BAYOT, PATRICK GIO A., DILAO, CECILIO A. and PANLILIO, WILSON M. Factors influencing the career selection of Criminology students in selected school In Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2018, Adviser: Dr, Marissa C. Lontoc. The study was conducted from October 2017 to April 2018. Specifically, the study aimed to: identify the initial career thoughts of Criminology students from selected school in Cavite; measure the level of factors that influence the career selection of students in terms of family influence, personal influence and social influence, determine the career selection of selected Criminology students in terms of law enforcement and investigation, courts and law, corrections, and community service, research, planning and teaching, and others; identify the significant difference of the initial career thoughts and career selection of the selected Criminology students; and identify the significant relationship of the level of influence and career selection of selected Criminology student. Quantitative survey research method was used in the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to identify the total participants. The total participants were 399 students from different schools who participated in the study. A self-made survey questionnaire served as the main gathering tool of this study. The result of data gathered was used as basis for the interpretation and tabulation to determine the initial career thoughts and career of selected criminology students. The result shows that 77.7 percent or 310 of the participants chose that their initial career in Criminology is in Law Enforcement and Investigation. Followed by Community Service with 11.3 percent or 45 participants, Courts and law with 6.8 percent or 27 participants, Research, Planning and Teaching with 2.8 percent or 11 participants, Correction with 1.0 percent or 4 participants. Others with .5 percent or 2 participants. Based on the result, family influence got least among the influential factors and interpreted as less influential factor, wherein most of the time the presence of peers, friends and professors in the children's experiences is present compared to the parents. Thus personal influence got the highest among influential factors and this was interpreted as more influential, considering the eagerness of the students to follow their own decision based on their own abilities. Social influence got the average among the influential factors and this was interpreted as more influential, whereas successful persons in their environment may influence the students to pursue their career by inspiring them, The finding implied that the family, personality and society were influential to the career selection of students but somehow personality got the highest mean among the factors influencing their career selection. But in career selection, the result shows that out of 399 participants, 72.2 percent or 288 of the participants selected Law Enforcement and Investigation, followed by, Courts and law with 12,5 percent or 50 participants. 8.5 percent or 34 participants select Community Service. 3.8 percent or 15 participants select Research, Planning and Teaching. Correction with 2.0 percent or 8 participants, and 1.0 percent or 4 participants for others. Therefore, the hypotheses were accepted, There is no significant difference between the initial career thoughts and career selection of the selected Criminology students in Cavite, and there is no significant relationship between the level of influence and career selection of BS Criminology student. Based on the findings, there is a significant difference between initial career thoughts and career selection of selected Criminology students. They also conclude that there is no significant relationship between level of influence and career selection of selected Criminology students. Also, recommend the result of the study to help various people to offer encouragement for formal work place and explore the impact of different factors that influence their career selection.

Gender, numbers and beyond: The case of criminology program in DOrSU, City of Mati, Philippines

Profile image of Jhonnel Villegas

2022, Davao Research Journal

Access to and success in higher education is shaped by various factors, including, but are not limited to, gender, gendered identities, and gender-related subjectivities. While there has been rich literature in gender-higher education nexus, the utilization of gender analysis in specific gender-stereotyped degree programs such as Criminology, although widely offered in the entire country, remains understudied. Recognizing the impressive progress of enterprising and mainstreaming GAD norms in the Philippines compared to its peers in Asia, there remains a need to understand how gender sets in motion beyond rhetoric and how it entangles everyday practices. This study attempts to interrogate the Criminology program's temporal development and social determinants from the lenses of gender through trend analysis and in-depth interview methods. We found that Criminology in DOrSU is significantly male-dominated since the program commenced operations in 2009. Although unsurprising, it is worth noting that females record a higher survival rate than males. The latent gender issues and coping strategies contributing to the program's notable trend were also uncovered, providing a more comprehensive understanding of females and other non-masculine genders' narrowed access to the program. To tighten the existing gender gap in Criminology, we recommend a policy reform that encourages gender-inclusive opportunities.

Gender disaggregated data captures the real need, contribution and benefits of the agency’s clienteles. It improves project effectiveness and sustainability. Hence, the study explored to determine the gender disaggregated data of Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) graduate students. A quantitative research method was used and the respondents were the graduate students enrolled in academic year 2017-2018. A structured survey questionnaire adapted from the Commission on Audit was also employed. Gender roles along economic empowerment, social development rights and protection, access to security, justice and peace, environmental climate change and gender responsive governance were assessed to come up with a Gender and Development (GAD) agenda for graduate students and inputs to GAD Plan and Budget client-focused activities, also GAD policies were formulated to ensure the quality of service to the clienteles.

Abst ract- In this article, we argue that criminology is in need of a meta-theory that allows for a more complete treatment of the gender-crime relationship. We suggest that one such metatheory is Integral Theory. Integral Theory challenges disciplinary myopia and opens space for a more complete treatment of complex constructs such as gender. We note that criminology would benefit from an ontological and epistemological pluralismthat accommodates the wide range of existing gender theories and recognizes the value of multiple methods designed to test those theories. These arguments are supported via an analysis of recent research on the gender-crime relationship.

The Emerald Handbook of Feminism, Criminology and Social Change

Violence against women (VAW) has become a hot topic and a serious social problem. Consequently, governments together with non-government organizations implement interventions to curb its prevalence. One of the existing proactive programs against VAW is the gender sensitivity program that attempts to change men's traditional gender role attitudes. By using data from a randomized survey of male public high school and college students, as well as male college faculty and staff members in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines, the researchers attempted to discover whether men, who adhered to traditional gender role attitudes, committed more VAW perpetration than their counterparts. Using socio-demographic factors as control variables, binary logistic regressions revealed that adherence to traditional gender role attitudes had no significant effect on VAW perpetration among male college students and male college faculty and staff members. However, male high school students who adhered to traditional gender role attitudes committed lesser violence than their counterparts. Further, the researchers discovered that the education factor determined both VAW perpetration and traditional gender role attitudes; that is, men who had high educational attainment adhered less to traditional gender role attitudes and committed less violence towards women. These results are discussed within the context of policy and theoretical issues surrounding acts of violence against women. (Published in PRISM 2014 Vol. 19 (1), 9-22)
