Every year on November 14th, Children's Day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, popularly known as Chacha Nehru. He was India's first free prime minister and had a soft spot in his heart for kids. In addition to being an excellent politician, he was also a freedom fighter. After putting in so much effort to improve Indian education, he envisioned a nation where education was the cornerstone of the path to success. Nehru desired that children value education because it develops character and prepares them to meet future challenges. He enthusiastically supported kids' freedom rights to an education. Therefore, his birthday was the ideal day to commemorate Children's Day—a day that not only commemorates the birth of a great politician and leader, but also the future vision of our nation.

Every year on November 14th, India celebrates Children's Day with great zeal. Teachers and students at schools and colleges celebrate it with a lot of fervour and joy. Various events and student-led activities are held to celebrate it. Colourful balloons, multicoloured paints, and other festive items are used to decorate school buildings. Children's Day is observed on November 14th, the anniversary of Nehru's birth, because he had a special affection for young people. Children across the nation organise a variety of inspiring and informative cultural programmes in their schools and universities to celebrate the day. They take part in activities such as singing Hindi and English songs, reciting poetry, giving speeches, dancing, plays, to celebrate Chacha Nehru's outstanding contributions to the nation.

He was a fierce supporter of the welfare, education, and rights of children. He believed that children are the country's bright future and leaders. They should be given kind treatment and a lot of love and appreciation. By taking part in different kinds of activities, we may increase public awareness of the importance of defending kids from social exploitation and child labour. By making the day unique and celebrating it with much fanfare, we can reach a larger audience with this message. Children are encouraged to strive to be like Nehru by following in his footsteps.

On November 14 of each year, India celebrates Children's Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation's first prime minister. It is observed to offer homage and respect to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. People gather at Pt. Nehru's cremation site to pay their respects to India's great leader. The Prime Minister, President, Cabinet Ministers, and other top officials lay wreaths at his Samadhi. The students thereafter chant prayers and hymns in a beautiful manner. On this special day, people recall his tremendous sacrifices, accomplishments, and contributions to national peace initiatives and international politics.

Building a solid base of support for the newly independent India was a goal of Nehru's that reflected his distinct vision for the country. In order to give the less fortunate members of society a better future, he got involved in teaching others.

Chanting of the National anthem and the staging of short theatrical productions are two examples of how festivities take on a unique form. There are also celebrations with a variety of events in both Parliament and Teen Murti, where Nehru lived as Prime Minister.

Children’s Day Significance

Here are a few of the factors that make Children's Day important and noteworthy:-

Jawahar Lal Nehru was a fierce supporter of the welfare, education, and rights of children. According to Nehru, ‘Tomorrow's India will be created by today's children. The way we raise kids will decide how the nation develops’.

Because education builds character and prepares you to handle issues in the future, Nehru wished for youngsters to appreciate education. He enthusiastically supported kids' unalienable rights to an education.

Nehru worked very hard to make his vision of what a new India should seem like a reality. Children's education was one of Nehru's legacies, which he left behind after his death.

Activities For Children's Day

Children can make memories on children's day that they will always appreciate. It can be difficult to plan something unique and special for your kids each year, but it will be enjoyable if you use some of these fun activities. Here are some suggestions for planning fun things to do for Children's Day—

Have a traditional picnic in the park with your pupils, complete with sandwiches, snacks, kid-friendly drinks, etc., to commemorate this wonderful Day. On Children's Day, the focus is on spending quality time with family, instructors, and classmates, even if everyone enjoys going on picnics.

Alternate between student and teacher responsibilities for one day. Give your students the role of educators. Let them teach whatever they choose.

At school, students frequently eat lunch with their friends. A potluck could be a nice idea so that the students can socialise with people outside of their own circle and eat with their seniors and juniors.

Costume parties are among the most creative and engaging activities for kids. The same holds true for adults. Children can join in pleasant party activities while dressing up as their favourite sci-fi or comical characters, dancing, singing and eating cake.

Here we have shared an easy essay on Children’s Day below in the article

History Of Children’s Day

The inaugural Children’s Day in India was observed on November 20, which is a little-known fact. Following the UN’s announcement that the day will be designated as Children’s Day, this was done. However, to honor Jawaharlal Nehru’s compassion and commitment to children, the date of Children’s Day observance was moved to November 14th in 1964.

Children’s Day is observed in India through a variety of cultural events and entertaining activities that are put on by private organizations, NGOs, and educational institutions. In addition to being occasionally given sweets and other delights, students are frequently permitted to wear colorful clothing in their educational facilities.

Importance Of Children’s Day

It is impossible to minimize the motivations underlying this day’s celebration. One of the main causes of the significance of this day is the fact that children in our nation are frequently made to work long hours for little money. They are still behind because they do not have access to contemporary schooling. They must improve their standing, which will be feasible if everyone in India is aware of their obligations. When educated children from narrow-minded families that adhere to a blind belief system reject such worthless cultural practices, the youngsters are compelled to do so. The primary goal of this festival is to spread the idea that “today’s children will be the future of tomorrow” to as many people as possible.

By engaging in these kinds of activities, we may raise public awareness about the need to protect children from child labour and other forms of social exploitation. We can spread these messages to an increasing number of people by making the day special and celebrating it with fanfare and fanfare. Children’s Day celebrations will be successful when there is no child labour in our nation and when all children have equal access to education.

About Nehru & Children

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and was often referred to by the youngsters as Chacha Nehru. He made special efforts to implement welfare programs for kids since he had a deep admiration for them. Nehru had a great deal of regard for children because he understood that they had the ability to influence the country’s future. Along with his friendly demeanor toward kids, he had a keen awareness of the need to protect the well-being of youngsters, which helped him become well-known among young people. He asked for Children’s Day to be observed on the day of his birthday, which demonstrated how much he cared for kids.

