Eid-ul-Adha: An Eid Festival of Muslims

Eid prayers are offered early in the morning of the Eid day

Eid-ul-Adha, Eid-e-Qurban, also known as Barri Eid (Greater Eid) in Pakistan, is around the corner. It is the second of two great Muslim festivals, the other being Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid al-Adha, also known as Festival of Sacrifice (Qurbani) , marks the culmination of the Hajj (pilgrimage) rites at Mina, near Mecca, but is celebrated by Muslims throughout the world. The Eid day, falling on the 10th of Dhū-al-Ḥijjah, the twelfth and the final month of the Islamic calendar, begins by the performance of a special communal prayer (ṣalāt) at daybreak. This Eid too, like Eid-ul-Fitr, is celebrated for three days. During the festival, Muslim families that can afford to sacrifice a ritually acceptable animal (sheep, goat, camel, or cow) do so and then divide the meat amongst themselves, the poor, friends and neighbors. Eid-ul-Adha is also a time for bonding with families, meeting friends, exchanging gifts and festivities throughout the Muslim world.

From the Arabian Peninsula to the Himalayan pastures, from African grasslands to Europe, men and their cattle have their existence interwoven in all agrarian and nomadic cultures. Before the modern age, possession of sheep, goats, cows, buffalos and camels were considered the most prized property, and those who owned them were considered privileged. In Islam, those offering sacrifice must choose the best value animal for the offering, according to their status. This can be either camels, cows, sheep or goats. Whether one offers one small animal or a share in a large animal, the reward will be the same, meaning the sacrifice will amount to one Qurbani . The animal must be healthy and free of defects for a Qurbani to be acceptable. It should be devoid of any visible eye defects, including blindness or the loss of one-third of eyesight, sickness or wounds that affect the animal’s health, lameness and undernourishment. Animals such as sheep, goats, cows, camels, oxen, and buffalo are suitable for Qurbani . The animal must have matured in order to be eligible for sacrifice. This is between six to 12 months for sheep, one year for goats, and two years for cows. In the case of camels, it means one that is five years old.

Qurbani in the name of the Almighty has a very long history in Islam. In Chapter Hajj (Verse:37) while describing the essence of Qurbani , Quran says: “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus, we have made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad PBUH) to the Muhsinun (doers of good).” This injunction underscores that for any sacrifice, what matters is the sincerity and the sense of purpose. What is required is the feeling inside that even if one is asked to offer oneself or one’s wealth in Allah’s way for sacrifice, one would be ready for it. Qurbani or sacrifice is a symbolic oath of this resolve.

According to traditions, the ritual of sacrificing animals on Eid-ul Adha is a is a reminder of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, that he intended in the same spirit of submission to the Divine. Allah (God) had granted Ibrahim a son at a very old age. When this beloved son, Ismail was a young boy, Ibrahim saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his son. Since the dreams of the Prophets are true, Ibrahim deduced that this was the Divine Will. He resolved to fulfill this command and discussed his dream with his son. Ismail assured his father that he would be steadfast in Allah’s command. When Ibrahim was about to implement his dream, the knife became blunt and ineffective. Eventually, he heard a voice saying: “You have fulfilled the dream (vision)!”. In commemoration of this spirit of sacrifice, Allah ordered the followers of the Prophet Muhammad to sacrifice an animal on the occasion of Eid-ul Adha. For this reason, Prophet Muhammad described this festival as “The Sunnah of your father Ibrahim”. Qurbani or sacrifice is synonymous with surrender. It symbolizes that the person performing Qurbani is willing to sacrifice everything dear to him for the Divine. Like all religious festivals irrespective of their origin, Eids, particularly Eid-ul-Adha, is a time to share food and put on good clothes. Since every household either sacrifices an animal or receives meat from others as a gift, meat delicacies are cooked and consumed by all. Young girls and elderly women alike put henna on their hands and wear bangles. While the essence of the Eid-ul-Adha remains consistent, the customs and traditions surrounding it vary from region to region. In many regions, local customs and celebratory rituals have also become part of the Eid celebration. In China, incense and lanterns are lit, in Malaysia children take out celebratory processions, and in Africa communal meals are cooked at central locations and food is shared.

