1. You can work flexible hours

It’s for this reason that part-time jobs are popular with students or professionals with caring responsibilities, allowing them to strike a balance between work and personal life while still contributing to the workforce.

2. You maintain a healthy work–life balance

Balancing long hours at work with personal commitments is often a juggle and can lead to stress, burnout and health concerns.

With fewer hours at work and a more flexible schedule, part-time workers have the potential for greater work–life balance. They may have more time for hobbies, exercise and friends, contributing to their overall wellbeing.

Part-time employees often receive fewer benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans and paid time off compared to their full-time counterparts.

Before stepping into this type of employment, you need to make yourself aware of your employee rights and consider how important these benefits are to you at this point in your life.

2. The money’s not always good

Simply put, less hours at work usually mean less pay. Not only does this impact your ability to budget and pay your bills on a day-to-day basis, but it can also have an impact on long-term savings for retirement or other important financial goals.

If you’re considering part-time work, you need to carefully consider the short- and long-term financial impact.

3. You have limited career advancement opportunities

Climbing the ladder may be a bit trickier. Some part-time gigs have limited growth opportunities, which could slow down your career train.

There can also be a perception, rightly or wrongly, that senior-level positions can’t be performed part time, so be prepared for this if you are a part-timer who is aiming for promotion.

This provides experience for their résumé and gives them a foundation for their future careers. Additionally, part-time work contributes to financial independence, helping students cover educational expenses and reducing the burden of student loans .

While students may be concerned about the impact that part-time work can have on grades, it’s always possible to incorporate some form of part-time work into a busy student schedule. Students should see this as an opportunity to develop time management skills and get creative about the multitude of ways that they can earn income.

At the present day, the majority of students chose work while going to college, they take a part-time job and attend classes, or they chose a full-time occupation during the summer. Some students have a financial necessity to find work before graduation, while others are ready to sacrifice their free time, entertainment, and communication with group mates to provide themselves with a comfortable living and become adaptable, responsible, and mature. Like any activity, working while going to college has positive and negative effects on young people. The purpose of this essay is to examine the reasons that encourage students to work while studying and the impact of working during college.

Working during college has its reasons and may be highly beneficial. Although a significant number of students are frequently apprehensive about applying for a part-time or even full-time job during college, this possibility may be taken into consideration. However, a student should thoroughly evaluate his or her strengths, flexibility, and potential necessity of working. One of the most substantial reasons to work while going to college is the ability to earn money. A working student may independently pay for his or her classes, reduce the amount of money that was borrowed for education, or have the ability to afford a comfortable living. In particular cases, when companies offer students the benefits of a full-time job for the execution of part-time work, young people may start their retirement savings while they are still studying. Another reason for working while going to college is the improvement of personal and professional skills. Even if a taken part-time job is not connected with obtainable education and future profession, it will inevitably require time management and decision-making skills, or the ability to build understanding with a large number of diverse people. In general, working during college is a positive personal life experience, students may try various kinds of activities, test their abilities, or get acquainted and apparently form a friendship with a great number of people.

Working while going to college has a substantial number of positive effects. First of all, getting a job during college provides students with an income and helps them to make student loan payments. Student loan debt is a significant issue for many students, the necessity to pay it after graduation slows down life progress and postpones the essential ambitions such as homeownership and starting a family. Working during college gives young people the possibility to graduate without substantial financial obligations. Another positive impact of the combination of work with studying is the receiving of valuable job experience. Students who are working during college accumulate knowledge, improve self-discipline, and develop their professional and communicative skills. Finding a job that corresponds with a chosen profession may positively affect a resume and provide career development immediately after finishing the study. Even if job experience received during part-time work is not closely related to the field of study, working students learn work ethic, and get additional information that may be highly useful in the future. Such students obviously get more chances to fit a particular position after graduation compared with young people without any experience at all.

