A Dream Vacation in the Maldives

A Dream Vacation in the Maldives

Where does one even begin to explain the beauty of somewhere like the Maldives? No words, pictures or bragging can do it justice, but let me try…

The Maldives are a world away from it all . Pure paradise, a little piece of heaven , positively   breathtaking  and by far a dream come true.

We arrived at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (Male) and from the moment we stepped out of the airport, we knew we were in for a treat. Right before our eyes was the most magnificent turquoise water. It was so clear I’m sure you could see your reflection. For once, I wouldn’t mind if our return flight was delayed.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Setting foot in the Maldives has always been high on our bucket list, in fact, it’s been a dream for years. Now, after 2.5 years of continuous travel, it was finally our turn to wake up to the sound and the sight of the Indian Ocean.

For the next 5 days, we would call Sun Aqua Vilu Reef “home”. A barefoot, no stress, outrageously beautiful island.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef is found on Meedhuffushi Island, an intimate jewel in the Maldives’ South Nilandhe Atoll. The island can be reached by seaplane 35-40 minutes from Male.

Maldives

For the entire duration of the flight, we couldn’t take our eyes off the sights below. It was indescribable. 1,192 coral islands lay scattered throughout the ocean with every shade of blue and green imaginable. We were giddy in our seats, the smiles couldn’t be wider and the anticipation to reach the resort was at an all-time high. This was one flight that could have lasted forever!

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

The second our seaplane hit the water we couldn’t wait to start exploring. We’re here! Smiling faces greeted us from the jetty and an individual staff member was allocated to each guest. How’s that for service? Shammun, you rock.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

During the 4 nights, we were very fortunate to experience 2 different rooms and we can safely say we absolutely loved them both. Predominately the views and all the space!

The first room was the  Sun Aqua Pool Villa. We slide the key in the lock, opened the door and our gasp was immediate. Surely this isn’t real life. Ocean views with our own private pool, a giant swing, an outdoor bathroom/bathtub and a giant bed facing the ocean. Could we ask for anything else? We were two snap-happy, very relaxed globetrotters.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Just when we think it couldn’t get any better, we were moved to a Sunset Reef Villa . Holy Smokes! When you think of the Maldives, your mind is immediately drawn to the houses on stilts, with the ocean as your front door. Panoramic ocean views, open space, the ocean so close you can feel the salt in your hair and a private balcony with direct access to the lagoon. Morning, noon and night we were in the water lapping up these incredible moments.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

The only thing we advise… don’t jump from your balcony kids, it’s shallow and you will hurt yourself. Ouch…

Activities or Relaxation?

Eat, sleep, swim, relax, breathe (this is very important) – repeat.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

If you come to the Maldives and choose to do nothing but that, you won’t be disappointed. However, for adventurous travellers, there is still plenty to do to keep you entertained.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

There’s a huge variety of water sports, tennis/volleyball courts, boat trips, live music entertainment, a gym, paddle-boarding and why not a sunset fishing trip to catch your next meal? We managed to catch 12 fish between the two of us. Perhaps we need to take this fishing thing a little more seriously?!? Food tastes so much better when you work for it!

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Last but not least, let me touch on the subject of snorkelling. It was out of this world. Surrounding the resort is a protected reef with over 100 different species of fish. The water is outrageously clear and the colours of the fish are just stunning. I honestly didn’t think it was possible to have water this transparent.

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Room Service Anyone?

Apart from enjoying a delicious breakfast buffet with a stunning setting and exchanging “wow” every second sentence, ordering room service was just a whole lot of “yes”. Let’s just add to the luxury, shall we?

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

Considering room service at hotels is usually 10x the regular price, it was surprising to see the cost of a room service meal was cheaper than eating at the buffet, pool bar or at the fine dining restaurant. This made for an easy decision each evening during sunset to dial the famous “In Villa Dining” and request our favourite bottle of rosé and maybe the occasional pizza. Ah, just reliving this makes me smile. This setting is just too much to handle!

Sun Aqua Vilu Reef

When we were tired of the buffet (if that’s even possible) and looking for something a little more romantic, we ate at the “Well Done” restaurant located directly on the sand right against the water. The setting was just perfect and the meals were tasty (if maybe a little pricey, but hey, remember you are in the Maldives).

Top tips to get the most out of your stay

  • Allow 3/4 of a day to reach the resort. The time from your international flight landing + the seaplane/boat transfer will take up a good chunk of the day. We landed at 9:00 am and didn’t reach the resort until 2:30 pm. It’s the price you pay to stay somewhere so remote and wonderful.
  • If something isn’t right, ASK . The staff WILL fix it. If not then and there, within a very short period of time.
  • If you’re staying in a Beach Villa, request one facing the lagoon side. We felt the view was better.
  • If you plan to drink a lot of cocktails, be sure to look at the all-inclusive option. It will save you some dosh.
  • Honestly, the food was hit & miss but if you ask for something fresh, it will be given to you. No questions asked.
  • Snorkel to your little heart’s content. Jump in the water from Entry Point 1.