Perhaps nowhere is the display of the joy of Eid-ul-Adha more evident than in the birthplace of Islam, Saudi Arabia. Millions of Muslim pilgrims who gather in Saudi Arabia from all over the world engage in communal prayers at the Grand Mosque and festivities continue with the sacrificial slaughter of animals and the distribution of meat at scale that would have few parallels. According to some estimates over a million animals are sacrificed by pilgrims before they take off their Ahram , the sacred white robe that they put on at the start of the Hajj rituals. Since all the meat can not be consumed by the locals and the pilgrims, Saudi government makes arrangements for most of this meat to be sent to other parts of the world, where Muslim communities are in distress or do not possess ample means to offer their Qurbani . Many charitable organizations and philanthropists also sacrifice a large number of animals and distribute the meat amongst those with less means. It makes it possible for many, who cannot usually consume animal proteins due to it being costly, to also sample meat at least once during the year.

As the new year begins, let us also start anew. I’m delighted to extend, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and in my own name, new year’s greeting and sincere wishes to YOULIN magazine’s staff and readers.

Only in hard times can courage and perseverance be manifested. Only with courage can we live to the fullest. 2020 was an extraordinary year. Confronted by the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Pakistan supported each other and took on the challenge in solidarity. The ironclad China-Pakistan friendship grew stronger as time went by. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects advanced steadily in difficult times, become a standard-bearer project of the Belt and Road Initiative in balancing pandemic prevention and project achievement. The handling capacity of the Gwadar Port has continued to rise and Afghanistan transit trade through the port has officially been launched. The Karakoram Highway Phase II upgrade project is fully open to traffic. The Lahore Orange Line project has been put into operation. The construction of Matiari-Lahore HVDC project was fully completed. A batch of green and clean energy projects, such as the Kohala and Azad Pattan hydropower plants have been substantially promoted. Development agreement for the Rashakai SEZ has been signed. The China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future has become closer and closer.

Reviewing the past and looking to the future, we are confident to write a brilliant new chapter. The year 2021 is the 100th birthday of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The 100-year journey of CPC surges forward with great momentum and China-Pakistan relationship has flourished in the past 70 years. Standing at a new historic point, China is willing to work together with Pakistan to further implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, connect the CPEC cooperation with the vision of the “Naya Pakistan”, promote the long-term development of the China-Pakistan All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with love, dedication and commitment. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan said, “We are going through fire. The sunshine has yet to come.” Yes, Pakistan’s best days are ahead, China will stand with Pakistan firmly all the way.

YOULIN magazine is dedicated to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan and is a window for Pakistani friends to learn about China, especially the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is hoped that with the joint efforts of China and Pakistan, YOULIN can listen more to the voices of readers in China and Pakistan, better play its role as a bridge to promote more effectively people-to-people bond.

Eid ul Adha is all about sacrifice, prayers, and new clothes:

Eid al Adha which is one of the greatest events for Muslims is also known as the festival of sacrifice and it is based on Ibrahim’s devotion to sacrifice his son instead Allah Almighty gave him a lamb to sacrifice and the Muslims repeat this ritual every year.  The sacrifice is done in the name of takbeer and after that, the meat of the sacrificed animal is shared among all the family and especially poor and deserving people. The Muslims make early arrangements to slaughter animals and follow the same willingness of Prophet Ibrahim.

The celebrations of Eid ul Adha last for 3 days unlike Eid ul Fitr which is celebrated for one day and Muslims continue to sacrifice animals during all three days of Eid.  Apart from the sacrifice, everything is the same as prayers in the mosque and wearing new clothes and thanking Allah for the blessings He has given us, and greeting Eid Mubarak to everyone.

Eid al-Adha tradition and Muslim practices:

The celebrations of Eid ul Azhar are initiated when people say takbeer loud to sacrifice the animal.  All the men women and children seem happy in their finest clothes and they congratulate each other.  The basic purpose of this Eid is to share the meat with other Muslims who cannot afford the sacrifice of an animal in the name of God.  Eid al-Adha is is a symbol of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his only son in the name of Allah.

This means that we should love Allah and should be willing to sacrifice our most beloved thing in the name of Allah with a positive gesture.  The meat of an animal that is to be sacrificed is divided into three basic parts.  One part of the meat is kept for the family members while the second part is shared among friends and relatives and the third part is for the poor and needy people.