The youngsters of today will shape the India of tomorrow, as philosopher Jawaharlal Nehru once remarked. The future of the nation will depend on how we raise them. Children’s Day is a lovely opportunity to honor and commemorate Chacha Nehru’s well-known ideas. Children’s Day celebrations are a wonderful way to remind everyone—children and adults—that the next generation is the real hope for the nation. Therefore, everyone should be aware of their obligation to give every child a happy upbringing.

Regardless of their social or economic standing, the love and care we provide for our children today will determine the future of our nation. The celebration of Children’s Day pays homage to this idea.

Children’s Day: History, Significance and Celebration Around the World

Kris

Contents

International Children's Day is a public holiday annually observed in many countries on June 1st. This year, in 2021, we are gonna celebrate International Children's Day on Tuesday.

International Children's Day: History

The first "World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children" was held in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925, which is when this holiday first came into existence.

Following the conference, some governments declared a day as Children's Day to raise awareness of children's issues. According to Office Holiday, because no particular date was suggested, nations used the one that most closely reflected their respective cultures.

Many former Soviet states use June 1 because it is "The International Day for Protection of Children," which was established on that day in 1950 as a result of the 1949 Moscow congress of the Women's International Democratic Federation.

With the establishment of World Children's Day , UN member states acknowledged that all children, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, or national or social origin, have the right to care, love, understanding, adequate nutrition, medical care, free education, protection from all forms of exploitation, and the opportunity to grow up in an atmosphere of global peace and brotherhood.

Children's Day has been celebrated in many nations, but it is typically not observed as a public holiday. For instance, some nations observe November 20 as Universal Children's Day in honor of Children's Day. The United Nations created this day in 1954 with the intention of promoting the welfare of kids all over the world.

International Children's Day: Significance

Since 1990, the UN General Assembly has observed International Children's Day on the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The International Children's Da is a festival specifically for kids, as suggested by its name. Children are the future of humanity, so this event serves as a reminder to adults to better protect and care for their precious children.

Making World Children's Day relevant for their societies, communities, and countries can involve parents, teachers, nurses, and medical professionals, as well as government officials and civil society activists, religious leaders, community elders, business titans, and media moguls.

The celebration of children's rights on International Children's Day gives each of us a motivational starting point for actions and conversations that will improve the world for children.

How is Children's Day celebrated in different countries?

On June 1st, about a quarter of the world's population observes Children's Day . There are currently about 2.6 billion minors in the world, which makes up about 30% of the population, according to official UN statistics. This population is classified as "children" according to the official classification.

However, given the difficulty in accessing education, early sexual initiation, and psychological abuse in families, generation Z's problems are hardly typically those of "children." On the first day of summer, safeguarding the interests of children is brought to everyone's attention, and newly emerging issues are closely scrutinized.

The origins of Children's Day can be traced back to a special day set aside for child baptisms in the church in 1856, which was originally known as Rose Day. Nearly 150 years later, in 1995, President Clinton declared October 8th to be National Children's Day. The following president, George W. Bush, continued this initiative when he proclaimed June 1st as National Child's Day in 2001. Today, though, this holiday has been moved up one week to the second Sunday in June.

The importance of the principles learned and the good deeds started on Children's Day being carried over to the other 364 days of the year is stressed by activists involved in its planning. The main motto of Children's Day in the US is "Celebrate wherever you are, do something wonderful," which is a worldwide call to acceptance, cooperation, and kindness. Therefore, this day is entirely devoted to teaching moral lessons that benefit children, as well as teaching how to set and achieve long-term goals that are constructive.

Addressing the sustainability issue is also crucial on that day. Given that they stand in for the next generation, children are likely the most significant and appropriate group in the world for environmental discourse. On Children's Day, many initiatives are undertaken to teach the next generation of adults how to better care for the environment now and in the future.

Before 1964, the United Nations recognized November 20 as Children's Day, and it was observed on that day every year. The date of our beloved Chacha Nehru's birth was designated as Children's Day in India after his passing. On this day, plays, competitions, cultural events, and other events are organized by schools and colleges, and children receive gifts like candy, books, stationery, and other items. Additionally, as proclaimed by the UN, November 20 is observed as Universal Children's Day.

Every child deserves the best of everything, including education and nurturing, as this day serves as a reminder. Since they are the foundation of the country, how well they are raised will determine its future. Keep your inner child alive, you who are now adults!

The first of June is designated as "Kindertag" in Germany, where it is observed annually. From 1950 (in the German Democratic Republic), when the holiday was first observed in the nation, it quickly became a highlight of the year for German children. German children typically receive greetings and gifts from their parents on this day.

Additionally, this is the time when they participate in special school activities like field trips and the like. However, Children's Day is widely observed on September 20, which is also the day it was first observed, according to Kids Gen.

The International Children's Day is observed in Poland. Children's Day, also known as "Dzien Dziecka" (literally "child's day"), is observed on June 1 in Poland. The first "International Children's Day" was instituted in Poland in 1952.

Children's Day is not a holiday in Poland, but since it falls at the start of summer, which is roughly the end of the academic year there, it is typically a day off for kids. It is a time when parents typically purchase inexpensive presents for their kids.

First week of June is a time for celebrations planned in kid-friendly parks and entertainment venues. For the occasion, schools typically plan special events for the kids.

Children's Day, also known as "National Child Day" in Canada, is observed on November 20 of every year. It is also known as the Child Day Act because the day was made a national holiday in Canada when the "Child Day Act" was passed by the Canadian Parliament in 1993 in response to the United Nations General Assembly's recommendation that the country observe a Universal Children's Day. Canada does not observe National Child Day as a holiday.

The Dia das Crianças is celebrated in Brazil on October 12. It's also interesting to note that this nation's version of the holiday will be 100 years old in 2020! The first time in Brazil's history that children's issues were given official attention was in 1920. The deputy of the federal assembly was the one who had started this celebration. The date of October 12th was formally approved in a few years, in 1924.

