Online Railway Ticket Reservation System

Online Railway ticket reservation is very useful nowadays. This is very important to design a good-working system software for ticket booking and related transactions. To design it, full-track documentation of models(ER, DFD, Class, Use-case, Activity, Sequence) is required as per as software development is concerned.

Features of the System:

The Reservation system should contain the following features:

  • If a passenger wants to reserve ticket(s), firstly, he/she has to log in to the Railway system with valid credentials. Then, the passenger has to provide his/her details with the date of the journey, names of the passengers and their details, origin station details, destination station details, and the class type of the required ticket(s).
  • The Railway Reservation System will provide the available Train-list, and Seat-availability, via-details.
  • To book a ticket passengers can pay through online/offline mode. After successful payment of the ticket fare the System will generate the ticket and PNR no. will be given to the passenger. The System also keeps the payment details and sends them to the system Admin.
  • The Passenger can check PNR status (confirmed, RAC, waiting list) by entering the PNR no. into the Reservation system.
  • The Reservation system should store all train details, fare details (by zone, class, and date wise), PNR no, date of trains, etc. This maintenance should be controlled by the Admin.
  • The System also has refund rules which have a date of reservation, ticket fare, and refundable percentage. The passenger can simply cancel the ticket(s) by entering the PNR no and a cancel ticket request. After cancelation, the Admin will pass the refundable amount to the System and the System will give the refundable amount to the passenger.

What is an Online Reservation System and why do you need it?

An Online Reservation System is a software you can use for managing reservations for your service. Be it a pool, fitness center, gym, yoga studio, or a parks & recreation center an Online Reservation System allows all kinds of service businesses to accept bookings and appointments online and manage their phone and in-person bookings with ease.

Basically, an online reservation system allows a potential customer to book and pay for a service directly through a website. That means from the moment a customer decides they want to book a slot for your service (be it an in-house class or online appointment) to choosing a date, picking a time, and paying for the booking, membership management, everything is handled online! It greatly reduces the workload on your staff and removes the opportunity for double-bookings.

This article's purpose is to help you understand online booking systems a little better, how they can help your business and how to know if it's right for you.

Why should you use an online reservation system?

We now live in a world where almost everything is practically inseparable from the internet, businesses topping the list. It's now crucial that every business has a recognizable online presence, no matter its sector. Not only does modern technology help businesses get found online, but it also helps them easily convert visits into revenue through an online reservation system.

Here are the reasons why you should consider putting an online booking system for your service business in place:

It increases your bookings

case study on online reservation system

One of the most significant benefits of an online reservation system is that they are always open for business. You can accept bookings 24/7, so your customers don't have to wait until the next day to make a reservation or worse, turn to one of your competitors. Clients have the convenience to book when it's right for them, and you collect bookings while you sleep. Plus, bookings can be made at their own convenience from the comfort of their home. Eliminate the need to call up the facility to ask for details or go to one and struggle to find a suitable slot to book. Your business can keep its calendars full throughout the year!

It saves time

Online reservation system helps you do more with less by delegating the booking-related tasks to an automated platform. A reservation system enables you to automate notifications to your clients. Once you have your business set up on the platform, you won't have to call your guests for reminders or send follow-up emails, which also means a drastic reduction of no-shows, and you don't lose out on your income! All of this runs in the background, so you and your staff can focus on providing the best experience to your clients.

Customers today expect instant gratification, and an online reservation system can help you provide it. Nobody in this day and age has the patience to wait at the front desk! Booking software can help you manage your waitlist . No more long queues at the front desk or having to say "one moment" to a customer waiting for you to get off the phone again! Avoid confusions that come with bookings, and automate everything with booking software with a waitlist management feature.

Take your business global

If there is anything we have learned in the year 2020, a physical facility should not stop one from running a business. With everything going online, businesses, too, have shifted. An online booking system provides the ability to integrate with video conferencing apps such as Zoom or Google Meets.

The virtual set-up means you clients from all around the world can book your services!

