The surviving and thriving companies are persistent in being relevant and competitive in an ever-changing marketplace. When it comes to sustainability, these companies are obligated to have new ideas that would provide consumer satisfaction, but sometimes poorly-researched marketing ideas are deficient. Slacking off research analysis can discourage the company’s drive to swift decision making and essential techniques for success. What is the way around this?
According to Forbes, business decision-makers can consider the data and statistics from researches as a platform to understand the present and past characteristics and trends. This way, focusing on areas to sample plan , build, test, and emerge capitals for the customers’ needs and wants can be easily prioritized. But, for this process to be efficient, a framework should exist for well-defined measures that can track and report a continuous basis. This is when marketing research comes into the picture.
Before marketing research comes through, a proposal has to take place first. What is a marketing research proposal? It is simply put as a detailed suggestion in conducting marketing research. This proposal will explain who, what, when, where, and how of the research and overview of the sample planning process. The approval of the research depends on the decision of your team, whether to push through the study or not. More so, it will give you time to think about the impact of the research.
A proposal should foster the continuity of marketing plan . To achieve that, you need to come up with a strong proposal that will make your team stick to the process. Drafting the proposal could be a difficult start, but once you aim for success, that should be enough to drive you through the last lap. Here are some steps that you can follow through in making a proposal for marketing research as well as conducting the study.
A lot of times, you have to struggle in the industry so that you will learn how things work out. Your hard-earned lessons are good ways to start a marketing research proposal. If there is a problem that you want to address, and it leaves you with more questions, then never let the curiosity fall behind. The great research proposals are the ones that provide knowledge of the research instrument, explains the work plan , and indicate research cost. Also, it should provide a well-structured writing style.
Considering research takes a lot of discussions and debates about whether to go forth or not. Note that great things do not happen overnight, and it should be normal for your team to have long talks. Before the research statement proper, the basic questions that you should include in your discussions are: Who are your customers? What do they want to buy? Why do they purchase? What will make them consider your product beneficial? However, this could be insufficient if you want to know more specific information. On top of this, provide more ideas to test a new method so that you can be fluid with your decision-making.
In conducting the research, you should know that there could be no answers to all of your queries. So, make sure to focus on the attainable requirements that you are to set for your research paper essay . That way, you can slowly build up its framework as you continue working on how to gather more information. You can gather insights from customers by interviewing them through telephones. Or you can utilize social media, like Facebook, to get a grasp on people’s preferences based on their likes and dislikes.
It is a good idea to connect with external organizations so that you can access existing research. However, before partnering with them, make sure that they understand the objectives of your business and to why you need to push through the research. This way, you can ensure that their ideas have to align with yours. More so, work closely with your partners because it makes decision-making receive more attention.
Marketing research has two types: quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative research gathers data through interviews in the phone, email, internet, or in-person. On the other hand, qualitative research uses large numbers for its data gathering, which include hundreds or surveys to attain responses.
The importance of marketing research comes along with its purpose. Every business analysis relies on data and statistics in making decisions; that is why marketing research provides relevant, accurate, reliable, valid, and updated market information.
Marketplaces are made to coexist with other businesses. Hence, without potential customers, competitors, and other market players, a market would not exist.
Impulsiveness has no place in the business industry. You cannot make decisions based on what you want. Every step the business has to take should rely on data analysis and statistics. This way, the success of the marketing strategy is influenced by real-time results with an unquestionable basis. Your business, as a growing organization, could be the next big thing in the industry if you work hard on researching what people and your business are willing to bargain with.

The importance of a market research proposal template.
As a market researcher, I understand the importance of creating a comprehensive and well-organized market research proposal. This document serves as a roadmap for our research process , outlining the objectives, methodology, and timeline for our project. However, creating a proposal from scratch can be time-consuming and challenging. That’s where a market research proposal template comes in. This template provides a structured framework for developing a thorough and professional proposal , saving time and ensuring that all necessary components are included. In this article, we will explore the key elements of a market research proposal template and discuss why it is an essential tool for any successful market research project.
Market Research Proposal Template
Executive summary.
The purpose of this section is to provide a brief overview of the market research proposal. It should include the objectives of the research, the methodology that will be used, and the expected outcomes .
Example: In this market research proposal, we aim to investigate the buying behavior of millennials in the automobile industry. We will utilize a combination of surveys, focus groups, and data analysis to understand the preferences and decision-making process of this demographic. The expected outcome is to provide actionable insights for automobile companies to effectively target and appeal to millennials.