Despite the positive impact of working while going to college on students’ future career, self-development, and financial obligations, a job taken in college may influence students adversely. As young people who work frequently choose their jobs instead of study time and prefer practical skills to theoretical knowledge, it significantly affects their grades in a negative way. Students with work frequently have a serious risk of getting expelled, as the necessity to work effectively for extended hours eliminates the possibility of studying to the full extent. The constant receiving of low grades results in deferring or quitting courses. If a job takes much time and effort, it makes students distracted and influences their social life, insulating them from entertainment, communication, and activities with group mates. Negative effects of working while studying on grades, a lack of sleep and social life, and tension at work due to managing deadlines significantly increase the working students’ level of stress. One more potential though not inevitable negative effect of working while going to college is an elevated risk of students’ obesity. Working young people frequently do not have time for balanced and healthy meals, and the consumption of fast food and other high-sugar meals may lead to severe health problems, like obesity, diabetes, and other diseases.

Students have various reasons to work while going to college, the most substantial reason is the ability to pay classes, reduce the student loan debt before graduation, and start retirement savings in the case of full-time job benefits for part-time work from particular companies. Working while going to college improves students’ personal and professional skills and provides a positive life experience. Working in college has both positive and negative effects on students. It helps with student loan payments and significantly influences the successful start of a career due to received experience, skills, and knowledge. However, a lack of sleep and social life, tension at work due to managing deadlines, and extended working hours have a negative impact on students’ grades and increase the risk of getting expelled. As working students frequently eat fast food due to a lack of time for healthy meals, it may result in severe diseases.

If your child is a high school student and wants to earn their own money , they may want to get a part-time job. 

Before your teen starts job searching, it’s good to know the pros and cons of having your teen workwhile still in high school.

 It’s important to note that while taking on a part-time job is a great learning experience for your teen, as a parent you need to make sure that they aren’t trying to do too much. Self-care is important even in your high school years!

We have some great suggestions for jobs that are good for high schoolers who want to still prioritize things like school and friends while making some extra money.

Ask an Expert: What Are the Pros and Cons of Having a Part-Time Job in High School? 

Two former educators and educational authors, Peggy Gisler, Ed.S., and Marge Eberts, Ed.S , weigh in on the benefits and potential issues of having a teen take on a job while still in high school.

Q: Is it good to have a part-time job while still in high school?    A: All the research done on high school students holding part-time jobs shows that it is usually a very productive experience. The benefits include learning how to handle responsibility , manage time, deal with adults, get a peek at the working world, and occupy time in a worthwhile activity. Busy teenagers do not usually get into trouble. High school students who work begin to feel and act more adult. And if they are handling their job well and receive additional responsibilities, their self-esteem grows.  In addition, being able to include a part-time job on a college or job application is definitely a plus. Students especially develop a positive orientation toward work if they begin working in their senior year instead of earlier. All of the positives about having a part-time job have one big caveat. Students cannot usually be employed more than 20 hours per week or their grades begin to suffer , they do less homework, and they are more likely to drop out. Not all students are capable of handling a part-time job during the school year. A job can interfere with essential study time or important extracurricular activities.  If a student begins to have poorer grades or stay up too late after getting a job, it is time to either quit the job or cut back on the hours of employment. A job will also have limited benefit if students spend all their pay on personal luxuries rather than saving some amount for future goals. Younger high school students usually need to obtain a work permit from their schools in order to be employed. The schools may have the right to revoke the permit if attendance or academic problems occur. State laws determine the hours in which students can be employed as well as the industries where they can work.

How Much Can a High School Student Legally Work?

There are child labor laws in place that vary from state to state. Since many high school students are minors, there are restrictions in place. 

A good example is New York. Students as young as 14 can get a job with a work permit for some extra money but can’t work more than 3 hours a day or 23 hours a week. 

Federal guidelines say that a teen under the age of 16 can’t work past 7 pm and are limited to 8 hours a day, 50 hours a week, 6 days a week when school is out. 

If over 16, they can work past 7 pm, depending on the state, and 10 hours a day, 50 hours a week between the last day of the school year and Labor Day.

How Can a High School Student Get a Job? 

It’s fairly simple. In the same way, you would look for a job as an adult, you would as a teenager. There are plenty of websites that have job posts for teens in your area. Most of them will list the criteria or experience needed for the job. 

Some higher-paying jobs will require a GED or high school diploma so be sure to reach out to the company you are interested in if that information isn’t available in the post.

What are the Best Part-Time Jobs for a High School Student?

Here are our top 10 choices for jobs for a high school student!

1. Babysitter

Many teenagers get into babysitting as a way to make some cash of their own. You may have a family member or a neighbor with young children who are looking for affordable childcare after school or on the weekends. Most of the time, these parents don’t require any previous work experience.

