Guide: How to Create an Amazing Management Essay

By: Henrique Bertulino

Guide: How to Create an Amazing Management Essay

A management essay is not unlike any other academic article. As with any academic assignment, the essay's primary purpose is to assess students' knowledge in the subject "Management." The main difference lies in understanding whether a student has some practical skills versus the vast majority of academic assignments that first assess theoretical knowledge.

What Does a Management Essay Mean?

Example: duties of corporate managers, example: human resource management, example: knowledge management, example: leadership and management, example: mba in global management, example: network management, example: organizational behaviour, example: performance management, example: real estate risk management, example: risk management, example: strategic management, models of management, five components of management, four processes of management.

To create this essay, follow the structure:

  • The essay introduction , which explains the relevance of the topic. Why is this topic exciting and requires special consideration?
  • A thesis is a statement within the framework of the topic, which would be formulated by you. The thesis, not the topic, is your essay's central idea, which you have to justify.
  • Arguments. There must be at least three of them. Each argument should support your thesis from different sides. Each argument should be self-contained and complete.
  • Conclusion. Here you should evaluate the potential of the topic. Perhaps there are other points of view? Do I need to raise it in the future? In conclusion, there is a return to the introduction and a search for ways for a possible discussion.

A management essay is a small piece of work written by a given structure and in strict accordance with a management program . The essay reflects the author's subjective point of view, based on the analysis of theoretical and analytical materials.

Some students still think that governance is research in which only executives or true management professionals can benefit, but governance is a skill that everyone uses every day. Organization and planning are essential for any corporation. However, they can come in handy in our day to day interactions with people and even when planning and evaluating the various tasks we face.

In a real business environment, any employee with governance skills becomes a precious asset. Even so, many students mistakenly believe that reading a book or two on the subject will teach them everything they need to know about governance. In practice, this is a skill that can only be learned outside the university. The good news is that having a strong theoretical background helps a lot in a real professional environment. And writing management essays is one of the surest ways to gain much-needed knowledge.

Interesting Management Essay Topics

Management is needed to define and set goals, achieve them with people and resources, coordination, and control. Without a competent governance system or self-organization, effective economic activity in any area is impossible: business classes , public administration, non-commercial projects. If you are at the Faculty of Management, then you need to consider topics from experts:

  • The conceptual evolution of management.
  • Labor motivation in modern conditions.
  • A psychological portrait of personality. Assessment of the manager's business qualities.
  • Influence of information technology on the success of the firm.
  • Power and leadership: essence and meaning.
  • The nature of work and requirements for the professional competence of managers.
  • Business plan of the company: essence, structure, characteristics of the main sections.
  • Limitations of the manager's effectiveness and their overcoming.
  • The central dilemma of the American manager: revitalization of people and the importance of ideas.
  • The state of the US economy: does the manager have maneuver?

Now that you have an idea of what to write about, consider a business paper template .

Legal entities are corporate clients with whom representatives of any business want to cooperate. A corporate account manager usually contacts them. Many commercial organizations build their business precisely on such cooperation.

The main task of a modern company is to attract and retain a corporate client. Certain programs and techniques are implemented, employees are introduced to the staff, whose duties include attracting profitable partners and interacting with them. This position is called a corporate account manager.

Based on the results of psychological observations and surveys, I determined the following typology of managers:

  • Melancholic. This type of manager is slow. His communication style is impassive and apathetic, which gradually arouses the client's dissatisfaction and pushes them to an early conclusion of the negotiations.
  • Erudite. Managers of this type inspire buyers' confidence since they can answer all their questions, draw many analogies, and quickly navigate the situation.
  • Executor. The creative approach is not his element. A manager of this type will act strictly "by the instructions."

I can conclude that no company can exist without corporate managers. Such people must have the ability to communicate and attract customers.

The leaders of most organizations focus on production management, finance, marketing. At that time, human resources continue to be the weakest link in the overall governance system. I want to prove that the importance of human resource governance should come first.

First, human resource management directly affects a company's capitalization. The share of intangible assets in the total assets of the organization is growing.

Secondly, as the organization's most important internal competence, human resource governance ensures leadership in the competitive struggle. Since it is one of the most important competitive advantages of the organization, it becomes a guarantee of its success and survival in the face of increased competition.

Thirdly, according to several experts, human resource governance allows companies to move from the number of goods successfully working to the number of leaders in a certain market segment.

As you can see, we cannot do without human resource management. I believe that every company should take care of this.

Knowledge management is a concept that emerged about two decades ago, sometime in the 1990s. Perhaps one can immediately define the term "knowledge management" - it is the organization and systematization of information and knowledge in a company.

What does a knowledge management system consist of? The obvious answer is from information and data available to all organization members through special portals and content governance systems. A content governance system is the most evident and operational component of a knowledge governance system.

Does knowledge governance have a future? Of course. Let's take the bibliometric analysis results: we count the number of articles in business literature that describe certain business concepts. Most of these concepts are gaining popularity quickly, reaching their peak in about five years, and then their performance almost as rapidly falling. Knowledge management is not just a modern trend. This concept has a future.

There are too many managers globally, and also few leaders are ready to prove themselves. A leader is needed wherever you need to initiate and manage change. Where it is necessary to maintain an established order of things, you can limit yourself to management.

An effective leader does the right thing and focuses on the top priorities. It creates an inspiring vision for the future and sets a strategic direction. The leader empowers employees, motivates them, and energizes them.

An effective manager performs the tasks assigned to him, organizes the work, and does things right, offers a market research proposal for a new product. As a manager, you plan, give directions, manage work, measure performance, and control people and processes.

In terms of the spectrum of actions, management is broader than leadership. The leader deals mainly with the behavioral aspects. The manager deals with both behavioral and non-behavioral. I believe that a person working in a large company should be a leader and a manager at the same time. After all, if a person has such skills, then the company's growth will increase significantly.

Global management is a relatively new phenomenon resulting from globalization's rapidly developing process in the objective strengthening of international economic, political, scientific, technical, and spiritual and cultural ties. Global governance emerged due to the transformation of international relations and the functional necessity of managing the spontaneous globalization processes.

Global management is a system of institutions, principles, standards, political, legal, and moral norms. With the help of which relations and processes of the global, transnational level are regulated. The first who gave global governance an academic sound was J. Rosenau, an American specialist in international relations, a political science professor at George Washington University. He immediately separated the concept of global governance from the UN system. He presented global governance as something more than formal institutions and organizations through which international affairs governance is carried out through the UN system and its bodies.

Thanks to this system, international organizations increase their global governance participation with limited political authority. The development of such a system should be at a high level, and each country should contribute.

Even a five-minute network downtime can lead to significant losses. Therefore, to prevent unforeseen situations, it is necessary to apply an integrated and structured approach to network management, including, among other things, the implementation of proactive actions.

Managing a computer network is an integral and, in many cases, the primary responsibility of a network engineer or administrator. At first glance, what is challenging about this work? From an ordinary employee's perspective, it looks like this: after receiving a message from network users about certain malfunctions, the network engineer eliminates them. Such work can be characterized as reactive support.

Unfortunately, a reactive approach is often insufficient for servicing an extensive network. At some point, the number of error messages starts to increase like an avalanche, which can cause the failure of critical network services.

Since the computer network is a business-critical tool for any modern enterprise, even a five-minute network downtime can lead to significant losses. Therefore, the network engineer must exclude the possibility of such situations occurring.

