Acharya has been in the making for the last three years thanks to Covid. The film starring Chiranjeevi and Charan has hit the screens today. Let’s see whether it lives up to the hype or not.

The film is based in the temple town of Dharmasthali. Basava(Sonu Sood), once a disciple of the temple is now doing all sorts of illegal activities in the temple town. In comes Acharya(Chiranjeevi) and starts a revolt against Basava. But his arrival at Dharmasthali has a purpose that is related to Siddha(Rama Charan). Who is this Siddha? What’s his connection with Acharya? and who will save Dharmasthali? To know the answers, watch the film on the big screen.

Plus Points:

It has been quite some time since we have seen Megastar Chiranjeevi on screen. But his charisma, screen presence, and intensity in his eyes are intact and he gives a solid performance. Even at this age, Chiru dances, fights, and mouths dialogues in a superb manner. His emotional performance is the biggest highlight of the film.

With each film, Ram Charan is only improvising and the same is proved here with Acharya. He, as Siddha, a boy from Gurukul, looks peaceful but transforms into a mass avatar by the end of the film. The scenes between Chiranjeevi and Charan are executed superbly by Koratala Siva and are the main highlight of the second half.

Pooja Hegde gets a limited role but looks cute in the Indian avatar. Her chemistry with Ram Charan is decent. The grandeur in the film is quite good as the sets and action blocks are good. The Bhale Banjara song will be a feast for the fans and comes at a perfect time in the film.

Minus Points:

One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the routine storyline. Apart from the backdrop of Dharmasthali, the basic premise is the same good versus bad formulae and showcases nothing new.

The first half has no great moments and this is where the film goes for a toss. Chiranjeevi, who is known for his energy, is showcased in a subdued manner and is only in his elements for the songs and fights. Just to give hype to Ram Charan’s character, he has been kept quite dull and gets his due only in the climax. The climax also looks rushed and forced and has no enough meat for Chiranjeevi to go all out.

Yet another big drawback of the film is the lack of a strong villain. There is no strong conflict point for the hero address to and the weak villain makes matters worse. Sonu Sood has a soft image post-Covid crisis and that is the reason he does not look menacing. Jisshu Sen Gupta also does not create any effect.

Technical Aspects:

Music by Mani Sharma is decent but his BGM could have been better in a few areas to elevate the heroism. One of the major attractions of Acharya is the temple town Dharmastahli. Most of the film happens in this setup and one cannot believe that the entire temple town is a set. The credit should go to art director Suresh for doing a splendid job.

The dances are decent and the ones in the father and son song were superb. The lyrics are meaningful and the dialogues by Koratala Siva are good. The fights composed especially for the father and son are so pleasing to the eyes.

Coming to the director Koratala Siva, he has done just a passable job with the film. Koratala has elevated the scenes between Chiru and Charan in a superb way and pleased the fans. But in all this, the taut storytelling, which is his forte, goes missing. Koratala’s writing is quite weak as there is not enough drama to elevate the proceedings. Most of the scenes look forced and the climax is the biggest example.

On the whole, Acharya is a temple town drama that has some good father-son moments. The backdrop is decent but the narration is insipid and does not gives the audience a high. Storywise too, there is no novelty and the electrifying drama one expects from a Koratala film is missing. The regular audience will get disappointed with Acharya but Chiranjeevi and Charan make the fans happy, with their chemistry and solid screen presence.

Acharya Review

What's Behind

Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Acharya is releasing on April 29, 2022 in a spectacular manner across the world. The film is generating immense hype as Chiranjeevi is coming to entertain movie lovers after a gap of more than two years and he is sharing screen presence with his son Mega Power Star Ram Charan in a full-length role for the first time. The film directed by Koratala Shiva is increasing curiosity among all. Let us find out what Acharya offered to movie lovers.