Would we recommend this hotel?

Absolutely. I wish we never had to leave. Sun Aqua felt like a home away from home and by the end of the 5 days we felt like a family with all the friendly staff members. They knew our names, our drink orders and our likes and dislikes. We’re already jealous of anyone that gets to set foot in this resort. Please do us a favour and when you pack, pack us with you! And don’t forget your wallet, you  may need it ;).

Thank you for having us Sun Aqua Vilu Reef!

My Trip To Maldives

my dream vacation essay maldives

Every year I make it my goal to travel to an exotic location and completely disconnect to fully reconnect with myself by immersing with the culture and further expanding my mind. In 2016 I picked the beautiful Maldive Islands to visit. I have been thinking about going to Maldives since 2012 and even talked about it on my social media several times as my dream destination. In August 2016 the trip manifested into my reality and the experience truly changed my life.

Here are several of my posts speaking my experience into existence. Mind you, when I said I wanted to be there, it wasn’t a priority for me since I was traveling to other places across the world. The idea of going to Maldives was more of a “one day” talk. However, it was on my mental radar, which is so crucial when you want to have an experience manifest into your reality. My vibration was aligned with the belief that I will be there soon, so it manifested in due time with absolute ease. I can truly say that I have experienced my thoughts become my reality so many times, but I’ll leave the details of that for another post.

Before we go any further into my experience of Maldives, let me share some information with you so that you can have a better undertanding of what this little piece of heaven on earth is all about. After I give you some insight and research that I have done before I went, I will get into the depths of my experience there.

The beautiful Maldives consists of 1190 tiny islands scattered across the Indian Ocean. Maldives is located next to India and Sir Lanka.

Out of the 1190 islands in Maldives, only 185 of these islands are inhabited, while the others are used largely for tourism (90 resorts) and agriculture. The atolls are composed of live coral reefs and sand bars perched atop a 960km submarine ridge, while the land features lush tropical vegetation with abundant local coconut palms. With an average ground level of 1.5m above sea level, the Maldives is by far the lowest country on earth and as such has a very fragile ecosystem. The capital and largest city of the Maldives is Male. Maldives waters are thriving with whales and dolphins. At any given time of the year, there are 10 to 12 different species of whales and dolphins that call the coral reefs of the Maldives home.

After my research of Maldives and discovering that there were 90 resorts, I had to find the one that I would explore during my stay. I decided that I was going to stay at Baros Resort because of its beauty, privacy, and adventure.

After discovering the island that I was going to explore during my stay, I prepared for my long trip to Maldives, which was approximately 20hrs and 45minutes from San Diego, California to Male, Maldives. I packed up and headed for the airport to go on this beautiful journey to the other side of the world.

Knowing that I was going to be flying for 20hrs and 45mins, I brought several books with me. I love reading, so I utilized my travel time to go through a few books.

After my long trip, I finally made it to Male, Maldives.

When you first get to Maldives, you land in the main city called Male. Once you get to the Male International Airport, the resort sends a representative with a boat to escort you to your designated island. The boat ride from the airport to the resort was about 20mintues. During the ride I was offered a clean towel and water to relax. Upon approaching the deck of the resort, I noticed 6 hotel staff waving and ready to welcome me. It was such a warm welcome. I was quickly introduced to my butler Ahmad who was going to be there to guide me through my stay. Ahmad was very friendly and quickly started giving me insight on the resort. I did arrive in the evening, so I was a bit jet-lagged. I was taken to my water villa that had the view of the sunset from the back and sunrise from the front. It was soothing to hear the water underneath the villa as I was walking to my room. When I got to my room, I found a beautiful welcome note from the staff. After unpacking and unwinding from my travel, I ordered room service.

The next morning I felt rejuvenated and even woke up to the beautiful sound of the water below the villa.

After taking in the beautiful sunrise, I felt completely at peace and connected to the source energy. I sat down on the couch and just started counting my blessings. The thing I realized while being in complete silence is how clear your thoughts become. I felt a deep gratitude for being alive and experiencing what my thoughts can manifest. After about 1 hour of introspection and meditation, my breakfast arrived.

During my trip I had several adventures on my itinerary. I was going to be getting a special massage called the ‘Third Eye Massage’ also known as the Shirodhara Head Massage. I also had snorkeling and island events to attend. Keep in mind that the island is so small so most of what you’ll be doing will have a lot to do with relaxation and sometimes you’ll find yourself laying next to the water for hours.

Before I get into the list of incredible things I did while on the island, let me talk a little bit more about the food, the people, and the environment. Baros Resort is simply breathtaking. The island provided so many different types of food that it was easy to find something that fits into anyone’s diet. Since Maldives is almost 99% sea, it is not surprising that fish (mainly tuna) is the most important staple of the Maldivian diet. The cuisine found in the island is a mix of Arabic, Indian, Sri Lankan and Oriental influences. The resort also had a diverse international menu as well as traditional Maldivian dishes. Coconuts are a major part of many dishes in Maldives and can be served in grated form, as milk or as coconut oil to cook food with. I loved the clear blue water and white sand that surrounded the island. Also I loved the lush green palm trees and exotic plants that were everywhere. There were exotic birds, lizards, and even insects. The staff on the island were so nice and welcoming. They constantly made me feel at home. The whole island was just incredible.

