my favorite character in A Stranger on the Beach . He’s wounded and damaged. He tries to do the right thing, but he can’t help acting in ways that are bad for him and for others. Despite the trouble he causes, I empathize with him profoundly. All of my books have a character like that. In She Was the Quiet One , it’s Bel, the wild, rebellious twin who hazes her sister. In It’s Always the Husband , it’s Kate, the bad girl with the world at her feet. Some readers hate Kate, but I don’t. I love all of my characters, because I understand them.

I’m sure it’s blasphemous to even ask, but do you have a favorite of your books?  Or one that is just a little closer to your heart, maybe?

A mother loves her children equally, but at the moment I’m a little crazy for A Stranger on the Beach. It’s a tale of infatuation and obsession so powerful that it nearly drives the characters mad. It also has a great he said/she said structure that keeps readers guessing from beginning to end. But I also love my first two books; they’re my babies, too!   It’s Always the Husband follows three women who meet as college roommates and form a toxic friendship that turns to tragedy later in life when one of them is murdered. And She Was the Quiet One is a gothic murder mystery about twin sisters set at a remote boarding school.

I loved A Stranger on the Beach so much that I have jumped right in to your back list, but I’m dying to know what’s next!?

My fourth book, The Wife Who Knew Too Much , is coming summer 2020. Inspired partly by that great classic of psychological suspense, Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca , it’s the story of a waitress from small-town New Hampshire whose first love comes back to her years later. It would be a dream come true, except he’s married — to a difficult, controlling, uber-wealthy woman who then dies in an apparent suicide.  Our heroine goes to live with her love in his mansion by the sea. As she’s drawn deeper into the dark glamour of a life she’s ill-prepared for, it becomes clear to her that what a wife knows can kill her.

A STRANGER ON THE BEACH

Author : Michele Campbell Year : 2019 Edition : 2021 Paperback Pages : 440 Genre : Psychological Thriller Additional info : As of July 2019, the film adaptation is still in development status

Bestselling author of It’s Always the Husband

Caroline Stark’s beach house was supposed to be her crowning achievement: a lavish, expensive space to showcase what she thought was her perfect family. But after a very public fight with her husband, she realizes things may not be as perfect as they seem: her husband is lying to her, money is disappearing, and there’s a stranger on the beach outside her house.

As Caroline’s marriage and her carefully constructed lifestyle begin to collapse around her, she turns to Aidan, the stranger, for comfort… and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aidan’s infatuation with Caroline, her family, and her house becomes more and more destructive. But who is manipulating whom in this deadly game of obsession and control? Who will take the blame when someone ends up dead… and what is Caroline hiding?

Why I chose to read this book I was scrolling through Reddit as I usually do late at night when my daughter had finally fallen asleep on me. I had noticed  A Stranger on the Beach mentioned quite a few times in a non-book-related subreddit . It looked like a light summer read and with that many people recommending it, I thought I would give it a try.

Thoughts & Opinions This is not the type of book I usually read however it did have a lot of the same elements I look for in a good read; suspense, thrills, and scandals. What’s lacking a bit is an enriched vocabulary however for this type of book it doesn’t matter. When you’re reading a scandalous, juicy story, what matters is how enthralling and captivating it is. The two main characters tell the story from each of their viewpoints. You get the sense early on that someone isn’t telling the truth because their accounts are wildly different.

“Never trust a stranger. Never let a man you don’t know into your house, your car, your pants.” - Michele Campbell, A Stranger on the Beach

I won’t say much more about the story (you can get an idea of it anyways from the summary above) because I don’t want to reveal any spoilers but what I can tell you is that it’s a page-turner and it will keep you guessing until the end. A Stanger on the Beach will supposedly be made into a movie. If it does, I will definitely watch it because I’m interested in seeing how they will adapt the two POVs; if not done smartly, it could confuse the viewers. Oh and if you enjoy “spicy” scenes, this is for you!

About the author

Michele campbell.

Michele Campbell is a graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School and a former federal prosecutor in New York City who specialized in international narcotics and gang cases.

A while back, she said goodbye to her big-city legal career and moved with her husband and two children to an idyllic New England college town a lot like Belle River in IT'S ALWAYS THE HUSBAND. Since then, she has spent her time teaching criminal and constitutional law and writing novels.

She has had many close female friends, a few frenemies, and only one husband, who - to the best of her knowledge - has never tried to kill her.

  1. Michele Campbell

The Review: A Stranger on the Beach is a beautiful roller coaster of betrayal, obsession, and lies. The story is told from both Caroline and Aiden's perspectives. 4. A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell [Book Review]

A Stranger on the Beach is the second book I've read by Michele Campbell, and I enjoyed this one slightly more than She Was the Quiet One. For avid readers of domestic suspense, A Stranger on the Beach isn't too hard to figure out. Still, it was a fun, fast-paced read. Suspenseful and exciting.

I really enjoyed A stranger on the beach. I think it is a great domestic thriller, if you are looking for a complex but interesting plot, with lots of action and some morally grey characters. The eBook and audio book are already out. Paperback comes out on the 9th Jan 2020 in the UK. Thank you for reading, as always X.

  7. Book Review A Stranger on the Beach Michele Campbell

Some books take ahold of you in the first chapter and won't let you go until the very end. A Stranger on the Beach did that and then some. Michele Campbell introduces us to Caroline Stark, a 42-year-old wife, and mother who is going through the usual midlife journey. She is experiencing the empty nest syndrome in the worst way.

A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell My rating: 5 of 5 stars I loved this book! Through the first part of it, the author did an outstanding job of planting seeds that made me doubt who was telling the truth and who was lying. At any given moment, I could swing my "allegiance to the truth" between Aidan and Caroline. By Chapter 26, I was convinced that Aidan was a creepy stalker.