Story Review

Acharya (Chiranjeevi) gets disappointed when he sees the temple town of Dharmasthali a contrast to what he heard of. He quickly finds the core problem as nefarious plans are on to separate Dharmasthali from the tribals of Paadaghattam. Where this leads to and what is the connection to it with the town's municipal chairman Basava (Sonu Sood), influential business magnate Rathod (Jisshu Sen Gupta), and the dream of Siddha (Ram Charan) and whether is love with Neelambari (Pooja Hegde) succeeds, becomes the crux of Acharya.

Artists, Technicians Review

The entire industry envied when Koratala Shiva got the lucky chance to direct Mega Star Chiranjeevi for which many aspire for decades. However, there is no denying the fact that Koratala was rewarded after he scored hits with his previous entertainers that are filled with a social message. Not only mega fans but also movie lovers expected wonders from Kortala and Mega Star Chiranjeevi and when Ram Charan became a part of it, their joy knew no bounds.

The Dharmasthali backdrop, temple setup, etc excited all and the proceedings start in a similar fashion. However routine elements enter and from there on it turned out to be a tedious watch. Even the entry of Chiranjeevi as Acharya did not liven up the proceedings and viewers wait patiently for something magical to happen as Chiranjeevi dances and fights with ease. The entry of Ram Charan brings life into the narration and the flashes of Ram Charan as Siddha bring curtains to the first half. When people expect a power-packed second half with Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, the narration reaches a new nadir. The naxal backdrop and everything else turns tried and tested for a long as viewers have watched such scenes in many films earlier. With Koratala unable to elevate the narration with the twists and turns, monotony plays spoilsport with silly and illogical scenes like the comical fight featuring Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi. The film finally ends the relentless torture of the viewers with the mundane climax.

Koratala Shiva drew inspiration from many earlier films for Acharya and for all the hype everything turned artificial. Nothing breathed life into the story and even the stunts choreographed by Ram Lakshman failed to give goosebumps to the viewers and the dance movements choreographed for the songs by Prem Rakshit turned out to be repetitive. Dialogues looked pretty average and Koratala's reputation took a beating.

Chiranjeevi tried his best to do full justice to his role. He tried to bring life into his passive role with his mannerisms and expressions. For all his efforts, he could only stop the ship from sinking. He danced with ease and is a delight to watch be it the item song Saana Kashtam with Regina Cassandra or Banjara with his son Ram Charan. He did good stunts showing that he still has it in him to carry the film on his shoulders. But one gets a feeling that his judgment misfired this time.

Ram Charan with his performance increased the expectations of the proceedings among movie lovers. He performed well as a person who believes in dharma and even sacrifices his love to save dharma. He enacted action sequences along with his dad and danced well in a romantic manner with Pooja Hegde and delighted all the fans by sharing screen presence with his dad Chiranjeevi.

Pooja Hegde got a limited screen presence and she is confined to a romantic song and a scene. Others just passed through the motions. Sonu Sood got a typical villain role and he did what was expected from him. Nassar, Jisshu Sen Gupta, and Satyadev got limited roles while Tanikella Bharani and Ajay are not utilized properly. Regina Cassandra oozed with glamor in the special song. Mahesh Babu powered the film with his voice-over.

Tirru's cinematography is good and showed the Dharmasthali and Paadaghattam proceedings and also the Naxal backdrop quite well. The artwork of Suresh Selvarajan is good. However, at times, the sets looked artificial. Naveen Nooli's editing turned out to be average as he left many repetitive scenes which dragged the film's proceedings. Mani Sharma disappointed in no time as his background score turned out to be below average. Even the songs are pretty average and a couple of songs are talked about only for the dance movements of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. Production values are grand.

Rating Analysis

Koratala Shiva's Acharya with Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan turned out to be a disappointing fare by all means. With missing elevations, emotions, and a completely outdated and routine story that lacked the real twists and turns, even fans found it a miserable watch. Considering all these aspects, CJ goes with a 2.25 rating for Acharya.