My advice on: The executive summary is a crucial part of the market research proposal as it sets the tone for the rest of the document. It should be concise yet informative, capturing the essence of the research project .
This section outlines the specific goals and objectives of the market research. It should clearly define what the research aims to achieve and how it will contribute to the organization’s strategies.
Example: The objectives of this market research include: 1. To identify the key factors influencing millennials’ purchasing decisions in the automobile industry. 2. To understand the perception of various automobile brands among millennials. 3. To determine the most effective marketing channels to reach millennials.
My advice on: When outlining the objectives, it is important to be specific and measurable. This will provide a clear direction for the research and allow for meaningful conclusions to be drawn.
Methodology
This section details the approach and methods that will be used to conduct the market research. It should include a description of the research design , data collection techniques, and data analysis methods .
Example: The methodology will involve a combination of quantitative and qualitative research. Surveys will be conducted to gather numerical data on purchasing preferences and behaviors, while focus groups will provide in-depth insights into millennials’ attitudes towards different automobile brands. Data analysis will include statistical techniques to identify trends and patterns.
My advice on: When describing the methodology, it is important to justify the choice of methods and demonstrate their suitability for the research objectives . This will help to establish the credibility of the research approach .
This section provides a detailed timeline for the market research project. It should outline the key milestones and deliverables, as well as the estimated timeframes for each stage of the research.
Example: – Research planning and design: 1 month – Survey administration: 2 weeks – Focus group discussions: 3 weeks – Data analysis and report writing : 1 month
My advice on: The timeline should be realistic and achievable, taking into account any potential obstacles or delays. It should also be well-structured to ensure that the research progresses smoothly.
This section outlines the estimated budget for the market research project. It should include a breakdown of costs for each aspect of the research, such as participant recruitment , data collection, and analysis.
Example: – Survey administration: $5,000 – Focus group discussions: $7,000 – Data analysis software : $3,000 – Research report writing: $2,000
My advice on: The budget should be carefully considered and realistic, taking into account all necessary expenses. It is important to justify the costs and demonstrate the value that the research will provide.
This section summarizes the key points of the market research proposal and reiterates the importance of the research in achieving the organization’s goals.
Example: The proposed market research will provide invaluable insights into the preferences and behaviors of millennials in the automobile industry. By understanding their decision-making process and perceptions of different brands, automobile companies will be able to tailor their marketing strategies and product offerings to better appeal to this demographic.
My advice on: The conclusion should leave a lasting impression and emphasize the significance of the research. It should reinforce the value of the proposed research in driving business growth and success.
By using these examples, individuals can gain a better understanding of how to structure and develop each section of a market research proposal. The detailed and in-depth writing provides a clear guide on what should be included in each part of the template, while the first-person advice offers practical tips on how to effectively approach each section. Ultimately, these examples can be used to improve the quality and impact of a market research proposal, ensuring that it is thorough, well-structured, and compelling.

What is a Marketing research proposal?
A marketing research proposal is a document designed to sell your services by showing potential clients the research that you will carry out for their project. Whether you’re a freelance marketing consultant or you have your own marketing agency, a market research proposal will cover what research needs to be done, how you’ll go about it, and why they should choose you for the project.
A proposal is typically one of the first points of contact that you have with an organization. Therefore, it’s a chance to make a strong first impression.

What to include in the Marketing research proposal
A market research proposal will outline your market research plan and each critical step you need to take to perform the necessary research. It usually consists of three parts.
- Introduction: This includes project objectives and scope, target market, and methodology, including data collection methods.
- Discussion: This covers existing knowledge of the market, case studies or competitor analysis, a project timeline, proposed budget, deliverables, and ethical considerations.
- Summary: This concludes what you expect to achieve from the market research, how it will support the initial objectives, and why your company is the best for the job.
Introduction
At the top of any market research proposal template should be the title of your document followed by who it has been written by and who it’s for. You can also include both company addresses here if you wish.
Proceed to outline the project description and the purpose of performing the market research. What are you trying to achieve? Why is this research needed? Who will be conducting it? What problem are you trying to solve for the client?
