The possibility to carry out sports activities is one of the factors which increase the quality of life for the citizens of a city. The city of Bratislava ranks among the biggest places of sport activities in Slovakia. Most of the sport facilities were, however, built in the past century; therefore they do not fulfill the demands of technical condition, economic efficiency, do not meet the international criteria of professional sport and do not meet the broad spectrum of the modern sport activities, especially for the younger age group users. It is needed to modernize and build the new sport buildings in all areas of sport, at school sports, sport for all and also in professional and performance sport activities. In accordance with the new trends in design of sports facilities, there is a need to reduce servicing costs, to improve implementation of technologies that increase the quality, safety and economy efficiency. The priority is the creation of multifunctional or hybrid facilit...
Olympic sport venues are constructed with the form needed for the specific sport held inside which varies the typologies of sport venues. Apart from the form, different types of sports also requires different building performance requirements. Among all; designing aquatic centres is harder than most of the other sport facilities. Challenges like; covering a wide span, water and vapour control, hygiene related issues, mechanical installations etc. and highly complex and sophisticated Olympic game requirements make aquatic centres highly valuable. Olympic Game re-shape the built environment of the city. New sport venues and infrastructural components are important factors effecting the city’s social life and promotion. Until 1960s, sport facilities was more functional buildings, which aimed mainly the sport events as a building program. Especially after 70's, sport buildings focused also the social life of the city which transforms venues to be the landmarks of the city. Hosting Olympic Games is hard work of planning. One of the main challenges of the hosting country is the construction of large scale facilities and infrastructures in a limited time. The second important challenge is re-functioning these facilities after the Games.Turkey has attempted to host the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2020 Olympic Games but didn’t succeeded yet. A national aquatics centre has been constructed in Ataköy, İstanbul before the first attempt to host Olympics. In terms of building performance requirements and FINA requirements, this building is appropriate. But today venues for Olympic Games have to be more unique and visionary for the future of their sports. Olympic venues also have to provoke people and their social life about sports. Thus in the final attempt the government has announced the construction of new facilities to promote Turkey’s chance on hosting. In the paper; 5 different aquatics centres of the most recent Games has been analysed and the musts have been tried to be found out about the architectural style and concept of aquatics centres. At the end, suggestions about the possible future Aquatics Centre of Turkey are listed.

The article presents the ideas of flexible design in the construction sector. Flexibility in the construction sector was discussed and defined between typical and flexible approaches to design. The idea applied during the economic effectiveness analysis of construction projects was introduced. The issue of flexibility was discussed based on the example of construction of a sports facility - The National Stadium in Warsaw. An effectiveness analysis was applied for variant solutions.

Rarely, open to the public, these stadiums stay empty and their potential use is never fully realised. This thesis re-imagines these venues as a multi-sport facility and introduces an initial planning strategy that is inviting to the inhabitants of the city.
The economic benefits of publicly funded sports stadiums are overstated (a majority of sports stadiums in the United States). There is increasing evidence that stadiums have little positive impact on local economic growth and the benefits from these teams do not justify the public investment (Eckstein & Delaney 2002, 235).
In today’s urban world, many cities have built new sporting facilities in concentrated parts of the city or have augmented existing infrastructure to create themed sports zones in recent...