Organizational behavior manifests itself in a social, technological, and ecological environment, its activities, relationships with other organizations, and individuals. The science of organizational behavior provides a set of tools used at various levels of analysis. For example, it allows managers to analyze individuals 'behavior in an organization and understand interpersonal relations problems in two individuals' interactions.

Also, knowledge of organizational behavior is instrumental in examining the dynamics of relationships within small groups. In situations where it is necessary to coordinate two or more groups' efforts, managers are interested in emerging intergroup relationships.

Finally, organizations can be viewed and managed as holistic systems, which are formed by intra-organizational relationships.

Organizational behavior as science grew out of behaviorism - a direction in psychology that studies the experimental behavioral responses of a person's mental organization to external stimuli. I believe that every manager should study this direction for his development.

Company performance management is a list of processes that help develop and implement a business strategy, analyze processes, track results, make informed decisions, and draw the right conclusions. These processes' main task is to control employees' work so that individual contribution helps in achieving the company's overall goals.

Individual efforts must be consistent with the organization's overall objectives: you need to link individual activity with a common business goal, establish performance metrics, and help employees understand how well they perform. For this, tools and incentives are used, such as rewards, bonus and rating systems, personal growth plans, and key indicators discussion.

Analytical tools such as time tracking, productivity analysis, and key metrics are also used to achieve this goal. I believe that the company's efficiency should be in every company because teamwork will not work without this.

Among the elements of the market economy, real estate occupies a special place, which acts as a means of production and an item or object of consumption. Real estate acts as the basis of personal existence for citizens. It serves as the basis for economic activity and the development of enterprises and organizations of all ownership forms.

Any enterprise bears the risks associated with its production, commercial, and other activities. Any entrepreneur is responsible for the consequences of governance decisions. The risk factor forces the entrepreneur to save financial and material resources, to pay special attention to the calculations of the effectiveness of new projects and commercial transactions.

Risk can be managed. Various measures can predict a risk event's occurrence to a certain extent and take steps to reduce the degree of risk. The classification of risk largely determines the effectiveness of the organization of risk governance.

Ultimately, all types of risks in one way or another have a financial dimension, either increasing the costs of a project or transaction, or reducing income, or leading to exceeding the planned investment timeframe, or, in the extreme case, to the loss of not only income but also the capital.

When starting a new business or project, it is necessary to prepare for force majeure situations. Competent risk management methods will help minimize losses and not miss out on profits even in a critical situation. Therefore, competent risk governance in the financial sector is worth its weight in gold.

To manage risks, they are first identified and measured. For each organization, the set of inherent threats differs depending on the type of activity, the environment. It is necessary to identify them, analyze them, and select suitable methods of dealing with them.

A competently built risk management system will allow you to extract benefits for the enterprise from any threat and adequately cope with crises. The risk manager must select suitable hazard governance techniques and make quick, non-standard, but strategically sound decisions.

Strategic management is a company's series of actions to achieve long-term goals that allow a business to survive in competition and thrive in any external environment. The more unstable the conditions in this environment, the more the company needs a clear strategy.

The strategic management system includes developing the company's mission and goals and actions to achieve them. To develop an effective corporate strategy - the company's governance needs to answer three key questions: What is its current situation, and what opportunities and resources does it have? Where are you planning to move to in the future? How can we achieve these goals?

As you can see, strategic management is a powerful governance system and a priority task for the company's governance team. Learning its foundations allows the manager to develop the so-called "helicopter view" thinking. A manager who possesses strategic governance tools can actively shape its future, so he will always value it.

What Management Means: Simple And Understandable

Management is the process of managing an organization or part of it, and the people involved in this process - managers. Management is a social science that includes psychological and economic aspects, so a talented manager knows how to outwit a competitor in harsh market conditions.

how to write business management essay

Topics for essays on business management can cover a wide spectrum. You should have a clear understanding of your topic and what it demands. Ask your professor what they expect from you if you are unable to understand your topic. You can also discuss with your friends and develop a better grasp on what you should write.

Additionally, note down any instruction and business essay format your teacher gives. You will need to follow them closely if you want to write a good essay. Also, ask how many words your professor is expecting from your assignment.

2. Research Heavily

The next thing to do is to research for the topic you got. You will have to find materials and resources to build up and write your essay. Plus, you will need evidence to support your arguments and prove your point. You can try the following methods to do your research.

Review Class Materials

Your business management essay topic will relate to what you learn in your class. So, the best place to start is the materials provided by your college and professors. Collect all the material you think you will need and sort them accordingly.

You can also ask your friends to send you resources that you may have missed in class.

Books can be a great place to expand your research. You can use books you got or rent more from the library. However, choose books that are relevant to your topic.

Research on the Internet

Internet is a perfect place to gather the materials and resources you need. A simple Google search can lead you to the appropriate resources you need to write your business essay. You can look for.

  • Journals and studies that relate to your topic
  • Publications from leading media houses
  • Essays from authoritative sources
  • News articles and releases

Bookmark or download the materials from the internet for easy access.

3. Brainstorm like Crazy

Now you will have to come up with what you want to write in your essay. You will have to prove your thesis or create an argument to support or disprove your topic. So, you should have an idea of what to include in your management essay.

Read the materials you collected to form an idea of what to write. Look for resources that support or provide evidence to your arguments and logic. You can also consult with your professor if it is possible to do so.

Create an Outline

Having a fixed structure of what to write is recommended even for expert writers. It helps you stay in line and not digress from your topic. Your research and brainstorming will help you develop an outline for business essay writing.  Let us say your topic is “how to boost employee motivation.” So, your outline can look something like.

a. Introduction

Talk about how the loss of motivation can hamper the productivity and profitability of the business. (You can include statistics to prove your point)

b. Main Body

You can now start with ways to boost employee motivation.

  • Make every employee feel valued
  • Introduce incentives schemes to reward good performance
  • Involve employees in decision-making
  • Help employees maintain work-life balance
  • Set realistic goals and show appreciation for good work

c. Conclusion

Sum up your points and conclude with your take on the topic.

Now, you can use your outline to write your essay and cover all points. You can also divide the total word count and dedicate a limit for each section. For example, let us say you need to write a 500-word essay.

So, your introduction can cover 100 words. You can then divide 350 words between the five ways to boost employee motivation. The remaining 50 words will be sufficient for writing your conclusion.

4. Read Business Essay Examples

You will find ample examples on the internet to help you out. Pick out a good one and see what a good essay entails. You should check out how the author introduces the arguments and provides evidence. Plus, also focus on how essays use sources to back up facts and opinions.

Your essay will most probably need to follow a certain format. It can be APA, MLA, Harvard, or something else your college follows. You will have to include citations and also provide a bibliography.

Keep an eye for things you need to implement for your assignment. You can learn a lot just by going over examples of professionally-written essays.

5. Start Your Writing

By now, you are familiar with writing essays for your business management course. You also have your outline and the resources you need. So, it is time to start typing your business essay.

You should also

  • Check the flow of your ideas

Moreover, you should strive to ensure that the tone of your paper is formal and on point. Most management essay readers are elites and researchers seeking the underlying idea in every statement.