Children's Day is celebrated in a variety of unique ways around the world. School and university students in Russia get their summer breaks started on June 1. In contrast, Mexico celebrates Children's Day on April 30th, right in the middle of the academic year. On this day, both teachers and parents dismiss their students early.

Children's Day is celebrated twice yearly in Chile, once on the second Sunday of August and again on the first Wednesday of October.

In contrast, Australia has decided to celebrate in this manner on more than one day. A full week has been set aside for the nation to celebrate its youth. The people of the Philippines have taken it a step further by celebrating children for an entire month.

Universal Children’s Day

Universal Children’s Day The United Nations' (UN) Universal Children's Day, which was established in 1954, is celebrated on November 20 each year to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide. UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, promotes and coordinates this special day, which also works towards improving children's welfare. What do people do? Many schools and other educational institutions make a special effort to inform children of their rights according to the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Teachers stimulate their pupils to think about the differences between themselves and others and explain the idea of “rights”. In countries where the rights of children are generally well-respected, teachers may draw attention to situations in countries where this is not the case. In some areas UNICEF holds events to draw particular attention to children's rights. These may be to stimulate interest in the media around the world or to start nationwide campaigns, for instance on the importance of immunizations or breastfeeding.

Many countries, including Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, hold Universal Children's Day events on November 20 to mark the anniversaries of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, other countries hold events on different dates, such as the fourth Wednesday in October (Australia) and November 14 (India). Universal Children's Day is not observed in the United States, although a similar observance, National Child's Day, is held on the first Sunday in June. Public life Universal Children's Day is a global observance and not a public holiday.

Survey Saturday, Nov. 20, is Universal Children’s Day, as declared by the United Nations, and a new survey of children illuminates the wants and needs of kids living in poverty. The Small Voices, Big Dreams survey questioned children ages 10 to 12 in 30 countries throughout Africa, Asia and the Americas. Conducted by ChildFund Alliance, which is comprised of global child development organizations, the survey found that one in three children goes to bed hungry at least once a week; more than 25% spend half of every day working, including household chores and other work but not counting school or homework.

Importance It was established in 1954 to protect children working long hours in dangerous circumstances and allow all children access to an education. The UN General Assembly recommended that all countries should establish a Universal Children's Day on an "appropriate" day. Celebration Children's Day is celebrated on various days in many places around the world, Ecuador, Czech Republic, Albania, Armenia, Angola, Mongolia, Ukraine, Vietnam celebrate it on June 1 Sweden, Sri Lanka, El Salvador, Guatemala celebrate it on October 1

World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day

Every year on November 20th, “ World Children’s Day ”, also known as “ Universal Children’s Day ”, is celebrated to raise global awareness among children, bring them together, and take steps to improve their well-being. The United Nations Children’s Fund, or UNICEF, supports and coordinates this special day, which also aims to improve the health of children. It is an annual commemorative date observed in honor of children, with the date varying by region. The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1959, which is a significant date. The UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child on this day in 1989. Since 1990, World Children’s Day has also commemorated the date on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In Geneva, during the World Conference on Child Welfare in 1925, the first International Children’s Day was declared. The Women’s International Democratic Federation in Moscow declared 1 June as the International Day for the Protection of Children on November 4, 1949. Since 1950, 1 June is celebrated as Children’s Day in many Communist and post-Communist countries. On December 14, 1954, the United Nations General Assembly proposed that beginning in 1956, all countries hold an annual event known as Universal Children’s Day to promote global fraternity and understanding among children and to promote children’s welfare. Individual countries should select a suitable date for this case, according to the recommendations. At the time, the United Nations General Assembly agreed that all countries designate a “suitable” date for Children’s Day. Many countries heeded this advice, and Universal Children’s Day has been observed annually on November 20 since then.

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses, and physicians, political officials and civil society advocates, religious and community elders, business leaders and media practitioners, as well as young people and children themselves, can all help to make World Children’s Day meaningful to their families, cultures, and nations. Children have a right to food, health care, education, and protection from exploitation, according to the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child. The Declaration took the bold step of affirming these rights for all children and making it the international community’s responsibility to prioritize children’s rights in planning. On November 20, 1989, the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It is an international treaty that establishes children’s legal, fiscal, educational, health, and political rights. Many schools and other educational institutions make a concerted effort to educate children about their rights under the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Teachers encourage students to consider the distinctions between themselves and others and to clarify the concept of “freedom.” Teachers in countries where children’s rights are generally respected may draw attention to situations in other countries where this is not the case. Despite economic and social development in recent decades, children’s welfare has been largely ignored, especially in developing and third-world countries. Their rights are being violated in almost every region, and they are being physically and psychologically abused. UNICEF organizes activities in certain countries to raise awareness of children’s rights. This may include generating worldwide awareness in the media or launching national campaigns, such as on the benefits of immunizations or breastfeeding. Despite the decline in recent years, there are still millions of hungry children around the world. According to a study, half of all children under the age of five suffer from “hidden hunger,” which is described as a lack of essential nutrients. Education is a critical factor in a child’s overall growth. One of the goals of Universal Children’s Day is to improve the educational system under which our children are educated. It’s a complicated system that needs to be updated on a regular basis and constantly monitored. UNICEF is constantly working to improve the educational environment. Universal Children’s Day is more than just a day to celebrate children for who they are; it’s also a day to raise awareness about children who have been victims of violence in the form of bullying, exploitation, and prejudice all over the world. Some countries use children as laborers, while others are engulfed in violent strife, living on the streets, and suffering from inequalities such as religion, minority problems, and disabilities. About 153 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are currently forced into child labor. In 1999, the International Labour Organization passed a resolution prohibiting and eradicating the worst forms of child labor, such as slavery, child trafficking, and child pornography. On November 20, several nations, including Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, commemorate the anniversaries of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child by holding Universal Children’s Day events. Other nations, however, hold activities on various days, such as the fourth Wednesday in October in Australia and November 14 in the United States (India). In the United States, Universal Children’s Day is not observed, but a similar commemoration, National Child’s Day, is celebrated on the first Sunday in June. World Children’s Day provides each of us with an inspiring starting point for advocating for, promoting, and celebrating children’s rights, which we can then translate into dialogues and actions that will help children live in a better world.