A booking software keeps track of each reservation and every detail that goes with it. You can use reports to find what kind of bookings are making you the most money, get a better understanding of who your typical customer is, and have accurate insights into your cash flow. An online booking software gives you the ability to make data-driven decision s and grow your business.

It puts you a step ahead of your competition.

case study on online reservation system

There's a multitude of businesses out there who have a website and are listed on Google, but only a few have an online booking system in place. By having an online reservation system, you're one step ahead of the game, tipping the scales in your favor when prospects research and compare your capabilities against your competitors.

Of course, the presence of an online booking system itself is not enough to make or break the sale. You still need to make sure the other aspects of your site (like imagery, for example) are in the best shape to minimize the number of visitors that bounce off it.

Conclusion: Should you use an online reservation system?

When evaluating software, you should always consider the initial investment, both time and money, and the potential benefit to your company. With a booking system, there is a learning curve. But the best booking software company should provide you with all the support you need to get started. And with everything you gain, we think it's a no-brainer.

Case Study: Increasing Online Bookings & Streamlining Restaurant Operations

Elana Kroon

Wapalapam is an Indian Ocean Eatery, located on the foothills of the beautiful Le Morne Brabant mountain in Mauritius. Known for its perfect setting and for turning a culinary experience into a memorable occasion, the unique and authentic restaurant was started by the famous Snowboarding World Cup champion, Rok Flander, and his wife, Gabriella in 2016.

https://wapalapam.com

Introduction

The power couple transformed an old Bank into a shabby chic-looking restaurant, offering guests the special opportunity to eat local Indian Ocean food off the more than 100 years old wooden tables and chairs - an ambiance that fits perfectly with the beautiful environment of the UNESCO, protected by the Le Morne Brabant mountain area.

And to top it all off, the Wapalapam duo joined forces with founder and author, “Aquacasia, Culinary Jewels of the Indian Ocean,” Chef Willibald Reinbacher to create a new culinary concept, which offers an unforgettable mix of authentic and artisanal offerings, “capturing the heart and soul of each island’s love of food.” Each year, the magnificent restaurant grows from stretch to stretch, giving guests from around the world a unique, and unforgettable experience. Subsequently leading them to branch out with a second location in Port Louis in 2021. So, how do they do it?

In February 2021, owners Rok and Gabriella started using Eat App to help them manage their online bookings and operations in general. Today, the restaurant has seen an increase in online bookings, which helped them get back into the swing of things, after the visible decrease in restaurant reservations during the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic. The restaurant received 241% more reservations during December and January 2022, compared to February 2020 which was the best month pre-pandemic.

We spoke to Restaurant Manager Gloria Reinbacher to tell us a bit more about how they manage to increase their bookings and seat guests faster on a daily basis. “We started using Eat App to have better follow up and record on reservations,” she says. It was also important for Gloria and the staff at Wapalapam to give guests the opportunity to make reservations online, plan and have a clear record of reservations.

When it comes to Eat App, Gloria mostly uses our software to assist her with ongoing reservations and seating of guests. “Planning the setup [of the restaurant], ensuring staff are on duty, monitoring all bookings for our different outlets, ensuring smooth operation in general” are a few other important tasks Gloria is responsible for at Wapalapam restaurant.

case study on online reservation system

1. Increasing online bookings

Firstly, let’s review how Wapalapam restaurant managed to increase its online reservations and increase their turnover rate. Eat App, conveniently helps you set up your booking widget on your online platforms such as your website, Google, Facebook, and Instagram increasing your online bookings by 57%; and best of all, the covers generated through these widgets are completely free of charge. Restaurants like Wapalapam are also completely in charge of their own reservation channels, which means they have full control over accepting or declining incoming bookings they receive online. “Eat App is practical. I believe it [the software] did increase online bookings,” Gloria says.

case study on online reservation system

2. Building a guest database

The guest that made a reservation at Wapalapam through the booking widget is then automatically added to the guestbook along with their reservation history and contact details in case they visit again. For Gloria and the staff of Wapalapam, this has been a game-changer. They now spend less time of the day writing out details of every single guest making reservations. “We save paper, that’s for sure. We also spend less time with staff on the phone,” Gloria says.

