One-day cricket is a limited-overs game in which each team has a set number of overs, usually 50, to score as many runs as possible. Twenty20 is the shortest format of the game, and each team has 20 overs to score runs.

Short Paragraph on My Hobby (Cricket)

essay on my hobby cricket for class 10

Here is your short paragraph on My Hobby (Cricket) !

Cricket is my favorite hobby and a famous sport too. It makes me feel healthy, fit and a stronger person. It makes me feel confident and proud of what I am. I started playing cricket when I was a kid of 7 years old.

My cricket passion started when I was a small kid and I started playing this game with my elder brother in the back side of my home.

At that time also I was a good player in comparison to the children of my age. May be because I love to play cricket and I play it too seriously focusing on each and every ball.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Like many other people in India I was also aspired to play for my country. My days were never complete without cricket I used to play with my friends after my school hours were over. I use my left hand to hold the bat & bowl the ball which many people found strange but I was comfortable playing. Later with time I learnt to play cricket well and started participating in my school teams. I was appreciated by the match viewers as I used to be the highest score holder of the match. I was identified as the best bowler of the Lawrence School (my school) at the age of 14 which was a great achievement for me and my parents in the year 2000.

My favorite cricket player is SachinTendulkar. During my farewell I was also honored with a certificate to appraise my contribution to my school cricket team. My cricket skills helped me to flatter Susain (my first girlfriend) when I was 20 years old. Later when I was 22 years old I became a part of Vishvya Bhartiya Vidya Sansthan & represented my teams in several tournaments.

But unfortunately we didn’t achieved much. I was disheartened and then Susain too left me because she dint find me her hero anymore. She thought I am a big looser. Later I took training from Sir Josheph. He taught me so many minute things and trained me to play perfectly. Today I am a member of Nitya Nanayang Polytechnic team. I am proud to be a part of this team.

Our team is gradually growing day by day. We are playing many cricket matches at national level. My aim is to play internationally.

Here is everything regarding the Cricket Essay for Students in English via Vedantu.

Cricket is a very popular game and is played at both national and international levels. This game originated in England. Cricket was introduced to the Indians by the British in the early 1700s. This game rules in everyone’s heart in India and so it can be called the “king of the games”. Millions of fans watch this game, and there is an air of excitement everywhere. It is enjoyed by the old and young. Over the years, this game has gathered a huge fan-base, who connects emotionally with it in our country.

History of Cricket

The game of cricket goes long back to British times. When it was introduced in India, very few people played this game. The Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh brought this game into limelight. He was a great patron of sports. He played cricket and he had his own team. Cricket was his second love after his kingdom. He was the man behind the golden history of cricket due to his passion for the game. His team Patiala XI was the best team during that time and he was the captain of the Indian team. He himself sponsored his teams for the tours to England.

How is Cricket Played?

Cricket is a game played by two teams of eleven players each on a pitch with two sets of three stumps, which are called wickets. The bowler bowls the ball down the pitch to the batsman of the opposing team, who must defend the wickets in front of which he stands. The target of the game is to score as many runs as possible.

Runs are scored by individual players by running on the playing strip (called pitch) between the wickets, or by hitting a ball that flies outside the boundary of the playground or which falls inside the boundary but bounces or rolls outside. When the balls go directly outside the boundary, the batsman scores six runs, and when the ball falls within the boundary but rolls outside then the batsman scores four runs. The opponent team will bowl and field and their objective is to take the wickets for each of the batsmen playing on the pitch.

A batsman can be dismissed in one of several ways: by the bowler hitting the wicket with the ball, which is called, bowled; by a fielder catching the ball hit by the batsman before it touches the ground and it is called caught; by the wicket-keeper or another fielder breaking the stumps while the batsman attempts a run and is therefore out of his ground. This is called stumped or run out. A batsman can also be dismissed if the batsman breaks the wicket with his own bat or body and this is called a hit wicket; by a part of the batsman’s body being hit by a ball that would otherwise have hit the wicket is called leg before the wicket or “lbw”.

A match consists of one or two innings, and each inning ends when the tenth batsman of the batting team is out, when a certain number of overs (an over: a series of six balls bowled) have been played or when the captain of the batting team declares ending the innings voluntarily.

Forms of Cricket

There are three forms of cricket: Test matches, one-day internationals, and T20 internationals.

Test matches are played for five days. To play this game, the players have to excel mentally and physically. This game is played in white tees and trousers. In this game, the players have to play for ninety overs each day.

