CBSE Class 9 English Worksheet Chapter 1 The Fun They Had – Download Free PDF

The story talks about a time when schools were online, and robots taught instead of people. Margie and Tommy go to these online classes because computers are a big part of their world now. The way schools and books were before has changed because of these online schools.

Tommy finds a real book with stories in it. Margie’s grandpa remembers when all stories were printed on paper. Margie and Tommy start reading the book to learn about the old times. Tommy thinks it’s a waste to throw away a book after reading it. He believes their TV screen could store many books.

They read about schools in the past where real teachers taught, not robots. Margie doesn’t like the idea of schools because she doesn’t have friends there, and the robot teacher gives too much homework. Margie’s mom asks her to join her class since they’re reading the same book.

While at school, Margie thinks about her grandparents’ school days. Schools back then were special places where all kids learned together. Margie imagines kids from different neighborhoods happily going to school. This makes Margie curious about the fun kids had in real schools.

Margie’s grandfather once said that when he was a little boy his grandfather told him that there was a time when all stories were printed on paper. They turned the pages, which were yellow and crinkly, and it was awfully funny to read words that stood still instead of moving the way they were supposed to — on a screen, you know. The mechanical teacher had been giving her test after test in geography and she had been doing worse and worse until her mother had shaken her head sorrowfully and sent for the County Inspector.

Questions : (i) Name the writer of the story ‘The Fun They Had’. (ii) What was Margie’s opinion about school? (iii) What had been doing her mechanical teacher? (iv) What were Margie’s responses? (v) Why was the County Inspector sent for?

PASSAGE 3 ‘Gee,’ said Tommy. ‘What a waste. When you’re through with the book. you just throw it away. I guess. Our television screen must have had a million books on it and it’s good for plenty more. I wouldn’t throw it away.’ ‘Same with mine,’ said Margie. She was eleven and hadn’t seen as many telebooks as Tommy had. He was thirteen. She said, ‘Where did you find it?’ ‘In my house.’ He pointed without looking, because he was busy reading. ‘In the attic.’ ‘What’s it about?’ ‘School.

Guidelines for Writing Assignments

1. There will be a cover page. Its better if the page is of formal design.

2. The cover page will have a logo according to the subject.

3. The cover page will have the subject clearly written at the top, it will look good if it is crescent shaped but there is no problem if it is normal straight.

4. At the bottom, there will be name, class rolls, book names and etc.

5. There will be a blank white page at the end of the assignment.

6. The ideal assignment is to be interrupted by special poly-plastic covers. (However, this isn’t mandatory for students)

7. There should be sufficient margin on the inside writing page of the assignment.

9. Even if you write short assignments on a single subject, you have to write more than 7-8 pages. And the standard assignment can be 20-50 pages longer. However, the syllabus of the students has been specified so it is not right to enlarge it unnecessarily. However, various questions and topics have to be written in a big way. Here the explanations can be researched and written in your own opinion.

10. Assignments are not usually written in stylish letters. So you need to be clear and keep all the letters in the regular size.

11. The source of the assignment information can be anything like books, story books, novels, poetry books, internet etc. There is no problem, but it cannot be copied exactly. You have to write what you understand after reading the source. The words of advice of any person or author should be written in double quotation at this time.

12. The assignment should be written on one side of the paper.

13. Find the answer to the assignment question and write it yourself. One should not copy to see someone else’s assignment solution.