2. Pet Sitter

Pet sitting is similar to babysitting. If your teenager has a pet of their own, they may be able to take on helping out someone in the community with theirs. This can include dog walking, check-in on a part, and providing clean water and food while their owner is out of town or busy with work, etc. It’s usually fairly flexible as well.

3. Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

This is a great option for a summer job . If your teen loves the summer sun and swimming, they can get certified as a lifeguard or work as a swim instructor at a local recreation center. Usually, there’s some sort of course on first aid as well to be sure they can handle any type of emergency. 

These jobs are great if they don’t want to work during the school year and want something to occupy their time during summer vacation.

There are always students that need academic help, even in your teen’s high school. They check to see if they can create some flyers to post at school or get permission to post on social media to offer help to students that are struggling in an area that your child excels. Those kids can reach out to their parents to see if they are interested in hiring you for help!

5. Food Service

Any sort of fast food establishment like McDonald’s is open to hiring high school students part-time. As a team member, you will help in any areas of the restaurant that need it (drive-thru, food prep, cleaning, etc). These jobs typically pay minimum wage but offer after-school shifts and day shifts on the weekends and during breaks from school.

6. Retail Sales Associate

Just like food service, retail stores hire high school students for part-time positions. It’s another entry-level job that has minimum requirements such as good communication skills since a majority of the time you will be interacting with customers.

7. Camp Counselor

Working at a camp is another great summer position. See if any of your local camps are looking for counselors. You can typically find open positions for everything from sleepaway camps to day camps. Most of the time, you can easily get hired back for another summer if you like the job and do well.

8. Car Wash Attendant

This is another simple entry-level job that sometimes hires high school students or even college students. It’s an easy position that may not pay a lot but it’s worth looking into during their job search since there’s usually a flexible schedule.

9. Lawn Care

Many high schoolers offer their lawn services during this spring and summer to members of their community. If yours already mows your lawn, they can see if any seniors or anyone else that lives nearby needs a hand with theirs. They can make flyers to put up around the neighborhood with their contact information and rates. It’s perfect for an easy weekend job.

10. Restaurant Crew Member

Sometimes restaurants hire part-time high school students. Positions available are most likely host/hostess, busser, or dishwasher. If your teen has any interest in hospitality, it would be a fine first job to get their foot in the door of an industry they are looking at for a career.

Tips for Balancing High School and a Part-Time Job

Here are some easy ways that your high schooler can balance going to high school and a part-time job.

• Limit shifts during the school week. It can be difficult to balance school, homework, extracurriculars, and a job.
• Find a job that only needs you on the weekends. This way you can focus on school during the week and get adequate rest.
• Work during the summer. You can spend extra time earning money when school is out and not have to worry about your grades or school work.

Working part-time while in high school can be a very positive experience. It’s a great way to learn how to manage your time and responsibilities. It’s important to remember that as a student, your schooling always comes first.

Part-time job is the kind of work a person does for a fewer hours per week allowing an individual to explore different other aspects of his or her character. While in many countries it is common for students to work part time allowing them the freedom to learn their course practically, allowing better knowledge about their subject. Some people are of the opinion, that a job during the student years take away the time and attention required during education.

Doing a part time job while studying surely ensures a more practical knowledge about a subject to the student. For example, a student doing a course on mechanical engineering is more likely to know about what he or she is studying when they get to work on the real tools in real life scenario. Even more, part time jobs allow students to become more independent. Most students are seen to save money from their part time jobs for their graduation.

However, odd jobs are very tough to handle for students. They need to focus not only on their studies but also work, leaving them drained off, with no social life. It has been even observed that some student leave their education to work, while in many cases there have been positive results, in many the students were left with neither a good job nor a better education.

Overall, part time jobs offer more exposure to the students about their subjects, if chosen wrongly, it can leave the person drained off to pursue other plans. In my opinion, an individual should do a part time job, but it should always be something that he or she loves to do and enhances their personality.

Many people are of the opinion that part time jobs allow an individual to explore his or interest early in life while others believe that more often a part time jobs leave the person drained off to pursue future plans.