One of the exciting part of my trip was getting the Third Eye Therapy. At the spa I received a massage treatment called Shirodhara Head massage. This massage originated in India and is sometimes referred to as the  Third Eye Therapy.  The massage consists of warm only dripping on the center of your eyebrow for 30mins. The massage is supposed to promote balance, intuition, and relaxation. I felt myself getting deeper into a trance. The soothing sound of the music and the warm oil stimulated complete bliss. I believe I was awake as I was entering into Alpha brainwave. This is a state of creating and connecting with the unlimited source. My visions were detailed and clearer. The whole stay did stimulate a deep meditative state since I was spending time in nature and in the water everyday. This massage was the icing on the cake. I felt happy, whole, and very much connected.

Another beautiful experience I had was snorkeling on the island. Maldives is known for its reefs and the world of beauty that roams under the water. I enjoyed connecting with all the sea life. When I initially went into the water I saw a baby shark swimming around and got scared. The marine biologist that was with me told me to explore and connect instead of being scared, because sharks are actually friendly. I trusted her guidance and went far into the sea. I felt energized throughout the experience. I felt like I entered a whole new world. The colors, beauty, and vibrancy of the sea life was magnificent.

My trip to Maldives was incredible. I honestly didn’t want to leave, but my time to return to San Diego was fast approaching. Going on this kind of trip really taught me the importance of isolation and deep relaxation. Getting away from everything to reconnect with yourself truly does something magnificent to you. During my stay at Baros Maldives I experienced a lot of introspection. Being surrounded by water and being in silence is transformational. Also being away from everything and everyone, you start to think much more deeply and clearly. I felt the union between my inner voice and my thoughts. Understanding the power of myself meant being one with my inner voice. I also started to really get clear by eliminating the excess mind chatter and finding that inner place of oneness with self. I felt loved, happy, and energized. I do believe being in nature naturally does this to you. You don’t necessarily have to be in Maldives to get this experience. However, you have to connect with the frequency of the earth and get out of the busy city life and into nature often. I commit myself to 1hr of nature daily by being surrounded by water, plants, mountains, and animals. It’s pure bliss for me. I hope this gave you some insight about Maldives. With the power of your mind, you can go anywhere. Hope you get to experience this heaven on earth soon.

The next amazing place to visit there is the “ Fua Mulaku “, the largest island in Maldives. 10 Scenic Upstate New York Road Trips That Should Be On Your Bucket List

10 least stressed states in the us, ranked by stress score, 10 state parks in washington with scenic hikes.

Picture it: Calm, crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and a personal hut that sits just over the water so that in the mornings, a sunrise swim is only steps away. Pair that with a soft breeze that only the ocean can produce and the freshest seafood imaginable for dinner each night, and suddenly, the Maldives is created.

This grouping of islands (about 1,200 in total) has been an overwhelmingly popular destination for both celebrities and those who have the money to afford a vacation there. In recent years, however, it hasn't just been for the wealthy - many are discovering the sheer bliss that comes with an island vacation unlike any other. Still wondering why it's such a dream destination? Here's why it will likely always be a favorite.

Life Is Simple

A common trend when visiting the Maldives is that it feels like time slows down here. Not only do travelers have the luxury to partake in activities at their own pace but if they choose not to, then they could simply spend an entire day lounging by the oceanside.

If they're staying at a resort, there's a number of different things they can choose from to pass the time, including:

  • Shopping in Malé
  • Scuba diving
  • Sightseeing tours
  • Beachcombing
  • Visiting the fish markets
  • Going on historic tours

With so many colorful reefs surrounding these islands, there's plenty of life to explore underwater as well as above the water. When staying at a luxury hut, guests may even have the chance to see some of the local marine life swimming around their accommodations as well!

A Life Of True Luxury

It comes at a cost but that cost is undeniably worth it. Resorts in the Maldives can come with anything from swimming pools within the ocean to resorts that are literally right on the beach, only steps away from the water. There, the lines are blurred between a hotel and the island itself, and, more often than not, visitors feel as though they're sleeping in the open with the ocean air to soothe them to sleep.

The Six Senses Laamu resort features 97 sustainable Maldive-style villas that are literally built to hover just over the water. Visitors have access to multiple beaches - as well as the mainland island - via wooden dock bridges that extend across the Indian Ocean. There, visitors can snorkel or surf, thanks to calm waters on one side of the island and breaking waves on the other. Although the island on which this resort is located is small, it's not lacking in scenery as much of it is covered with lush vegetation. There's just as much wildlife to see on a hike through the forest as there is during a snorkeling excursion offshore, and to say it's magical would be an understatement. While this is only one resort, a majority of the other Maldives resorts offer similar experiences.