 What is the connection between Eid ul Adha and Hajj?

This Eid marks the end of Hajj which is a five-day religious journey to the Grand Mosque of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.  Haj is an important pillar of Islam and we witness that millions of Muslims make a pilgrimage every year and do their Hajj.  There is a strong connection between Eid al Adha and Hajj because Hajj is completed on this Eid and Muslims around the world complete their Holy ritual along with the sacrifice of an animal.

Eid Ul Adha is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all around the world. It commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to God. Muslims believe that Ibrahim was willing to make this sacrifice because he loved God more than anything else in the world.

On Eid Ul Adha, Muslims typically perform a special prayer, visit family and friends, and share food. The meat from the sacrificed animal is usually divided into three parts: one for the family, one for friends and relatives, and one for the poor and needy.

عید الاضحٰی پر ایک مضمون

ہمارے ملک میں مختلف ذات اور مذہب کے لوگ رہتے ہیں۔ ہر سال ہم مختلف تہواروں کو بڑی خوشی کے ساتھ مناتے ہیں۔ عیدالاضحی ان تہواروں میں سے ایک ہے جسے ہم مختلف ناموں سے بھی جانتے ہیں۔ عید الاضحٰی اور بقرہ عید۔ یہ اسلام مذہب کا ایک خاص تہوار ہے جسے پوری دنیا کے مسلمان مناتے ہیں۔ اسے قربانی کا تہوار بھی کہتے ہیں۔

عید الاضحی کے معنیٰ

یہ عربی زبان کا لفظ ہے اور اس کی مراد “قربانی” سے ہے۔ اس کا مطلب ہے “قربانی کی عید”۔ یہ تہوار رمضان کے مقدس مہینے کے اختتام کے تقریباً 70 دن بعد منایا جاتا ہے۔ عرب ممالک میں اسے عید الاضحی کے نام سے جانا جاتا ہے اور ہندوستان میں یہ بقرہ عید کے نام سے جانا جاتا ہے۔ یہ ایک بہت بڑا مسلم تہوار ہے جو بنیادی طور پر حضرت ابراھیم علیہ السلام کی سنت ہے جو حضرت ابراھیم علیہ السلام کے ایمان اور اللّٰہ تعالیٰ پر انکی عقیدت کو بیان کرتی ہے۔ مسلمانوں کے عقیدہ کے مطابق ، ابراہیم علیہ السلام کو اپنے بیٹے کو ذبح کرنے کا ایک خواب آیا لیکن انہوں نے اس پر دھیان نہیں دیا ۔ جب تین دن تک لگاتار وہی خواب آیا تو آپ کو یہ محسوس ہوا کہ یقیناً یہ خواب اللّٰہ تعالیٰ ہی کی طرف سے ہی اور کیونکہ نبیوں کے خواب سچّے ہی ہوتے ہیں۔ اسلیے وہ اس بات کے لیے بنا کچھ سوچے سمجھے اللّٰہ تعالیٰ کا حکم سمجھ کر راضی ہو گئے۔ اگرچہ وہ ایک اچھے آدمی تھے اور اپنے بیٹے سے بہت پیار کرتے تھے ، لیکن خدا کے ساتھ ان کی عقیدت اور اعتقاد اتنا مضبوط تھا کہ اُنہوں نے اپنے ہی پیارے بیٹے اسماعیل علیہ السلام کی جان لینے سے بھی دریغ نہیں کیا۔ اور جرأت مندانہ اقدام اور اپنے بیٹے کی قربانی دینے پر راضی ہو گئے۔ اللہ کی خاطر اپنے بیٹے کی قربانی کے لئے ابراہیم علیہ السلام کی رضا مندی نے اللہ تعالیٰ کی رحمت کو جوش دلایا اور اللّٰہ تعالیٰ نے انکے بیٹے کی جان بچانے کا سبب پیدا کیا، اور اسی وقت اسماعیل علیہ السلام کی جگہ قربان ہونے کے لیے جبرئیل علیہ السلام کے ذریعے قربانی کے لیے ایک مینڈھا بھیجا۔ یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے ابراھیم علیہ السلام کے لیے ایک انعام تھا ۔ تاریخ اسلام کے اس مقدس واقعہ کی وجہ سے ہی تمام مسلمان ہر سال اللہ کی رحمتوں اور مغفرت کے لیے حضرت ابراھیم علیہ السلام کی سنت کے مطابق عید الاضحی مناتے ہیں۔