Acharya Movie Review: Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan father-son duo is the only thing working for it

Director koratala siva's acharya starring chiranjeevi and ram charan, is an outdated story that talks about dharma, illegal mining and the importance of our roots. the father-son duo tried their best to keep things interesting in acharya..

Listen to Story

Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi's Acharya hit the theatres o n April 29.

A lot of expectations were riding on director Koratala Siva's Acharya, which brought together father-son duo Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. In fact, it became a calling card for Acharya. Now that it hit the theatres, did Acharya live up to the hype? Sadly, the answer would be a big NO.

Dharmasthali, Siddhavanam and Padaghattam are three villages which are interlinked by values and faith systems. However, the temple town of Dharmasthali is suffering at the hands of Basava (Sonu Sood). Because of his tyrannical rule, the people of Padaghattam, who are known for their Ayurvedic way of living, do not visit Dharmasthali as often as they would. It is now in the hands of Acharya (Chiranjeevi) to free Dharmasthali and Padaghattam from Basava and other villains. How Sidha is (Ram Charan) connected to Padaghattam and what happens to him forms the rest of the story.

It is safe to say that Acharya is Koratala Siva's weakest work till date. Though he is only four films old, he had created a niche for himself with his ability to churn out interesting screenplays. However, that was the major drawback of Acharya. The story of Acharya is as old as the hills and the screenplay deserves fresh elements. The film lacked high points, which could have made the proceedings interesting.

Chiranjeevi gets a lackluster introduction and everything goes for a toss as the story progresses. There are only a handful of moments which made the audience sit up and cheer for our heroes. Be it the Banjara song in the second half or Ram Charan's introduction scene, we can count the scenes which made people go wow. The rest of the story is so bland that you start to question whether you came to a Koratala Siva film or booked tickets for a different flick.

Chiranjeevi's Acharya and Ram Charan's Siddha are fighting for a cause. Siddha wants Acharya to carry on with the mission even if something happens to him. Now, this is a perfect setup for emotionally-charged sequences. However, you feel nothing, even during an important moment before the climax. There are no memorable mass moments that could have elevated this done-to-death story.

Chiranjeevi's aura and his energy brought life to his character Acharya. Similarly, Ram Charan as Siddha is a revelation to watch. Their combination sequences, especially the scene in which they make fun of the villains while killing them, were interesting to watch. However, there's only so much that Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan can do to salvage this mess.

Pooja Hegde as Neelambari came as a breath of fresh air and her chemistry with Ram Charan was refreshing to watch. Sonu Sood, Jisshu Sengupta, Tanikella Bharani and the supporting cast delivered decent performances.

Mani Sharma's songs were peppy, but the background score did not enhance any scene. Cinematographer Tirru and editor Naveen Nooli's work complemented the film well.

Acharya could have been a full-fledged mass masala entertainer. But, the lack of inventiveness turned out to be a big letdown.

2.5 out of 5 stars for Acharya. ALSO SEE | Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi twin in Acharya BTS pic. See here

Acharya Movie Review and Rating

Movie Review:  Acharya Director :  Koratala Siva Producer :  Niranjan Reddy, Anvesh Reddy, Ram Charan Music Director :  Mani Sharma Starring :   Chiranjeevi , Ram Charan, Pooja Hegde, Sonu Sood Rating:   2.75 /5 Date:  29 th  April 2022

Acharya Movie Review:  Written and directed by Koratala Siva, the film  Acharya has Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The big budget social drama Acharya has hit the theaters today. Let’s see the story of Acharya.

Story:  Acharya  is based in the temple town of Dharmasthali. A politically influencing personality Basava(Sonu Sood), does  illegal activities  and dominates Dharmasthali.  Acharya (Chiranjeevi) makes his entry at Dharmasthali and creates fear in Basava. What is his connection of Acharya  with Siddha (Ram Charan) ? Who is Siddha? Who will save Dharmasthali? To get these answers, one should watch the movie on silver screen.