Trump repeats false claims that children are undergoing transgender surgery during the school day

Donald Trump speaks

Former President Donald Trump repeated his false claim that children are undergoing transition-related surgery during their school day, worsening fears among some conservatives that educators are pushing children to become transgender and aiding transitions without parental awareness.

“Can you imagine you’re a parent and your son leaves the house and you say, ‘Jimmy, I love you so much, go have a good day in school,’ and your son comes back with a brutal operation? Can you even imagine this? What the hell is wrong with our country?” Trump said Saturday at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, a vital swing state.

Trump made similar remarks — saying children were returning home from school after having had surgical procedures — the previous weekend at an event hosted by Moms for Liberty, a parent activist group that has gained outsized influence in conservative politics in recent years.

Asked by one of the group’s co-founders how he would address the “explosion in the number of children who identify as transgender,” Trump said: “Your kid goes to school and comes home a few days later with an operation. The school decides what’s going to happen with your child.”

There is no evidence that a student has ever undergone gender-affirming surgery at a school in the U.S., nor is there evidence that a U.S. school has sent a student to receive such a procedure elsewhere.

About half the states ban transition-related surgery for minors, and even in states where such care is still legal, it is rare . In addition, guidelines from several major medical associations say a parent or guardian must provide consent before a minor undergoes gender-affirming care, including transition-related surgery, according to the American Association of Medical Providers . Most major medical associations in the U.S. support gender-affirming care for minors experiencing gender dysphoria. For those who opt for such care and have the support of their guardians and physicians, that typically involves puberty blockers for preteens and hormone replacement therapy for older teens.

A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign did not substantiate his claims and pointed NBC News to reports about parents’ being left in the dark about their children’s gender transitions at school.

“President Trump will ensure all Americans are treated equally under the law regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation,” said the spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt.

Kate King, president of the National Association of School Nurses, said that even when it comes to administering over-the-counter medication such as Advil or Tylenol, school nurses need explicit permission from a physician and a parent.

“There is no way that anyone is doing surgery in a classroom in schools,” she said when she was asked about Trump’s remarks.

Trump’s claims stand out even amid years of allegations by conservative politicians and right-wing media pundits that teachers, Democratic lawmakers and LGBTQ adults are “grooming” or “indoctrinating” children to become gay or transgender.

The practice of labeling LGBTQ people, particularly gay men and trans women, as “groomers” and “pedophiles” of children had been relegated to the margins for decades, but the tropes resurfaced during the heated debate over Florida’s so-called Don’t Say Gay law, which Gov. Ron DeSantis signed in March 2022. The law limits the instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity in school and has been replicated in states across the country.

At the Republican National Convention in July, at least a dozen speakers — including DeSantis and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. — mentioned gender identity or sexuality negatively in their speeches, according to an NBC News analysis. DeSantis, for example, alleged that Democrats want to “impose gender ideology” on kindergartners.

Nearly 70% of public K-12 teachers who have been teaching for more than one year said topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity “rarely or never” come up in their classrooms, according to a recent poll from the Pew Research Center. Half of all teachers polled, including 62% of elementary school teachers, said elementary school students should not learn about gender identity in school.

Trump vowed last year that if he is re-elected he would abolish gender-affirming care for minors, which he equated to “child abuse” and “child sexual mutilation.” This year, Trump also said he would roll back Title IX protections for transgender students “on day one” of his potential second presidential administration.

His campaign website says he would, if he is re-elected, cut federal funding for schools that push “gender ideology on our children” and “keep men out of women’s sports.”

More broadly, Trump has promised to eliminate the Education Department, claiming that doing so would give states more authority over education.

During his first administration, Trump barred trans people from enlisting in the military — which he has vowed to do again if he is re-elected — and rolled back several antidiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people.

BOSTON — The Red Sox designated Bobby Dalbec for assignment Sunday.

Once Boston’s starting first baseman, Dalbec struggled to make contact and spent most of the past two seasons at Triple-A Worcester .

“If you look at the swing and miss percentages, he’s up there,” manager Alex Cora said. “He’s still a good player. Good defender. Has some pop. He’s a good athlete. So we’ll what happens in the upcoming days and then we’ll know more.”

If Dalbec clears waivers (meaning no other team claims him), the Red Sox would be able to outright him to Worcester where he would not be on the 40-man roster. He is eligible for minor league free agency this offseason if he still remains off the 40-man roster once free agency begins.

He crushed 25 homers as a rookie in 2021. Since then, he has batted just .198 with a .269 on-base percentage, .330 slugging percentage, .599 OPS, 14 homers, 13 doubles, two triples, 48 RBIs, 41 walks and 198 strikeouts in 175 games (499 plate appearances) games for Boston. The 29-year-old right-handed hitter has a 36.8% strikeout percentage in the majors, punching out 384 times in 1,044 plate appearances.

Dalbec, a 2016 fourth round pick out of Arizona, batted .255 with a .341 on-base percentage, .492 slugging percentage, .833 OPS, 19 homers, 17 doubles, one triple, 64 runs, 59 RBIs, 41 walks and 132 strikeouts in 85 games (364 plate appearances) for the WooSox this year. He appeared in 37 games for Boston this year, slashing .133/.217/.193/.410 (93 plate appearances).

Cora was asked if Dalbec could benefit from a change of scenery.

“I hate to say that, right, but it’s happened before,” Cora said. “Like I said, let’s see what happens in the upcoming days and we’ll know more.”

Boston designated Dalbec to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for right-handed starter Richard Fitts who will make his major league debut Sunday . Boston cleared a spot on the active roster for Fitts by optioning righty reliever Chase Shugart to Worcester.