Business Management Essay Structure

Determining the structure of the essay is crucial before embarking on the writing process. Most management and academic writing present the structure to include the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. The introduction is the most vital part of the essay as it sets the pace for both you as the writer of a management essay, as well as the reader. The introduction is used to captivate the attention of the reader, thus it should be as interesting as possible. The introduction contains the synopsis of the management essay, and introduces various theoretical frameworks. The last part of the introduction should have a thesis statement. A thesis is a statement of claim made by an essay writer. The thesis statement offers the threshold on which the writer measures all other arguments and claims in the essay. A thesis statement provides the direction and tone of the essay hence should be constructed rationally.

The introduction is followed by the body of the essay. This is the section where you present various claims, arguments, positions and knowledge. All the data collected are analyzed and their deductions presented for analysis. The body of a management essay should be able to connect past knowledge with current knowledge. For instance, when writing about organizational behavior, you should connect current organizational behaviors rampant in existing businesses and connect to classical management trends.

It is also crucial to relate organizational practices to outside factors. Some organizations behave the way they do because of external elements like government policies and competition. The body of a management essay provides an explanation of the points introduced at the introduction stage and should reflect a clear flow. You should present your points in a systematic pattern of presenting your points from the strongest to the least strong. Before writing the essay, you should create an outline of the main points as this will facilitate a systematic flow.

Highlighting the points will also ensure that you maintain your word count. It is always important to adhere to typographical and other guidelines provided by your university lecturer. This will help secure marks lost through simple mistakes. Another important reason for highlighting the main points before embarking on the real writing process is to ensure that the essay observe consistency. A good management essay should stick to explaining and developing specific points of view rather than offering a discussion of every management aspect. Showing a clear connection of the arguments with the topic throughout the research is crucial.

The body should offer an analysis of data and measure them with respect to the thesis statement. Usually, data is collected with the objective of determining the validity of the thesis statement. After presenting an in depth argument in the body section, the next important step after the body is the conclusion. This stage is crucial as it consolidates what has already been debated. The tone of the conclusion is vital as it offers more persuasion for your readers. This section should not introduce new knowledge but should just reinforce what has already been discussed. The concluding stage presents the end of the paper and should offer an ending tune.

How To Write Essay on Management?

essay on management

Contrary to the common stereotypical belief that management is a skill that is needed by leaders only, everyone is in need of it. Management concepts such as organizing, coordinating, and planning are essential within the confines of an organization. It is hence fitting for all employees to equip themselves with management skills regardless of the position they holds. In theory, management skills might seem easy and management students are often at the fault for thinking that they can use books to master the different concepts involved. However, as a skill, management is developed outside the confines of a classroom and often requires numerous practical scenarios for one to comprehend its importance. Interpersonal relations, goal-setting, as well as achievement of common goals and targets, are all dependent on management. It is thus an important ingredient when talking about success and high-profit margins.

1. How to write an essay on management?

Management essay writing is a key test that instructors use to assess their students. However, unlike other tests and essays, management essays seek to determine whether students are conversant with some of the concepts and practical skills within the management course. Management papers seek more than just how much students can remember and calls for critical thinking. They seek to test how much information students can execute or apply when faced with different management issues. Many college essays often test students’ capability to discern what the instructor is asking of them and then apply the standard methods to answer. Conversely, management papers do ask of these things but also tend to go further and seek to understand a student’s application skills as well as their ability to execute practically what they learned in theory. An essay on management can be difficult to handle if a student is used to straightforward questions and book-like answers. Memorization is important when learning but when one is handling papers on management, memorization, as well as deep comprehension of concepts, is essential.

2. Management essay structure

2.1 outline.

All essays are structured and thus need a format to act as a guide to writers. Management essays use the standard essay format, that is, they have an introduction with a thesis statement, a body that has supporting arguments, and finally, a conclusion that reiterates the writer’s stance or argument. Structuring a management essay outline is thus a simple task, and that needs to be adhered to at all times. If an essay lacks one of the above parts, it is hence termed incomplete, and a student can get penalized or be asked to redo the work.

Below is an example of a universal outline for a management essay that can be of help to students:

2.1.1 Introduction

  • Introduce the topic selected or understudy.
  •  A brief discussion of the topic.
  • The article’s main argument or thesis statement declares the writer’s stance.
  • Discussion of the first argument.
  • Supporting argument or statement or example.

2.1.3 Conclusion

  • Reiteration of the thesis argument or statement.
  • A summary of the main arguments.

3. Tips on writing

3.1 introductory paragraph.

Writing an introduction for a management essay can be a problem for some students. The above is especially true for students who are used to memorizing answers and never consider the option of gaining a deeper comprehension of the concepts being taught. The basic tips for writing a management essay begin with the introduction. How one starts the essay says a lot about their mastery of the language and the extent of the imagination. It is hence essential to have a good introduction that will entice the readers.

In the introduction, a writer is expected to provide a brief overview of the topic at hand. Regardless of the topic chosen, the writer is expected to either develop an argument and support it or provide knowledge on some concepts that are prevalent in society. Readers lose interest fast and it is thus essential to outline the paper’s main argument in the introduction. An introduction should help arouse a reader’s interest and ensure that they are fascinated enough to want to read the whole essay.

3.2 Body Paragraphs

The body paragraphs of a management essay support the writer’s argument or provide more information on the knowledge being discussed. Like other essays, management essay paragraphs often have five to six sentences while the number of paragraphs included is dependent on the task assigned. A look at many management writing guides will reveal that each paragraph often has its point or argument. Topic sentences are indeed essential here, and each needs to stand out and have supporting sentences that reinforce its main point. The use of transition words is also encouraged, but writers need to be wary of the number they include in their essays.

3.3 Concluding Paragraph

How conclude a management essay is not as hard as starting. Like all other essays, the conclusion restates the thesis statement and the main arguments. Therefore, a management essay conclusion should not be a problem, but all the above is dependent on how much research one did. While some of the parts discussed might seem easy when reading the tips, if thorough research is not done on a topic, the result will indeed be disastrous.

4. Sources for Essay Choice

Online sources where students can find good essays exist but it is essential to enquire about the reliability of the sources first. Apart from the online sources, one can also analyze the various management issues in society today and easily get an essay. Examples of some sources include:

–    http://openvocabs.org/top-five-interesting-management-essay-research-paper-topics

5. Finalizing Essay

When reviewing the tips for management essay writing, two things will always emerge. They include essay revision and proofreading. Once the writer is through with their essay, it is important first to give it to close friends or family members who can help one to identify some of the mistakes and misconceptions within the paper. Essay revision is of the essence and helps writers to submit essays that are factual and free of obvious mistakes. Proofreading is also as important as revision, and it mainly helps one to avoid some obvious grammatical errors. Everyone makes mistakes, and once the essay is complete, there will certainly be one or two punctuation, sentence structure, or grammar mistakes. Submitting an essay with such mistakes will unquestionably lead to a poor grade. It is, therefore, necessary to proofread an essay before submitting it and ensure that it is free of obvious and trivial mistakes.

10 Tips To Write A Good Business Management Assignment

Do you feel the pressure of a business assignment? Are you looking for quick business management assignment help ? This is a common problem faced by all students. You have been assigned to write a business management paper but you just don’t know where to begin or what points to include in your work. In this case, follow these simple tips to get started on your writing project.