In one-day internationals, the players play an inning of fifty overs. This kind of cricket is played only for a day. It was introduced in the 1980s.

T20 is the latest format of this game. In a T20 match, they play an inning of only twenty overs. This game is pretty interesting and engaging.

Achievements by the Indian Team

India won its first world cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. It was a big win in the history of cricket. Next, they won the world cup in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. India also won the T20 ICC World trophy and ICC Champions trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Besides these prestigious trophies, India has acclaimed many other victories in world cricket.

Indian Cricket Team

Cricket is played by both men and women. The captain of the women’s national cricket team is Harmanpreet Kaur. Women’s national cricket team made its first debut in 1976. Mithali Raj was the captain during the debut.

Virat Kohli is the captain of the Indian cricket team (men's). We have some great players from the past who have established themselves internationally and taken India to a very high pedestal in the world of cricket and brought pride to the country. Some of them are Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, and many more.

My Hobby Essay in English Paragraphs

My Hobby Essay in English is as follows:

Our lives depend heavily on our hobbies. When we have spare time, they keep our minds busy and bring us joy. Hobbies help us forget our troubles by providing an escape from the actual world. Additionally, they add interest and pleasure to our lives. If we think about it, all of our interests are highly beneficial to us. They instruct us on a wide range of topics. They also contribute to knowledge growth.

We frequently have time to ourselves in the hectic and competitive world of today. Our schedule becomes incredibly boring and repetitive over time. To keep our ideas lively and fresh, we must indulge in something in between. What could be better for this than a hobby? The fact that having a hobby significantly reduces stress is one of its main advantages. It truly makes you happy to do it, and it fills your soul.

In other words, if you don’t have a hobby, your life just becomes a boring cycle with no thrill or passion. You have a fantastic opportunity to unwind and forget about your troubles thanks to your hobbies. They provide you the chance to discover your potential and learn more about who you are.

In addition, hobbies might generate additional revenue. For instance, if you enjoy painting, you can make some additional cash by selling your artwork. Similarly, if you have a gift for dancing, you could offer individuals dance lessons over your vacation. In this manner, your pastime will help you both spiritually and financially.

I have a lot of interests, but if I had to choose just one, I would say gardening. Since I was a very small child, I have enjoyed skating. My parents thought I was a skater from birth because of the way my feet responded to the slippery floor, and could even balance myself without falling. Both joyful and affordable, skating is a great activity.

I’ve always loved skating and listening to music. I had no idea, though, how much pure delight they provide to others. We get a lot of workout while we skate. It teaches us how to move our bodies in time without losing balance on uneven grounds. Exercise like this is incredibly fun and enjoyable.

Skating has also taught me how to push my boundaries and maintain strength. I have sustained a lot of scratches and bruises while skating, but that hasn’t stopped me from continuing. In fact, it encourages me more than ever to perform to the best of my ability.

I’ve signed up for skating lessons because I want to turn my hobby into a profession. I believe that we should all pursue our passions. Everyone is chasing for money, and in the process, they are sacrificing their preferences and likes. I opted not to participate in this race after taking what I’ve learnt from it. I want to go down a different path and face obstacles that most people wouldn’t dare to.

Simply said, I feel alive and well when I’m skating. I only have one thing I eagerly anticipate: it. In this way, I intend to realize my dream of becoming a professional skater and pave the path for those who want to turn their hobbies and passion into careers.

My favourite wild animal is the Lion. Lion cubs are tiny and look similar to cats. I love to watch shows and videos about lions, and I wish I can see them in the jungles too. Recently, at school, my teacher told us where we can find lions. It is in Gir forest, Gujarat. As I watch these animal shows, I have become compassionate and empathetic towards other pet animals like dogs and cats too. I want a dog as my pet in our house.

A hobby reveals a lot about the interests of an individual. It explains what people like to do when they are free, what’s the thing that makes them feel relaxed and lively, or what simply gives them a feeling of completeness.

“Hobby is an activity that you do for please when you are not working.” (Oxford Dictionary)

A hobby is a recreation which brings about personal pleasure and amusement. it is some interesting pursuit which we adopt as an occupation for our free time. It enables a man to find some soothing work which can relax his mind and soul.

In the present era, a man has to work hard for his survival. He has to put his maximum efforts to face the challenges of life. This physical and mental work not only tires him but also damages his talent. He certainly needs some pleasant activity to lessen this burden of boredom. He should have some free time and favourite activity to ease his troubled feelings. This sort of mental entertainment is called a hobby.