The Food Is Unparalleled

The great thing about booking a resort in the Maldives is that guests will often get a meal credit. This is entirely worth it simply because of the fact that the food on these islands is second to none ; there are few islands that can compare with the dishes produced by chefs in this location. With a base of fresh, local ingredients and a blending of cuisine styles, the meals served at each resort will always vary based on the time of the year and the catch of the day.

Additionally, visitors have the option to explore the local Maldives food scene outside of the resort, which is highly recommended. A trip to the fish market will result in plenty of fresh, exotic seafood options, any of which can be cooked up to perfection. Visitors will find anything from fresh seafood curry to Maldivian lobster, which is often so fresh that's it's cooked in front of diners - there's a lot of pride when it comes to the food that comes straight from the ocean surrounding. Sweet dishes, such as Saagu Bondibai, make use of coconut milk and condensed milk to create a creamy, decadent bite that travelers should not miss on their Maldives trip.

While much of the cuisine is influenced by local ingredients, it's also influenced by the tropical island lifestyle that Maldivian locals so love. The island's fruits and vegetables are just as exotic as its flavors; something such as cassava can be cooked down and used in a dessert that's sweet and satisfying, while pumpkin and sweet potato are used in savory dishes.

The Maldives: A Paradise on Earth for Your Next Dream Vacation

Maldives

Imagine yourself on a secluded island surrounded by crystal-clear water, white sandy beaches, and swaying palm trees. The sound of waves crashing on the shore as you sip on a refreshing cocktail and feel the warm sun on your skin. This dreamy destination exists, and it’s called the Maldives.

The Maldives is a tropical paradise located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka and India . It is a nation made up of 26 atolls, each comprising hundreds of islands , only about 200 of which are inhabited. The Maldives is unique for its natural beauty and rich history and culture, influenced by its location along the ancient trading routes between East and West.

The Maldives: A Paradise on Earth for Your Next Dream Vacation

With its pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons, and exotic marine life, the Maldives is a dream destination for anyone looking to soak in the island vibes, take a dip in the warm waters, explore history and culture, and revel in the unspoiled beauty of an idyllic tropical haven.

When is the Best Time to Visit?

The best time to visit the Maldives is between November and April, during the dry season. During this time, the weather is generally dry, sunny, and warm, with low humidity and calm seas, making it ideal for water sports, diving, and beach activities . However, it is also the peak tourist season, and prices for flights and accommodations can be higher.

The rainy season in the Maldives typically runs from May to October, with a higher chance of rainfall, storms, and rough seas. It is generally not the best time to visit the Maldives as it can be very wet and humid.

Visiting during the off-season can offer some advantages, such as lower prices, fewer tourists, and excellent surfing conditions. So, the rainy season could be a good option if you don’t mind the rain and are looking for a less expensive and crowded time to visit .

Visa Requirements

Luckily, there are no visa requirements for tourists visiting the Maldives. No matter where you’re visiting from, all tourists will be issued a visa on arrival, free of charge. Tourists from most countries will be issued a 30-day visa, and tourists from Russia and India will be given a 90-day visa.

Even though you don’t need a visa to visit the Maldives, there are still rules and requirements for entry. These include having a valid passport with at least one month of validity, a confirmed booking for accommodation, and a bank statement proving you have enough funds to cover expenses for the duration of your stay.

The Maldives: A Paradise on Earth for Your Next Dream Vacation

Additionally, you may have to provide proof of purchase for your return flight home or an onward ticket to another destination. The Maldives also requires all tourists to complete a Traveller Declaration form within 96 hours of their arrival and departure from the country.

How to Get to the Maldives

The Maldives is accessible by air from various parts of the world. The main international airport is Velana International Airport, located on Hulhulé Island, near the capital city of Malé. Major airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Emirates operate direct flights to the Maldives from major cities around the world.

You can also opt for connecting flights, which may be cheaper than direct flights. You can fly to a nearby hub, such as Dubai or Abu Dhabi and then take a connecting flight to the Maldives.

Once you arrive at the airport, you can take a domestic flight, seaplane, or speedboat to reach your resort or destination. Domestic flights are the most common mode of transportation for travelling between islands, while seaplanes and speedboats are usually used to reach more remote resorts. Most resorts offer transfers from the airport to the resort as part of their package.

Which Currencies Can I Use in the Maldives?

The Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) is the official currency of the Maldives. However, most resorts and tourist establishments accept US dollars, euros, and British pounds. It’s recommended to bring and carry cash in US dollars if you can, as they are widely accepted and can be easily exchanged for Rufiyaa if needed. You can also use credit cards for larger purchases.

Accommodation Options in the Maldives

Accommodation in the Maldives is diverse and caters to a wide range of budgets and preferences. Various options are available on the islands, ranging from luxurious overwater villas to budget-friendly guesthouses.

One of the unique accommodation options in the Maldives is the overwater villa. These luxurious bungalows are built on stilts over the water and provide stunning views of the ocean. They typically feature private decks, direct access to the water, and glass floors, allowing guests to observe the marine life below.