1. Choose a Good Topic

If you are looking for ideas, start from home. Look at what interests you and think about how it will apply to the course content. If nothing comes out, look at the syllabus and find two things that interest you most. If you still don’t see anything interesting, ask your teacher what topics should be covered in your class during this semester before going back to your notes and class discussions.

2. Review Expectations of Your Professor

Review the instructions of your assignment sheet carefully. The lecturer may also give you some hints on what topics should be included. Make sure that you fully understand all requirements before starting writing.

Sometimes, deciding on the topic gets easy when you read the assignment guidelines over and over again. There could be a few hints that you can discover by carefully going through the set of instructions.

3. Assess Information Sources

To ensure the validity of information, always check out the source of data. Ask yourself questions like:

  • Who made this?
  • Where did this come from?
  • When was it published?
  • Why do they know this information and I don’t?
  • How many reported errors occurred in this study?

To determine reliability, look at who created the source, how long ago it was created, and where it is located.

4. Collect All Resources Before Writing

The easiest way to start your writing project is to collect everything you need. Print out the information and add any links to websites so that they can be easily accessed while researching or writing. You don’t want to lose anything by having only a hard copy at hand, especially if it’s an online link.

5. Write an Outline Before Starting Work

An outline helps you better and faster organize your thoughts and ideas in order of priority and importance, helping you solve problems quickly while working on your business assignment.

If you have no idea where to start, try this method: Take a blank sheet of paper and draw three columns, labeling them “Problem,” “Action” and “Result.” In the top section, write down three or more problems that you have encountered in your work, a problem with a product, a situation requiring a solution, and so on.

The bottom section will contain actions taken to resolve these issues. This allows you to make sure that all solutions were implemented correctly and completely.

6. Collect Sources of Information

This is an important step when preparing to write your assignment because it gives you an idea of what points should be covered in your article. For example, if you need to discuss how Starbucks uses social media tools, then find articles about other companies that have used something similar.

Do not forget to also spend time reading other topics from the syllabus before writing a scientific article.

7. Spend Time Reading the Materials You’ve Collected

Don’t immediately start writing when you finish your homework; read everything carefully before you write anything to make sure that all information is correct and relevant. This will also give you an idea of what points should be included in your assignment.

8. Summarize Areas Requiring Research

Before starting, summarize what has already been done on the topic so that later you can use this information for reference material. For example, if you have to do something about how Facebook is used by companies, then do not forget to mention previous studies on the subject during your presentation.

If there are none, however, say this at the beginning of your work so that the reader will not expect to see something new under the sun.

9. Set A Writing Schedule and Follow It

The main trick to keeping yourself on track, when you are working on an assignment or anything else, is to set up a schedule and adhere to it as much as possible.

It’s easy for things like reading news sites, playing games, and other leisure activities to take over your time if you do not plan them ahead of time.

Schedule your research and writing tasks depending on how long they usually take; this way it will be easier to organize your work time efforts.

10. Read Everything You’ve Written Before Submitting

This is one of the most important steps in writing because even the most experienced writers, editors, or proofreaders can miss something when they write content.

To avoid this mistake, especially when you are in a hurry to complete your work, always check what you have written before sending it to the teacher. If possible, ask one of your good friends or family members to review the document for you. They might be able to pinpoint errors that you couldn’t detect even after checking the paper time and again.

Conclusion

Finalizing details of an academic project is one of the most time-consuming tasks that students face during the course. However, it’s worth considering that not all assignment proposals produce high-quality results because some students do not know how to write them well. If you want good grades, make sure your proposal satisfies all requirements of your tutor. Try to adhere to all the guidelines and follow writing standards.

Life at lbs, overview of the program.

The Master’s in Management (MiM) is London Business School’s longest running Early Careers (EC) programme. The first to be introduced to the EC portfolio in 2009, it has been developed in partnership with LBS’ world-renowned faculty and the recruiters who budding business practitioners aim to work for. It focuses on an applied learning approach, combining theory and practice so that students “learn how different business activities function and areas work together to deliver value”. This is all underpinned by the ethos that learning in a diverse environment (diversity extending to nationality, academic background, professional experience, interests) creates that all-important global perspective.

The MiM offers a flexible programme with exit points at 12-16 months. While some students will choose to complete the degree in three terms, those wishing to go on an International Exchange or take additional electives can opt to continue with a fourth term (additional fee required). Regardless of exit point, all students are required to take 15 modules across terms 1 and 2 along with online pre-programme courses.

Alongside the core curriculum, students are required to select 3 electives from a selection of 80 elective options across the subject areas Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management Science & Operations, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, and Strategy & Entrepreneurship. Electives are held across programmes and give students a unique opportunity to work alongside MBAs , EMBAs , and other degree programme students. The cross-generational learning element is carried across to other aspects of the programme, such as with the mentorship scheme whereby MiMs can be mentored by MBA and MiF students and alumni.

In addition to the core curriculum and electives that develop hard academic skills, MiMs also focus time on developing the “soft skills that will enable you to build relationships, influence outcomes, and negotiate terms with self-awareness and confidence”. Through the Skills Programme, students work on understanding and honing the skills that employers expect, including interpersonal skills as well as numerical and digital literacy.

Experiential learning is a key aspect of the MiM experience and the programme allows students “to explore the real world of international business through hands-on experience”. During terms 2 and 3, MiMs participate in LondonLAB, an 8-10 week business project that tasks students to work in teams to solve challenges for a range of businesses from start-ups to multinationals across a variety of sectors. Past clients have included the BBC, Unicef, Salesforce, and Depop.

And for one week across terms 1, 2 or 3, students have the chance to participate in one of the programme’s Global Experience courses. Along with other Early Career, MBA, and Leadership programme peers, students work with faculty, corporations, micro-entrepreneurs, and alumni to “interact meaningfully with members of the local business ecosystem and gain an in-depth view of a country’s business culture”. Course themes and destinations are subject to change depending on travel restrictions due to Covid-19 but past experiences have included: sustainability developments in Dubai; examining Austin’s role as a breakthrough technologies hub; and examining what is unique about the venture capital and business ecosystem of San Francisco and Silicon Valley. What is all of this academic theory and experiential learning leading to? For 96% of the MiM2021 class (within three months of graduation), their degree led to a job. Specifically, pre-experience and graduate scheme roles across consulting (45%), financial services (27%), technology (18%), and diversified industries (10%). LBS’ Career Centre and its sector specialists and career coaches provide students with opportunities to engage with employers and “develop the skills and confidence to effectively communicate [their] value to employers”. How do they do this? Through a combination of activities such as: the Career Skills Programme; Personal Development Programme; Business Treks; and company engagements, including the Early Careers Recruitment Evening. While there is focus on helping MiMs to plan and navigate their recruitment journey, care is given to helping students develop the skills needed to network with LBS alumni and future employers, understand how to approach problem-solving and technical challenges at interviews, and how to find roles that match their skills, interests and aspirations.

LBS MiM essay #1

After several years with its mainstay ‘how will the programme support your academic and professional goals’ question, the MiM switched gears slightly last year and introduced a new essay 1 (and reduced word count):

What learning outcomes are you aiming to achieve as part of your Masters in Management programme? What challenge(s) might you encounter? ( 500 words )

While a different approach to the previous essay prompt, this question still tasks applicants to reflect on what they want to get out of the programme. In thinking of learning outcomes, this can be viewed as academic outcomes or professional outcomes, though this should all be underpinned by how the programme’s resources will support those outcomes.

