The current concern is that it is rising day by day due to various resources of pollutants. And, one of the main pollutants are humans and man-made machines. It is right to say that pollution is damaging the mother earth severely and we, humans, should play our part to prevent it from happening.

Pollution sepsis is the presence of contaminants in the natural environment that causes harm and damage and therefore leads to adverse changes.

There are mainly three kinds of pollution - 1) Air Pollution, 2) Water Pollution, and 3) Soil Pollution.

Air Pollution

Air Pollution occurs due to the presence of harmful gases and substances in the air. It is due to vehicle emission, dust and dirt, poisonous gasses from the factories etc. To reduce air pollution, we should use carpooling or public transport rather than using our private mode of transportation whose harmful gas emission only adds to the problem, we should also actively avoid burning trash or other materials etc.

Water Pollution

Water Pollution happens when toxic substances get mixed in various water bodies such as lakes, oceans, rivers etc. Here toxic substances refer to the Chemical fertilizer, Industrial waste, Sewage and wastewater, Mining activities, Marine dumping etc.

Soil Pollution

Soil pollution depicts the contamination of soil due to the presence of toxic substances due to Excessive use of fertilisers and pesticides, deforestation, industrial waste etc . To maintain the soil’s fertility, the government must limit the usage of fertilizers and plant more trees.

There are a few other pollutants causing pollution apart from the aforementioned ones, such as Radioactive pollution. This is one of the rarer types of pollution. Pollution can take many forms, and it can occur naturally or as a result of human activities . Some common types of pollution include air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution . Pollution can have a variety of negative impacts on the environment, including harm to wildlife and natural ecosystems, as well as negative effects on human health. It is important to reduce pollution and protect the environment to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our planet.

Pollution is a key issue that has been affecting our earth. Although it is an issue that has been prevalent since ancient times, in the 21st century its harmful effect has been felt on a large scale.

Although the governments of different countries have taken several major steps to curb these effects, there is still a long way to go.

Several natural processes and cycles get disturbed due to this. Not only that, many flora and fauna today either have gone extinct or are endangered. Due to the rapid increase in the amount of pollution, animals are losing their habitat at a rapid speed.

Pollution has affected several major cities across the globe. A majority of these polluted cities lie in India. Some of the most polluted cities in the world are Delhi, Kanpur, Bamenda, Moscow, Heze, Chernobyl, Beijing among others.

a) Emissions from vehicles, such as cars, trucks, and buses b) Industrial activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels and the release of chemical byproducts c) Agricultural practices, such as the use of pesticides and fertilizers d) Household products, such as cleaning supplies and personal care items e) Construction and demolition activities f) Waste disposal and landfills g) Power plants

Water Pollution : Water pollution is the presence in water of harmful substances or organisms that can have negative impacts on human health, the environment, and aquatic life. Water pollution can occur in natural bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, and oceans, as well as in man-made water systems, such as reservoirs, aqueducts, and sewage treatment plants.There are many causes of water pollution. Some of the main causes include:

a. Agricultural runoff : Pesticides, fertilizers, and animal waste can run off of farmland and into nearby bodies of water, polluting the water. b. Industrial waste : Many industries release chemicals and other waste products into bodies of water, which can pollute the water. c. Sewage and sewage treatment plants : If sewage treatment plants are not properly maintained, sewage and other waste products can be released into bodies of water, polluting the water. d. Oil spills : Oil spills can occur as a result of human activities, such as the transportation of oil, or they can occur naturally. Oil spills can have serious negative impacts on the quality of water. e. Leaks and spills : Accidental leaks and spills of chemicals and other substances can pollute bodies of water. f. Litter: Litter, such as plastic bags and bottles, can end up in bodies of water, where it can harm wildlife and pollute the water. g. Land development : Land development and construction activities can lead to soil erosion, which can in turn cause water pollution.