If you prefer to stay on land, plenty of beachfront resorts offer a range of amenities, such as private pools, spas, and restaurants . Some of the more upscale resorts even offer private butlers and personalised services.

For those on a tighter budget, guesthouses are a great option. They are typically small, family-run establishments that offer basic amenities but are clean and comfortable. They provide a more authentic experience of Maldivian culture, as you get to stay with locals and experience their way of life.

Another option is to go camping on one of the uninhabited islands. It is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Maldives without breaking the bank. Some resorts also offer the option of glamping, which is a more luxurious version of camping.

My dream vacation.

Imagine a holiday where the sun shines on a sandy beach and the sea gently touches your feet. This is my dream holiday, a place where I can relax and play without any worries.

The Perfect Location

My ideal spot is a quiet island with clear blue waters and tall palm trees. I can build sandcastles, swim, and enjoy tasty fruits. It’s a peaceful place where I can read books and listen to the waves.

Fun Activities

I would love to snorkel and see colorful fish. In the evenings, I’d sit by a campfire, roast marshmallows, and watch the stars. This holiday would be a time to make happy memories.

250 Words Essay on My Dream Holiday

My perfect vacation.

Everyone loves a good holiday, a time to take a break from school or work and enjoy life. My dream holiday is simple but very special to me. It would be a trip to a place where the sun shines bright, the water is warm, and the sand feels soft under my feet. Yes, my ideal vacation is at the beach!

I would not just lie on the beach all day. I would also try new things like learning to surf or going snorkeling to see colorful fish. Maybe I would even go on a boat ride. Playing beach volleyball with new friends could be a great way to spend the afternoon.

Food and Family

No dream holiday is complete without delicious food. I imagine eating lots of fresh fruits and seafood. Sharing these meals with my family would make the holiday even better. We would have picnics on the beach and watch the sunset together.

Memories to Keep

At the end of my holiday, I would have a bag full of shells, a camera full of pictures, and a heart full of memories. This simple beach holiday might not seem like much, but for me, it would be perfect. It’s all about the joy, the peace, and the time spent with loved ones. That’s my dream holiday.

500 Words Essay on My Dream Holiday

Everyone loves holidays because they are times when we can relax, enjoy ourselves, and forget about our daily problems. My dream holiday is a perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and learning new things. In this essay, I will share with you what my dream holiday looks like.

The Perfect Destination

My dream holiday would be in a place where the sun is bright, the beaches are golden, and the sea is as blue as the sky. I imagine it to be on a tropical island with palm trees where I can hear the sound of waves and feel the soft sand under my feet. The weather would be just right, not too hot and not too cold, perfect for spending all day outside.

Learning New Things

Holidays are not just for fun; they are also for learning new things. On my dream holiday, I would learn to cook local dishes. I would visit the markets to see all the different fruits, vegetables, and fish that I have never seen before. I would ask the local people to teach me some words in their language too. That way, I can make new friends and learn about their way of life.

Relaxing Times

After a day full of activities, I would need some time to relax. I would lie in a hammock, read my favorite book, or just watch the sun go down. At night, I would have dinner under the stars and listen to the sound of the sea. I think it’s important to have quiet times like this to think and to rest.

My Vacation to Maldives

Last year during our summer holidays, my family went to Maldives for a vacation full of fun and enjoyment. Maldives is located near Sri Lanka. It is famous for its lagoons and white beaches. We flew with Lufthansa air lines till Kuaukapi in Sri Lanka and then took a bi-plane to Male International Airport. The bi-plane rider was a one-of-a-kind experience and I will never forget its wobbly balance.

The city of Male was the cleanest city ever. All the citizens had pledged never to litter and chucked their waste materials in a dustbin. Our resort was 50km off the shore of Male. It was called Taj Exotica. It was an island in itself. The white sandy beaches shone brightly like yellow diamonds. The island was surrounded by coral infested lagoons as far as the eye could see. We had to take a golf buggy ride to our cabin. During the trip we saw huge coconut trees. I could almost imagine them laughing at our meagre size. When we reached the other side of the island we were greeted by the most beautiful site ever. There were sixty to seventy dolphins jumping in and out of the water. I felt like taking some time out and thanking Mother Earth for this beautiful sight. Our cabin was built on a lagoon. The floor was made on a 30cm bullet proof glass and we could see the corals as if they were on an HD TV. The sun also shone with a lot of brilliance and brightness.

On the flight back to Mumbai, I recalled all that I had experienced in Maldives. The breath-taking feats of nature, the great hospitality and of course the dolphins!

My Dream Vacation Essay | Essay on My Perfect Dream Vacation, My Dream Trip

January 12, 2022 by Prasanna

My Dream Vacation Essay: In our daily lives, we are often trapped in routine ways of doing things. Almost all of us want to take a break and spend a vacation at a place away from cities, preferably close to nature. It’s an ideal place away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and the stress that goes along with it. The ideas of the dream vacation can vary from one person to another as per their choice and perception of a perfect place for vacation.