In addressing academic learning outcomes, it would be wise to touch on the knowledge gaps you’re expecting the MiM to fill. Perhaps you come from a business/management background, but your undergraduate degree didn’t offer particular courses you need to achieve your career aims or took a more theoretical approach. Or you come from the sciences or the arts and need general management tuition to help launch your business. You may also need to understand certain concepts for your post-MFA career, or you might be interested in learning more about a subject area that you only touched on briefly during your undergrad. Here you want to discuss a few of the academic components that will support your learning and fill the outlined gaps. But steer clear of providing a list; this is where you want to show research and that you have a solid understanding of how the academic resources will fulfil your individual learning needs. So you need to discuss not just the ‘what’, but also the ‘why’. Also, avoid incorporating LBS resources here. This question is specifically about the MiM.

Learning outcomes can also extend to the professional. A large piece of the MiM curriculum revolves around skills development. Think about whether you need to hone any interpersonal skills to confidently present presentations to clients or to attend networking events with recruiters. Perhaps you need to scrub up on your modelling skills to achieve your consulting aims. This would be a good place to touch on how the Skills Programme and Career Centre will support those professional learning outcomes. A brief reminder of your career aims here is fine but keep it concise as these aims are already discussed in the application form.

The second half of the question – ‘what challenges might you encounter’ – was previously asked in the application form, so it’s not entirely new. But its presence as a standalone essay question indicates the adcom’s interest in understanding your level of self-awareness . This question really requires some introspection. While you may want to touch on the challenges that may arise with achieving the aforementioned learning aims, such as adapting to a new type of study environment or teaching method, it’s fine to also mention any personal challenges. After all, you’re a person. Perhaps you’ll need to employ time management and organisational tools to cope with the hectic schedule and pace, or you’ll need to switch gears in how you approach study in a grad school environment. A brief word on your ability to overcome these challenges to succeed in achieving your learning aims would make for a nice close to this essay.

LBS MiM essay #2

If essay 1 is about what you have to gain, essay 2 is about what you have to give back and remains with a focus on the wider school community:

During your time as a Master’s in Management student, how will you contribute to the School community? ( 400 words )

The idea of being communal is an essential value at LBS (more on that below). This question gives you a chance to showcase your achievements and how your past successes will allow you to impact the LBS community.

In thinking about how you can add value and contribute , start by reflecting on your experience – academic (undergraduate studies), professional (internships), and personal (extracurricular engagements). Think about where you’ve achieved success and how you can apply learnings or skills from those experiences to contribute. Presenting 3-4 ideas is advisable, but you may find you want to dedicate more word space to 1 or 2 ideas. And make sure these ideas are concrete; writing your international experience will support the learning experience of your peers doesn’t say anything. This is your chance to set yourself apart and show that you’ve not only done your research and understand what the community has to offer, but that you’ve put thought into how you can enhance the community around you.

To be eligible for the MiM, applicants must have less than two years of postgraduate work experience (only postgraduate work experience is considered towards the two-year limit; internships taken during your studies don’t count).

MiMs come from a variety of undergraduate study backgrounds and while there’s no degree requirement, applicants must have achieved or expect to achieve a bachelor’s degree result equivalent to a UK 2:1 minimum / GPA 3.3 or above. Along with a strong undergraduate degree, GMAT or GRE is required and must be taken prior to applying. While there is no minimum score, it is recommended applicants apply with a 600+.

As with other degree programmes, the MiM now requires only one reference, which must be submitted via the school’s online reference system. It is recommended applicants select a previous or current employer, though an academic referee will suffice so long as they can speak to the applicant’s character and abilities.

Along with reference, GMAT/GRE score, and undergraduate degree, applicants are required to submit a one page CV/resume , proof of English, and pay an application fee. Along with all of this comes a number of short answer questions in the application form. As these questions sit in the application form there’s sometimes thought that they’re not as important as the long form essays. Not true! The short answers, which ask questions around your interests, programme/school research, international experience, and career aims are key as they give the adcom an insight into who you are outside of your stats, what motivates you, and what you want to achieve. So do spend time crafting answers to these questions.

The programme runs a staged admissions process. Applicants can apply at any one of the four stages, though early application is advised as competition becomes more intense in the final months.

Who gets accepted to the LBS MiM program

The MiM is aimed at driven early career business practitioners who have graduated within the last two years, and with a maximum of two years of postgraduate work experience. While work experience isn’t required – some students will join immediately following their undergraduate degree – most students will have completed some type of professional work experience, whether an internship or full-time role. Work experience is as varied as undergraduate study discipline and students may have worked in MNCs, start-ups, or family businesses. Brand doesn’t necessarily mean everything; the adcom wants to understand why you’ve made the academic and professional choices that you have (connect the dots for them!), skills developed, and learning outcomes, all of which will support your learning experience, and that of your cohort, once on the programme.

While students will be educated on the types of industries and roles they may target post-programme, and where their skillset can be best utilised, all students are expected to be ready to build a foundation for a career in business. What does this mean? That they’ll have thought about their career aims and be able to demonstrate an understanding of their intended path through the application process. The adcom wants to see ambitious individuals who want to make an impact in the world around them. And they want to see individuals who have already achieved success and impacted those around them, be it at school or at work, and seek students who can demonstrate “a track record of excellence, achievement, and leadership potential”.

While data for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests may be found online, LBS, like many of its European counterparts, does not commonly supply information on acceptance or retention rates. But being LBS, it’s safe to assume that competition is fierce. MiMs are just as talented and driven as their more senior counterparts across other degree programmes and there are a lot of big fish looking to make a splash in a relatively small pond.

That said, the MiM admissions process should be considered a selection process. They’re keen to understand applicant journeys and that all important (and rather intangible) fit . This is done primarily through the interview process. While an interview does not guarantee an offer, it’s a sign that the adcom sees something interesting in you that it wants to further explore.

Community is one of the most important aspects of life at LBS – for students, alumni, faculty, and staff alike. This can be seen early from the application stage, where most degree programmes have at least one question in the application about the community and about how an applicant will add value to it.

To be sure, the school doesn’t require, or indeed even expect every student to take a leadership position in a club or lead a trek. But it wants individuals on-campus who are communal in nature; those who participate, who enjoy peer-to-peer learning and teaching, who thrive in collaborative environments .

More than 80 student clubs run more than 1,000 events every year, including social, professional, and cultural clubs. Students play a key role in developing and running student-led events such as the Women in Business Conference, EUROUT and China Business Forum. Whether participating as an organiser or spectator, these events give students the chance to network with one another as well as industry or subject-area experts and engage in discussion and debate about the most important issues facing business.

And community members jump at the chance to socialise outside of the classroom and professional interest clubs or business treks. Whether the annual Tattoo, which celebrates the school’s diversity through food, dance and entertainment, or the fortnightly Sundowners, where students, alumni, faculty, and staff can meet and network, LBSers never miss a chance to celebrate being part of the community.

Here is the example question we’re going to use throughout this article to demonstrate what to do to get that Band 6 in your HSC Business Studies Essay:

how to write a band 6 hsc business studies essay

Step #1: Decide on Your Approach

The 30-70 rule.

As mentioned above, there are two ways to approach a HSC Business Studies essay:

  • 70% case studies and 30% theory explanation
  • 70% theory explanation 30% case studies

It’s important to understand that either approach, if executed well, is FINE.