“A hobby a day keeps the doldrums away.” (Phyllis McGinley)

Different people surely have different hobbies. in other words, there are as many hobbies as men. Book reading, gardening, stamp collecting, painting, Swimming, fishing, cooking, photography and many more are adopted by various people in the world. Everyone adopts a hobby according to his own temperament, taste and interest.

Lord Salisbury’s hobby was to work in the chemical laboratory. The painting was the hobby of Sir Winston Churchill whereas Bernard Shaw was fond of growing vegetables in his garden. So various people take up different hobbies only because they have some special interest in that particular thing. Otherwise, the hobby does not provide any material benefit.

“A hobby is hard work you wouldn’t do for a living.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Though there are different things I like to do during my free time but the thing that attracts all of my attention is gardening. This hobby of mine is an ultimate source of pleasure and Joy for me.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever, Its loveliness increases; it will never, Pass into nothingness.” (John Keats)

l have made a beautiful garden in the lawn attached to my home. I have grown lush green grass there, vegetables, flowers and trees of different kinds. The fresh look of this garden provides me with fantastic pleasure and peace of mind. The sweet fragrance of these flowers gives me real delight. The wholesome of my garden provides freshness, health and happiness. It is surely a great source of aesthetic pleasure.

“I will be the gladdest thing under the sun! I will touch a hundred flowers and not pick one.” (Edna St. Vincent)

In my garden, there are plenty of flowers lending a beautiful fragrance to the atmosphere. Vegetables have also been sown and reaped from time to time. Anyone who visits my garden cannot help praising it. Whenever l get free time I prefer to stay in my garden, which gives me not only pleasure but also wisdom and knowledge. The time passed in my garden really becomes sensational and rational.

“I sit in my garden, gazing upon a beauty that cannot gaze upon itself. And I find sufficient purpose for my day.” (Robert Brault)

This hobby of mine also makes me thoughtful. These plants and flowers seem to have some relevance to human life. These flowers tell us that beauty is short-lived and so is human life. I have come to know that it costs us nothing to beautify the place where we live. If we spend little time to grow plums and flowers. we can make our towns and cities beautiful to wipe away ugliness and pollution from our country.

A sensitive plant in I garden grew, And the young winds fed it with silver dew, And it opened its fan-like leaves to the light, and closed them beneath the kisses of night.” (Percy Bysshe Shelley)

2. Essay on My Favourite Hobby with Quotes for Class 12 – 400+ Words

Today, man lives in a world where struggle and effort is necessary for survival. He has to toil from dawn to dusk. Physical and mental exertions leave him utterly exhausted and enervated after the whole day’s work. The daily routine life rusts his talent and efficiency.

The hobby is an activity that a person does for pleasure in his leisure time. Time hangs heavy on our shoulders when we do not have anything special to do in our spare time. So, different people have different pastimes. The activity that I do regularly for enjoyment in my spare time is gardening and I love my hobby. Life without a hobby is like food without salt.

I love and like beauty in all forms and flowers symbolize both love and beauty. I have grown different kinds of flowers. These flowers give a fragrant welcome to my guests who have a feeling of freshness as they enter my house. These flowers keep me close to nature. They keep me from the impurities of heart and soul. They enrich my inner self. My hobby saves me from the tedium of life and serves as an oasis in the vast wilderness of life.

“It’s the safety valve of middle life and the solace of age. (Mary Roberts)

These flowers that I have grown in my lawn are a source of catharsis for me as well. Whenever I am cast down, I come to my “living” friends and share my sorrows and sufferings. They listen to me quietly and keep my secrets to themselves. This is a fact that these living organisms listen and respond but we cannot match their frequency. So, in their company, I do not feel the communication gap.

My hobby is a healthy activity. In this polluted age of ours, we are suffocating to death. My hobby, gardening, gives me a feeling of pleasure and freshness. I spend a few rupees on the seeds and saplings and give them rich soil and plenty of water. I do my best to keep them protected, and my whole house becomes fragrant with their sweet smell. I look after my flowers as parents take care of their young kids.

Plants and flowers also have some relevance to human life. These flowers tell us that beauty is short-lived, and so is human life. I have come to know that it costs us nothing to beautify the place where we live. If we spend a little money and time to grow plants and flowers, we can make our town and cities beautiful. We can wipe away the ugliness and pollution from our country.