Some dream about relaxing on a warm, sunny beach within soft ocean breezes. Some think of viewing snow-capped mountains while enjoying a trek and some may look for forests and wildlife. Such dreams about vacation trips are related to many aspects of our lives and experiences. Vacation dreams represent the desire to go on a trip to get a much-needed break from the daily routine.

Long Essay on My Dream Vacation

The place for my dream vacation

Everyone has a dream place to spend a vacation with family and friends. Many of them are fortunate enough to get the chance to fulfill their desire. In this regard, I also have a dream of spending time in a place to get a feel about the environment, people, and culture of that place. I love mountains, especially the Himalayas. I would like to spend my dream vacation at a place where I can experience the beauty of the Himalayas and breathe some fresh air free from pollution while traveling along the tracks amidst flora and fauna.

For me, an ideal place for vacation is Pelling situated in Sikkim, India. It is a popular place for its natural scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage. From enjoying the beauty of mountains, lakes, and waterfalls to exploring the secrets of historical ruins, there are plenty of attractions that make it an ideal place for vacation. When I am looking for places to relax and rejuvenate, Pelling comes at top of my priority list.

Nature at its best

Pelling is a beautiful town located in the hills of the west district of Sikkim. The main attraction of the place is the breathtaking sight of the Kanchenjunga and the other peaks of the Himalayas. Pelling is my favorite hill station with a charm of its own. It offers a perfect break from a fanatic work schedule and makes me relax within the ocean of beauty and calmness. Pelling is a natural splendor with its magnificence and beauty.

The place enchants me with its fresh biospheres, great waterfalls, and shimmering lakes. I prefer spending my vacation in Pelling during the winters. This time of the year is a great season to witness the beauty of Pelling as the place remains covered with fresh snowfall which gives a feel like being in paradise. I highly recommend Pelling as a perfect holiday destination to relax with short tours in nature and the countryside.

The place and people

The view of the Kanchenjunga waterfall amidst the thick woody surroundings creates a sheer beauty. During the stay, a must-visit is the scenic Khecheopalri Lake, which has a lush backdrop of forest and hills. The lake holds special significance as it was known to be a wish-fulfilling lake. At the outskirts of Pelling, there is Darap Village with inhabitants from Limboo tribes. This place offers an opportunity to get acquainted with the original Sikkimese culture and the simple lifestyle of people. A walk through the village in the lap of nature will surely freshen up the body and mind. Staying in homestays will give a chance to enjoy the hospitality of local people along with getting a taste of authentic cuisines. All these are supplemented by nature exploration, bird-watching, hiking, and enjoying a unique experience of the village life here.

The Ancient and modern structures

A visit to the Rabdentse Ruins is another experience by itself. Spread across the hilltop, the ruins of the palace are surrounded by thick deciduous forests. A short walk to the top will bring a panoramic view of the valley and the mighty Kanchenjunga range. To spend some time with me, I must visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, a peaceful sanctum providing the perfect atmosphere for meditation and solitude. Another thrilling experience is walking on Pelling Skywalk which is a long bridge with glass floors.

Taste of local cuisines and culture

My special interest in spending vacation is exploring the taste of local cuisine. I know that the local cuisine of Sikkim is influenced by Tibetan and Nepali cuisine. I really can’t wait to have a taste of unique dishes like Thukpa, Momo, Churpi, Sel Roti, Kinema, Gundruk, and other delicious delicacies. A vacation is not complete without purchasing local products and mementos. Sikkim is famous for a variety of handicrafts and locally produced items that are unique to the place. I will find time to visit the local markets of Pelling and pick up handmade gifts and souvenirs like woven bamboo articles, colorful woolen scarves, Tibetan ornaments, and accessories. I will also fill my bag with spices like black cardamom, enjoy a cup of tea, and eat walnuts before going back to my city bidding goodbye to Pelling.

Short Essay on My Dream Vacation

Vacation gives a break

A vacation is a much-needed break from daily routine activities and a busy schedule. All of us want to escape for at least a few days from this mundane routine life and enjoy some quality time with family and near ones, in a relaxed mood. A vacation trip to a place of interest gives a soulful satisfaction and refreshes our minds. Everyone has some idea about what his/her dream vacation should be like. In most cases, it necessarily is a trip to a place away from the city which is unaffected by the hazards of day-to-day life. The main focus is to make the mind free from stress and the burden of work commitment. A vacation is a time to relax and rejuvenate after a stressful work schedule.

Being with the nature

Some may think of their dream vacations in luxurious holiday destinations with top-class facilities but I would prefer to spend my vacation in a place with optimum amenities and natural surroundings. It may be a hill station, forest, or seaside location with a touch of serenity and beauty. My dream vacation would be in the hilly regions of the Himalayas where I can enjoy the weather and the places while being in the midst of nature. The experience of breathing fresh air, looking at the clear sky, waking up by the chirping of birds, and exploring the flora and fauna will bring my dream into reality.