Kids arrested, schools closed amid wave of threats after Georgia shooting

children's day assignment

The same day a teenager opened fire at a rural Georgia high school and killed two teachers and two classmates, a 15-year-old in a neighboring county was taken into custody after fellow students heard him making threats on the school bus about "finishing the job.”

Two days later, a 13-year-old girl was arrested after threatening to carry out a shooting at her Florida middle school on Instagram, a post she later claimed was a joke.

On Tuesday, a 12-year-old in Texas was charged with making a “terroristic threat causing public fear” after threatening to “shoot up the school” and showing photos of firearms during a Facetime call with another student.

These are among dozens of cases across the country of violent threats against schools in the week since the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, threats that led authorities to arrest children and schools to close , lock down , or increase police presence, according to research shared with USA TODAY by Everytown for Gun Safety.

Among more than three dozen threats logged by the violence prevention group and USA TODAY, some are heartrending – a gun confiscated from a 6-year-old student in Tennessee – and others devastating – a 15-year-old boy grievously injured in a shooting at a high school in Omaha, Nebraska .

How to tell whether threats are real or not is a dilemma that has come into sharp focus since the Georgia shooting.

“The best way to assess the legitimacy of a school shooting threat is to know if there's access to a firearm because it's just bluster if there is no access,” said Nick Suplina, senior vice president for law and policy of Everytown for Gun Safety.

The revelation that authorities questioned the teen suspect in the Georgia shooting a year earlier but took no action after an online threat to “shoot up a middle school” has sparked a deeper conversation about how thoroughly police investigate these threats and what should happen to the often very young perpetrators.

“We have to avoid both overreacting and underreacting to student threats, and behavioral threat assessment is the best way to do that,” said Dewey Cornell, a forensic clinical psychologist and professor of education at the University of Virginia.

By the numbers: Who are the young children being arrested at schools?

Cornell said high-profile school shootings typically lead to a surge in student arrests, “but unless we use a formal behavioral threat assessment approach, there is a risk that many young people will be arrested for threats that are not serious."

Deadly stakes, life-changing consequences to school threat investigations

David Riedman, a criminal justice researcher and creator of the K-12 School Shooting Database, said arresting a child for a threat that is not considered serious is not an effective way to prevent violence in schools and would likely result in them losing access to critical support systems.

“The strongest correlate to somebody being a lifetime habitual criminal offender and having multiple incarcerations is somebody that has justice involvement as a juvenile,” Riedman said. “So pretty much, if you arrest a kid for some type of threat, there's a very good chance that you're turning that kid into a lifetime, habitual offender. So that's not a good outcome at all.”

Whether a school shooting threat ends with an arrest or the case being closed is often left to the discretion of the individual doing the initial investigation. In Georgia, Riedman and other experts said they were disturbed to see deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office had dismissed concerns so quickly after interviewing the teenager and his father in 2023.

The FBI had traced a tip about online threats to commit a school shooting to Colt Gray, then 13, who denied making the threat. His father told officers he did not have unfettered access to guns in the house. In body camera video obtained by USA TODAY, a deputy could be heard saying they had to take the teenager at his word. The FBI later said there was no probable cause for an arrest.

Officers investigating a school shooting threat should look deeper to determine whether students have expressed a reason for wanting to commit a shooting, if they have planned or prepared in any way, for example by researching previous school shootings, Riedman said.

He added that the incident in Georgia shows the need for “a standardized, national system for information reporting,” around school shooting threats similar to the effort to combat terrorism after the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center , an effort he said could be assisted by artificial intelligence.

“It's that lots of different people in different agencies and different places all have the pieces of information that you would need to put together,” Riedman said. “But unless you create a standardized system and a standardized playbook that everybody's working towards, all of that piecemeal information is never going to get connected.”

How often do school shooting threats lead to arrest?

There is no national database tracking threats against schools, but Riedman estimated there may be more than 100,000 each year. In a study of about 1,000 shooting threats at K–12 schools over four years, Riedman found the most commonly known resolution was the arrest of the person who made the threat.

In the past week alone, police have apprehended children in at least seven states.

◾ In New Jersey, at least three young people were taken into custody Monday after an online threat against schools in four districts led two to close, canceling classes for almost 6,000 students.

◾ A student was taken into custody after making a “vague social media threat” against a Missouri middle school Monday on TikTok, Fox 4 Kansas City reported.

◾ A student in Pennsylvania was taken into custody Monday after a school shooting threat caused the district to cancel all classes, WHTM-TV reported.

◾ In Florida, arrests were made in two school threat cases. A 13-year-old boy was arrested Sunday, accused of making social media threats against Madison County schools on Instagram. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a 14-year-old girl Saturday for making written threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting in multiple stories on Instagram Saturday.

Cornell, who in 2001 developed the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines , said that when school officials and law enforcement followed such guidelines in Virginia and Florida, his research showed arrests were incredibly rare. In the 2021-2022 school year, there were more than 22,000 threats made against K-12 schools in 60 of the state’s 67 school districts, according to a report from the University of Virginia Youth Violence Project. Students were only arrested in 0.7% of the cases and were incarcerated in even fewer.

But adopting formal threat assessment policies or protocols is required by law in only 18 states, required by policy in 16 states and “encouraged” in five, according to the National Association of State Boards of Education.

False threat reports complicate enforcement

Schools have become popular targets of false reports and swatting calls. Swatting, which originated in the world of video gamers and streamers, often involves harassment by making a false report to 911. Claiming that a crime is in progress at a target location like a school can prompt police to respond with guns drawn.

During the 2022-2023 school year, nearly 64% of violent incidents and threats to schools tracked by the Educator's School Safety Network "were false reports of an active shooter within the school."

There's no federal law criminalizing swatting despite several attempts by lawmakers, but at least 10 states have some kind of criminal law against swatting – California , Florida , Maryland , Michigan , Missouri , New Jersey , Ohio , Texas , Virginia and Wisconsin . Some categorize the crime as a misdemeanor, others as a felony.