Soil Pollution: Soil pollution, also known as soil contamination, is the presence in soil of harmful substances or contaminants that can have negative impacts on human health, the environment, and agricultural productivity. Soil pollution can have a variety of causes , including agricultural practices, industrial activities, waste disposal, and the use of certain chemicals and products in the home.

Soil pollution can have serious consequences , including harm to plants and wildlife, contamination of the food supply, and negative impacts on human health. It is important to reduce soil pollution and protect our soil to ensure the long-term health of our planet.

Noise Pollution : Noise pollution, also known as sound pollution, is the presence of excessive or unwanted noise in the environment. Noise pollution can have negative impacts on human health and well-being, as well as on the health of wildlife. Noise pollution can be caused by a variety of sources, including traffic, industrial activities, construction, transportation, music and entertainment, and neighbors. Some common effects of noise pollution include hearing loss, stress, sleep disturbance, and interference with communication. It is important to reduce noise pollution and protect against excessive or unwanted noise to ensure the long-term health and well-being of people and wildlife.

Often, the day after the festival of Diwali it is reported in the media how the bursting of crackers caused an increase in noise pollution in major cities of India.

Although these are the four major categories of pollution lifestyle changes have caused several other types as well such as Radioactive Pollution , Light Pollution among others.

If a place ends up getting light in excess or in an unwanted amount, then it contributes to light pollution. Nowadays, several urban areas are facing unwanted glares in excess amounts.

This is due to the fact that most Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, etc. have an active nightlife.

We are living in the nuclear era. Since a lot of countries are developing their own nuclear devices, it has lead to an increase in the presence of radioactive substances in the atmosphere of the Earth.

This is known as radioactive pollution . Handling and mining of radioactive substances, testing, minor accidents occurring in radioactive power plants are other major causes contributing to radioactive pollution.

Global Warming is another name for climate change. The blanket of pollution that traps the heat around our planet is the main reason why global warming is increasing nowadays. As humans burn fossil fuels, vehicles emit harmful gases, jungles burn at alarming rates – all these factors are the main reasons.

Once it enters the earth’s atmosphere, eventually spreading across the globe. As a result, heat gets trapped around the earth for the next 50 or 100 years after it starts emitting again.

The worst part is harmful gases such as Carbon Dioxide have increased at an alarming rate. Due to this, the upcoming generation will feel the effects of global warming for hundreds of years.

The authorities at the national and international levels have taken several steps to curb the pollution issue. Some of these are as follows:

National Green Tribuna l: The Indian government had set up NGT in order to curb the issues related to the environment in India. Since 2010, it has imposed heavy penalties on several industries when they have failed to comply with NGT’s order. It also helped to revive several polluted lakes. It also ordered the closure of several coal-based industries in Gujarat that caused air pollution.
Alternative Sources of Energy : Since the last few years, the Indian government has been encouraging people to switch towards alternative sources of energy. It is compulsory for the residents of Tamilnadu state to have solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems on their rooftops. Other sources of alternative energy are biofuels, Wind Energy, Hydroelectric energy, etc.
BS-VI Fuel: Recently, the Government of India had announced that from April 1, 2020, onwards, the country will switch towards using BS-VI (Bharat Stage VI) Fuel. Once this rule comes into existence, the vehicular emission of sulphur would come down by more than 50%. It would bring down the emission of Nitrogen Oxide from diesel cars by 70% and by 25% in petrol cars. Similarly, the particulate matter emissions will come down by 80% in cars.
Air Purifiers: People are now using air purifiers especially the indoor ones, to curb air pollution. Air Purifiers clear the particulate matter present in the air, remove harmful bacteria, and improve air quality to a great extent.

Under its banner, the UNO in 1972 had initiated United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in order to address the issue of pollution. It has issued several issues such as climate change, ecosystem management, environmental governance, resource efficiency, etc. It has lead to several successful treaties such as the Montreal Protocol (1987) to limit the emission of gases that were thinning the protective ozone layer, Minamata Convention (2012) to limit the use of toxic mercury, etc. UNEP sponsored ‘Solar Loan Programme’ where lakhs of people from different countries were provided with solar power panels.

