Applied Probability and Statistics is designed to help students develop competence in the fundamental concepts of basic statistics including: introductory algebra and graphing; descriptive statistics; regression and correlation; and probability. Statistical data and probability are often used in everyday life, science, business, information technology, and educational settings to make informed decisions about the validity of studies and the effect of data on decisions. This course discusses what constitutes sound research design and how to appropriately model phenomena using statistical data. Transfer applicants who meet the ASU transfer student admission requirements and also meet one of the following criteria may be directly admitted to a W. P. Carey School of Business Bachelor of Science degree program:

Admissions portfolio

If you don't meet the requirements for admission to a W. P. Carey degree program, you may submit an admissions portfolio for review. Please note that this is a competitive process and admission is not guaranteed. Preference will be given to students with at least a 3.00 cumulative ASU GPA and/or transfer GPA. Students are only allowed a maximum of two (2) application attempts via Admissions Portfolio/Concurrent Degree Request. All Admissions Portfolio/Concurrent Degree Request decisions are final.

We look at the cost per credit multiplied by the number of credits you need to earn for a bachelor's degree. Most bachelor's degrees require 120 credits. SNHU allows you to transfer in up to 90 credits, requiring a minimum of 30 credits to be taken at SNHU. This is only a tuition estimator, and doesn't account for other fees that may be associated with your program of choice.

Just ask Adetokunbo Osinowo '20 . Before she discovered SNHU, going back to school seemed impossible.

"Working full time, I didn't think I'd be able to go back to school and give it my 100%," Osinowo said. "I think another reason was the fear of failure and self-doubt. What if I do it and I fail? What if I don't finish? What if I'm not good at it? Those excuses were holding me back from taking that plunge."

Finally, she went for it – and soon realized just how much she was capable of.

"I could finally see that earning my degree was something I could achieve – something that I could give my 100%."

Yes, it is. While human resources jobs were once considered administrative in nature, a changing workforce and developments in technology have made the HR roles of today much more complex.

Take, for example, the ways employee benefits have evolved over the years, from learning and development initiatives to stock options and other perks. The recruitment process has become more involved, too. A once-simple job description now lives on multiple digital job boards and social media channels, where user-generated reviews can make or break a company's image among current employees and job seekers alike.

Add to the mix a growing emphasis on work-life balance, and you have an entire workforce that expects more than a paycheck from their employers.

According to SHRM, HR professionals play "a vital role in perpetuating a strong culture, starting with recruiting and selecting applicants who will share the organization's beliefs and thrive in that culture." 3

The SNHU BS in Human Resource Management is aligned with 2 major HR credentialing organizations: HRCI (Human Resource Certification Institute) and SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).

HRCI Content Partner

The BS in HR Management covers the 5 main content areas covered on the HRCI Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) certification exam. Students self-study for the exam while progressing through HRM coursework. The aPHR is beneficial to business professionals both in and out of HR fields due to its integrated focus on people management.

Enrollment in the SNHU BS HRM program also includes discounted pricing on the aPHR examination as well as access to HRCI test prep materials for one year after graduation.

SHRM Alignment

SNHU's BS in Human Resource Management program is also aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management's Body of Applied Skills & Knowledge (SHRM BASK) competencies. Developed through a series of large-scale research studies, the SHRM BASK incorporates global HR viewpoints to collectively establish a grouping of critical HR competencies and content areas.

The SHRM BASK is also used to define the content areas for SHRM's two main certification exams, the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). While our online college degree  programs aim to make use of free resources whenever possible – including ebooks, websites and training videos – some courses will require textbooks.

SNHU also offers a generous transfer policy, accepting up to 90 transfer credits  toward bachelor’s degree programs that can save you time and money.

At SNHU, many earn their bachelor's in about 4 years. But if you're looking to save time, there are a few ways to finish faster.

  • Transfer credits. At SNHU, we accept up to 90 credits for bachelor's programs. If you're eligible for the full 90, you could finish the remainder of your coursework in about 1 year.
  • Take prior learning assessments. Through prior learning assessments, such as Pathways to Math Success, you may be able to get credit for what you already know.

  • The entrepreneurship specialization is intended to equip MSM graduates for successful careers in business innovation roles, either in a corporation or a family business, or via purchasing and transforming an existing business. As a part of the Strategy specialization, you’ll have the opportunity to take additional courses in Franchising, Entrepreneurship through Acquisition, Family Business, and Future of Real Estate.
  • Want to further your knowledge in Finance? While all MSM students take a core course in Finance, if you choose to specialize in Finance, you’ll take a deeper dive into Finance with courses in Corporate Finance and Investment Analysis. Under certain circumstances, practicum may be a suitable or better experiential learning opportunity that internship.

ProjMgt 485: Project Mgt  Experiential Learning (Effective Fall 2024)

Entering the program with prior experience? We support you getting credit for that experience so you get to the classes you need.