You should also include a methodology section in your introduction. The research methodology should dive into what primary and secondary research will be conducted, how data will be collected, and the expected outcomes. As a freelance researcher, you’ll already know this, but it’s worth covering what’s included in each to the client:
- Primary research is research that you carry out yourself in the form of two research methods: qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research relies on first-hand observation from things like interviews, questionnaires, and focus groups. Quantitative research, on the other hand, relies on the collection and analysis of data from an online survey and polls.
- Secondary research is research that has already been published and comes from secondary sources. This may include academic literature, print publications, and online studies.
It’s important to give an overview of your target audience in your methodology too.
For instance, if your client is trying to determine whether it’s a good time to launch a new product, your methodology in your market research proposal would explain how you plan to arrange a focus group with their target audience of females aged 16-24. Being present in the meeting, asking the right questions, and making notes to refer to later on would confirm whether the prospective product could be useful and — ultimately — successful.
The discussion section of your marketing research proposal is typically the meatiest. It’s where you should demonstrate what you already know about the industry and company, while getting into the finer details of the market research project.
- Existing Industry Knowledge: Prospective clients are likely going to want to hire someone who knows what they’re talking about. Right? Demonstrate that’s you by discussing the market and how it’s being affected in terms of the PEST analysis (politically, economically, socioculturally, and technologically). You can also cover case studies or a competitor analysis of companies that have already undertaken the same research and achieved similar goals.
- Timeline: For the research items that you listed in your methodology, include time frames of when each one will be conducted. You don’t have to be super precise here — it’s more about giving your client a realistic idea of the timings of key project milestones. However, exact details can be tweaked and laid out in a marketing research contract once your proposal and project quote has been approved.
- Proposed Budget: Any market research proposal template has to include a budgeting section. This is where you would break down how much you expect the research to cost, while offsetting it with how the client can make the most out of their investment. Just like with the timeline, the information doesn’t have to be exact at this stage. It’s more a rough estimate to ensure that the project expectations of both parties align.
- Deliverables: This section should answer any questions that a prospective client may have on the general organization of the project. In other words, it should tell them how you plan to present the research and its findings, whether it’s in the form of a one-off report, series of meetings, or collaborative Google Docs. You may choose to hand-deliver a printed copy of your findings or email through a PDF file. Either way, this section is a significant part of a market research proposal as the findings taken from the document need to be actionable by the marketing team.
- Ethical Considerations: This part of the market research proposal should outline any ethical issues that may arise throughout the course of your research, from conflicts of interest to concerns about supplier relationships. It should also cover how you plan to deal with participants, data gathering, and privacy issues before the project has even begun.
For example, you may write something like the following: “Each participant will be told that their input in this research is voluntary. They will be provided with a form to assure them that their data will remain confidential for the purposes of this research and won’t be used by third parties. They must sign this form in person or we can accept digital signatures to consent to these terms.”
The summary tends to be the shortest section of your market research proposal. It’s where you would refer back to the initial project objectives and conclude the desired outcomes from the market research.
It’s a good idea to end on a punchy note by describing why your potential client should become an actual client.
- What can your company offer to this project that no other company can?
- Why are you the perfect person or team to perform the research?
- What makes this proposal unique?
Don’t lose sight of the fact that you’re trying to convince somebody (or some people) of your value. You want them to take action after reading your proposal, which is why you should include a compelling Call-To-Action (CTA). Let them know what the next steps entail, and how to take them.
How to write a Marketing research proposal
The truth is, it’s difficult to draft a market research proposal without some key information from your prospective client.
To gather all of the details you need to create a winning marketing research proposal, follow the below steps.
Find out exactly what the client wants to achieve
During your initial email or phone discussion, ask your client what they want to get out of the research. Are they rebranding and want to redefine their target market? Or are they testing out a new product with a small group of people before unleashing it to the masses?
Either way, it’s useful to know their final goals so that you can start to make a plan on how to help them achieve them.
Discuss the finer details
Alongside your prospective client’s research objectives, you need to find out more details in terms of their:
- Target demographics
- Project deadline
- Project budget
You should also ask them if there’s any other key information that they would like you to include in the market research proposal. This will ensure that you have everything you need upfront without having to make extensive edits later on.
Figure out what sets you apart
Keep in mind that you haven’t been awarded the job yet. A work proposal is essentially a sales document — it almost serves as a resume before the client decides that you’re the ideal person to hire.
As such, do some company research to put you ahead of your competition. Is there a link you can make with the company based on your background and interests? Why should they care about you? What do you offer that no one else does?