Plus Points:

  • Presence of Chiranjeevi and his dance moves
  • Naxalites fight
  • Charan and Chiranjeevi combination scenes

Minus points:

  • Routine Story
  • Lack of Entertainment
  • Lack of strong villain

Performance:    Megastar Chiranjeevi excels in the role of Acharya at both. He wins the audience’s heart with an honest performance and dancing style at this age. He delivers note noteworthy performance.  Chiru’ expressions, way of dialogue delivery, stunning dance moves and action sequences are mind-blowing.  Ram Charan  gives his best in the Siddha role.  Charan, a boy from Gurukul, looks peaceful but later he transforms into a mass avatar, which is amazing. Both Chiranjeevi and  Ram Charan look amazing on screen in a single frame. Pooja Hegde looks pretty and performs well. Jisshu Sen Gupta and Sonu Sood are ok.  Other supporting artists are fine.

Technical:   Once again Koratala Siva made his comeback with a social drama but this time with a weak script and dull presentation. He disappointed the movie lovers with the outdated story and screenplay. The cinematography work is impressive.  Thiru captures  the forest locales and lush greenery in his own style. Visuals are awesome. Editing is  good.  The background score  by Mani Sharma elevates the emotion of the scenes. The foot tapping songs are impressive.  The production value is top notch, the makers did not compromise with the quality of the movie.

Analysis:  The first half of Acharya has no interesting moments and the climax looks forced.  The one of the major drawbacks of Acharya is the lack of a strong villain. Sonu Sood has become a real hero  post-Covid crisis and that is the reason he does not look menacing.

Megastar Chiranjeevi is coming back to the theaters with his Acharya directed by Koratala Siva. Chiru’s last outing was in 2019 with Sye Raa. Acharya is one of the most awaited movies due to the presence of Chiranjeevi of course, but also Ram Charan plays a crucial and lengthy role in the movie. The trailer appears to serve mostly commercial elements with two superstars in it becoming the saviors of a temple town. The movie was finally released today and here is the review from the US Premieres.

What Is It About?

A temple town Dharmasthali loses its glory after Basava (Sonu Sood) takes it into his clutches. Acharya (Chiranjeevi) enters Dharmasthali and starts reforming it slowly with his silent yet violent acts. Acharya had to come to save Dharmasthali for a reason and that is Siddha (Ram Charan). Who is Siddha and how he is related to Acharya? What is Acharya’s background and how did he solve the problem of Dharmasthali? Acharya’s story answers all these questions.

Performances

Chiranjeevi is good as Acharya, but his story fails to create much impact and depth. Neither his character gets a strong presentation in Dharmasthali. Two fights where he becomes a vigilante trying to elevate but ends up in vain. His dances are still great to watch and that is the saving part of almost all the songs. Chiranjeevi’s role is monotonous and the Megastar gets nothing much really to perform here.

Ram Charan’s role is much hyped right from the first half but his role too is extremely formulaic and mostly predictable. The actor must have gone by the direction, but his role could not entertain much. With slow and predictable narration, both the Mega heroes’ roles look dull and routine Both their characters lack a strong emotional connection with Dharmasthali/Paadaghattam sentiments.

The graceful dances of both Chiru and Charan in the Bhale Banjara song remain a treat to watch. The song looks interesting and attractive just because they both dance in perfect sync.

Pooja Hegde has got a minuscule role and she mostly appears as a guest. With Chiru having no heroine, Pooja Hegde is there just to fill the gap as Charan’s love interest.

Sonu Sood, Jishu Sen Gupta, Tanikella Bharani, and others are fine, though they are all given the same old roles they have played umpteen times. Satya Dev appears in a guest role and he is alright.

Technicalities

Acharya is a routine plot with weak narration. The flow of scenes could be predicted by their most old-fashioned ways.