Pollution Methods to reduce

Although the authorities of different cities are working hard to curb the pollution issue, however, it is the duty of citizens and common people also to contribute to this process. Few of the important ways to curb all kinds of pollution are:

Stop Bursting Firecrackers : say no to firecrackers when you celebrate festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali or any other occasion of celebration. It causes noise, soil as well as light pollution. Also, it has an adverse effect on our health.
Limit the Use of vehicles : Vehicles are a major cause of pollution. Minimise the use of vehicles. If possible, try to substitute them with electric vehicles for personal use. Use public transportation or carpool can help to reduce air pollution caused by vehicle emissions.
Keep the Surrounding Clean : As a responsible citizen, it should be our duty to keep the area around our home clean. We should dump the waste instead of throwing it here and there. Properly disposing of waste , such as by using designated trash and recycling bins, can help to prevent pollution.
Recycle and Reuse : Several non-biodegradable products such as daily use items made of plastic end up harming our environment. We need to either dispose of it properly or donate it for recycling. Nowadays, the government is running a lot of schemes to recycle plastic where the citizens can not only donate their plastic waste but also exchange it in return for other items.
Plant Trees : Cutting of trees due to several reasons such as the widening of roads, building houses, etc. has led to an increase in different kinds of pollution. Plants absorb harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, etc. present in the atmosphere. Since they release oxygen during the photosynthesis process, therefore, it is important for us to plant and take care of as many trees as we can.
Use environmentally-friendly products : Choosing products that are made from natural, biodegradable materials and that are not harmful to the environment can help to reduce pollution.
Support clean energy: Supporting the use of clean energy sources, such as solar and wind power, can help to reduce air pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
Support laws and regulations to reduce pollution : Supporting laws and regulations that aim to reduce pollution can help to protect the environment and human health.
Educate others : Sharing information about the causes and impacts of pollution and how to reduce it can help to raise awareness and encourage others to take action to reduce pollution.

The day is not too far when people will go out with gas chambers in order to breathe properly in the pollution-ridden wasteland. The scenarios showcased in sci-fi movies with fast flying cars and high-rise apartments standing tall on the grounds of our carbon footprints will come true if we don’t pay any heed to the grave concern that there is: Pollution.

In the year 2018, people have complained about health issues like difficulty in breathing, burning sensation in the eye, headache etc and it is due to the unprecedented rise in air pollution. The situation is only worsening and people in the big cities are facing a whole lot with every passing day.

It doesn’t really matter if you are residing in urban colonies or rural area pollution has taken a hold of your life and is slowly deteriorating your health.

People in India need to understand that pollution has become our enemy and it is about time we fix our wrongdoings and make a better place for generations to come.

After years of ongoing research, scientists claim that we are endangering our lives every day and nearing apocalypse with our ill-treatment of the environment. Throwing garbage in the streets is one example which is a common doing. Wasting water or over-consumption of energy is another case which can be easily controlled. Yet, we continue doing it in spite of the clear indication that it is not helping us in the first place.

These petty examples mentioned above are far from the bigger problems we have created for ourselves. With deforestation, industrial pollution, transportation emission we are slowly leaning towards a complete disaster.

Human nature is strange. In spite of knowing the adverse effect of pollution, we all keep ignoring the fact that pollution is harming our health tenfolds. Cancer, infertility, blindness, defect in the time of birth, premature birth or death can all be caused due to environmental pollution. We are exposing ourselves to a heightened environmental crisis by succumbing to a slow, gradual fall into a metaphorical black hole.

Pollution is one of the root causes of climate change but us ill-equipped human beings fail to understand that our behavior towards the environment is changing the course of nature with every passing second.