Be sure to feature all of this information in your market researching proposal, and don’t be afraid of highlighting your strengths and wins.

The perfect length is between 1-2 pages, but try to ensure that it’s no more than 3.

Marketing Proposal Template
Whether you are pitching a branding, marketing, or advertising campaign, you need to create a proposal that explains how you will help your client promote and expand their business. You can adapt this template to suit just about any marketing project.
HubSpot Tip: Every proposal should be client-centered, so be sure to update this template to meet the specific needs of your customer.
Our Company and Team
Whether you are submitting this proposal to a long-time or brand new client, it is always a good idea to provide a brief introduction to your company and team. No more than a paragraph is needed. Include key information like when and by whom your marketing firm was founded, what your major strengths are, and any similar work that you have completed in the past.
Our Services
Provide a summary of the marketing, branding, and/or advertising work that your company does. Be broad. Include all of the kinds of services you offer, even ones that you might not be proposing to this client at this time. You can organize them in a bulleted list like the one below.
• Service 1
• Service 2
• Service 3
The Proposed Team
In this section, you should provide information on the relevant skills and experience of your proposed team members. Provide brief profiles of each of the staff who will work on this project, indicating their name, title, role on the project, special skills, relevant qualifications, and education. You can also mention successes on similar work in the past. Consider organizing this section with bullets, as shown below.
• Team Member 1, Title – Profile
• Team Member 2, Title – Profile
• Team Member 3, Title – Profile
HubSpot Tip: You can include professional headshots for each of your team members to personalize your proposal. Be sure that the look of the photographs is uniform across the team members and matches the overall design of the proposal.
Project Scope
Now that you have introduced your company and team, you should indicate your understanding of the client’s needs and the project you will conduct in order to meet their specific requirements.
Begin by giving an overview of the project. Items you might discuss include the situational analysis, challenges and issues, and the target market and customers. This section should set the stage to introduce your proposed solution.
Proposed Solution
Explain to the client the activities you will undertake in order to meet their needs. If possible, break the activities into phases. You should also indicate any deliverables that will be submitted to the client under each phase. Organize these items in a table like the one below.
Deliverables
• Activity 1 • Activity 2
• Deliverable 1
• Activity 3 • Activity 4 • Activity 5
• Deliverable 2 • Deliverable 3
• Activity 6
• Deliverable 4
In some cases, just a table may suffice, but you might also consider including additional narrative to explain your methods more fully.
Projected Outcome
In a paragraph or two, describe what your proposed solution will achieve for the client. Try to ensure that your outcomes are measurable. Provide a brief explanation of how you will evaluate success on this project.
HubSpot Tip: If there are key parts of the project that the client will be responsible for, be sure to indicate them in your proposal. Don’t surprise your client with requests for work once the project has started!
Project Schedule
After describing the steps in your project plan, you should align them to a timeline to show the customer how the project will unfold and when each step will occur. Including a schedule boosts your credibility and shows the client that you have a plan for executing the project on time. You can use a simple table, like the one that follows, to depict the project schedule.
Completion Date
HubSpot Tip: Be sure to set reasonable deadlines. It is much better to turn in a product early than to set an unreasonable deadline and be forced to make a late submission!
Your Investment
This section should outline the cost to the client of all of the necessary activities and items to complete this marketing project. Some of your costs might be billed with an hourly rate and others might be charged as a flat fee. Keeping with the same organization by Phase and Activity that you have used throughout the proposal, present all of the costs clearly in a format like the one below.
Activity/Item
Hourly Rate/Flat Fee
Estimated Hours/Quantity
HubSpot Tip: Accuracy is important! Consider reproducing this table in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Word and doing the calculations there, then copying them into the template. Nothing looks more unprofessional than a math error in the middle of your proposal!
Make your contact information impossible to miss, in case the client has any questions as they review your proposal. Include multiple ways to get in touch with you quickly, for example, an email address and a phone number.
HubSpot Tip: Make getting in touch as easy as possible for the client. If you know your client’s preferred method of communication is email, then be sure to provide your email address and be ready to respond quickly. If they prefer to speak by phone, give them a number at which they can reach you anytime during the workweek.
Contract and Signatures
Explain the next steps required to approve the proposal. You most likely need your client’s signature, so include customized signature lines for everyone who needs to sign, like shown below.
________________________
[Name], [Role]
You should also include your company’s contract details indicating the specific terms and conditions for this project.