The increasing number of false reports can complicate efforts to prevent real school shootings. In Chula Vista, California, this week, police launched an investigation after a 12-year-old reported receiving a text message from someone threatening a school shooting, the department said .

Police initially didn’t believe the threat was credible and later determined the threatening message was actually created by the student who first reported the incident. The child was arrested on charges including making criminal threats and filing a false police report.

Trump said fixing child care would not be very expensive. Here are price tags for other proposals

Asked recently how he would bring down the high cost of child care, former President Donald Trump said doing so would be relatively “not very expensive” — at least, not compared with revenue from tax hikes he would impose on foreign goods.

Economists are skeptical tariffs would raise enough to cover Trump’s tax cuts as well as a large-scale child care program, and Democrats said higher tariffs would raise costs for families by increasing the prices of consumer goods. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not respond to questions on his plans for child care.

On one point, some child care experts agree with Trump: Fixing the child care system would not be very expensive compared with some other government expenditures. But as past proposals have shown, the price tags associated with a federally funded child care system make it difficult politically to achieve.

“I do think his comments are somewhat accurate — that fixes to child care, making child care more accessible and more affordable for families is actually, in the scheme of things, probably not that expensive relative to many of the other things that we already spend money on,” said Chloe Gibbs, a University of Notre Dame economist who served on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2022 to 2023.

Image

Trump made the remarks on child care during an appearance Thursday at the New York Economic Club.

“We are going to be taking in trillions of dollars,” Trump said, citing his proposed tariffs. “And as much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it is relatively speaking not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in.”

His election opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, says she wants to lower the financial burden of care for families with children or disabled adults. She says she would raise pay for child care workers, preschool teachers and other professional caregivers. Her plan lacks specifics on how she would pay for those initiatives.

The child care industry is what Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has called “a broken market.” Despite low wages, labor costs are high in part because one person can only supervise a small number of children. Those costs are passed on to families, who often struggle to afford tuition. Mothers end up staying home because child care costs more than they would earn in the workforce.

Many argue child care will never be affordable for American families without a massive infusion of taxpayer money.

Three years ago, President Joe Biden proposed a program to ensure no family would spend more than 7% of their household income on child care as part of Build Back Better, a suite of bills intended to strengthen the social safety net and tackle climate change. Its proposals for affordable child care and universal prekindergarten alone were priced at $400 billion over ten years, and did not survive concerns from Sen. Joe Manchin , a centrist Democrat from West Virginia, that the total cost of the package was too high.

Biden has reintroduced the child care and prekindergarten proposals as part of his budget plan, but it is unlikely to get off the ground.

High-quality early education can shift the trajectory of a child’s life, said Hailey Gibbs, a policy analyst with the left-leaning Center for American Progress. Researchers have connected it to higher lifetime earnings, and lower incarceration and dropout rates.

Another proposal, put forward in 2019 by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, would have established a network of public early learning centers and home-based day cares free for low-income families. Warren proposed funding the programs, estimated to cost $700 billion over a decade, with a tax on millionaires.

Such proposals have failed in large part because of the costs involved, but there has been bipartisan support for some fixes. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, a Democrat, and Sen. Katie Britt, an Alabama Republican, in July jointly introduced bills that would expand the tax credit households receive when they pay for child and dependent care. It would also increase the tax credit for companies that provide child care to their employees.

During his own administration, Trump proposed a $1 billion fund that would have given states grants for child care and made the money contingent upon them slimming down regulations. It never materialized.

Experts and advocates emphasize the spending on child care is an investment that can pay dividends. In the short term, it could get many more parents and caretakers back to work. The Council for a Strong America, a since-disbanded nonprofit that advocated for public funding to support youth, estimated last year the nation was losing about $122 billion in revenue and productivity because of child care issues.

Days of Creation Printables & Activities

Days of Creation Printables

Teaching God’s creation to your children is important in laying down a firm Biblical foundation. Too often we take for granted that our kids will learn about God’s creation through the church, VBS, or that they will pick it up through reading Bible stories. The story of Creation is far too imperative to leave to chance. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.” Your early learners will love to learn about the days of creation. Kids are always fascinated to hear about what God created and when. I encourage you to teach your child about God’s creation or else the world will teach them something else. God bless you on this venture! Take a look at our Days of Creation Printables and explore the amazing things He made! Be sure to check out our other Teaching Bible Truths resources.

God created everything reader.

God made Me printables

This emergent reader is one of my favorites amongst the Days of Creation printables. This reader is simple and repetitive. We used it at the beginning of the unit. I love that the kids can color it, making it their own. This is one reader we read multiple times. The kids love that they can “read” it too. Since the sentence structure repeats itself, kids are able to memorize the words. For students just starting to read, this book is a great confidence builder! Download your own copy here!

Day 2 of Creation Activities

Activity sheet.

Teaching God's Creation

The Day 2 Creation activity sheet is easy to implement in a class setting and with your own children. There are a few different ways you can use this. Of course, it could simply be a coloring sheet, but I personally like to use it with cotton balls in the clouds and blue paint or marker in the waves. A number of years ago I used this same concept but cut out waves from blue construction paper, used cotton balls for clouds and pasted it all to a sheet of white construction paper. So, whatever works better for you!

Hands-on demonstration.

Teaching God's Creation

This hands-on demonstration is fun for the kids and doesn’t take too much prep or time. It’s entertaining to see your kids face too when you let them spray the shaving cream into the blue water. Obviously, the blue water represents the water on the Earth and the shaving cream represents the water in the air- clouds.

Day 3 of Creation Activities

On day 3 of creation, God created land and all the plants that inhabit it including trees, grass, and flowers. There are many different ways to approach a craft to represent this day. The ideas are mind blowing! Just do a quick search on the web and you will understand my meaning! The first craft is the one we chose to do this year, but in a class setting where the outdoors is unavailable, try the second option.