The 30-70 Rule:  all essays had either 30% theory and 70% case study or vice versa.

If you look at many top scoring HSC Business Studies essay responses over multiple years, all of them followed the 30-70 Rule.

Provided you follow the 30-70 Rule, pick the approach you find most logical and you are most comfortable writing with and you are well on your way to crafting that Band 6 HSC Business Studies essay!

Note: Students often you stress too much about the structure or approach of your essays. While structure is important, don’t forget to provide  well explained and supported arguments that answer the question .

Which Approach Should You Take?

There are essentially two schools of thought when it comes to writing a Band 6 HSC Business Studies essay.

Some teachers and markers believe that the case study should be the driving factor in your essay , adding theory to explain the case where needed. On the other hand, some believe that the case study should only be used as evidence to highlight or accentuate your theory and explanation.

For your school assessments, it’s best to follow your marker’s preferred school of thought. However, for the HSC exam, choose whichever approach suits you the best!

Step #2: Plan Your Essay

As you probably have experienced, the HSC Business Studies syllabus encompasses a large variety of dot points you will be expected to recall.

#1: Write Down All Relevant Syllabus Dot Points

To make sure that this doesn’t trip you over, use the first page of your writing booklet to sketch a plan of your response. Importantly, include the syllabus dot points you will be referring to.

By jotting these down on the page you ensure you first of all don’t forget any , but secondly also give yourself an opportunity to draw connections between different syllabus dot points to better answer the question!

If you are finding it hard to memorise the syllabus content, check out memorisation tips for Business Studies !

#2: Use the Directive Verb to Create Your Thesis

Before we plan, we must understand the NESA directive verbs . This will determine the level of depth and how the markers want you to answer the question.

With a plan, it makes your essay structure clearer and allows you to organise your ideas in a way which keeps your response  sustained, which is a key component of the A range marking criteria.

Your essay must continually drive towards developing your thesis — the actual answer to the essay question itself.

Step #3: Write A Strong Introduction

A strong introduction includes a strong thesis that provides context for the essay.

Now, connect your paragraph points to answering the thesis  and introduce your case studies. This is better than simply stating which external influences you will be looking at, which is not as effective and thesis-driven.

For example, rather than saying:

Globalisation, quality expectations and corporate social responsibility are the external influences which operations management must respond to. These influences are best represented by leading pizza franchise Domino’s Pizza, local school textbook manufacturer Secondary Textbooks, and leading sportswear and footwear manufacturer Nike.
These influences are exemplified by globalisation, which has opened businesses to the influence of global factors and increasingly demanding supply chain management needs, increased quality expectations that have created more stringent quality processes and management strategies, and an emerging emphasis on corporate social responsible behaviours to ensure legal compliance and ethical responsibility. Leading pizza franchise Domino’s Pizza, local school textbook manufacturer Secondary Textbooks, and leading sportswear and footwear manufacturer Nike are businesses that respectively demonstrate the crucial response of operations management.

It is much more impressive to the marker if you are able to show a direct link between your points and the thesis you are addressing , as it shows a more logical and well-planned response.

Together the intro would look like:

Operations management involves the set of processes used by businesses to transform inputs into outputs. These processes are continually influenced by external influences which can significantly hinder or promote a business’ competitive advantage. Operations management therefore must respond to these external influences using its operations strategies to capitalise on new developments and adapt, hence highlighting the importance of responding to external influences.

Step #4: Choose Your Business Studies Case Studies

In addition to choosing how much of the essay to focus on case studies, you will also need to decide which case studies (and how many) to use in your HSC Business Studies essay. Again, it varies and depends on what you are comfortable with .

Top responses have however followed these trends:

  • Use more than one case study (usually three in total, or one per body paragraph)
  • Typically been large real life businesses where there is a wide range of information available .
  • Use the most recent events and issues
  • Have not used hypothetical

Think about it this way — would you trust someone if they said that a certain business strategy has worked if it hasn’t actually happened in real life?

Should You Use Hypothetical Case Studies in Your Business Studies Essay?

This is isn’t saying to stay away from hypothetical case studies (i.e. a made up business). It’s not impossible to  get 20/20 with hypothetical case studies .

However, markers have found that hypothetical businesses are often a ‘super business’ that is perfect in every single way and therefore have no issues.

This ultimately does not give you much to write about and hence, you fail to show adequate knowledge of contemporary business issues. Which is obviously a problem for your HSC Business Studies Essay.

If you do choose to use a hypothetical (which I did in my plan), remember to make it realistic and that the whole point of the hypothetical is to show understanding, not to be a perfect business.

Tip : I recommend that you come up with the entire business as part of your exam preparation and also write out how it connects to each syllabus dot point. You can be creative, but don’t take too many liberties, it still needs to be realistic.

Step #5: Write the Essay

The other general criteria in an HSC Business Studies essay is the related to the way you write and use language , including business terminology and concepts.

This of course means you must know your content well and be able to connect different parts of the syllabus together and understand their relationships.

Once you have mastered your content, the criteria then asks for a ‘ sustained, logical and cohesive ‘ response. In order to achieve this, it is best to use a clear structure (which we have planned for in Step 1) as it forces you to retain a logical and cohesive structure.

Here’s how to do it:

#1: Use DPEEL (writing structure)

To provide a basic structure, follow DPEEL  which will ensure you are using business terminology and concepts consistently in your essay.

How to Write a HSC Business Studies Report - DPEEL Structure

Definition:  assume the marker is a layperson (has limited knowledge of the course) and ensure you are defining the business term or concept to reflect your understanding. Can be integrated into the response and does not need its own sentence. Point:  Attack the question and pinpoint what your overall answer will be, akin to a mini thesis. Explain:  Provide further details that elaborate on your point. Depending on which directive verb you are asked, this is also where you can start to show relationships (analyse), provide additional economic theories that demonstrate a cause and effect (explain) or make a judgement (assess/evaluate). Evidence:  Use your case study to illustrate how real life businesses apply the business studies content to achieve their goals rather than simply telling the reader that the business uses a specific strategy and not elaborating on how. Also be careful of simply ‘retelling the story’ of what the business does but not connecting it to your thesis! Link:  Conclude your paragraph by linking your points back to your original thesis.

#2: Use Transition Signals

The ‘sustained’ element of the marking criteria means the markers want the essay to flow uninterrupted . No additional details or sidetracks.

The best way to achieve this is through the use of transition signals.

Transition signals include words such as furthermore, hence, as a result, this leads to, but, however.

These are ‘linking’ words which along with the DPEEL structure FORCE  you to stay on track and sustain your attack on the thesis, as each sentence must relate to the previous. This makes it more difficult for you to stray off topic, allowing you to create a sustained response!

#3: Prepare a case study table for your Business Studies essay

Just like with English, Business Studies is also a subject with high demands on memory.

Not only must you remember course content, you must also remember relevant case studies. An efficient way to facilitate this process is a simple table that allows you to organise your information.

Here’s an example of a good HSC Business Studies Case Study Table:

Table Preview

This will increase your mind’s ability to chunk the information without feeling overwhelmed, and it will be easier to remember!

Don’t wait until it’s too late! At Art of Smart Education our Hills District HSC Business Studies Tutors  can support you with tutoring at our Castle Hill campus, or tutoring in your home or online across NSW!