Environmentalists have declared that by the year 2050, a lot of living species will already be extinct and the rest will probably lead in the same direction. If this horrifying truth is not taken into consideration seriously, the ecosystem is heading towards unfathomable chaos that will be too hard to stop.

Pollution the internal enemy

First, let’s get this straight. There are no safe levels of air pollution. Experts speak in one voice when they say this, whether it is the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Institutes of Health, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine or others. Episodic high pollution levels like what happens in north India during peak stubble burning or Diwali may dramatically increase visits to hospital emergency rooms, but even lower pollution levels also cause disease, disability and death.

Nearly 1.7 million people die from air pollution each year — which is more than three times the deaths Covid-19 caused in one year, a disease the government took seriously in its public messaging, something it has never done with equal intensity for pollution.

Second, and equally important, air pollution is not a seasonal problem, it is an invisible, year-round problem in all of India, that usually becomes most visible in the winter. On average, the country’s pollution load is usually 10 times higher than the WHO guidelines’ safe threshold all year through. It is just insanely — almost 50 times — higher in the winter months in North India, which leads to international headlines and increased attention. However, that doesn’t alter the fact that year-round pollution levels are also high; but, sadly, they have been normalized by over a billion people torn between helplessness, resignation and apathy.

Third, over 90 percent of India breathes dirty air, not just northern India or Delhi, though these regions are the most polluted. The Indo-Gangetic plain is home to 40 percent of India’s population, which means more than 500 million people are sickening by just breathing. But Mumbai has shown us in three consecutive years that it can beat Delhi’s AQI levels, this year even a month before Diwali.

As for southern India, although its geography (high altitude) and weather (rain and wind) ensure most of its particulate matter is washed or blown away, Bengaluru still had the dubious distinction of topping the State of Global Air’s list of polluted cities for nitrous oxides in September 2023, followed by neighbouring Hyderabad. NOx exacerbates respiratory diseases, and a recent AIIMS study found it can lead to an increase in the number of emergency room visits by 53 percent.

Another coastal city, Chennai, in the south has had its moments, with AQI levels crossing Delhi’s. And if you thought that only urban India was suffering, not only does research show that pollution is increasing faster in southern and eastern India, it is also increasing faster in rural areas where indoor air pollution (caused by burning biomass for cooking and heating) already contributes nearly 30 percent of outdoor air pollution.

Air pollution doesn’t just harm the human respiratory system, it damages every organ in the human body, especially the heart. Peer-reviewed journal Neurology’s September issue published research that showed a strong and significant correlation between air pollutants and death from strokes.

In fact, Bengaluru has the youngest population of heart patients. The city’s Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research treated 2,200 heart attacks in patients under 40 in two years, the youngest being 16 years old. These were mostly software professionals and auto/cab drivers who spent longer than an hour in traffic — but is 16 any age to have a heart attack triggered by just the involuntary act of breathing?

None of this harm is short-term, it is long-term and irreversible damage, which means that you can arrest the harm once you start breathing clean air (like when you stop smoking cigarettes) but you can’t reverse it. Those microscopic particles of PM2.5 will remain in your body until you die.

The University of Chicago has created an Air Quality of Life Index tool that calculates how much longer people of a certain region would live on average if that region met WHO guideline limits. A Delhi resident would live nearly 12 years longer, a North India resident nearly seven years. And let me not even get started about how air pollution is a social inequity, because this column just doesn’t have enough words for that. But when you are working from home with your air purifier on during a high pollution day, just spare a thought for the waste-picker or construction worker who won’t get her daily wage if she decides to protect her health and stay home, or the traffic policeman who stands among vehicular fumes at intersections, directing traffic, or the autorickshaw driver who won’t earn if he doesn’t drive that day. These are also people who have less access to healthcare and are often also undernourished.

