SZA Shares DM From Fan Asking for Math Homework Help: ‘Oh B*tch Ur Cooked’

The singer once said she's "never off the clock" for her fans, but being a math tutor probably wasn't what she had in mind.

Sorry, SZA won’t be able to help you with your math homework.

The SOS singer clearly loves her fans and is willing to do what she can to give back to them within her means. However, the 34-year-old might have met her match when a fan slid into her DMs and asked for help with geometry.

“Sza I’m failing geometry can you give me math tips?” asked the fan, as seen in a screenshot shared to SZA’s Instagram Story on Wednesday.

“Lmaooo ma’am I’m a math dummy, I’m not sure what u expected 😂” SZA responded. “Tell me bout the shapes chile. How can I help?”

The fan replied with a photo of her geometry worksheet, to which SZA hilarious wrote back, “Oh bitch ur cooked 😭.”

While SZA couldn't help the fan with their math assignment, the artist prides herself on being mostly available to her fans. For her October 2023 Rolling Stone cover story , the “ Kill Bill ” singer told the magazine that she is “ never off the clock for my fans .”

“They’re my family, and they’re my people. I know what it’s like to feel small or like somebody doesn’t care, because that’s who I was my whole life. In middle school, elementary school, I wasn’t popular,” said SZA.

She continued, “So I try to make sure n***as know ‘I hear you, I see you. I have time to stop for you. Yes, we can smoke together, you can come backstage. You can come to my house if you want.’ Hella fans have spent the night with me and been to my house many times.”

“How do I determine who’s safe to do that? I don’t. And sometimes it feels really bad,” she added.

Generative AI Transformed English Homework. Math Is Next

ChatGPT has already wreaked havoc on classrooms and changed how teachers approach writing homework, since OpenAI publicly launched the generative AI chatbot in late 2022. School administrators rushed to try to detect AI-generated essays , and in turn, students scrambled to find out how to cloak their synthetic compositions. But by focusing on writing assignments, educators let another seismic shift take place in the periphery: students using AI more often to complete math homework too.

Right now, high schoolers and college students around the country are experimenting with free smartphone apps that help complete their math homework using generative AI . One of the most popular options on campus right now is the Gauth app , with millions of downloads. It’s owned by ByteDance, which is also TikTok’s parent company.

The Gauth app first launched in 2019 with a primary focus on mathematics, but soon expanded to other subjects as well, like chemistry and physics. It’s grown in relevance, and neared the top of smartphone download lists earlier this year for the education category. Students seem to love it. With hundreds of thousands of primarily positive reviews, Gauth has a favorable 4.8 star rating in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store .

All students have to do after downloading the app is point their smartphone at a homework problem, printed or handwritten, and then make sure any relevant information is inside of the image crop. Then Gauth’s AI model generates a step-by-step guide, often with the correct answer.

From our testing on high-school-level algebra and geometry homework samples, Gauth’s AI tool didn’t deliver A+ results and particularly struggled with some graphing questions. It performed well enough to get around a low B grade or a high C average on the homework we fed it. Not perfect, but also likely good enough to satisfy bored students who'd rather spend their time after school doing literally anything else.

The app struggled more on higher levels of math, like Calculus 2 problems, so students further along in their educational journey may find less utility in this current generation of AI homework-solving apps.

Yes, generative AI tools , with a foundation in natural language processing, are known for failing to generate accurate answers when presented with complex math equations. But researchers are focused on improving AI’s abilities in this sector, and an entry-level high school math class is likely well within the reach of current AI homework apps. Will has even written about how researchers at Google DeepMind are ecstatic about recent results from testing a math-focused large language model, called AlphaProof , on problems shown at this year’s International Math Olympiad.

To be fair, Gauth positions itself as an AI study company that’s there to “ace your homework” and help with difficult problems, rather than a cheating aid. The company even goes so far as to include an “ Honor Code ” on its website dictating proper usage. “Resist the temptation to use Gauth in ways that go against your values or school’s expectations,” reads the company’s website. So basically, Gauth implicitly acknowledges impulsive teenagers may use the app for much more than the occasional stumper, and wants them to pinkie promise that they’ll behave.

Prior to publication, a spokesperson for ByteDance did not answer a list of questions about the Gauth app when contacted by WIRED over email.

It’s easy to focus on Gauth’s limitations, but millions of students now have a free app in their pocket that can walk them through various math problems in seconds , with decent accuracy. This concept would be almost inconceivable to students from even a few years ago.

You could argue that Gauth promotes accessibility for students who don’t have access to quality education or who process information at a slower pace than their teacher’s curriculum. It’s a perspective shared by proponents of using AI tools, like ChatGPT, in the classroom. As long as the students all make it to the same destination, who cares what path they took on the journey? And isn’t this just the next evolution in our available math tools? We moved on from the abacus to the graphing calculator, so why not envision generative AI as another critical step forward?

I see value in teachers thoughtfully employing AI in the classroom for specific lessons or to provide students with more personalized practice questions. But I can’t get out of my head how this app, if students overly rely on it, could hollow out future generations’ critical thinking skills—often gleaned from powering through frustrating math classes and tough homework assignments. (I totally get it, though, as an English major.)

