iracing loading error failed to connect to race server : How to fix it ?

iRacing cover image

We all have played the need for speed for once, in our life and our obsession for games might have started from that point. There are many racing and sports games available in the industry and EA owns most of those. iRacing is a relatively old franchise published by iRacing.com. This game was published back in 2008 and it is a simulation-based online game. The gameplay and graphics are decent as per the system requirements. It isn’t much better than the need for speed or any mainstream racing games. However, it is much more appealing than many of the racing games out there. Hence, it is mandatory to solve the iRacing server connection error.

Fix for iRacing Server Connection error

Though it is an online game. There are bugs and errors mostly related to the server which ping up during unusual times. These bugs are irritating and frustrating to solve than normal bugs. You can follow one of the three tips mentioned below.

  • The cause of this bug might be your antivirus or firewall software blocking some files. Check if the files listed below are allowed by your firewall or antivirus software.
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\iRacingLocalServer64.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\iRacingService64.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\iRacingSim64DX11.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\iRacingUpdater.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\iRacing\UI\iRacingui.exe

If any of these are not allowed, then go to your software and unblock them. Now reboot your computer and log on to your game again and try to launch a session.

  • If you have a program called Qualcomm Atheros killer network manager, then go to your control panel. Under programs, you will see a list of files listed there. Go to program configuration settings and make sure all the racing files are allowed.
  • Now go to your documents/iracing folder and open the core.ini file. Change the value of connect_sockets from 0 to 1 and save it and try again to open a session. If this doesn’t work try to contact them by email.

These are the tricks to solve these errors. You can try using all of it.

iRacing Adds Multiple Servers Around the World to Accommodate Rapidly Growing User Base

May 3rd, 2020 by Chris Leone

iracing awaiting assignment to server

Over the past couple of weeks, iRacers may have noticed the addition of the letters “E” and “W” to the American flag when checking which servers are hosting their events. With the dramatic expansion of the iRacing user base to more than 170,000 active members, we have added a number of new server farms around the world, ranging from Virginia to Frankfurt, Germany, in order to reduce network latency between drivers competing on opposite ends of the planet. iRacing principal engineer Randy Cassidy explains how iRacing is responding to increased demands of the service, and what you can expect (and are already seeing):

Due to the global nature of competition on the service, there are often times when a single “split” will have members from all over the world. With the extremely long network paths between Europe and APAC (Australia and New Zealand in particular), network latencies between those regions can be very large. Hosting such a split in Amsterdam (if there are mostly Europeans) or in Sydney (if there are mostly Aussies/Kiwis) causes members from the more-remote region to have extremely high network latency to the server – to the point that cars cannot be positioned reasonably.

The lower the network latency between the racers in a session and the race server, the less delay there is in getting position information from one racer to another, and so the more accurately the sim can position the cars in the simulation world. iRacing currently has race “farms” in Sydney, Amsterdam, and Boston.  Sessions where some member pings are best to Amsterdam, and some other member pings are best to Sydney are placed onto our Boston farm to reduce the overall pair-wise latency between drivers.

To improve the ping times for our members in Australia and New Zealand when this occurs, last year iRacing added a network circuit that reaches from Boston into both Sydney and Auckland. This circuit generally has much more consistent performance than “the general Internet”, and significantly better ping times, particularly into Australia. With the change in global Internet traffic, mostly since the rise to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the subsea and terrestrial portions of our circuit have become more stressed, at times leading to a switch to alternate paths with increased latency, and at times leading to packet loss and varying latency.

iRacing is working with our providers to ensure consistent performance and the lowest latency we can achieve on this circuit. This will involve creating alternate routes across the US and meeting Anycast (our main provider in AU and NZ) at an additional location on the US west coast (Seattle, in addition to our existing meeting in Los Angeles). This will allow us to avoid the problematic (mostly) subsea routes out of Australia, while adding resilience, and ensuring the ability to take advantage of a new subsea route (Southern Cross Next) when it becomes available.

Additionally, iRacing is phasing-in a new race server farm on the US west coast. Initially this new farm is being made available for User-Created Race sessions, while we work on enhancements to our “scheduling” algorithms to more fully utilize this new resource. With these enhancements, we’ll have two alternate locations (Boston, and the US west coast) for splits that have EU and AU/NZ/APAC members. Such a split would be placed onto the Boston farm if the average of the member pings there is better than to the US west coast farm, or vice versa.