عید الاضحی بھی عید الفطر ہی کی طرح ایک مقدس دن ہے جو ہر سال دنیا بھر میں قربانی کرکے منایا جاتا ہے۔ عید الاضحی کو بقرہ عید کے نام سے بھی جانا جاتا ہے اور یہ اسلام کا دوسرا اہم تہوار ہے۔ عید الاضحی 10 ذی الحجہ کو حج کے مہینے میں اس وقت ہوتی ہے جب مکہ مکرمہ کے تمام عازمین حج کے واجبات انجام دیتے ہیں۔ پوری دنیا کے مسلمان اس مقدس تہوار عید الاضحی کے لئے بھرپور تیاری کرتے ہیں۔ تمام مسلمان قربانی کے لئے جانور خریدتے ہیں۔ اس کا چاند دس دن پہلے دیکھائی دیتا ہے اور اگلے دس دن کے بعد عید الاضحی منائی جاتی ہے۔ سب بہت خوش نظر آتے ہیں۔ اس دن وہ صبح سویرے اٹھتے ہیں، دانت صاف کرتے ہیں، نہاتے ہیں اور بہترین لباس پہنتے ہیں اور خوشبو بھی لگاتے ہیں۔

لوگ عید گاہ میں نماز پڑھتے ہیں۔ نماز سورج طلوع ہونے کے بعد ادا کی جاسکتی ہے۔ نماز اور خطبات کے اختتام پر مسلمان ایک دوسرے کو گلے لگاتے ہیں اور ایک دوسرے کو مبارکباد دیتے ہیں۔

بہت سارے مسلمان اس موقع پر اپنے غیر مسلم دوستوں، پڑوسیوں، ساتھی کارکنوں اور ہم جماعتوں کو اپنے عید کے تہواروں پر دعوت دیتے ہیں تاکہ وہ اسلام اور مسلم ثقافت سے بہتر طور پر واقف ہوں۔ ہر طرف خوشی اور مسرت کا ماحول رہتا ہے۔

Eid-ul-Adha or “Bari Eid” is one of the two most awaited festivals in Pakistan. Although there are many ways in which this festival is celebrated all over the world, in Pakistan due to our cultural diversity, it becomes even more colorful.

Significance of Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”, reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) sacrifice in the name of Allah. In addition, one of the biggest lessons drawn from this Eid is to share with the needy. Its celebrations start on the 10th day of Zilhaj (Dhuʻl-Hijjah).

There are two different Eid’s (Celebration Festivals) in Islam. One is Eid-ul-Fitr, which is celebrated on the completion of the Holy Month of Ramadan; and the second is Eid ul Adha , the greater Eid, which follows the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, at the time of Qurbani (sacrifice)

Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W) said “It is a tradition that has come down to us from Ibrahim”. Eid al-Adha, which means “the feast of the sacrifice”, celebrates Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah (S.W.T). Eid al-Adha is one of the most important holiday in Islam. It marks the end of Hajj, a pilgrimage to Makkah that all Muslims must make at least once in their lifetime if they are physically and financially able to do so. The holiday celebrates Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (A.S) as an act of obedience to Allah (S.W.T).

It is celebrated in the first 10 days of the Holy Month of Dhul Hijjah, last month of the Islamic year and has its own set of important rituals that are followed by Muslims all over the world. The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, with each month starting on a new moon. Eid al-Adha is an important holiday in Islam.

Eid al-Adha is a three day festival and is celebrated on 10th day of Dhul Hijjah in Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Pakistan and some other parts of the world. On this day all Muslims offer prayers at Masjid, Eid Gah, Grounds or any open and wide land. They pray to Allah for forgiveness for their sins over past 12 months as well as make dua (prayer) for themselves, friends and family members who are living in different parts of world with them.

When Is Eid Ul Adha in Pakistan 2022:

Eid al-Adha is the second most important religious holiday in Islam, and it falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. This year, Eid al-Adha falls on July 10, 2022 (sunday) in Pakistan .