Nature Collage

Teaching God's Creation

It is time to get outside and collect nature items such as leaves, flowers, grass, and dirt. Give your kids a bucket, bag, or shoe box to collect their discoveries in. Once your kiddo has a nice size collection, go through it with them or as a group. In the past, we have used shoe boxes so that once we got our items collected we could add construction paper to the outside with the words, “On the 3rd day, God created land, trees, grass, plants, and flowers.” This year we don’t have enough shoe boxes, so I plan on giving them a small poster board. Most kids will love the idea of gluing dirt, leaves, and flowers to create their own one of a kind collage.

Teaching God's Creation

This option is an easy go-to printable activity sheet. There are a couple of ways to approach this craft. One, you can cut out the clipart on page 3 and let your students glue the flowers, bushes, and additional trees to the scene. Another option is to let your your children draw around the tree. Thirdly, a fun approach to this activity sheet is to supply your student with green paper for bushes and stickers for the flowers.

DOWNLOAD Day 3 Creation Activity Sheet

Day 4 of creation activities.

Teaching God's Creation

Day 4 of Creation Activity Sheet is perfect for early learners. Start by reminding your child that God separated light from darkness on the 1 st day and made day and night. In that, your child may want to color the day side yellow and the night side gray or black. After coloring, students will cut out the great lights that God created on the 4 th day. Next, students can paste the sun, moon, and stars to the correct side… day or night.

DOWNLOAD Day 4 Creation Activity Sheet

Science lab investigation.

This science lab is inexpensive and effective for teaching light and shadows. Shadows are created with a light and an opaque object. If a light shines on an opaque object (solid object that light can not transmit), then a shadow will be made. Darkness is the absence of light. This lab uses the light from the Sun, opaque objects, and something to color with. In this lab, you are reminding your students that God created the sun to rule the day.

Teaching God's Creation

We decided to use toy dinosaur figurines as our opaque objects. My kids took paper, pencils, and their dinosaurs out to a sunny area. We taped the dinosaur feet to the paper so that the dinosaurs were more stable while we shaded in where the shadow was. It didn’t take us long before we started talking about how God calls us to be light in a dark world.

For older students, you can increase the complexity of this simple lab by leaving your materials out in the sun and then waiting for an hour or more to pass. When you and your student come back to where you left your paper and opaque object, you will find that the shadow moved. This is a good time to ask your student questions: Did the sun move? Did the Earth move? Did the opaque object move? You might want to bust out the globe and talk about how God made the Earth rotate on an axis causing day and night. Truthfully, this is a hard concept for younger kids to grasp, but you can at least expose them to the idea.

Day 5 of Creation Activities

Activity sheet 1.

Teaching God's creation

On the 5 th day of Creation, God created fowl and sea creatures. I have used these for a young preschooler class at church. If possible, let the students feel feathers and see pictures of different types of birds. Students can color the birds while you talk about the sound an owl makes. Take this time to discuss the sound a chicken makes and what hens lay (eggs). Eagles are pirds of prey and a sign of strength. Eagles wings are mentioned in the Bible in Isaiah 30:41. Most birds have a certain song or sound they make.

Activity Sheet 2

Teaching God's Creation

You may want to print the “God made fish” sheet onto the back of the first sheet. I usually give my students or kids a blue crayon and fish stickers to use with their ocean scene. They are encouraged to decorate their ocean scene with all kinds of sea creatures.

DOWNLOAD Day 5 Creation Activity Sheets

Day 6 of creation activities, cut & paste activity sheet.

In this activity set, you will find both colored and black and white images. I do this to accommodate the needs of a home setting as opposed to a larger class where you may want to save your ink! After giving each student page 2 of the pack, I then give them the written words, “God created animals. God created creeping things. God created man and woman.” While they are gluing it on, I read it to them.

Teaching God's Creation

Next, I pass out the animal clipart for them to glue to their papers. Then comes the creeping things. Finally, Adam and Eve are added to their papers. During this time, I talk to them about their favorite animals and what they think Adam and Eve looked like. Happy learning!

Creation Words Vowel Search

children's day assignment

Simple and sweet. This worksheet is a quick practice sheet that allows you to review the vowels with your early learner. It was meant to be used with a dot marker, but after we had an accident recently with our set of dot markers, we opted to put stickers on the vowels.

Creation ordinal number match-up.

children's day assignment

This is a quick and easy introduction to ordinal numbers. Have the student match the words with the ordinal numbers. To guide your child, read the first ordinal number (3rd) in the right column to them. Next, ask your child what word starts with the sound, “th.” Use your finger to point to the first word at the top of the left-hand column. Does “First” begin with the sound, “th?” Walk them through each word until they find the one that starts with the “th” sound. Have fun 🙂

The 2 page addition set has a total of 6 addition problems. I used these worksheets while focusing on a creation unit. It only features 3 addition problems per page. Creation Day #2 Lesson for Children’s Church

This children’s church lesson plan about Creation Day Two was first written for children age 5 – 11.  It could also be used as the Bible lesson for children’s Sunday school. This lesson is part of a series of Bible lessons about creation .Be sure to consider your own ministry context and modify it as needed. Please leave any feedback or suggestions for improvement in the comment box at the bottom of this page. Bible Story : The second day of Creation from Genesis 1:6-8 Learning Objectives : After this lesson, the children will demonstrate:

  • An understanding of what God created on the second day of creation . . . by making hand motions.
  • An understanding of Genesis 1:1-8 . . . by answering questions from the teacher.

Target Age : Kindergarten – 5 th Items Needed :

  • [print_link] this lesson plan
  • Bible: Genesis 1:6-8.  There is a detailed account of these verses below to help emphasize the importance of these few verses.
  • You can print off  these “ Creation Songs ” and use to lead the children to sing before the Bible lesson.

Teaching Plan: The Second Day of Creation

Bible Lesson Introduction **Review Creation Day #1** Following are some questions to review what God created on the first day of Creation.  The answers are in italics.