Sign up for the 1-credit  IPS 301 class  to assemble a portfolio to receive credit for prior for one or some of the following:   

  • ProjMgt 300 (Fundamentals)

Both the certificate and Bachelor’s of Project Management highlight the importance of internship to help transition to a career.

The certificate require three credits of internship and the major requires 12 credits. This reflects the difference anticipated in student interests.

How to apply

What are the mba admission requirements.

Admission requirements

Applicants to the MBA in Project Management must provide the following information for admission:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or from an internationally recognized institution
  • Your official transcripts, with a minimum grade point average of 2.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • A valid, government-issued form of photo identification
  • Admission application – no application fee required

GRE and GMAT are not required for admission.

FlexPath admission requirements

Applicants for our  FlexPath self-paced learning  option must also meet the following criteria:

  • The recommended minimum GPA is 3.0, although those with lower GPAs may be considered if providing additional documentation for review.

Transition to FlexPath: Applicants whose GPA is below the FlexPath admission threshold may be considered once they successfully complete at least two GuidedPath courses (or eight credits, whichever is greater). Those students will also need to meet the requirement of 45 transfer credits to be approved for the transition into FlexPath.

International student requirements

If you completed your most recent academic coursework, degree, or credential at an institution outside the United States, regardless of your citizenship or where you currently live, you are considered an international applicant.

In addition to the above admission requirements, you will need to submit these materials:

  • Minimum score on acceptable test for proof of English proficiency

Leading Educational Change and Improvement ( alternative online module available for part-time students if required )

This module will develop an understanding of educational change and improvement from research and practical perspectives, and look at how that can impact teaching and learning outcomes. You will be comparing, evaluating and critiquing international reform efforts and developing knowledge about the dynamics of improvement as a strategy for change.

Research Methods in Education ( alternative online module available for part-time students if required )

This module encourages students in understanding, designing and implementing research in the field of education. It will introduce you to a range of established research strategies and techniques, including data collection and analysis. These skills will enable you to design and carry out a dissertation research project, as well as to disseminate its findings. As part of this module, you will present your research design and have the opportunity to receive feedback ahead of completing your dissertation.

Dissertation

The dissertation is an opportunity to explore, in depth, an area of academic and/or professional interest related to your degree. Building on the knowledge and skills developed during the Research Methods module, and your other modules, you will conduct an independent research project, developing a deeper understanding of your chosen topic.

From your research project, you will produce a dissertation, with guidance from a supervisor who will be allocated to you. Through the dissertation you will demonstrate the ability to analyse and synthesise relevant literature, produce coherent arguments supported by relevant evidence and logical discussion, and acknowledge sources of ideas and information.

For full-time students, all of our modules are delivered in person at our well-equipped university campus. Please note that if you wish to study on a part-time basis you should be aware that most modules are taught during the normal working day and there is no out-of-hours provision. If this is a consideration for you please contact us prior to applying so that we can advise you further. Part-time students are able to complete some of their modules as asynchronous distance-learning modules.  

Most modules include weekly teaching sessions, giving you the opportunity to join with your colleagues to discuss and debate the topics being explored. These sessions are delivered in a range of formats that suit the module (these may include lectures, seminars, group work and practical workshops, for example). In addition, you will be given various pre- and post-session tasks and readings to support your learning.  

Typical contact hours

You will attend one or two 3-hour lectures and/or seminars each week during the Autumn and Spring Terms of modules plus research methods training lectures and seminars throughout all three terms.

Assessment types vary depending on modules selected but may be a mixture of assignments and oral presentations. You will also complete a dissertation based on an individual research project, with support from a research supervisor .

You may wish to undertake some research with children or young people that may require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or a Certificate of Good Conduct for students from outside of the UK. A Certificate of Good Conduct can vary in price.

Sun City Boards Assignments and Discussions

Half of the written assignments and discussions are based on a case study, whose focus is a fictional high-end surfboard company, Sun City Boards, which is also highlighted in the Why It Matters and Putting it Together in Module 3: Planning and Mission. Many of these assignments take the form of asking students to give Tom, the company’s inexperienced owner, advice about how he can run his business more effectively. The Sun City Boards assignments create a common framework for applying knowledge and skills developed through the course, encouraging students to demonstrate mastery of the content through real-world tasks and work products.

The other half of the written assignments and discussions use a variety of approaches, depending on the subject and learning outcome being assessed; many ask students to go beyond course content to form connections between research topics and what they’ve learned in class.

The MoSCoW method is a technique that helps organizations prioritize what should be done first in a project. It is done in four steps that follow the acronym MoSCoW, which stands for must have, should have, could have and will not have. It’s used by anyone who needs to prioritize their work and is especially useful in project management.

MoSCoW Prioritization Categories

Managing a project is often about managing what you will – and won’t! – get done in the given project timeline . When there are no priorities set, projects can quickly become free-for-alls, with the loudest voices in the room getting their work prioritized over others, often not for the benefit of the project or the organization.