Last but not least, it is worth pointing out that we should never ride a hobby too hard. We should not make a toil of pleasure. In other words, we should not indulge in a hobby to such an extent as to convert it into a dull and cheerless task. A hobby should be regarded just as a mental recreation.

“Beauty is truth, truth beauty___ that’s all.

Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” (John Keats)

Essay No. 06

Hobby means a useful pursuit that delights a man or woman when he or she enjoys leisure. Hobbies are usually followed when one is not occupied in the routine work of any sort and enjoys leisure.

People pass their time in useful pursuits. Gardening attracts some of them; photography attracts others; while coin-collecting is enjoyed by many others. But these hobbies are followed by the people according to their respective tastes.

Everyone cannot afford to buy a cinema ticket and entertain himself. This does not mean that they remain deprived of recreation. They amuse themselves by the hobbies of their own choice. Therefore, hobbies are a sort of cheap source that gives pleasure to people.

I have got a number of hobbies such as story-telling and gardening. I take delight in telling stories of fairy godmothers and others. Wherever I find a story, I read it out to the children. They feel overjoyed to hear such rare stories. I love children very much and therefore I try to collect and read out as many new stories as I can. It is my hobby to learn stories and to narrate them to the children. In my home, you will find more than a hundred books on stories of different types. All these stories I have read out at least once. Now I can tell you tales from Greece, Rome or ancient Egypt, whichever you like. I know stories from ancient India as well. These stories are really very interesting.

I think like a child who loves tales. In addition to the storytelling. I love gardening. This is the hobby which I have reserved for my spare time. I pass my spare time gardening. I have got a big bungalow, where my parents reside. All around the bungalow, there are plants of flowers and fruit trees. I am the person who has planted all these flowers. I water and manure them and look after them. I am a student of Agriculture and thus know all these things. I take special delight in planting flowers. When the flowers bloom, they provide me (with) enough joy. Gardening inspires me to be in love with nature. Nature provides us with enough joy.

Gardening is also a source of joy. This world is full of sorrow and everybody feels the pangs of sorrow in one way or the other. In order to keep himself happy, he has to undertake one or the other hobby. Therefore, hobbies become the source of pleasure. Hobbies help us regain our lost energy. Hobbies refresh our minds.

Hobbies remove all our fatigue and worries. They prove to be our best companions. Hobbies are good for every person. I know one of my neighbours who sing and dances when he is free. I saw him in his moments when he was extremely happy. I wanted to know the source of his happiness and it was nothing but his deep interest in singing and dancing that I noticed in him.

I also like to sing and dance, but everyone can’t pursue the same hobby to the same extent. I cannot find so much pleasure out of singing and dancing as I do from gardening, photography, and other pastimes that I have already mentioned. Different tastes are the basis of all of them. My hobby is a very useful pursuit and it not only delights me, but it delights many others also.

Essay No. 07

There are many kinds of people in this world. Some spend their spare time pursuing interesting habits, while others waste their time in wasteful exercises like gossiping, etc.

Hobbies are carefully cultivated interesting habits. They could be anything reading, listening to music or cooking. Some people like to spend their spare time gardening or collecting stamps.

I have taken up reading as a hobby. I am a voracious reader. I read almost everything, except the literature relating to politics.

Reading gives me pleasure, it stimulates my mind. There have been times when I have come across certain books and articles which have left me very puzzled. It is because they have propounded those ideologies that go against the very principles of our ancient society. Such literature is usually about hatred, separation, and secession. It says that India should once again be divided according to the different religions, and those who refuse to accept this division should be eliminated. After reading these poisonous thoughts, I feel as if I am not living in India, a bastion of peace, any longer.

Then there are books written by stalwarts like Jiddu Krishnamurty, Sri Aurobindo, S. Radhakrishnan, etc. which have filled me with hope and pleasure. These great thinker-philosophers have been successfully redeeming my faith in mankind. I have the same feeling when I read about everyday incidents of communal harmony and religious tolerance I feel proud of my country when I read about young people who have achieved great heights in fields of science, management, arts, etc.

Reading besides providing emotional satisfaction, also gives valuable information about people, places, and objects. It is through books that I have visited many foreign countries, traveled in spaceships, had conversations,s and gained insight into the thoughts of the world leaders.

Indeed reading for me is more than a hobby. it is a passion, that I can never leave.