Odd jobs surely help an individual to grow, to perform better and work on the different skills that he or she has. For example, a person may like writing, but when he or she starts working as a part time writer they get to know the seriousness of their interest. Also, a part time job worker is less likely to get a promotion as compared to a regular worker. In conclusion, nothing is perfect. Maintaining a job while studying is not what everyone can do. It demands lot of focus from the individual. However, in my opinion a person who is able to do it, is more likely to benefit more than his or her counter parts.

How did Raygun qualify for the Olympics? Is she really the best Australia has to offer?

Since Australian breaker Rachael "Raygun" Gunn failed to score a single point in any of her Olympic bouts, many have asked how she qualified for the Games.

Fellow breaker and anthropologist Lucas Marie says she won her qualification "fair and square" last year, but African American man Malik Dixon has criticised the Olympic body for letting her in.

What's next?

Breaking will not be an event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games — a decision made before Raygun's performance.

The 2024 Paris Olympics marked breaking's debut as a sport at the global event, with 36-year-old lecturer and breaker Rachael "Raygun" Gunn representing Australia for the first time.

Having failed to win a single point in any of her Olympic bouts, Raygun quickly became a viral sensation.

The question on many people's minds now is: How did she even qualify?

Lucas Marie is a breaker who has competed, performed, taught and judged breaking competitions over the past 25 years. He's also an anthropologist who recently co-authored an article with Gunn.

He says the answer to that question is simple.

"There was an Oceania qualifier in which any B-boy or B-girl from Australia [or] New Zealand could enter, and that was in Sydney in October 2023," he told ABC News.

"And leading up to that, there were a lot of other events in which breakers were competing.

"She won those battles fair and square and won the qualification in Sydney.

"And it wasn't really a surprise to anyone. 

"She's been fairly consistent, winning or coming second or third at a lot of breaking events in Australia for the last five to 10 years."

Marie said there was nothing out of the ordinary about Raygun's performance.

"It's not like gymnastics where there's this kind of agreed-upon standard," he said.

"It's always had a rawness to it. It's always had an improvisational kind of quality. And I think looking different and trying different stuff has always been celebrated.

"And I think Raygun, in a way, was just expressing a core kind of hip hop trait in a way a lot of breakers do."

He described her efforts as bold.

"I thought — and this is how I judge a lot of breaking events — I thought, 'Oh, she's making some really interesting choices to mimic Australian animals.' And you can kind of see the choices that she's making in the moment."

Is she the best Australia has to offer?

Team Australia chef de mission Anna Meares insisted after Raygun's performance that she was the best breaker the country had to offer. But is this true?

"It's sometimes just who's performing better on the day," Marie said.

"And at the qualification event in which she won, and other events in which she's won, she performed better on that day and won the ticket.

"That doesn't mean she's the best. It doesn't really work like that.

"I think she's a great breaker. She won the qualification. She's won other events in the past, and she was a good representative for Australia at that competition."

Asked whether there were B-girls in Perth, regional Victoria or rural Brisbane who might have qualified but could not afford to travel to Sydney for the tryouts, Marie agreed this was possible.

"Of course, there's breakers all over the country that maybe should have been in that event, but they weren't."

Breaking will not carry over to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, a decision made before Raygun's battle.

Marie described this as sad.

"Maybe, based on the ratings, they'll reassess that and maybe allocate some medals to breaking," he said.

"I really hope that's the case, and I hope that for other breakers who want to compete in it as a dance sport."

Marie said that at the end of the day people should remember they were dealing with a human.

"As a friend of Rachael's, there's a human being who's getting a lot of negative attention," he said.

"I think people kind of miss that sometimes and forget the human aspect of all this."

'Toying with the culture'

Malik Dixon is an African American who has been living in Australia for more than a decade and is a Sydney University graduate.

He said Raygun made a total "mockery" out of breaking at the Olympics.

"She was dressed like a member of the cricket team or an Australian PE teacher, and from that point it just seemed like satire," Mr Dixon told ABC News.

"It just looked like somebody who was toying with the culture and didn't know how culturally significant it was being the first time in the Olympics and just how important it was to people who really cherish hip hop and one of the elements of hip hop, which is breakdancing.

"It made me think, was Borat her breakdancing coach?"

Mr Dixon said too many people felt entitled to African American culture.