#4: Write a Strong Conclusion

Good news — HSC Business Studies essay conclusions are quite straightforward!

They need to:

Reaffirm your position and perspectives by restating your thesis — your answer to the question. Tie up your points and case studies and summarise how they have supported your thesis.

Make sure you don’t overdo the conclusion. 3-4 sentences is more than enough and the last thing a marker wants to see is a conclusion that has overstayed its welcome!

Step 6: Practise Writing HSC Business Studies Essay Plans

The final and most important tip is to practise this approach using different styles and topics of essay questions. It is also important that you plan the essays as you would in an exam to give you practice for planning for unseen questions.

Apply these steps to build your consistency in writing logically and systematically.

That is the only way you will improve and when you do improve, you will notice that you have become a better overall writer and this should reflect in your other subjects too. If you need more essay questions you can use past HSC exams , your textbook, or ask your teacher.

How to Write a Good Thesis for your HSC Business Studies Essay

The most important thing about any essay is the answer to the question itself with your thesis.  All paragraphs, business theory and case studies are simply used to support the thesis .

As a result, begin the plan by writing a direct answer to the question. In your thesis you want to:

  • Provide context for the question — include definitions of key terms such as external influences and operations management
  • Then use qualifiers or intensifiers (to some extent, significantly, is ineffective) to answer the essay question.

For our example, the thesis for our example questions would look like this:

Operations management involves the set of processes used by businesses to transform inputs into outputs. These processes are continually influenced by external influences which can significantly hinder or promote a business’ competitive advantage. Operations management therefore must respond to these external influences using its operations strategies to capitalise on new developments and adapt, hence highlighting the importance of responding to external influences.

How to Write Band 6 Body Paragraphs for your HSC Business Studies Essay

Now you should organise your ideas into dot points which you will write your paragraphs about.

Also note down any sub points or arguments you think of underneath. This can include theory or case study events.

As this is the planning stage, it isn’t essential to get it all down perfectly — even just a word or key term to retain your train of thought is fine.

Below is an IDEAL plan using our example question. I’ve used more words than I normally would to help you read along (in reality, a few word dot points are fine, as long as you can understand what you’ve written).

how to write a band 6 hsc business studies essay

If there are natural links and connections between paragraphs this can also be useful in transitioning in between different paragraphs to maintain the  cohesiveness  of the essay, i.e. making it flow better.

how to write business management essay

Business Management essay

Business management is essential for me because I have a great desire to successfully manage people and business projects, as well as to develop effective business-related policies.  I want to major in business in order to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree and become a true professional in business management. The reason that I am applying for the scholarship is that it will help me to pay for my academic tuition, academic resources (books, programs, etc.) and spend much more time on my studies.

Today I have to work full time in order to advance myself with a degree in business management. I am currently pursuing my Associate’s Degree, but I am not going to stop my education. To become a true professional in business management, it is necessary to learn more about the key business strategies that will help to enhance management practices and develop the proper skills and abilities. I am going forward to achieve my Bachelor’s Degree.

I am currently pursuing a career course that will help me to advance my leadership and management skills and have the opportunity to work in an advanced management field.  My specific academic goals contribute to my professional growth. Some of my academic goals include:

  • To develop effective leadership and management skills in order to apply these skills in practice;
  • To improve my academic performance in order to become more professional in decision making and goal setting practices;
  • To develop good technical skills in order to apply new technologies in business practices;
  • To learn more about business management strategies that could be applied in practice;
  • To learn how to identify and successfully resolve various organizational and business problems;
  • To develop my communication skills that are necessary in achieving strategic goals;
  • To learn more about strategic planning in business;
  • To use my skills and abilities to continue maintaining a “B” average;
  • To do everything possible to keep satisfactory attendance.

My career plans depend on my academic achievements and work experience. I know that business management is not an easy field to work in.  I will be focused on my professional development. My work experience involves dealing with conflicts within management, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, discrimination, as well as personal development. I have been well trained to deal with standard operating procedures and implementation of such standards, to satisfy the Department of Defense and be in compliance with the established laws and regulations of our Federal Government.

In addition, I will do my best to develop professional skills in business management practices that will help me to make good management decisions in my future career. To be a good manager, it is very important to develop not only effective interpersonal communication skills, but also good intuition, which helps to make effective management decisions.  I need general knowledge in HR management, finance and accounting operations. I know that Bachelor’s programs in this field are effective in achieving the established academic goals. The greatest pleasure for me would be to pass exams successfully. I believe that my personal skills and abilities will be useful in achieving my academic goals. I am self-confident, hard-working and persistent. I know that to become a good manager I should study hard. I know that a good manager should be competent in three key areas: managing people; managing and developing processes and policies; and managing and developing oneself. I believe that my Bachelor’s program in business management will help me to develop the proper skills to become competent in the above mentioned areas. Today I pay due attention to my personal development. I successfully deal with stresses and conflicts. A good manager should know how to avoid stressful situations which may lead to conflicts in the workplace. Besides, I use my creativity in decision making process to demonstrate the best traits of my character. Innovative ideas in business management provide massive opportunities for successful implementation of the established strategic goals.

Thus, it is necessary to conclude that my specific academic goals and career plans will motivate me to study hard. I know that to become a professional in business management, it is necessary to never give up and be quick about solving any problem or overcoming any barrier.  I realize that my academic and career goals are the essential goals I should achieve in the nearest future. Achieving these goals will help to succeed in the realization of my personal potential in profession and career. Business management practices guarantee professional success if a manager is goal-oriented and creative. One of my great desires is to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree in order to become a true professional in business management. I believe that I will be able to apply my best skills and abilities to succeed in academic performance and become a well-trained specialist. My work experience will help me to be confident in everything I need to do to attain my academic goals and career plans.

Project Management Essay

  • To find inspiration for your paper and overcome writer’s block
  • As a source of information (ensure proper referencing)
  • As a template for you assignment

Why study project management? This essay gives an answer to the question. It explains the importance and benefits of planning as a business process and a research topic. Write an A+ essay on product management with this example!

Introduction

Project management phases.

  • Strategic Management

Project management is a discipline of planning, controlling, securing and organizing resources to attain specific objectives. A project can be perceived as an impermanent endeavour with a defined starting and end, undertaken to convene unique objectives and goals, normally to bring about useful change.

The impermanent nature of projects differs from business to business. In some cases it can be permanent, or semi permanent, repetitive functional actions to produce services or products. “A project is a unique endeavour to produce a set of deliverables within clearly specified time, cost and quality constraints” (Westland 2).

All projects can be thought of as a series of phases that have specific beginnings and defined endpoints. Project management life cycle has mostly four phases namely project initiation, project planning, project execution and project closure. All of the phases of the project life cycle have lot of activities to play. These are described in the following segment.

Project Initiation:

This is the initial phase of the project life cycle, which, in turn, has a group of activities which are to be carried out prior to the planning stage. In this phase, the scope and purpose for initiating it and the solution to be found are described.

Project Planning:

In the project planning step, all the project management planning tasks, which are required to complete the project on time and within budget are explained.

Project Execution:

The next phase of project life cycle is project execution. In this phase, the physical deliverables are presented for the consumer. It is the most significant phase in the project life cycle and it utilizes a set of energy and resources.

Project Closure:

Project closure is the final phase of the project life cycle, which properly concludes the project and reports the whole achievement in terms of pre-defined objectives.

