Business studies

Creative writing.

This is a **four year degree** taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.

**Business Management** The world of Business Management is fast-moving and dynamic: Business organisations are facing unprecedented change and complex challenges both within the UK and globally. This demands that students who enter the business sector understand the dynamics of the business environment and how organisations operate in increasingly uncertain situations. The Business Management degree at Liverpool Hope University examines small to medium-sized enterprises to global multi-national companies – public, private, not-for-profit with a focus on business principles, organisational dynamics and management processes.

Liverpool Hope Business School holds the prestigious AACSB accreditation and has an enviable reputation for developing students with sound theoretical principles, thorough understanding of contemporary business practices and informed by the latest research. The links we have with local and national businesses, plus links with professional bodies, ensure you are well prepared for the world of work.

This in-depth degree gives you the opportunity to understand how businesses operate and the ethical and social impact they have on communities. An experienced, student-focused team will develop your understanding of this business context and develop the critical business skills and transferable skills that future employers will demand.

**Creative Writing** Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope will give you the chance to experience the joys of crafting the written word. The degree focuses on developing you as a writer of poetry and prose (fiction and non-fiction), broadly within the field of literature (poems, short stories, novels, long-form essays). Some professional writing - reviews, blogs and articles for different kinds of media - is also studied. Our focus on creativity and employability means you will be able to produce engaging, innovative and marketable texts.

By studying Creative Writing, you will be empowered with an enhanced command of your craft, increased confidence in expressing your thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform your writing practice, and the technical skillset to deliver your work to various audiences. Your writing will be enhanced by studying under celebrated writers and academics, as well as developing a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers.

Liverpool Hope University offers an integrated curriculum. Please go to the course link provided for further information on the topics you will study as part of this degree.

What students say

We've crunched the numbers to see if overall student satisfaction here is high, medium or low compared to students studying this subject(s) at other universities.

How do students rate their degree experience?

The stats below relate to the general subject area/s at this university, not this specific course. We show this where there isn’t enough data about the course, or where this is the most detailed info available to us.

Teaching and learning

Assessment and feedback, resources and organisation, student voice, who studies this subject and how do they get on, most popular a-levels studied (and grade achieved), after graduation.

The stats in this section relate to the general subject area/s at this university – not this specific course. We show this where there isn't enough data about the course, or where this is the most detailed info available to us.

What are graduates doing after six months?

This is what graduates told us they were doing (and earning), shortly after completing their course. We've crunched the numbers to show you if these immediate prospects are high, medium or low, compared to those studying this subject/s at other universities.

Top job areas of graduates

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

The jobs market for this subject - which includes creative writing and scriptwriting courses - is not currently one of the strongest, so unemployment rates are currently looking quite high overall, with salaries on the lower side. But nevertheless, most graduates get jobs quickly. Graduates often go into careers as authors and writers and are also found in other roles where the ability to write well is prized, such as journalism, translation, teaching and advertising and in web content. Be aware that freelancing and self-employment is common is common in the arts, as are what is termed 'portfolio careers', having several part-time jobs or commissions at once - although graduates from this subject were a little more likely than many other creative arts graduates to be in conventional full time permanent contracts, so that might be worth bearing in mind.

What about your long term prospects?

Looking further ahead, below is a rough guide for what graduates went on to earn.

The graph shows median earnings of graduates who achieved a degree in this subject area one, three and five years after graduating from here.

Note: this data only looks at employees (and not those who are self-employed or also studying) and covers a broad sample of graduates and the various paths they've taken, which might not always be a direct result of their degree.

Course location and department:

Teaching excellence framework (tef):.

We've received this information from the Department for Education, via Ucas. This is how the university as a whole has been rated for its quality of teaching: gold silver or bronze. Note, not all universities have taken part in the TEF.

This information comes from the National Student Survey, an annual student survey of final-year students. You can use this to see how satisfied students studying this subject area at this university, are (not the individual course).

This is the percentage of final-year students at this university who were "definitely" or "mostly" satisfied with their course. We've analysed this figure against other universities so you can see whether this is high, medium or low.

This information is from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), for undergraduate students only.

You can use this to get an idea of who you might share a lecture with and how they progressed in this subject, here. It's also worth comparing typical A-level subjects and grades students achieved with the current course entry requirements; similarities or differences here could indicate how flexible (or not) a university might be.

Post-six month graduation stats:

This is from the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, based on responses from graduates who studied the same subject area here.