HubSpot Tip: Including signature lines directly in the document can speed up the approval process by limiting the number of documents that need to change hands.
Additional Materials
If you have additional information you would like to provide to the client, you can include it in an Appendix. Some examples might include case studies of past work, a portfolio of your branding or advertising work, or sample products that you have created for past clients.
HubSpot Tip: Past experience is the best indicator of future success! Including examples of your best past work at the end of your proposal provides evidence of your knowledge and capabilities.

Title of the research

What is a market research proposal? A market research proposal is a document that sells your services to potential clients by showing them what they can accomplish by hiring you to complete their project or research study. It includes a summary, objectives, existing knowledge, intended outcomes, target demographics, data collection methods, a detailed research methodology, a project timeline, proposed budget, ethical considerations, and further outcomes.
Through this market research project, [research title] , we aim to provide more information for [client] regarding market trends in the area. The following summary will give an overview of the causes, processes, and possible effects of the market research proposal detailed below.
Based on our conversation with [Client First Name] with [Client Company] , we know that your goals for this research include [objective] and [objective] We will use a variety of qualitative and quantitative processes to collect and analyze the latest market data. This process will allow you to assess the potential market for your new product and how best to advertise it.
The primary client objectives for this research involve:
- Defining the target market for [Client Company] ’s new product
- Developing the marketing strategies for this project
- Defining the marketing objectives for each individual marketing strategy
2. Objectives
The overall purpose of this market research study is to develop a marketing strategy for [Client Company] ’s newest product. Specific objectives to be addressed as a result of the study are:
- Determine which features are most important to the target market to develop marketing strategies that communicate these benefits to clients.
- Determine brand awareness for existing [Client Company] products, creating a better understanding of the existing customer pool for your new product.
- Understand messaging preferences for target customers and what triggers them to buy.
- Create marketing objectives for the new product.
3. Existing knowledge
Based on our initial prospecting call with [Client First Name] at [Client Company Name] , we know that this product will complement an existing product line. This line’s most successful target market is women between the ages of 20 and 40 with an annual household income between $50,000 and $75,000.
Other companies in this industry have successfully launched similar products that are currently selling well with your target demographic. Last year [Client Industry] revenues topped [$dollar amount] .
By researching what features clients most desire in [Client Company] ’s new product, you will have a better understanding of their triggers. You can tailor your marketing strategy to highlight these features and tell the story of how they benefit target customers, capture new customers and build market share.
4. Intended outcomes
Based on our experience, we believe that the study will allow [Client Company] to:
- Gain an understanding of existing brand awareness among the target audience
- Gain an understanding of how the new product meets client needs
- Gain an understanding of how much target customers are willing to pay for the new product
- Identify any potential competitors already on the market
You can use these results to tailor your marketing messages and chosen marketing channels to better target your desired market. By better understanding how your product meets customer needs, you can develop ad strategies to communicate its benefits.
5. Target demographics
Our research process will begin in-house with [Client Company] ’s marketing team. We will evaluate annual reports, sales reports, research and development reports, and other existing data to confirm that our target market is correct.
Based on our initial call and background research, this study will target 200 individuals from households of different sizes within your service area. From our initial research, we have determined that this study will likely target women between the ages of 20 and 40 with an annual income of between $35,000 and $100,000, but specifics will be determined following interviews with [Client Company] . Focused research methodologies will be used to determine what features of the new product they find most beneficial as well as their current level of awareness of [Client Company] and their preferred marketing channels.
6. Data collection
To meet the objectives of the project, we will perform the following data collection methods. Data collection methods will be suited to the project at hand and will include:
- Focus groups
- Collection of social media data
- Surveys via the Internet, phone, or email
- Intercept surveys
- Client interviews
- Mystery shopping
- Long-range, in-home consumer tests
- Distribution of samples
- In-person promotions
Focus groups are a proven method for gathering data from your target sample. We will conduct up to five focus group meetings consisting of no more than 10 participants. In our experience, smaller groups allow us to collect data from more participants, and they are easier to control.
Each focus group will last for about an hour, and participants will receive a $5 gift card for their time. Focus groups will be conducted in our conference rooms.
We will also conduct a randomly distributed mail survey to collect data from a representative sample within your service area. The survey will also be made available online. Customers who receive the mail survey will be given an access code to take the survey online, and their responses will be kept separate from general online responses to maintain a random sample.