India’s air has been getting filthier over the years. Politicians bring up economic growth as the bogey when urged to act strongly and decisively on pollution. But there is a difference between growth and development — with the latter including a better quality of life through focus on basic needs for all, healthcare, education and well-being. That is the kind of sustainable growth I’d like to see in my country, a place I chose to return to, despite other international options.

Solutions aren’t rocket science and instead of wasting precious tax money on unscientific, ineffectual and performative red herrings such as anti-smog towers (the Delhi government recently spent ` 44 crore on setting up two large outdoor air filters, which it admitted in Parliament just months later were useless), the government would do well to focus on a proactive bouquet of medium- and long-term solutions that address all the top sources of pollution.

There is only one way to reduce pollution: reduce emissions at source. Nothing else works. Air pollution is nothing but what we burn. India is working on its liquid fuels policy and has frogleaped to BS-6 fuels but it burns two billion tonnes of solid material. Of this 1.1 billion tonnes are coal. Another 600 million tonnes are crop residue burnt by farmers — and biomass for cooking. There is simply no cogent action on solid fuel. No country has been able to address pollution without addressing the issue of pollution from solid fuels. As for useless burning like crackers, frankly, that shouldn’t even cross our minds.

Covid came from outside, but air pollution is an internal enemy. Both need a war room set-up to fight back. But, unlike Covid, where people could see a direct link between the virus and the disease it caused, air pollution is an invisible enemy. Air pollution in India kills nearly 1.7 million each year. Covid killed less than one-third of that number in one year.

For the Covid pandemic, at least the world got together and discovered a vaccine that limited it. For the hidden pandemic of air pollution, we need a social vaccine. ν

The first line is idiotic and meaningless. The issue is not "safety" but "risk", and the WHO experts manufacture risks of air pollution (ambient and households). It is also inane to assert "even lower pollution levels also cause disease, disability and death." All one can do - as public health academics do - is *attribute* death and disability to discrete diseases and then apportion blame across different "risk factors", air pollution being one (and the quantitqtive apportionment subject to dubious data, untenable assumptions, and propaganda tactics of the Gates Foundation and its lackeys.) Introduction

Noise as one of the greatest hazards of this world, noise pollution in law, application of methods in real life, the truax model, works cited.

Little sound and noise we all require to live in the society but when this noise and sound becomes unbearable and very loud, it turns to noise and sound pollution. The word noise originated from the Latin term “nausea”, meaning uncalled for. “Noise is defined as unwanted sound; sound, which pleases the listeners is music and that which causes pain and annoyance is noise”. (Jaiswal & Jaiswal, 327) However, “Sound is a kind of energy that allows the particles in the air, a liquid or a solid to vibrate”. (Occupational Health Clinic for Ontario Workers, Online)

For all living inside the arena of the technological world and amidst the cities and towns, noise has become a part of life except for all those fortunate who are still living in the laps of nature away from any busy roads, screaming industries and factories, sounds of loud music, etc. Twenty hours a day we have to bear these sounds and we have increased our toleration level and endurance towards them, but amidst this too when sound becomes too loud, it becomes unbearable causing health hazards.

In the early years of the 1890s, journals of America and London raised the people’s consciousness towards noise as one of the greatest hazards of this world, but people had already got aware to the noise problem during the time when “Epic of Gilgamesh” was written and read in the 3 rd millennium BC. In the Sumerian account of the flood, it was written, “in those days the world teemed, the people multiplied, the world bellowed like a wild bull, and the great God was aroused by the clamour. Enlil heard the clamour and he said to the Gods in council, “the uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible by reason of the babel. So Gods in the heart were moved to let loose the diluge”.

Now the noise problem is no doubt has become a matter of grave concern for politicians, environmentalists, and basis for legal actions and a topic for health-conscious people. But rarely it is considered as a human problem that is a part of the system acoustic communications. Sound creates a relationship between the individual and environment whereas noise becomes a mediator but creates a negative impact on such mediations and makes the contact between the individual and communicator impossible; it also creates hindrance on the part of effective communications. But what constitutes noise and when sound becomes noise, the concept of this since Helmholtz has been, “the physical acoustic definition of noise has been that it is a non-periodic vibration, by comparison to musical sound, which has a periodicity and therefore a pitch”. (Traux, 95).