But there’s a different approach. It’s called the MoSCoW method for defining and managing requirements and tasks in a project . Here is a list to clarify what those requirements are:

Must-Have Requirements (M)

Another way to refer to this is as the minimum usable subset (MUS) or what the project must deliver. In other words, the project must deliver these on the target date for the project to remain on track. No delay is acceptable. It is either going to take the project off track, it’s unsafe or even illegal not to have this done by the time given in the project’s business case .

A way to understand if you’re dealing with a MUS is by asking yourself, “What happens if this isn’t met?” If the answer is, “The project fails ,” then you have a MUS. Any workaround that can be devised to continue with the project and not jeopardize its success, means this isn’t a MUS.

Should-Have Requirements (S)

This type of requirement is almost as important as a MUS, but it’s not vital to the success of the project. In other words, the project doesn’t depend on this requirement. You might not want to leave it out, as it could have a great impact on the project, but in the end, it can be done without causing any irreparable harm. Again, leaving out this requirement means a lot of work⁠ (finding a solution, changing stakeholders’ expectations, maybe experiencing some inefficiency⁠), but the project can go on.

Could-Have Requirements (C)

The difference between a should-have requirement and a could-have requirement is simply by figuring out the degree of pain that would be caused by not meeting it. That is, how will it impact the business value of the project, how many people would be affected, etc. Therefore, a could-have requirement is something you’d like but is less important than a should-have requirement. There will be an impact if it’s left out of the project, but less than the impact of a should-have requirement.

What We Will Not Have This Time (W)

Here is where you can collect those requirements that are not feasible for a specific release. Maybe next time, but the project remains strong without them. This is a great way to avoid project scope creep . Once initiatives are placed in the not-have-time category, teams know that they’re not a priority for this go-around and can place them on the back burner and out of their mind. What Is the MoSCoW Method Used For?

The MoSCow method can be of use to anyone who has work and needs to prioritize that work to know what’s essential and what can be ignored. It’s mostly used in product development, software development and project management. In project management that helps determine which tasks, requirements, products and user stories (in agile projects) the team needs to prioritize.

How to Implement the MoSCoW Method in 3 Steps

The MoSCoW method is a valuable tool, but only if you know how to use it. Here are three steps that will help you use the MoSCoW method when prioritizing your project.

1. Gather Project Requirements

Start by identifying all project requirements . Just make a giant list and be as thorough as possible. You don’t want to leave out anything that might prove essential to the project.

Now go through that list and attach a letter to each, according to the MoSCoW method of M for must-have, S for should have, C could have and W for what you won’t have. This allows you to prioritize the work and know what can be put aside to focus on what’s important.

BLM’s Operational Medical Support program collaborates with Yosemite National Park

Wildland fire makes for an environment with many inherent risks. Considering that wildland firefighting involves aircraft, parachutes, chainsaws, hand tools, and ignition devices, a wide variety of injuries are possible. While of course the best way to treat an injury is to prevent it in the first place, it’s still essential to have trained people on the ground to provide emergency care in a wildland fire environment.

To better meet this need, the BLM Fire program established the Operational Medical Support program (OMSP) in 2021. The program trains professional wildland firefighters (such as engine crews, helitack, hotshots, smokejumpers, etc.) that are emergency medical technicians or emergency medical responders on essential skills for taking care of wildland firefighters. The main focus is initial resuscitation, incident medical leadership, and patient extraction. The program has provided training to 500 individuals in the past three years.

 A recent assignment in California’s Yosemite National Park offered a unique interagency partnership opportunity for OMSP, the Public Health Service (PHS), and the National Park Service. Dr. Andrew Southard, Chief Medical Officer for BLM Fire and the OMSP National Medical Director, went on 10-day assignment as medical clinician at the Yosemite National Park medical clinic. He was accompanied by BLMer Tyler McCowan, an Emergency Medical Technician and the OMSP National Program Manager. The clinic is staffed in part by PHS, which provides medical direction to Yosemite search and rescue (SAR) and emergency medical service teams.

 During their assignment in Yosemite, Dr. Southard and McCowan worked with about 75 patients in the clinic, handling cases such as minor injuries, sprains, poison ivy, COVID, asthma, hyponatremia, acute mountain sickness, trauma, heat illness, burns, lacerations, and pediatric cases. They also worked with the SAR team and participated in patient extractions. This allowed for valuable knowledge sharing about field equipment and extraction techniques.

 When injuries occur on the fireline, just like in the wilderness of a national park, traditional emergency medical services often cannot reach the patient or are significantly delayed. People in the field must rely on each other to provide initial care until they can be extracted and delivered to the closest definitive medical services. OMSP provides training, protocols, equipment, quality assurance, and medical control to ensure that there are people on the fireline up to this serious task. The Yosemite assignment provided valuable experience of the high volume and broad spectrum of medical incidents that occur in one of the nation’s most popular tourist destinations.