"The African American space has been one where we've shared our community so much and without any restraints, any barriers, roadblocks, obstacles, any gatekeepers, that essentially what should have been African American cultural capital is just shared, which is cool," he said. 

"We like to share, right? 

"We shared 400 years of free labour.

"To see Rachael in her attempt to be a part of the culture just be grossly underwhelming made it seem like she didn't take it seriously."

Olympics body criticised for Raygun qualification

Mr Dixon criticised the body that qualified Raygun, saying she devalued breaking with her performance.

"Whatever governing body nominated her as Australia's entrant into the Olympics either did not understand the assignment or didn't really believe in the integrity or significance of breakdancing, because if they did they would just say, rather than disrespect the culture, we're just not ready to send an applicant this year."

He said Raygun was extremely audacious and not self-aware.

"You've got to know your role, know your position, know your limitation," he said. 

"And I think that part of privilege is saying that there are no limits to what I can do. 

"Part of privilege is having the authority to say that there are no limits and there are no requirements, there are no prerequisites to what I can do."

Raygun's degrees do not hold much water with Mr Dixon.

"Due to consumerism, this Foundational Black American product, which is hip hop, is global," he said.

"And even people who have no connection to any African Americans or any local or regional things that come out in these songs, they have become a part of the whole experience now.

"If I came in and said that I was an authority on Greek music and I was going against the grain of what the mainstream Greek musicians thought, or the school of thought, and I've said that I was the authority, people would check me on that.

"If I had a PhD in sprinting, does that qualify me to go against Noah Lyles? No, it doesn't."

He also doubts Raygun was the best breaker Australia had to offer.

"[There's] got to be somebody out here that's better than that! The kangaroo! The sprinkler! She did the sprinkler out there, man!" he said.

Should everybody just lighten up?

Should we lighten up? Mr Dixon does not believe so.

"Larrikinism is used as a get-out-of-jail-free card and to escape responsibility of how words or actions impact a hurt person," he said.

"But when the majority culture is offended, there's no playing around.

"This is a part of my culture, and I don't think Australians are in a place to tell me how I should feel about breakdancing being mocked on an international stage.

"People who don't have any or limited access to black people or hip hop culture now may see Rachael and her buffoonery as a representation of hip hop and black culture.

"People who were already side-eyeing breakdancing as an Olympic sport, Rachael Gunn has put the nail in that coffin.

"This might be the most viral clip of the whole Olympics. From a comedy standpoint, she's got it, but from an Olympics perspective, its regressive."

Oryol Oblast - Overview

Oryol Oblast is a federal subject of Russia located in the south-west of the European part of the country, part of the Central Federal District. Oryol is the capital city of the region.

The population of Oryol Oblast is about 714,100 (2022), the area - 24,652 sq. km.

History of oryol oblast.

The territory of today’s Oryol Oblast was settled in the late Paleolithic. In the chronicles of the 12th century, the towns of Mtsensk, Novosil, Kromy were mentioned. At that time, the area was part of the Chernigov principality.

About 400 years later, the town-fortresses of Bolkhov, Oryol, Livny were founded. In the 16th-17th centuries, this region was the borderland of the Russian state. It was a place where more than once battles against the nomads took place, dramatic events of the Time of Troubles occurred here too.

As the threat from the nomads reduced, agricultural colonization of the area began. Oryol became a large grain-producing town. Standing on the Oka River, it became a large bread market, which provided Moscow with crops and flour.

Oryol Governorate was established by the decree of Catherine II in 1778. It included a considerable part of the present Bryansk and Lipetsk regions.

From the second half of the 19th century, railways and highways connected Oryol with Moscow and Ukraine, Baltic and Volga regions. The city became a large transport hub. Before 1917, Oryol had a cadet school, theological seminary, several gymnasiums (P.A.Stolypin, Prime Minister of the Russian Empire in 1906-1911, graduated from one of them).

In autumn 1919, bloody battles between the White Army and the Red Army took place near Oryol and Kromy. Oryol Oblast was formed on September 27, 1937. In 1944, Bryansk Oblast was separated from Oryol Oblast. In 1954, nine eastern districts were separated from Oryol Oblast with the formation of Lipetsk Oblast.

This region became a place of severe battles during the Second World War - the front line passed through the region over 20 months. When Oryol was liberated, the first fireworks during the war was fired in Moscow on August 5, 1943.