However, music can also become a source of irritation and become a noise for someone who is unaccustomed and annoyed by it. As per law, the quantitative noise is defined functionally as regards to the sound’s intensity level to determine the extent to which it could be acceptable or not. The problem with the legislation law is finding out the right level above which the sound becomes unacceptable enough to be considered as noise. (Traux, 95) The noise pollution should be considered by the duration of the sound, the frequency of noise, and whether there is any control to the sound or not. The British Columbia Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) has fixed the limitations of sound to be 85 decibels in the workplace and above it is harmful. If sound reaches 120 decibels, it becomes very painful and at 140, it is very harmful. However, at home the noise level above 50 decibels is quite normal and above 55 is serious. While in hospitals and schools, the safe level of sound is 35 decibels. (Ban the Canons, Online) The noise if reaches above the safe level cause tremendous impact on health like increase in stress, high blood pressure, loss of sleep, inability to concentrate and learn and loss of productivity. Noise pollution can impair hearing in children; reduce their attention level and cause negative impact on them.

We are staying in British Columbia and near the villages where farmer’s blast their cannons from dawn to dusk and they are very loud. They have the devices like leaf blowers that reciprocate the novel that reaches to the level of 75 or 80 decibels. The noise of the boom cars can reach till 100 decibels, but propane cannons can go to the range of 130 decibels. Though these canons are regulated by the British Columbia, they begin at 6: 30 am and blast until 8: 00 pm. And the areas, which are not regulated, farmers blast their cannons from dawn to dusk. The blast of propane cannons is like a shotgun, ranging between 120-130 decibels. From our home we often have to hear two blasts every single minute and many have to hear five to six blasts every single minute. These blasts occur during the berry season, which stretches from the month of late June to the whole month of October. It is claimed that these propane cannons are neither very necessary nor are very effective and the farmers are breaching the Langley Township Noise Bylaw. (Ban the Canons, Online).

I did some thought-provoking methods to deal with the situation. I along with my neighbors prepared some brochures and campaigning plans and went personally to the farmer’s houses to explain them how much they are causing noise pollution and they should substitute these propane canons with some other method that do not make too much noise and are economically feasible too. Secondly we went to visit the local MLA to personally administer the farmer’s use of propane cannons and govern the farmers towards reducing the noise immersing from the use of cannons. Still the noisemakers are ignoring and bent on using the cannons above the normal decibels. Then I decided to contact the Minister of Agriculture, and the Farm Industry Review Board (FIRB). They have responsibility to pursue the right to Farm Legislation, which has the clause to allow the farmers to the use of the propane cannons. But, if they want they are entitled to modify or make changes in this legislation to check the farmers to control their use of cannons. Many of these issues like that of noise pollution comes under the Vancouver Charter whereby the powers of Council would be exercised by bylaw. The bylaws governing city of Vancouver are numbered beginning with by-law No 1 that is the law, which was enacted first and then continued subsequently. The first by law was passed on 18 th May 1886 and then over many years around 10,000 laws have been passed. The Noise Bylaw of city controls and legalizes construction works, vehicles and noise immersing from households. (SoundSmart, Online) People also formed Urban Noise Task Force. This is a group of citizens, who with the help of the city staff and councilors recommends and makes suggestions to the city for making improvements in Vancouver’s soundscape. There is also on the anvil the Vancouver Transportation Plan. It had proposed that reviews should be conducted on the most important arterial roads in the city for their performance and the way they are dealt with and are being used in relationship to the neighbors. The city is also planning for the quite payment towards most important transportation corridors. The Urban Noise task force has been created to check on the increasing noise in the city and the extent to which it is affecting the daily lives of Vancouver.