To capture additional responses, we will display QR codes in targeted locations to promote the online survey. We suggest offering an incentive to people who take the survey such as an entry to a prize drawing or a coupon from [Client Company] .
Along with focus groups and surveys, we recommend conducting intercept polls of people in the desired target market shopping near retail chains that currently carry [Client Company] ’s products.
7. Approach
This research study will include a blend of qualitative and quantitative research methods, primarily utilizing the data collection methods listed above. Since your objectives include [objective] our research methods have been tailored to reach your desired demographics. In our previous experience, we have found that this demographic responds well to our proposed methodology.
The study will provide beneficial data to your company by focusing on the following key topics:
- Objective focus area 1
- Objective focus area 2
- Objective focus area 3
Potential limitations to the study methods include survey fatigue. Most companies include customer satisfaction surveys at every customer touchpoint, and people are less receptive to taking a survey. This has made it more difficult to capture user opinions using traditional survey methods.
To counteract survey fatigue, we will supplement survey data with a mix of qualitative and quantitative research. We will gather information from industry reports, online interactions, social media metrics, and in-person research to generate accurate and useful data.
To reach younger members of your target demographic, we propose offering digital engagement tools including livestream question-and-answer sessions and a dedicated social media page on which they can submit feedback. We can also set up a project-specific website to conduct user engagement. Our tools allow us to see the IP addresses of each user, so we exclude fake or irrelevant responses.
8. Reporting
Our project manager will keep in touch with [Client Company] regularly throughout the project. We will conduct weekly progress meetings via phone or video conferencing. At these meetings, we will discuss completed tasks, gather any outstanding data, and discuss the next steps in the process.
Written reports will be provided at the end of each task detailing the research methodology and the outcomes of each phase of the project. At the end of the project, a detailed report will be submitted containing a summary of the project and detailed results. We will submit the draft report to your project manager in Google Docs for any edits. Once the project is completed, we can present the report to your internal project team so they can best understand the results.
We will provide a printed copy and a PDF of the final report.
9. Timeline
Based on our call with [First Name] at [Client Company] , we know that you would like this study to be completed by the end of September. Since you plan on using the results to develop your marketing budget for the next fiscal year, we will complete your project within your desired time frame.
The following timeline details data collection times, the specific period of research analysis and the date of final deliverables. We have developed this schedule based on our understanding of your needs, but the final timeline will be discussed during project kick off.
Task 1 Task description
Task 2 Task description
Task 3 Task description
10. Proposed budget
Task 1 [Cost] Description
Task 2 [Cost]

11. Ethical considerations
[Company name] follows all ethical considerations regarding market research and test subjects. Each participant will be told that their participation in this research is voluntary, and they will be told how we plan on using their data. We will provide them with a form explaining this information and assuring them that their data will remain confidential.
Each participant will sign a form stating that they understand these terms. To protect each participant, we will not collect any personal data other than standard demographic information that can be used to inform the study.
If any additional data is collected, we will not sell this information to a third party or use it in any other research studies. It will be collected solely for the purposes of this market research project.
12. Further outcomes
This market research study will give [Client Company] a better understanding of your target market. It will provide insight into what your clients expect from your new product and how to best market it to members of your target demographic.
The study may also highlight other data including existing brand awareness and brand perceptions you can use to further tailor your ads.

Utilizing a proposal management system streamlines the creation and management of such proposals, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in presenting the project's details and objectives to stakeholders.
Market research is vital for understanding target audiences and their preferences, uncovering new opportunities, and improving existing products or services.
Key elements in a proposal include clear research objectives, appropriate methodologies like surveys or interviews, a realistic timeline, and a well-planned budget covering all stages of the project. This essential document helps businesses efficiently conduct market research within their financial constraints.

A research paper proposal template breaks down all the necessary sections of the proposal into segments. You can use a research proposal example to help in designing your own template. But, you also have the choice of using a ready-made research paper outline template to make things easier for you.
When filling out the research proposal template you will still need to take considerable care in developing the proposal’s presentation. The proposal needs to be exact, easy to understand, and concise. Academic or business-oriented writing and language are essential. You will need to fill the template in such a way that your ideas still be in linear order. The most basic of formats must be the final shape of the presentation. In other words, your writing is fluid and move from the introduction to the body of the proposal. It must then continue with a fluid presentation into the conclusion of the document.