The job of the Project Manager is to prepare, execute and decide projects according to the given parameters and within financial plan. This includes obtaining resources and managing the plans of group and third-party consultants so as to distribute projects according to the plan.

The Project Manager will also describe the project’s aim and manage quality control all through its life cycle. McGraw-Hill and Irwin, in their book, “Project Management: The Managerial Process,” claim that “Project Management strikes a balance between the technical and human aspects of managing projects. It is suitable for a course in project management and for professionals who seek a project management handbook” (Gray & Larson).

The Role of Strategic Management in a Project

Strategic Management method contains the process of selecting, directing and calculating project outcomes to ensure best value for a business. Every project undertaken by a business has to meet certain criteria set up by the company’s management. This is intended to ensure alignment with the planned vision of the business.

The four important Strategic Management Processes are: ensure that every project is strategically associated, make a Project Management centred culture, apply Strategic Project Management best practices and to evolve a strategic project measurement scheme.

Project Scope Management, on the other hand, contains the procedures necessary to ensure that the project encompasses all the work required, but only the works necessary to complete the project effectively. Managing the project scope mainly concerns with controlling and defining what is and is not contained in the project.

Project management must be viewed as a technique that enables the organisations to successfully execute selected projects efficiently and effectively. However, the use of this technique alone does not automatically guarantee project achievement.

Whether you're offering consulting, virtual assistance, freelance writing, or any other service, you can often get started with just a computer, internet access, and a willingness to market your expertise. This low barrier to entry makes service-based businesses an attractive option for entrepreneurs looking to start a business with minimal financial risk.

Here are the top five best side hustles you can launch today without breaking the bank:

1. freelance writing.

If you enjoy writing, freelance work can be a great side hustle . With platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, you can start pitching your services without needing to spend a dime. Whether you’re interested in blog posts, website content, or even ghostwriting books, there’s always a demand for quality writing. Plus, you can start with just a computer and an internet connection, making it one of the most accessible side hustles.

Today’s NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Saturday, August 31

Desperate to save pokrovsk, the ukrainian national guard has deployed one of its few offensive brigades, the scary reason arsenal signing raheem sterling could derail it all.

Getting Started:

  • Create a portfolio with samples of your work.
  • Sign up on freelance platforms and start pitching your services.
  • Start networking to find opportunities.

2. Virtual Assistance

With more businesses and entrepreneurs going digital, the need for virtual assistants (VAs) is on the rise. As a VA, you might handle tasks like email management, social media scheduling, customer service, or calendar management. This side hustle requires organizational skills, attention to detail, and good communication but doesn’t require any significant upfront investment.

  • Identify your strengths and what services you can offer.
  • Create a profile on platforms like Upwork.
  • Reach out to small business owners or solopreneurs who might need help managing their workload.

3. Online Education

If you’re knowledgeable in a particular subject, online tutoring can be a rewarding and profitable side hustle. Whether it’s math, science, language arts, or even SAT prep, there are students of all ages looking for help. Platforms like Tutor.com make it easy to connect with students and start tutoring from the comfort of your home.

  • Determine which subjects you are comfortable teaching.
  • Join tutoring platforms and promote your services on social media.
  • Consider offering a free initial session to build your reputation and get reviews.

4. Print on Demand

Print on demand (POD) allows you to design and sell custom products like t-shirts, mugs, and posters without needing to handle inventory or shipping. Websites like Printful make it easy to upload your designs and market your products. You only pay when you make a sale, making it a low-risk side hustle.

  • Create designs using free design tools like Canva.
  • Sign up on a POD platform and upload your designs.
  • Promote your products through social media or a personal blog.

5. Social Media Management

Many small businesses struggle with social media due to a lack of time or skillset. If you’re savvy with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, you can offer your services as a social media manager. This role involves creating content, scheduling posts, engaging with followers, and analyzing performance metrics.

  • Build your own social media profiles to demonstrate your skills.
  • Offer your services to local businesses or through freelance platforms.
  • Consider taking free or low-cost online courses to enhance your social media marketing knowledge.

The bottom line is that starting a side hustle doesn’t have to require a large financial investment. The five side hustles mentioned above are all viable options that can be started with little to no money. Whether you’re looking to make extra cash, explore a new career path, or eventually turn your side hustle into a full-time business, the key is to take that first step and get started. With dedication, creativity, and a willingness to learn, your side hustle could become the next big thing in your life.

Call for Applications: The 2024 Essay Competition on the topic “Digitalization of Armed Conflicts”

  • Republic of Moldova
  • Learning and teaching IHL
  • New technologies and warfare
  • Cyber and information operations

The International Committee of the Red Cross in the Republic of Moldova (ICRC) is proud to announce an essay competition on the theme Digitalization of Armed Conflicts . The competition seeks to spotlight that, applied in the spirit in which they were designed to protect and function, the Geneva Conventions can rise to the modern challenges of today’s armed conflicts.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, a moment of recommitment towards IHL. The Geneva Conventions were adopted in 1949 and are now universally ratified. They represent a universal acknowledgement that war needs rules to limit its devastating impact. In an often-divided world, when parties respect the law, lives are saved, humanitarian actors are enabled to provide aid to affected populations and the principle of humanity is upheld.

At the same time, new challenges such as cyber warfare have become reality in contemporary armed conflicts. We, therefore, encourage students to approach the topic from various perspectives, such as: What are the ethical challenges of using cyber operations in warfare? How can technology be used responsibly in armed conflicts so as to ensure civilian safety? How can the global community work together to reduce the risks of cyber warfare? How does international humanitarian law protect humanitarian workers from cyber warfare? How can media reporting on military cyber operations help raise awareness about civilian risks during armed conflicts? These are examples, and participants are welcome to choose one of these questions or explore other related topics in their essays.

In today’s world, that is increasingly polarized and where international commitments are being challenged, the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law embody universal humanitarian values that preserve lives and dignity. What the world needs more than ever is a more robust adherence to the Geneva Conventions. This is where the students of today - the future generations of professionals - step in. We at the ICRC support the students in exploring, engaging and debating with the ethical and humanitarian issues arising from armed conflict so that they are able to play their role of re-affirming the enduring relevance of IHL, the deep-rooted respect for human dignity, both in peacetime and in the midst of armed conflict. Doris El Doueihy, Head of Delegation, ICRC, Chisinau

To participate, students must submit their essays along with a copy of their identification and proof of enrollment in a university programme (undergraduate or masters). These documents must be received by the ICRC Chisinau Delegation no later than 31 October 2024 at 23:59 . Submissions can be sent by email to [email protected] or by mail to Bulgara Str. 23, MD-2001, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. Participation in the competition is individual, collective work is not accepted. Essays can be written in Romanian, Russian or English. Winners will be informed in the last week of November 2024 and invited for an awards ceremony scheduled for early December.

The winning entries will be selected by a panel of IHL experts chosen by the ICRC. Participants will be assessed on their logical arguments, the depth to which they develop their answers, structure and demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter.

The winners will be notified by the end of November 2024 and invited to an awards ceremony.

The 1 st prize essay:  an internship at the ICRC in Chisinau ;

The 2 nd prize essay:  a day spent at the ICRC in Chisinau and attendance of an ICRC event on IHL ;

The 3 rd prize essay:  ICRC IHL publications

Certificates of participation will be provided for all submissions that are not disqualified.