In Canada, there are very few laws at the national, provincial, or state levels to govern the noise pollution. As a result, most of the Canadian and EU countries regulations of the law are governed at the municipal level. There are different noise laws and ordinances in municipalities among different areas. The laws constitute certain ordinances that may prohibit persons against creating noise or may place certain guidelines on the level of noise allowed for certain time duration. There is slight difference between the laws in the cities and villages as regards the control of noise pollution is concerned. In cities, there are several laws and governing bodies to check the lawbreakers while in the villages of British Columbia, either MLA can put a control on the noise pollution or there is right to Farm Legislation whose discretion is in the hands of the Minister of Agriculture, and the Farm Industry Review Board (FIRB). Particularly for British Columbia, there is one law, which is the Langley Township Noise Bylaw. For e.g. “the law states that the number of discharges from any noise scare device is limited to a maximum of one discharge in any three minute period of time”. (Noise Control by law 1988 No 2573, Online) The difficulty in the provision of the law is inability on the part of the province to control the direct use of the devices.

Sounds, which exceed the level more than determined, become noise. What makes one sound a noise is determined by the intensity of the volume of sound. It depends on the listening capacity of the people also. For many people what constitutes sound could be noise and for many what is noise is sound and for many, sound is a pleasure. When we look at the day-to-day to life, it is very simple to determine what constitutes sound and what constitutes noise. For e.g. when we listen to the music, it would sound very appealing to the ears and give soothing effect and if this music is interrupted by the other sounds like unnecessary playing of drums, or shouts of children or sounds of traffic on the roads, it would become a noise, which could be very irritating. But it is very difficulty to consider the same in case we have to determine sound and noise in theoretical terms and on the basis of its established set norms and prescribed limits. The legislation of each area or place has considered the proximate level of sound and if the sound reaches above that level, it becomes noise requiring strict consideration. The problems come in legislation in determining the nature of sound and in determining if really this sound is noise. If someone is typing something on a typewriter, it could be very annoying to someone even if its sound is low. It is also not necessary that unpitched sound is noise; it could be a sound from music as well.

The Truax model understands the relationship between the listener and the sound. This model describes the relationship between the listener and its environment, which is interfered with the help of the sound and triangular relationship, is therefore created. Any change occurring due to any one of the components either due to habituation, or any other disturbances has an effect on the soundscape and that what happened in this process.

The above example I cited is related to the environmental acoustics. “This acoustics studies show different frequencies behave during propagation. When the sound waves comes into contact with objects, its energy is transmitted through the object, absorbed within it, or reflected from it with varying degrees of efficiency depending on efficiency.” (Traux, 5) This happens when the cannons blow. They reciprocate the sound waves above the level prescribed. These sounds create a disturbance between the relation between the listener and its environment.

Every now and then we are facing the noise pollution and as it is difficult to analyze, more difficult is to follow the legislation. In Canada, the noise pollution is controlled at the Federal, provincial and municipal levels and government has adopted different roles and responsibilities as regards to the noise pollution issues. For e.g. Federal government has responsibility for ensuring noise pollution does not occur in case of consumer products, equipment, and vehicles. But, these regulations do not follow when these products are sold and after they are used and depleted. The sold and depleted products often exceed the prescribed sound levels, for which federal government is not responsible. The federal government has also mentioned about the guidelines for control of pollution through provincial transportation systems including aircraft, trains and waterways. As a part of its provincial role, government fixes rules in the area of land use planning. They help the municipalities in pursuing the noise control by-laws to decrease the sources of noise pollution. They also have provisions to check the noise levels immersing from consumer products, equipments and vehicles. And in municipal level role too, municipalities see to it that noise control bylaws are followed adequately in the provincial areas. (CBC News, Online).

The complexities of the noise immersing from the different corners of our lives create hurdles in the path of the government at different levels for effective application of the legislation.