  • “What day of Creation was it in our lesson from last week?” One
  • “What did God create on the first day of creation?” heavens, earth, light
  • “What did God say to create light?” Let there be light.
  • “What shape did the earth have?” it had no shape
  • “What covered the earth?” the ocean
  • “What was the Spirit of God doing over the ocean?” hovering
  • “What is the difference between ‘making’ and ‘creating’?” to make something is to already have ingredients and just putting them together and to create something means to make something out of nothing
  • “Did God create or make the world?” create…He didn’t have anything to start with

Bible Lesson Have the children open their Bibles to Genesis 1:6-8. To help them find it, use the following questions. Answers in italics.

  • What is the first book of the Bible? Genesis
  • Which part of the Bible is Genesis in?  Old Testament

Read Genesis 1:6-8 aloud to the children.

“God said, “Let there be a huge space between the waters. Let it separate water from water.”  And that’s exactly what happened. God made the huge space between the waters. He separated the water that was under the space from the water that was above it.  God called the huge space “sky.” There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two.” NIrV (New International Reader’s Version)

Discuss the Bible Reading

  • God said, “Let there be a huge space between the waters. Let it separate water from water.”

This is showing us the power of God speaking.  He simply has to speak something into existence.  He said for a huge space to be between the waters.  So, up until this point everything was water.  There must have not been anything but water.  The earth was filled with water from top to bottom.  That is something that is extremely hard to imagine.  God knew that we would need air to breathe, so He made air.

  • And that’s exactly what happened. God made the huge space between the waters.

Notice the word “exactly” in the first sentence there.  Everything happened “exactly” how God said.  That is very detailed.  It doesn’t say, “And that’s somewhat what happened.”  No, it happened “exactly” the way God said it would.  God made a huge space between the waters, exactly how He said He would.

  • He separated the water that was under the space from the water that was above it.

God separated the water.  There wasn’t anything except water that filled the earth.  God now made a space in the water.  So, now there is water above and below the space.  The water below the space is easy to understand because we see the water below the space now, aka the oceans, seas, etc.  The water above the space is tricky.  Where is the water above the space? (allow for responses)  There isn’t a lake in the sky that we can’t see.  The clouds are water.  Rain, snow, sleet are all water that come from above the space.

  • God called the huge space “sky.”

God named it “sky”.  That’s what we still call it.  God knew that we would need to be able to call it something.

  • There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two.

So far, in two days, God has created the heavens, the earth, light and the sky.

Bible Lesson Activities

Use the following activities to reinforce the learning goals. If time is short, move on to the evaluation portion of the lesson plan.

Activity: Paper Plunge

“Today in our Bible Lesson, we learned that God created the sky to separate the water from below and above.  The sky is air.  Can air hold up water?  Well, we are going to do a little experiment to see if it can.”

  • Fill a bowl with water.
  • Scrunch or crumple up a piece of paper.
  • Push the paper into the bottom of the glass so that it cannot fall out.
  • Turn the glass upside down and plunge it straight down into the bowl of water

“What happens to the paper?  It stayed up inside of the glass, didn’t it?  That’s the power of air.  It held up this paper, just like it holds up the water in the sky.  How this works is the air inside the glass takes up space and pushes. The paper stays dry because the water can only get into the glass by squashing the air inside it. Air can be squashed, or compressed, a little, but then it pushes back and prevents the water from reaching the paper.  This is something you can go home and show your parents today.”

Activity: Bible Verse Memorization

“God called the huge space “sky.” There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two.”  Genesis 1:3 (New International Reader’s Version) Have the children do the following hand motions along with repeating the words after you, to help them learn the Bible Verse: “ God ”—hold hand up with fingers towards the sky…the hand is raised to the heavens and then downward in a sign of respect “ called ”—one hand taps a single time on the other hand to get the attention of someone “ the huge space ”—place fists together away from body and, making a circular shape, bring fists together close to body “ sky ”—the hand moves in an arc to indicate the sky above “ There was evening ”—hold one arm horizontally in front of body,   curve the other hand over that arm “ and there was morning ”—hold one arm horizontally across body, stretch the other arm straight out and then bring it towards body “ It was day two .”—hold up 2 fingers “ Genesis 1 ”—hold up 1 finger “ 3 ”—hold up 3 fingers Do this a few times with the children.  Make it fun for them to do the motions and say the words.  Involving them in active learning is essential for memorization.

Game: Beach Ball Reciting

  • Have the children stand in a large circle
  • You will pass the ball to the child standing next to you while saying the first word in the Bible Verse
  • That child will then say the next word in the Bible Verse while passing the ball to the child standing next to them
  • Keep going until the verse has been completed—Don’t forget the reference!!
  • Play a few times so that the children will have some good practice.

Lesson Evaluation:

Have the children stand up.  Have them do the following motions: “On the 1 st day of creation God created darkness and light” (cover eyes with hands and then release) “On the second day of creation God created a space between the waters.” (make waves with hands & arms & then wave up in the air) Have the children tell (and show) a neighbor what God created on the first and second days of creation. Have the children answer the following questions:

  • “What did God create on the second day of creation?” the sky to separate the water

These lessons are great. I use them every time. I also love all the activities. I would also be very grateful if you could also include a picture that I can show the children and discuss concerning the topic and also one that they can color.

Dear Ministry to children, firstable I want to thank you for your team and hard work to help us as Sunday School teachers with this amazing website, since a friend recommended to me, I’ve been using your lessons to reinforse our annual curriculum using some ideas, songs etc. I just want to mention a small detail for this lesson you used the following bible verse memorization :Activity: Bible Verse Memorization “God called the huge space “sky.” There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two.” Genesis 1:3 (New International Reader’s Version) but reviewing the lesson i want to mention the correct verse is Genesis 1:8. Thank you for your amazing work, God bless you all.

Thank you ministry to children for all your hard work and great lesson plan. They have helped both me and children I minister to understand Gods Word better.

How to copy a reindeer funny kid's assignments