The graphics work in the movie is not great and could have been a lot better with the star cast like Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan in it. The screenplay is outdated.

The background music is alright and the songs are good to watch mostly due to Chiru and Charan in them. The dialogues are ordinary.

Chiru & Charan’s Dance

Thumbs Down

Weak Plot Poor formulaic narration Routine Characterizations

The senior heroes like Chiranjeevi have reached a point where they are becoming very protective of themselves during the story selection and often coming up with the same ‘safe’ stories with so-called commercial elements included. Acharya ends up as one of the routine storylines with predictable scenes all along.

The director gives a new backdrop with terms like Dharmasthali, and Paadaghattam and introduces the savior of them, Acharya to us. But took no time to fall back into the regular routine masala formula of a commercially viable movie.

The first half starts at a slow pace with an Intriguing voiceover by Mahesh Babu, but the pace doesn’t pick up even after Chiranjeevi enters. The most needed highlights and highs with his entry thereafter go missing. The scenes can be easily predictable. Though Chiru’s dance is good to watch, the songs Laahe Laahe and Saana Kashtam appear obviously forced.

With Chiru giving hints about his mission in Dharmasthali and about Siddha, it is clearly evident that the second half is all about Siddha. While the most hyped Siddha too goes in a vintage narrative of a rescuer or a savior. Ram Charan and Pooja Hegde’s love story and the song followed by those scenes are extremely boring.

The villains Sonu Sood, Jishu Sen Gupta, and his brother are just the same villains we have watched in many films who worry mainly about mining and encroaching. At least the villain’s methods of troubling the good folks don’t change here, like adulterating the medicines of Paadaghattam people, etc. On top of that, the three villains sound the same, maybe due to the usage of the same dubbing voice for all Bollywood villains.

There are many other outdated scenes like punishing a rapist, saving a girl from bad youngsters, saving the young boys from the quarry work and these come as a part of elevating the heroism. The scenes like Basava brutally killing a sincere officer, backstabbing Siddha, and supplying the drugs for the youth, are as old as mountains.

The Acharya himself stays mostly as a spectator in the second half just to watch Siddha take over, again with the same vintage formulaic scenes and elevations. Some combination scenes between Charan and Chiru turned out just okay, while their comedy at the quarry fails miserably. The climax fight is red and violent with Acharya in destruction mode, which might enthrall some action fans.

Having said that, Acharya is an outdated drama with some enjoyable dances and many predictable scenes. The presence of Mega heroes Chiru and Charan may not be able to help the movie, as the story and the narrative are much bigger villains here.

Bottomline: A Boring Class From Acharya

Rating: 2/5

‘Acharya’ movie review: A dated narrative that never takes off

The playoffs between chiranjeevi and ram charan are endearing, but the film is utterly boring.

Published - April 29, 2022 03:32 pm IST

Sangeetha Devi Dundoo

Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi in ‘Acharya’

Had the story of Acharya been published in written form, it could have been a short fiction of a temple town with a mythical past. A temple dating back to 800 years is at the heart of two settlements — Dharmasthali and Padaghattam — flanked by a sparkling river and dense forests. As vested interests arise, people desperately try to hold on to hope; an unlikely saviour helps restore dharma. Such a story may not get old when passed on from one generation to another as a folk tale. As a mainstream film, it can get outdated. That’s precisely what happens to Acharya. Despite the presence of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan and a whole lot of masala elements thrown in, it ends up as a dull film that never takes off.

Director Koratala Siva saves the best for the latter half, showcasing the camaraderie between Acharya (Chiranjeevi) and Siddha (Ram Charan). The former is a Naxalite while the latter has grown up in a gurukul. There is, of course, a backstory that connects these characters and makes Acharya hover protectively around Siddha.

With the superstar father and son enacting these characters, there are the high moments of watching them pull off choreographed stunt sequences and dance in sync to the ‘Bhale bhale banjara’ song. There are moments when Chiranjeevi’s eyes swell with pride as he watches Ram Charan hold forth on what is right and wrong, and why he would go to any length to save someone of his ilk.