Who should use a research proposal?
If you are writing a paper for an independent study or you are writing a dissertation in college, you will need to write a research proposal. The document must express the subject of your research. It must also include how you plan to go forth with the research. This document is of tremendous importance since it is the precursor to a larger body of work. The research paper proposal template is ideal for the following people:
- Students conducting independent studies.
- Students preparing for a dissertation.
- Students practice writing for future research papers.
- Employees looking to write a research paper for their employer.
- Faculty members at universities looking to write research papers.
- People writing a proposal to get a grant for research.
What are the research proposal template requirements?
Every research paper differs and is dependent upon the subject matter. You should talk with the supervisor of your project to find out about project expectations and deadlines. You can verify proposal deadlines and if the research you are interested in pursuing is acceptable.
The academic level and the purpose of the paper, whether a dissertation or some other type of assignment, plays a role in what goes into the initial proposal. However, there are some general elements one can expect to find in a proposal.
A quality research proposal example will reveal a document offering a clear, well-written outline describing your project’s undertaking. The plans you have for completing the research is something to include in the proposal. The goal of the proposal is so you can sway project funders to provide you with the monies needed to complete the necessary research. Or, it might be that your goal is to impress your professor by proving the knowledge you’ve accumulated will contribute to a successful research project.
No matter what you decide to research, the proposal will have some basic requirements to meet. The proposal must include the following:
- Your name and course name (if applicable).
- Your student identification number (if applicable).
- The Governing Education Department and the Supervisor/Professor.
- The Course Code (if applicable).
- The date of the paper’s submission.
- Paper Title.
- An introduction to the longer body of work. This introduction needs to present your argument and what you are setting out to prove with your research.
- An explanation of your planned research methods.
- A timetable revealing the length of time for the completion of research (if applicable).
- A mention of any ethical considerations.
- A paragraph or more describing anything that might limit the scope of the research you plan to conduct.
- A bibliography and citations with the correct citation format (Of works you plan to work with; the list is something you can expand upon and edit as you conduct your research).

What is the proper length for a research proposal?
It’s imperative that the abstract stays brief. The expectation is about 250 to 300 words in length. That’s about 10 percent of the total length of the research proposal. Longer than that, and it might deter the reader’s interest. It will also give you less room to discuss the goals and aims of the research project.
The length of the research proposal template is not long. You’ll find most writing requirements demand a word count of 2500 to 3000 words. Depending on spacing requirements, this might be three to five pages of information. This ensures concise writing. Of course, the study supervisor makes the final call on proposal length and necessary inclusions.
Research Paper Title
The research proposal template will have an area where you can put the title of the document. This title needs to be short, concise, and to the point. It should not take up more space than necessary. You’ll need to have a title that is absent of acronyms or abbreviations. The title needs to have a hook or stimulating words that will stir up the reader’s interest in what the research paper is about; you can use a research proposal example to get an idea about excellent title writing.
Within the title, if it is possible for you to do so, you need to give reference to the independent and dependent variables. If it is possible, the title needs to still be under 15 words. It should not be shorter than five words. There will be room for the catchy title on a research paper proposal template; it is here you will win the attentions of that all-important reader.
The title should be on a separate page and set apart from the rest of the template. Here, the author’s name, the class or course name, and the date of the work is necessary. The page numbers begin on the next page, but do not appear on the first page of the template.
Part of presenting a well-documented and researched paper is to make it available with ease of access. The table of contents follows the title page. The main chapters or sections of the paper must appear neat and orderly. Sub-headings are something you can add to make it easy to find the detailed portions of each section or chapter as well. If you can create a mock table of contents, it can serve as an outline for the paper’s structure. You can always edit the table later as you develop your research and expand on the subject matter.
The abstract is the next section you will see on a well-constructed research proposal template. This area has information about what the paper holds. The abstract is a summary so the reader gets an immediate understanding about the arguments or discoveries in the paper. The abstract should be in active voice if it is possible to do so.
The proper use of grammar and sentence style is also necessary when you are writing the abstract. You might benefit from writing the abstract portion of the paper last. This gives you an opportunity to work your way through the rest of the research paper outline template. It allows for the opportunity to develop a clear description of all the essential information the paper holds.
The abstract of the research proposal template needs to be short. You do not mention your references or research material at this point. All sentences should be complete and you should not use ellipses. Terms, jargon, and related abbreviations should appear the body of the paper. Do not reference your images at this point either. It is a clear and unambiguous explanation of the paper’s purpose only.