After you’ve automatically collected your guest database, restaurants are able to use the valuable information and send guest marketing emails and SMSs. “Creating data helps contact clients in advance for changes and future booking/marketing,” she says. “This information is important for feedback, no-shows, etc,” Gloria adds.

When it comes to improving the guest experience, Gloria mentions this is essential for restaurants. “Loyal customers are important for all businesses as they are going to give genuine feedback and recommendations,” Gloria says. The manager of Wapalapam also went on to say the feature she would recommend using to help increase guest loyalty is the “contact record and reservation system” built into Eat App.

With this important guest information, restaurants can easily:

  • Offer guests special discounts during non-peak hours.
  • Access powerful guest and reservation reports to better understand your business.
  • Improve guest loyalty and engagement with automated guest segmentation and email marketing tools.
  • Restaurants are also able to collect continuous customer feedback with automated online surveys.

3. Streamline reservations & set up your shifts

Once Wapalapam has received online bookings they use Eat App’s reservation software and table management system to confirm or cancel the reservation. They also have the option to add any notes about the reservation in the system for staff members to view when these guests arrive.

A few examples of how the Notes feature of Eat App can be used:

  • To inform your staff of the daily specials
  • To let your staff know that a big group is coming for a birthday party and to have the tables ready
  • To communicate if a certain dish is out of stock

This feature not only helps the restaurant to create a better guest experience but also helps give staff full control over managing the reservations.

dc.description.abstract This research was based at improving bookings and minimizing the cost at hotel. One of the problems cited at the hotel is that the hotel used to advertise their services on posters and on streets. For this case, the main purpose of the study was to develop an online hotel reservation system for the hotel to minimize these problems. The main method used was the RAD from SSADM where the functional modules are developed in parallel as prototypes and are integrated to make the complete product for faster product delivery. Since there is no detailed preplanning, it makes it easier to incorporate the changes within the development process. The major tools that were used in the implementation an Online hotel reservation system are; (i) MySQL database server. (ii) Hypertext Pre- processor (PHP) (iii)Hypertext mark-up language (HTML) (iv) Cascading style sheets (CSS) and JavaScript. Therefore, an online hotel reservation system was developed to solve the problems that the hotel is facing due to use of manual system in the way that the system enables the hotel to handle booking activities online and meet the satisfaction of their customers. en_US

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE AIRLINE RESERVATION INFORMATION SYSTEM

Profile image of AKINSANYA D OLUWOLE

Airline Reservation Systems (ARS) used to be standalone systems. Each airline had its own system, disconnected from other airlines or ticket agents, and usable only by a designated number of airline employees. Travel agents in the 1970s pushed for access to the airlines' systems. Today, air travel information is linked, stored, and retrieved by a network of Computer Reservations Systems (CRS), accessible by multiple airlines and travel agents. This report is a summary of the study that was undertaken to design and implement an airline reservation system. The airline reservation system designed in this project was developed using php, java script and html as the programming languages and MySQL as the database Management system. The researcher reviewed the literature of reservation systems in chapter two and explored the advantages and limitations of reservation system in real life situations. The researcher used interviews and questionnaire methods during the data collection phase, these data collection methods helped the researcher to better understand the existing system in use. Case tools and data flow diagram were used during the development process to simulate the process of airline reservation and ticket booking. The outcome of the study was an online airline reservation system tested and implemented in the case study Rwenzori Airlines to book, schedule and reserve flights.

The proposed project is a computerized reservation and ticketing system. Specifically, the project pertains only in the Flightiness operation of booking a passenger and reserving a seat in a flight and provides a payment process that will generate ticket in the ticketing system. The related sub-system Hotel, Tour, and Car Reservation has a direct connection in the ticketing system of the project since that the system only reserves a passenger who wants to include a hotel, tour, or car reservation in relation to their flight reservation. The developers provide a short report of their data gathered in the next paragraphs. This is an important part of this section that will give the reader an idea of what is the project theme all about.