Maldives-My dream destination

As part of the wedding planners group to Maldives Yoshita Kapoor, luxury wedding decorator blogs about her experiences in the luxurious Anantara Kihavah, Villas in the Maldives

Everyone has a dream destination, that one place that pulls you towards it, you know you have to get there sometime in your lifetime - the ultimate destination in your bucket list.

Maldives has always been that dream destination for me. Having travelled quite vastly since a young age, I always kept Maldives aside because I knew that when I would do it, I wouldn't settle for anything less than an absolute luxurious trip! Life really does work in mysterious ways, and how I can say that is, when I got invited for the wedding fam trip to none other than the Anantara Resorts in Maldives. My dream had come true. Not only was I going to Maldives but I was going to be staying at some of the most sort after and luxurious properties, assessing it from a business point of view for weddings and special celebrations.

The organiser of the trip, www.weddingfables.com, from the same group as the www.luxepointindia.com, got some of the best in our wedding industry together and so, our beautiful journey began on a very comfortable flight to Colombo and then to Male via Sri Lankan Airlines. Landing in Male airport on that tiny little strip surrounded by different colours of blue was just the beginning of it all. The real excitement kicked in when we discovered that a seaplane was going to take us to the resort, I had never been on one!

The flight to Male in Sri Lankan Airlines was comfortable

The sights that we saw on our flight, were breath taking, turquoise and aqua gems amidst the deep blue sea in all shapes and sizes is the best way I can describe them. Seeing that view really did make me realise what a wonderful artist God really is. The 40 minute flight heard no conversation since everyone just wanted to take in as much of the view as they could, not realising that this was only the beginning.

Post the short flight we took a speed boat to the resort and boy! it was another feeling speeding through the crisp air and magnificent Indian Ocean, colour pallete decreasing in shades as we approached the beach and the beautifully set resort! With a beach on all sides of the island I couldn't help but start visualising how it was the perfect place to have special celebrations and weddings, we had all sides of the island to exploit in terms of venues with the sunrise or sunset.

The warm, personalised and traditional maldivian welcome with drums beating and exotic juice mocktails somehow connected me with the feel back home of our very own Indian hospitality. There was so much to take in. From the way we were escorted from Male airport till our private beach villas with our very own butlers, it was all too overwhelming.

The resort was built in complete harmony with the environment yet exuded a great sense of comfort and luxury. The villa equipped with a private pool and a dreamy bathroom with a waterbody and the waterworks dripped of pure luxury. Lunch was at the Sea restaurant which is built underwater, absolutely breathtaking - what an experience to be dining with the fishes! Our stay over the next few days comprised of some of the most wonderful  spa treatments and sumptuous meals. The hospitality and personal attention given to each guest was commendable. Not only were the resorts great for a celebration but celebrated life itself! From star gazing experiences to snorkeling sights that are most sought after in the world it was wonderful experience. Words cannot do justice to the beauty  that we experienced and no other place to make the most important and beautiful memories of your life cherishable, be it your wedding, anniversary or anything special! Thank you Anantara for making that dream destination nothing less than dream.

We built our vacation home in Tulum for $350,000. I'm glad we invested in the market early, but there are issues with basic infrastructure.

Ratchel Pinlac and her husband decided to build a vacation home in Tulum, Mexico.

The couple found a local real-estate agent and worked with a developer to customize their house.

They said that while parts were stressful, they're happy overall and hope to rent it through Airbnb.

This as-told-to essay is based on a transcribed conversation with Ratchel Pinlac, the CEO of a shapewear brand who lives in California, about building a vacation home in Tulum, Mexico. Business Insider verified the property financials with documentation. The following has been edited for length and clarity.

My husband and I first visited Tulum in 2018. We noticed that the hotels were expensive: You get a tiny room that doesn't have electricity because it's supposed to be rustic — but it costs $600 a night.

There was also a lot of construction happening, specifically near the beach. It was mostly condos, vacation homes, and developments. We got the vibe that Tulum was about to take off.

We found out they were building an international airport in Tulum and a train that goes from Tulum to Cancún in 30 minutes when usually it's a 2 1/2-hour drive.

We found a local realtor on our 2nd visit to Tulum

During our second vacation, in 2021, we began to think about buying a house in Tulum. Toward the end of the trip, we started looking at realtors in the area.

A lot was coming to Tulum, and we saw an economic opportunity to build our holiday home there cheaply and to be able to rent it out for a high price.

The project cost about $350,000, which we paid for using our savings from years of work.

We found a local realtor with good reviews and met up with him while still on our trip. He took us to several developments being built or selling their final units. We liked the idea of building something from scratch so we could add customizations.

The realtor also showed us a website where developers can post projects.

One developer was building four homes, and he was flexible about customizing the building, which appealed to us. We showed him to the realtor, who validated that the builder was established in Tulum and that the project was legitimate.

We loved being able to customize our home

The developer had a plot of land in Region 15 — a neighborhood between downtown and the beach zone — and had already carved out what size of home would be on each plot.