Typically, it would likely work out that during “peak” hours in Europe, the sessions would end up in Boston, and during peak hours in the APAC region, they’d end up on our US west coast farm. Pings of our APAC region customers to this new US west coast farm are in the range of 50ms to 80ms lower than to our Boston farm, while pings to it from central/western Europe are about 60ms to 75ms higher.

I originally posted the same question about 1-2weeks ago with not much help. It sound as if you are having the same issues as me when trying to join a race the green bar shows that it's attempting to connect as it should, it does a few full runs and then you get the little window cannot connect to serve. I usually close that window close the what's supposed to be race result window and press the JOIN tab again until it connects. This process is repeated until the dame server decides to connect me.Most case I find that I will connect about 3/4 of the way through warm up roughly about 2mins before race start. Sometime my attempt will see me start from pit lane about half a lap after race start which is a disaster but better then a forfeit. I hope I'm describing or experiencing the same issue as you are if so the only real guess I have for now is that if the race is based on an international serve I find that's when I have these issues the most. You can usually only tell after the race where the server is by the countries that dominate the make up of racers involved. I'm based in OZ and find the only time I don't have an issues and connect first go is usual around prime times during the weekend between hours of 11am and 6pm when iracing would base the server out of my location. It sucks big time and hammers your irating sometime which for a subscription based game should have more support for a bug fix. These days service is more important then the product you buy ironically. Still love the game thou!!!

Well with my issue it was not letting me enter at all besides test runs, and I have resolved this issue after doing tons of googling now my issue is a latency issue and code 10035 which I racing sent me directions on how to ping there servers to see where the issue is coming from

Best thing to do is to prioritize the UDP traffic and iRacing port ranges on your router:

What's your internet bandwidth and what ping are you getting to the servers?  Practice, Qualifying, and Race sessions will reject you on poor ping but generally you can always get on to a Test session as long as you connect to the server for verification.  Also, are other people sharing the same internet connection while you are trying to connect?  Sometimes people can't figure out why they can't connect when the missus is watching Eastenders on iPlayer in the room next door.

How To Set Up Hosted Sessions on iRacing

June 26, 2021 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Last updated on June 29th, 2021 at 01:53 am

It’s never been completely intuitive to create private racing, so it’s good to see a new video explaining how to set up hosted sessions on iRacing. Especially when it will cost you 50 cents per hour, with a minimum of $1 for two hours.

Whether you want to set up a one-off event or create a league series, you’ll need to decide before starting the process of setting up a session. Which includes setting an optional password, choosing the best server location to minimise latency problems, and then selecting sessions types, practices, driving aids, weather and more.

But it’s worth spending the time to work out the iRacing hosting system, as it opens up a whole new world for you to establish your own series or championship. Or just have some fun with unusual car and track combinations.

How To Set Up Hosted Sessions on iRacing

Having gone through the process, and chatted with a few league and event organisers, it can take some practice before you get used to the system. Especially when you can create a multi class session by selecting up to 7 different cars. And then tweak the fuel capacity, weight penalty, engine power and the maximum tyre changes for each one.

Other options include standing or rolling starts, your choice of pace car, and whether or not tyre marbles are left on the track.

Even when you’ve become familiar with the process, changing between a set number of laps or a fixed time limit can cause issues. It’s always worth testing a new format if possible before you use it for a live event.

So keeping the video guide on how to set up hosted session on iRacing bookmarked is a good idea if you’re thinking about setting up private races or leagues now, or in the future.

I’ve always played racing games and enjoyed public online lobbies in all the titles I’ve played. But it was semi-serious league racing on Forza which led me into taking virtual motorsport more seriously (and creating this website). And I’ve rediscovered the joy of sim racing leagues with Team ORD competing in the first season of the VW Jetta Cup in 2021, for example. If you can find a decent group of people running events and series for cars and tracks you enjoy, it can be the most fun way to enjoy sim racing.

And in some ways it’s also more realistic, as you’ll definitely be competing against the same people for a period of weeks or months. So you’ll quickly get to know your rivals, and be able to race more closely with them, because you’ll know how they typically drive.