Eid al-Adha marks the end of the annual hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and is a time for Muslims to remember Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his own son for Allah. According to Islamic tradition, Allah spared Ibrahim’s son Ismail, and replaced him with a ram.

Eid al-Adha is an important holiday in Islam:

The festival of sacrifice begins with the historical event when Hazrat Ibrahim (as) was commanded by Allah Almighty in a dream to sacrifice his son Ismail in the way of Allah. In obedience to this command, while he was sacrificing his son Ismail, Allah Almighty sent the angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) with a ram. Gabriel told Ibrahim that his dream had come true and that Allah had instructed him to sacrifice a ram as a ransom for his son. This story is written the Holy Quran in Chapter No. 37.

On this great deed, Allah Almighty commanded the Muslim Ummah on the Day of Resurrection to offer sacrifices in the way of Allah in remembrance of this deed.

During Eid al-Adha, Muslims who can afford and who meets the requirements, it must perform an animal sacrifice as a reminder of this history; this practice is known as qurbani in Islam, which means “sacrifice.” While many families choose goats or sheeps, cows and camels are common among some communities because they have great significance in Islam—they represent purity and generosity according to Islamic tradition because they give milk without being asked for it first. In fact, one reason why Muslims do this ritual every year during Eid al-Adha has little if anything directly related with religion!

Sunnahs of Eid al Adha and Eid Prayer:

Our Problem Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) teaches us some Sunnah to do before or on Eid day which are as under

• Wake up early in the morning.
• Do Miswak, if not then clean your teeth with brush.
• Take a bath.
• Wear new or best clothes.
• Apply perfume.
• Use Oil to hairs
• Refrain from eating before the Eid prayer.
• Try to reach early for Eid Prayer.
• Listen the Khutba (Sermon)
• Recite the Takbir of Tashriq in a loud while going for Eid prayer.

اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ ، وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ

Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, Allahu akbar laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar, Allaah akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd

عید الاضحیٰ کی سنتیں

صبح سویرے اٹھنا۔ مسواک کریں، اگر نہیں تو برش سے دانت صاف کریں۔ غسل کریں نئے یا بہترین کپڑے پہنیں۔ اچھی سی خوشبو لگائیں۔ بالوں میں تیل کا استعمال کریں۔ عید کی نماز سے پہلے کھانے سے پرہیز کریں۔ عید کی نماز کے لیے جلدی پہنچنے کی کوشش کریں۔ خطبہ دھیان سے اور خاموشی سے سنیں نمازِ عید کے لیے جاتے وقت اونچی آواز میں تشریق کی تکبیریں پڑھیں۔

اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اور اللہ کا شکر ہے۔

There are small and big Eid gatherings all over the world every year. The largest gathering in Mandi Bahauddin District is at the Markazi Eid Gah. Eid-ul-Adha prayers will be offered at 7 am in Mandi Bahauddin Eid Gah.

Paragraph 1 – 100 words.

In an Islamic nation, people sacrifice a male goat for the fest. The sacrifice of animals for a special purpose is a symbol of truth for Muslim communities. The dishes like Mutton Biryani, Mutton Keema, Mutton Korma, Sheer Kurma, etc. are cooked on the Eid-Al-Adha.

We greet and wish them ‘Eid Mubarak.’ We share the joy of this auspicious day with them with gifts, sweets, and savouries. These things strengthen the bond we have between families and communities. 

Not to mention, Eid is also an important time to visit those who are ill as well as the elderly who cannot go out to celebrate the festival with everyone. The adult men of the house are also encouraged to visit the graveyard to pay respects to those who are no longer with us.

Millions of Muslims across the globe — including in countries like India, Indonesia, Turkey, Russia and Pakistan — are celebrating Eid al-Adha, Islam’s most revered observance.

Known as the Feast of Sacrifice or “big Eid,” it is one of the two major religious festivals of Islam. The other, Eid al-Fitr, occurs at the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

In Pakistan, the faithful crowded into mosques and prayer grounds on Saturday to offer prayers and sacrifice goats and cows.

Security was tight, as religious extremists have carried out bombings across the country in recent years.

“Today, we are here to offer Eid prayers,” said Saleem Ahmed at a ceremony in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, Reuters reported. “The security arrangements were very good. May Allah approve our prayers.”