There were four houses, and the house design was based on square footage. It would be a 2,600-square-foot home with three stories, three bedrooms, and two pools. He already had an initial design, and we just heavily customized the house to fit what we wanted.

I wanted an infinity-type pool because I thought it would be Instagrammable. I also wanted arches and big windows. I don't have a design background; we did it all through Google Slides.

They said it would take a year, and it ended up taking about a year and a half. There was a lot of back-and-forth, but overall it was a fairly smooth process.

We visited twice while it was being built to check the progress. As we're both self-employed business owners, it was easy for us to travel and keep an eye on the development.

Pros and cons of building a house in Tulum

We got into the Tulum market early. It hasn't fully developed yet, so there were a lot of unofficial extras with the builders. For example, they added a custom bathtub, made the pool bigger, and made the windows a lot bigger, all without extra fees. I think when people are just starting their business like these developers are, they're loose in that way.

The language barrier was stressful. My husband speaks Spanish, which made it easier, but he even struggled to understand what the developers told us. Luckily, our realtor, who was bilingual, managed the communication and held the builders accountable.

Certain things got lost in translation. For example, we picked a finish for the walls that they also put on the floor, so we had to get them to try to sand it down because it made the floor look dirty. But overall, we were super happy.

The downside of building a holiday home in Tulum is that there is so much construction around it because it's a developing area.

We want to Airbnb the property when we're not there, and we haven't been able to rent it out to its maximum potential. Airbnb guests complained about the noise and the drilling, so we're holding off on promoting it. Hopefully all the building will settle down in a year.

As an investor who owns a place, I want Tulum to get more developed so we can make the money back. I think it's growing pretty quickly. But there are still issues with basic infrastructure. For example, the power keeps going out across the area. The internet is a little slow. It's a five-minute drive from the nearest supermarket, but it's not walkable.

With Tulum, you can keep that rustic feel in the jungle, even if it's developed. But with people coming from Canada, the UK, and the US, you need decent internet.

If you're building in Tulum, find a local realtor and support the local businesses

We've spoken to different locals about the developments, and they say they like the tourists because of the economic value they bring.

Many people on the outside have commented things like, "Oh, you're colonizing." But more development and tourism helps the local economy. For example, restaurants are a lot busier.

We lean on the local people to help with property management. The contractors and housekeepers are local people. We recommend local places to eat to Airbnb guests rather than sending them to the hotel zone.

In Mexico, because a lot of the builders also don't speak English, you ideally want a realtor that speaks Spanish and English. I don't think we would have done it had we not had a realtor.

My advice to people considering building a holiday home in Tulum is to find a reputable real-estate agent. You have to trust that person and look at their credentials, because you can easily get duped and get your money taken.

We paid mostly in cash, wiring the money over, so getting scammed was a bit of a concern. We'd chosen a reputable builder and realtor, so these were really minor worries.

The realtor also sticks up for you during the building process. If I told him it wasn't what we wanted, he'd go to bat for us.

Critic’s Notebook

I ❤️ a Hate-Watch. Don’t You?

TV shows that are expensively made yet irritating to sit through — for some reason, I can’t get enough of them. Why do so many of us watch things we think are bad?

When it premiered in 2017, I quite liked “The Bold Type,” a television series about three 20-something women working at a fictional magazine called Scarlet. Although the show could tend toward after-school special, with the characters learning important lessons about speaking your truth, facing your sexuality or getting regular gynecological examinations, its heartwarming conventions — young women living their editorial dreams in the big city — worked their magic on me.

My love began to curdle during the third season. That’s when a new guy is brought into the office to spearhead Scarlet’s weirdly late foray into online publishing (it was set roughly in 2019). For reasons I couldn’t fathom, he referred to the magazine’s website as “The Dot Com.” Over and over and over again.

To someone who’s spent her career in digital media, this was a bridge too far. It suggested that the show’s writers hadn’t ever worked in this world, hadn’t talked to anyone who did, maybe had never read a magazine. My annoyance grew in the fourth season, as the star columnist (a fount of bad ideas) got “her own vertical,” by which the show meant “a blog.” What was going on?

I found myself declaiming to friends and colleagues about how deranged this turn of events was. I kept watching, but only to get annoyed at the things that I used to excuse as creative license: plot holes, improbable couplings, messed-up New York City geography. What I’d once enjoyed, I now hate-watched.

Hate-watching is a weird thing. There is so much to see, do, hear, read: Why spend precious time, in an age of nearly infinite media, plopped in front of a bad show to pick it apart? It’s like gorging yourself on a disgusting meal not because you’re hungry, but because you want to gripe about it later. Or taking a vacation with someone you find excruciating, not because you don’t have any actual friends, but because you want to bellyache afterward about all the stupid things they said and did.

Yet hate-watching is now part of the cultural conversation and arguably contemporary life. Chalk it up to morbid curiosity: We start watching a show because it looks appealing, but we keep watching because we want to complain about it at happy hour. It’s fun to be the person who describes a particularly terrible story arc or performance to our friends’ disbelief. Besides, it’s better than whatever is on the news.