You can sign up to iRacing, here (and credit your referral to ORD, which will help us potentially fund some events in the future!). And see all vehicles included in your basic subscription, or what you can access by paying more, in our full official iRacing car list, here .

Or check out all of the included circuits, and the others you can buy, in our full official iRacing track list, here . And keep up with all the latest iRacing news, updates and eSports, here .

Troubleshooting iracing latency/quality problems..

I often have network problems in iRacing. The lag indicator will show high latency, or the quality indicator shows problems. How do I find the source of the problem?

Of course, you were 1/2 lap ahead 45 minutes into a race when this happened and lost connection! AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!

PingPlotter does great on finding this type of problem. Most of the time, these days (2011), the problem is with your own network or your ISP - not with iRacing or the internet 'cloud'.

With PingPlotter, you can isolate the problem. Is it your wireless network? Is it a bad cable modem connection? Bad hub/router? ISP problem?

Here are the steps to follow to isolate the problem:

  • Run PingPlotter Standard or Pro
  • Set the trace interval to 2.5 seconds or 5 seconds
  • Enter the corresponding IP address for the server or region you are playing on. You can find a list of iRacing IP addresses here .
  • Let PingPlotter run in the background while you practice/race.
  • When you have an in-game network problem, and you get a chance, create a comment on the time period of the problem in PingPlotter. (See the 'Creating a comment or note' in our Getting Started Guide for instructions on how to do this).
  • Review the data for patterns. Your main goal here is to discover the source of the problem, so turn on time graphs for each hop until you find the first hop with problems.
  • The problem *may* be caused by data being transferred to your network (is anyone else using the network and downloading/transferring data?). Try correlating the packet loss or latency problem with network activity that's happening.

Once you find the problem, you can take the proper steps to solve it. Here are some examples:

  • If the problem is between your computer and your wireless router, and you're using 802.11(a/b/g/n), think about moving your router, changing wireless channels, or maybe even using network wires instead of wireless.
  • If your problem is inside your own (wired!) network (like happened to someone at Pingman Tools a bunch during a Skippy season), check your network cables, router/hubs, and network cards. Try eliminating parts, testing from other computers (if you have one), and swapping parts to isolate the problem.
  • If your problem is with your ISP, you'll have to contact them. Keep collecting data with PingPlotter and save off images of problem periods to help them understand that there is a problem (which they'll often deny, of course, if you just call them with an 'I sometimes have problems, but it's OK now' story.

Here are some additional good resources about troubleshooting:

  • How to pinpoint the problem.
  • VoIP Troubleshooting with PingPlotter . Gaming and VoIP have many similarities in their latency requirements. This is a great article with some scenarios to look for.

If you have any additional resources we should include here, or additional tips, please let us know!

We now allow users to bring AI rosters into hosted sessions with them, with a few restrictions:

  • The Car and Track must both be AI-enabled
  • AI cannot be used in combination with Teams
  • The session host must run the AI on their machine
  • The host must stay connected to the server in order to transmit the AI
  • AI drivers take a grid spot just like a normal user, and this cannot be recovered after it has been taken.

To help identify AI-enabled cars and tracks we have added a filter to both car and track selectors.

Hosting AI requires more bandwidth than normal racing. If a user frequently blinks or has connection issues they should not host AI or the AI will go through the same blinking issues.

AI can be used in League sessions, but cannot be assigned to a fixed starting grid. They do not score points.

Common Issues

The user hosting the AI most likely has a connection issue.

The user hosting the AI must register through the UI. Registering through the membersite does not support bringing AI into the session.

This is most likely related to the Connection Type set in the Account section of the membersite. More info is available here -

Iracing UI "Failed to connect to race server" issue after swapping headsets

So about 3 months back I decided to swap out my headset for a new one. After plugging in the new one, I could no longer join races other than solo test sessions through the UI, always getting an issue when connecting to the server "Failed to connect to race server". I switched over to the website after allowing Iracing through my antivirus, and changing my audio output in a test session, and swapping back to my old headset with no avail. However, I want to finally solve this issue once and for all since it seems like Iracing is shifting focus towards the UI and not the website. Anybody know how to fix this? I have also tried a clean install of iracing but that did not work either.