It offers a snapshot of what grads went on to do six months later, what they were earning on average, and whether they felt their degree helped them obtain a 'graduate role'. We calculate a mean rating to indicate if this is high, medium or low compared to other universities.

Graduate field commentary:

The Higher Education Careers Services Unit have provided some further context for all graduates in this subject area, including details that numbers alone might not show

The Longitudinal Educational Outcomes dataset combines HRMC earnings data with student records from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

While there are lots of factors at play when it comes to your future earnings, use this as a rough timeline of what graduates in this subject area were earning on average one, three and five years later. Can you see a steady increase in salary, or did grads need some experience under their belt before seeing a nice bump up in their pay packet?

The Uni Guide and The Student Room are both part of The Student Room Group.

strating vladivostock

plan to organise train locally for two people

need an invitation to get russian visa

do you know what is best way ?

I got my visa from the hotel I am staying at. I think the easiest way for you would be to try a travel agent who you may have to purchase the ticket and make any reservations for hotels through the same agent. I hope this helps.

hallo michel,

did u do your journey by train already? did u encounter any problems? would you recommend it? please let me know as i want to embark on it very soon!!

I had a blast in Vladivostok. The people I had met were very good to me and made sure I was out of harms way. I did not enjoy the food that much at the restaraunt's but at the nicer places, it was good. Average meal price for good food was about $10-$20 US. I met a nice girl there who introduced me to her family, friends and we ate at the parents house one day which was very good. I all so cooked the family a nice American meal which they were very impressed. Just be carefull who you trust. If you find a good croud or person you trust, your trip will be awesome! I follow the simple rules, those who ask you for money are not worth it. I give only to those I see deserving. Hope your trip goes well. I know I will have memories for the rest of my life and will visit Vladivostok in about 10 years to see how the city has changed.

did u travel form vladivostok to moscow? a russian friend is trying to discourage me from going from moscow to beijing by train saying that is very dangerous, lot sof drunk and agresssive people. please tell me how your experience was! thankuuuu!

I did not travel to Moscow, just stayed in Vladivostok but I had met a Scottish guy who traveled from Moscow to Vladivostok. He said it was an experience, very long and not all ways comfortable but was glad he did it. Food was very hit or miss. He had mentioned that you find your self with so much time and got bored unless the train stopped and you could walk around. He never said any thing about danger. Many people have done the trip so I do not think it is as dangerous as every one says. I read the book “Other Side of Russia” which was very good. The author made the trip and elaborates as to what to expect. I would advise to read the book for it really opens up your eyes as to East Russia.

A girl I met in Russia goes to China often, even by her self so I do not think it is as bad as ever one thinks. Just remember not to flash money around poverty. As for my self in Vladivostok, it was a blast. The Russian friends I met took good care of me. We drank many, walked around to view the city, went to museums. It was perfect weather so what ever we did, we made sure that we ended out side.

Few good places to go to in Vlad for dinner or breakfast.. Café Trufel, Chicago, Hunters Place, Café Studio. These are some of the places that are as close to Western as Vladivostok has to offer. I would start most days off at Café Studio for coffee and breakfast and then soak up as much of the Russian culture as I could. There are other Russian restaurants that are not expensive all over the city but I find the food not so good. If you are with a group, I think you will find that you will not have much to fear. I never worried much unless I was alone which was not often at all.

Café Trufel is more of an evening place that is nice, very wide variety on the menu and makes good drinks. If you do go there, there is a bartender by the name of Oleg who I made good friends with. You can tell him that Carlos sent you and that you would like to try the Absenth shot….. very good. Just mentioning my name to Oleg would make his day for we had a blast. I know you and your friends will have a good time!

laap, try not to let your friend discourage you. We took the train from Moscow to Vladivostok, and then to Beijing (part of an overland trip from London to Hanoi) and we found everyone to be quite polite and considerate. We traveled 2nd class sleeper.

If you are a woman travelling alone, the Lonely Planet Trans Siberian guide recommends travelling 3rd class. It's not as comfortable, but it's open. This way you don't have the possibility of getting stuck in a cabin with three drunken guys.

If interested, you can see details of our trip at http://www.surfacetravel.com , Phase II (selling and advertising nothing).

Likewise Laap, I think your friend is giving you poor advice. Last summer I took the tran from Moscow to Beijing with a stopover in Ulan Bataar. It felt and was very safe.

A great journey, I'd recommend it to anyone.