Cast: Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Pooja Hegde

Direction: koratala siva, music: mani sharma.

Ram Charan is at ease playing Siddha, bringing in an innate elegance for the part. After RRR , this is another film where he manages to emote with his eyes. Chiranjeevi proves yet again that he can still pull off a heroic character in his 60s, carrying himself with style and grace. He is not shown romancing a woman half his age, and that is a saving grace.

But then, all this never ever feels enough. Dharmasthali and its surrounding areas are visually gorgeous, thanks to production designer Suresh Selvarajan who creates a breathtaking fictional temple town and cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu who captures it gloriously. The green foliage and kumkum reds contrasting the black temple stones make for an interesting visual tapestry. But how long can we soak in the milieu when the story fails to hold interest?

It is the same old set of situations — people at the mercy of greedy villains who nurture political ambitions. The people of Padaghattam, led by Ajay, get something better to do than the people of Dharmasthali, given their story about Ayurveda practice. Don’t ask how Dharmasthali and Padaghatam manage to remain cut off from the outside world though.

Acharya imparts one lesson after another through stunt sequences that appear dated by a decade or two. In fact, the masala segments in Koratala Siva’s earlier films were more entertaining.

Sonu Sood could have played the caricaturish Basava in his sleep. Jisshu Sengupta plays another villain without bringing in any nuance. Shouldering this film rests squarely on the shoulders of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, but there is nothing much they can do. Their contrasting ideologies also remain at a surface level. Siddha is better written than Acharya. You get an insight into the gurukul teaching that shaped Siddha, but it is very little about what Acharya and his Comrades are fighting for. A little depth would not have hurt.

The one who looks absolutely lost is Pooja Hegde. We get that this is a film powered by two A-list male stars, but the woman’s character can at least get closure for her journey. The makers deciding to do away with Kajal Aggarwal’s portions seems to be a good idea, given how little has gone into the characterisation of Pooja’s Neelambari. A whole lot of others come and go, without the scope to leave a mark. Acharya also needed a better musical score.

Chiranjeevi pushing a chariot, fighting and dancing in tandem with Ram Charan are the only high points. The VFX-enabled scene showing a young Chiranjeevi ends up as an experiment with an awkward result.

As an afterthought, perhaps what makes Acharya appear all the more boring is its arrival barely weeks after RRR . While watching the ‘Bhale bhale banjara’ song and the forest stunt sequences, I could not help but be reminded of Rajamouli’s film, where these larger-than-life sequences were innovative and far more entertaining. Maybe it is unfair to draw such comparisons, but watching Charan in similar sequences, the RRR memory is tough to shake off so soon.

'Radhe Shyam' Review: Mystic Astro-Love

'Radhe Shyam' Review: Mystic Astro-Love

Movie: Radhe Shyam Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: UV Creations Cast: Prabhas, Pooja Hegde, Krishnam Raju, Bhagyashree, Sachin Khedekar, Kunal Roy Kapur, Priyadarsi, Jagapathi Babu, Murli Sharma, Riddhi Kumar, Sasha Chettri, and others. Music: Justin Prabhakaran Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa Production designer: R Raveendar Editor: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao Sound: Resul Pookutty Producers: Vamsi, Pramod and Praseedha Written and Directed by: Radha Krishna Kumar Release Date: March 11, 2022

Prabhas is one of India’s biggest superstars. With his tall and handsome looks, he has already proved that he can effortlessly switch from action roles to romantic characters.

After an action film like “Saaho”, Prabhas has now come up with a pure romantic tale. “Radhe Shyam” has been aggressively promoted as a romantic thriller, and the film’s promotions have generated tremendous hype.

Let’s find out its merits and demerits.