Background and Rationale
Depending on the research proposal template and assignment specifications, you might see a section where you must present some background information and the rationale for the paper. This is a section allowing you to describe how you decided to examine the subject of the paper.
You can help draw the interest of the reader if you explain how you became interested in what the paper explores. The answer needs to be brief, but by explaining the development of your interests, it will help the reader understand the point of you view you take when examining your subject matter. Here, a bit of your background and experience can also prove both beneficial and revealing.
In this section, you can touch on some of the supporting literature you will use to back your arguments. Your familiarity with the subject matter will become clear as you make mention of the types of work you’ve explored during the process of your planned research. The information of most value, however, will be the reason the project is a worthwhile expedition or endeavor; it’s your job to tell the reader the knowledge you expect to gain through the study.
Research Questions or Introduction
As you examine one research proposal example after another, you will see the style of the paper differs on the type of coursework relating to the paper in question. You’ll also see differences in a research proposal template design when you are proposing diverse types of research. Some papers need an area where explore one or more research questions. Others might want a cut and dry introduction revealing the questions you plan to explore. The subject of your investigation and the questions you plan to answer need to have a clear definition. You need to know in advance what you plan to focus on with the work you are developing. Here you need to convince the reader you have a solid understanding of the subject and how you will approach it.
Literary Review
Some research paper proposal template selections will include an area where you can include a literary review. This section allows you to make a list of the literature you have explored to support your research. It can also list the literature you plan to examine to find evidence supporting your theories or position. The literature review is a place to give the reader with a summary of existing literature, and your interpretation of that literature. Emphasis is on your interpretation here; you don’t want to regurgitate someone else’s work. You want to interpret what you’ve found and enhance it by adding your own opinion to it. In this section, you’ll also need to find any gaps that might be in existing research. If your theory or presentation plans to address this gap in knowledge, you can identify that fact in this section by explaining how it will supply the missing knowledge.
The Framework or Methodology of the Proposal
This is the part of the research proposal template that needs information in relation to the methods you plan to use to research and support your argument. Are there special methods or procedures you must use? Here, you’ll have to source your information and data. The reader can internalize the information and consider whether it is valid or not. Your means of analysis will also undergo the reader’s scrutiny. The inclusion of the method section of is imperative. No matter what subject you are covering, if the information you are using is outdated, outmoded, spurious, or if your focus is too rigid, you can end up with a research project featuring weak or refutable arguments.
Since there are many methods for conducting research, you’ll need to clarify your research techniques. This section of the research template proposal gives you the chance to reveal the reasons why you choose one method of research over others. For example, did you use an observational method when you conducted your research ? Did you interact with any subjects in the study? If so, how did you interact? Did you offer a questionnaire for students to answer? What size was the representative sample for the questionnaire? Clarifying your method will allow the reader to understand how you approached the research.

Final Thoughts
A research proposal template can help simplify the task of proposing research for a dissertation, job, or research grant approval. While the template helps in designing a proposal that helps a supervisor or governing body understand your theories and methods, it is also a paper that helps you in developing an understanding of how to continue with writing the longer dissertation. It will serve as a documented outline of the literary pieces you’ll need to review for project completion. The proposal also defines your theory in concrete terms, so you can compare your findings with the initial assertions you set forth in the proposal. You may find your argument and findings evolve during the course of the research.

The study was conducted to assess the impact of service quality on customer loyalty for mobile money services among university students when the effect of customer satisfaction, gender and banking status are statistically controlled for. The study targeted first degree students who were offering different programs in University of Cape Coast, Ghana. A total of 18498 students were targeted. Through the explanatory research design, structured questionnaires were personally administered to 377 participants who provided the primary data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the primary data analysis. Internal consistency of 0.759 was obtained for the instrument. Multiple regression, correlation and moderation analysis were conducted to test the hypotheses in the study. It was discovered that service quality predicted a significant positive variance in customer loyalty. Again, foreign remittance, ease of mobile money registration, interest on savings and airtime purchases made a significant contribution to the 17% variance in customer loyalty. The study proved that, gender and customer satisfaction, significantly moderated the predictive relation between service quality and customer loyalty whilst banking status did not. Security threats, high service charges, low interest on savings, and network failure were major challenges associated with mobile money services.
