What we like about using our own printer is that it’s fast, easy, and free. However, we found the quality isn’t as high as using a professional printing service. Home printers typically print in RGB colors, while professional printers use CMYK. And our home printer paper sizes and quality were pretty limited.

Still, for quick everyday printing needs, our own printer gets the job done. We just have to be aware of the color mode and any margin limitations if we want a borderless design.

Using a Professional Printing Service

When we needed higher quality, larger quantity, or specialty printing for client projects and events, using a professional printing service gave us way better results than home printing.

Here are some tips we followed to get pro prints of our Canva designs:

• Convert color mode to CMYK  – We learned that professional printers require designs to be in CMYK color mode rather than RGB. In Canva, you can change the color profile of your design to CMYK.
• Check resolution  – Print projects require a high resolution, usually around 300 dpi. We made sure to use high resolution images and elements before printing.
• Add bleed  – Any prints that went fully to the edge needed bleed. We add 0.25 inch bleed in our Canva designs to account for margins during printing.
• Include crop marks  – Adding crop marks in your Canva design will show the print shop where to make cuts.

Once our design is ready, we download it from Canva as a PDF print file. PDF is the standard format for most professional print jobs we found. Then, we upload the file to the printer’s website to place our order. We provide details like paper type, quantity, binding type, etc. The local print shop we use delivers the finished prints right to our office!

Using a professional printing service gives us stunning, high-quality results every time. The variety of paper types, binding options, finishing treatments, and print quantities available make print shops way better for most bigger projects.

How to Print from Canva Using Your Personal Printer

From designing to printing, Canva makes it extremely easy.

Using Canva, it’s extremely easy to design professional-looking graphics. You don’t need to be a professional to use Canva. With its intuitive drag-and-drop approach, you’ve finally created your first design.

Whether you were designing cards for your business or flyers for a yard sale, when you went ahead to print it, the only option you could find is Canva’s printing service. But you have your own printer and don’t want to spend money on their printing services.

No worries, you can print your designs using your personal printer. You can download your design and print it like any other file on your computer. It’s as easy. But when printing your designs, there are some things you need to pay attention to. Let’s see what all that’s about.

Before You Download your Design to Print

Downloading your design for printing is a piece of cake. But before you download your design, you need to make sure that your design is print-ready. From colors of the print to bleed and crop marks, a lot of thought goes into making your design print-ready.

Use the Right Colors

Printing the design on paper is different than publishing it online. When publishing a design online, you don’t have to worry about colors. In fact, you get to create designs with diverse color palettes. But print colors are not as rich and diverse as screen colors.

So, it’s better to use colors that are print-friendly. Canva suggests using CMYK colors for the designs you intend to print. The Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black color model refers to the ink plates used in printing instead of the RGB color values computer screens use. You can use an online CMYK color picker to build your color palette for CMYK colors.

You can either create your designs as you normally do and then make a copy and change the colors to CMYK equivalents in the copy or use CMYK colors, to begin with.

Check Margins

Before printing any designs, make sure that any important design elements aren’t cut while printing them. For that, always ensure that important information or design elements are inside the margins.

Open your design and go to the ‘File’ option on the editor menu bar.

Then, select ‘Show margins’ from the menu that appears.

A border of broken lines will appear on all the pages in the design. Rearrange any important elements to fall inside the margins.

Check for Print Bleed

When printing, it’s paramount to check for print bleed to make sure there are no white gaps at the edge of the paper or card.

Go to the ‘File’ option from the editor menu bar and click ‘Show print bleed’ from the menu.

A border of broken lines will appear close to the edge of the design. You cannot fix or move this margin. If there are any white gaps beyond this border, adjust your background to cover it entirely.

Double-click the background to edit it. Then, drag and drop the edges to cover the gaps completely. You can also resize any elements you don’t mind being cut around the edges.

Download and Print Your Design

Once you’ve tweaked the design with all the necessary requirements, it’s ready for download. Click the ‘Share’ button from the editor menu bar.

Then, click ‘Download’ from the menu.

Go to the option for ‘File type’ and click the format underneath it to expand the drop-down menu.

Select ‘PDF Print’ from the available file formats. This is the option you need to choose every time you want to print high-quality designs.

Check the option for ‘Crop marks and bleed’ so you know where to trim the paper once you print the design. If you don’t want crop marks, leave this option unchecked.

Finally, click the ‘Download’ button. If you have any premium elements in the design, click ‘Pay and download’ and pay for the element first.

The PDF for the design will be downloaded in the Downloads folder of your computer. You can now print it like any other document.

Open the PDF and click the ‘Print’ option or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + P (for Windows) and Command + P (for Mac).

Select your Printer model and make sure it supports printing in the size of your design. Set the scale to 100% to ensure the design is printed in the correct size and click ‘Print’.

Canva is a great place to make your own designs when you’re on a budget. And once you’ve created your design, printing it is a no-brainer either. All you have to do is tweak some settings and you’re good to go.

How to Print Notes in a Canva Presentation

Quickly print your notes in Canva documents, whether you are managing tasks, creating presentations, or using project plan templates. It's super easy to save notes and print in PDF formats using Canva's design tools and presentation ideas. In today’s free guide, we will show you how to easily print notes in a Canva Presentation.

Step 1 - Open the Presentation Template in Canva

Sign into your Canva account before beginning. We are using the free version of Canva for this tutorial. After downloading your purchased file, you will need to open the template in Canva . Go to where your file has been saved on your device and click on the HTML document in the template folder.

In the PDF document you will find a Canva Link. Click on this link, and in the next window click on the button that says Use Template. This will directly open the template in Canva for you.

After the presentation template has opened in Canva, you can make your edits and add your notes. It should be noted that if you want to add animation to your presentations, saving in a PDF format requires that you have a Canva Pro subscription.

Step 2 - Add your Notes to the Canva Presentation Template

Notes are very handy and easy to add in Canva. At the bottom of the page, click on the Notes tab and a section will open on the left-hand side of the screen. You can give your page a title at the top and type in your notes beneath.

You can add notes to each page by clicking on the specific page, and then clicking on the Notes tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3 - Print the Notes in your Canva Presentation

Once you have added all of your notes to the template, you can download the file as a PDF and include the notes for printing.

Click on the Share button in the top right-hand corner to open the menu options. Next, click on the Download button.

Download options will be available in various file formats, with PDF being the recommended one. You can save in any format that you want, but for this particular tutorial, we will be saving as a PDF file.

Tick the box for Include notes and if need be, select which pages you want saved or leave as is. When you have made your changes, click on Done. Next, click on the Download button to begin downloading the file.

After downloading the file, click to open it in your browser or PDF program. Each presentation page will have been saved on its own page with a space beneath it. Here you will find your notes for that particular page.

To print the file, click on the Printer icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen. In the print settings window, select your printer from the drop-down menu, and then click on the Print tab bottom right. Also, tick the box next to “Flatten PDF” as this will improve the print.

Choose between RGB and CMYK. CMYK is the best option for printing.

If you’re using premium elements in your design, you will need to pay for them first.

Now hit “Download” and your design will begin to download.

Once your Canva design is downloaded, you can send it directly to your home printer or the professional printing service of your choice.

Click the “Checkout” button or the “Add to cart” button when you have reviewed your poster.

“Checkout” takes you directly to finishing your order, while “Add to cart” allows you to add more products for print before you complete your order.

When you’re ready to checkout, the shipping details window will open and you can decide between two shipping options, standard or express.

Underneath, you will need to fill in your name and shipping address, then click “Continue”.

Now you can enter your payment details and soon your design will be arriving at your door.