Story: The story is set in the mid-1970s. Vikramaditya (Prabhas), the Einstein of palmistry, falls in love with Prerana (Pooja Hegde) at first sight. She works as a doctor in Rome. Vikramaditya can predict the future. He never gets it wrong.

Such a renowned palmist is in love with a girl, who as per doctors, might not live long. She is suffering from an incurable tumor.

What will be the fate of their love story? Can fate be changed?

Artistes’ Performances: The best part of the film is Prabhas looking at his dashing best. He is handsome and classy. His screen presence is fabulous. There are no fights in the film, but he gets a couple of emotional moments to showcase his performance skills.

Pooja Hegde is so beautiful. As Prerana, she is ravishing and fits the character well. She looks fresh as a daisy.

Krishnam Raju as a blind astrology guru brings gravitas. Jagapathi Babu, though a short role, made some impact.

Bhagya Shree also made her good screen presence but the emotional connect with the protagonist is not established much.

Purpose of Kunal Kapoor's character is not served at all.

Sachin Khedekar as Pooja’s uncle is the only noticeable actor among scores of actors, who get nothing much to do than stand for scenes.

Technical Excellence: The striking part is Manoj’s cinematography besides production design. Art Director Ravinder has created some stunning sets.

Justin Prabhakaran’s music is a weak thread to this visually alluring movie. “Ee Raathale” and “Nagumomu” have worked better on audio but they fail to create the same impact with video. Better songs would have made a lot of difference.

Thaman’s background score helped the film to the best.

Highlights: Lavish visuals Grand production design/values Prabhas and Pooja Hegde’s looks Some poetic moments

Drawback: Weak songs  No multiple dimensions

Analysis The much-hyped Prabhas starrer “Radhe Shyam” is an out-and-out love story. There are no fights. There’s no villain in this love story either, other than fate. The conflict also arises from destiny, not from humans. In a way, the love story doesn’t follow a regular formula.

We have seen several films based on the concept of reincarnation. Now this is a love story set in the backdrop of palmistry and astrology. That's the point of difference with regard to novelty.

The let down in this heavy budget film is not giving room for seasoned actors to perform.  Bhagyashree is shown as Prabhas’s mother and also a classical dancer. Apart from getting three or four scenes, she gets nothing in the story. The purpose of her presence in this story is not established. There is a character played by Kunal Roy Kapoor who also appears in two scenes. Priyadarshi does appear as one of the many doctors.

Not developing proper characterizations to all these characters shows a thumsdown to the director.

Not to say that the movie is bereft of interesting moments. The conversation between Prabhas and Krishnam Raju about palmistry and astrology, and the episode involving Riddhi Kumar and the train sequence hold our interest. Pooja Hegde finding the twist is also another beautiful moment.

For any love story, the songs pump in life. Right from Geetanjali and Sakhi of Manirathnam to the recent Love Story of Sekhar Kammula, songs play a crucial role in making the love stories touch the hearts and souls of the audience.

“Radhe Shyam” ends up with miserably ordinary songs.

Plus, the film’s 1970s period setting has no relevance to the main conflict/story. The entire attempt looks pretentious and superficial. It didn't serve the purpose other than shooting up the making budget.

“Radhe Shyam” is one of the costliest productions in Indian cinema. No wonder the film has stunning visual and production values. But beneath the glossy veneer, the film looks shallow.

This is only for the multiplex audience but not to the single screens. The masses hardly connect to this astro-based love. Making this film with a pan Indian mass hero like Prabhas may prove wrong commercially. But it is sure that this film may be liked by the audience who hold faith in astrology. In fact, this film scores more points as an astrological film than as a love story.

Bottom line: Thin Love Line

The scenes between Chiranjeevi and Charan are executed superbly by Koratala Siva and are the main highlight of the second half.

  8. Acharya Telugu Movie Review with Rating

Koratala Shiva's Acharya with Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan turned out to be a disappointing fare by all means.