Oryol Oblast - Features

Oryol Oblast is located in the forest-steppe zone. The length of the territory from north to south is over 150 km, from west to east - more than 200 km. The climate is temperate continental. The average temperature in January is minus 6.7 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 20.5 degrees Celsius. The largest cities are Oryol (298,200), Livny (46,800) and Mtsensk (35,500).

The Oka River, one of the largest rivers in Europe, originates in the south of the region. There are deposits of iron ore, lignite, phosphate, limestone, clay, sand, peat, chalk. Uranium ore deposits are found in the south-east.

The local economy has a strong industrial and agricultural character. The main industries are machine-building, food and production of construction materials. Agriculture is concentrated on raising dairy and meat cattle, pigs, poultry and horses.

The main highways passing through the territory of the Oryol region: M2 “Crimea”, R119 Oryol - Tambov, R120 Oryol - Vitebsk, R92 Oryol - Kaluga. The main railway is Moscow - Kharkov - Simferopol line. Public transport in Oryol is presented by trams, trolleybuses and buses.

The wonderful nature of central Russia, rich cultural traditions were the foundation on which a number of famous Russian gifted persons were nurtured. The Oryol region was the birthplace of I.S.Turgenev, N.S.Leskov, L.N.Andreyev, A.N.Apukhtin, A.A.Fet, philosophers S.N.Bulgakov, M.M.Bakhtin, historian T.N.Granovsky. The lives of F.I.Tyutchev, I.A.Bunin, M.M.Prishvin are connected with this region.

Attractions of Oryol Oblast

Oryol Oblast is compact and very convenient to travel by car. The distance from Oryol to Moscow is about 360 km. Several old Russian towns are located on the territory of the region: Mtsensk (1146), Novosil (1155), Livny (1177 and 1586), Bolkhov (1196).

The State Memorial and Natural Reserve Museum of Ivan Turgenev “Spasskoye-Lutovinovo” - a complex of manor buildings with a magnificent park, located 60 kilometers from Oryol and 12 km from Mtsensk. This is the most popular attraction of the Oryol region.

The National Park “Oryol Polesie” - recreational areas located on the territory of Hotynetsky and Znamensky districts, a place with unique nature, rich historical and cultural heritage. This is the largest woodland in the Oryol region (33,000 hectares).

Bolkhov is considered the most beautiful town in the region. In this small town with a population of about 11,000 people, there are 12 churches and one monastery. Bolkhov stands on hills on the high bank of the Nugr River. From almost anywhere you can enjoy wonderful views of the town and surrounding area.

Since Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota was announced as the Democratic nominee for vice president, the Trump campaign and its allies have gone on the attack.

Mr. Walz, a former teacher and football coach from Nebraska who served in the National Guard, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006 and then as Minnesota’s governor in 2018. His branding of former President Donald J. Trump as “weird” this year caught on among Democrats and helped catapult him into the national spotlight and to the top of Vice President Kamala Harris’s list of potential running mates.

The Republican accusations, which include questions over his military service , seem intended at undercutting a re-energized campaign after President Biden stepped aside and Ms. Harris emerged as his replacement at the top of the ticket. Mr. Trump and his allies have criticized, sometimes inaccurately, Mr. Walz’s handling of protests in his state, his immigration policies, his comments about a ladder factory and the redesign of his state’s flag.

Here’s a fact check of some claims.

What Was Said

“Because if we remember the rioting in the summer of 2020, Tim Walz was the guy who let rioters burn down Minneapolis.” — Senator JD Vance of Ohio, the Republican nominee for vice president, during a rally on Wednesday in Philadelphia

This is exaggerated. Mr. Walz has faced criticism for not quickly activating the National Guard to quell civil unrest in Minneapolis in the summer of 2020 after the murder of George Floyd by a police officer. But claims that he did not respond at all, or that the city burned down, are hyperbolic.

Mr. Floyd was murdered on May 25, 2020, and demonstrators took to the streets the next day . The protests intensified, with some vandalizing vehicles and setting fires. More than 700 state troopers and officers with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ mobile response team were deployed on May 26 to help the city’s police officers, according to a 2022 independent assessment by the state’s Department of Public Safety of the response to the unrest.
