PhD Students (f/m/d) | Genome Science

Job Code: 38-24

The  International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Genome Science  is looking for  PhD Students (f/m/d).

The IMPRS for Genome Science is a graduate program established as a cooperation between the University of Göttingen and several other research institutions at the Göttingen Campus, including the Max Planck Institutes.

Our research school aims at qualifying young scientists at the interface between experimental and theoretical disciplines in genome science. The students will be able to work in different fields of research, including experimental disciplines like genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioimaging as well as theoretical disciplines such as stochastics, bioinformatics, theoretical physics, and computational biology. Positions offered are to pursue Ph.D. projects in the areas of the life and computational sciences or related fields.

Requirements

Candidates typically hold an outstanding Master's (or equivalent) degree in the experimental life sciences (wet lab) or computational/mathematical/biophysical sciences, and have an interest in interdisciplinary projects. Criteria for admission include academic skills and experience, motivation and commitment, communication skills, knowledge of the English language, and creativity.

Application process

Applications can only be submitted online  until January 14, 2025 via the IMPRS website .

Applicants have to upload pdf-files of their CV and academic records. They will be asked to provide contact information from two referees familiar with the work of the applicant.

The international and interdisciplinary "Ph.D. Program Medical Research in Genomic and Molecular Medicine – Personalized Approaches to Childhood Health" is part of the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital and the Munich Medical Research School. It is primarily open to assistant physicians specializing in pediatrics but also to candidates from other disciplines (medicine, natural sciences, life sciences). The Ph.D. program offers research and qualification opportunities in the fields of genomics, epigenetics, molecular, cell and developmental biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and immunology, with the focus on the normal and pathological development of the child. Doctoral candidates are in close contact with a thesis advisory committee and together with the committee they define their individual research goals. This ensures that the needs of each Ph.D. candidate are met on their way obtaining the degree.

PhD projects 2025

PhD projects 2025

Many of our PIs are recruiting doctoral candidates in this year's application round. Below you can find their project proposals or research descriptions. Get inspired by these to draft the research proposal for your application. Your research proposal should be longer than the summary provided here (approximately 2-3 pages) and should show some of your own input, including a title, a short background of the topic, a research question, proposed methods and references. Moreover, we encourage you to explain how you plan to include both sides of the experimental-theoretical spectrum in your project. For instance, how could laboratory experiments help support the conclusions of your bioinformatics project? Which bioinformatics tools do you plan to include in your wet laboratory project?