Educational leaders are missing the holistic picture if they continue to focus on AI-generated essays as the primary threat that could undermine the current approach to teaching. Instead of arduous assignments to complete outside of class, maybe centering in-class math practice could continue to facilitate positive learning outcomes in the age of AI.

If Gauth and apps like it eventually lead to the demise of math homework for high schoolers, throngs of students will breathe a collective sigh of relief. How will parents and educators respond? I’m not so sure. That remains an open question, and one for which Gauth can’t calculate an answer yet either.

Dad makes hilarious plea to schools for sparing parents from math homework: 'We're struggling'

This dad had enough of the advanced and crazy homework kids bring home and hysterically pointed out how difficult it is for parents.

One of the wildest things parents come across while raising kids is to help them with education, primarily school and homework. With all the advanced studies and growing intellect of kids, it is a task to help kids with schoolwork. Many parents find themselves dumbfounded when solving basic  kids’ homework and honestly, they are not to blame. T. Murph—who goes by @tmurph on TikTok—shared a video hilariously requesting schools to rework the  tedious schoolwork they have planned for kids and make it easier. Murph even outlined valid reasons that are relatable to all parents.

“Do not start sending all the homework home, alright? It’s hard, we’re struggling,” the dad confessed. He further highlighted that parents mostly come from work in the evenings and are tired and  mentally exhausted  and can not afford to think to solve high-level problems. “These kids bring all these foreign problems we ain’t seen since 1996. Y’all gotta understand that most of these parents have been out of school for at least a decade, if not more,” Murph pointed out. He also explained that due to the pandemic , e-learning “took 85% of what was left in our brain capacity.”

“So this last 15% gotta last me until I get a body here on earth side,” the dad humorously said. “This homework is too new and difficult. I don’t even remember what an adjective and pronoun is. I graduated too long ago to remember this,” he added. Coming to the monster math homework many parents dread, Murph spoke for many, saying, “Teachers , when you send this math homework home, you better send a cheat sheet with it. If you don’t want to send it with the kids, at least send a Google Doc or email it so we can know what we’re doing,” he requested.

The dad then elaborated that math is much more advanced and different from what it was during his time in school. “You don’t even carry numbers anymore. When did we stop doing that?” he asked. The dad then requested, “Help us help you help these kids at school.” Sharing an outrageously hilarious threat, Murph concluded, “If you want these kids to do the work, make it school work. If not, if you keep us struggling, I’ll let you know what I think about you in the next Parent-teacher conference.” Fellow parents were bursting with laughter at the accuracy of Murphy’s experience.

Every parent could relate to the tedious work they’re forced to wreck their brains on due to their kids’ homework. @hakuna_matata_tye hilariously said, “They had the nerve to tell me my son copy-pasted the answers. No, I did that, we didn’t know what else to do.” @mightycorgis added, “These new math problems have extraterrestrial methods of figuring it out.” @maiteg04 said, “As a parent and teacher, I agree! Kids do enough work at school and need to be kids and play at home.” @qualaj99 said, “Math is sorcery at this point. Don’t send my kids home with nonsense, we are going to Google each answer.”

Scott Disick Teams Up with Daughter Penelope, 10, for Relatable TikTok About Math Homework

Penelope Disick may have to look outside her house for help with her math homework.

In a TikTok video posted Saturday, the 10-year-old daughter of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick teased that her dad "knows less than" she does when it comes to the subject.

"In math class when I don't know what's going on and I come home and my dad knows less than what's going on," she captioned a TikTok video in which Penelope and Scott gesture along to the viral "I don't know what's going on, and I simply don't want to know" audio clip.

Penelope is back to hitting the books after a busy summer with friends and family.

In July, Penelope turned "double digits" with mom Kourtney, stepfather Travis Barker 's daughter Atiana De La Hoya , aunt Kim Kardashian and grandmother Kris Jenner all sending her celebratory wishes on social media.

De La Hoya posted a shot of the birthday girl blowing out her candles on a smiley-face cake, while Kourtney shared a series of Instagram Stories in which the Poosh founder, 43, showed her family's very special pre-birthday celebrations.

"My daughter is turning 10 tomorrow!!!!!" Kourtney wrote over photos of heart-shaped sustainable and biodegradable pink balloons. The reality star also shared a snap of heart-shaped vegan grilled cheeses with marinara sauce – all on a matching pink plate.

"Happy birthday to my little love bug Penelope!!!! From the moment you were born you have been the most precious, adorable, sweet, kind, smart, creative, imaginative, funny, witty, adventurous, thoughtful and lovable girl and you are the most amazing granddaughter, daughter, cousin, niece, BFF, chef extraordinaire, beauty expert, shopping buddy, stylist, and expert skier there is!!!" Scott Disick is leaning into his “Talentless” brand.

The reality star’s 10-year-old daughter, Penelope Disick, took a hilarious jab at him in a new TikTok video about parents trying to help their kids with math homework.

“In math class when I don’t know what’s going on and I come home and my dad knows less than what’s going on,” Penelope, whom Scott shares with ex Kourtney Kardashian, captioned the clip.

The post featured the father-daughter duo looking puzzled with pencils and pads in hand, as they lip-synced over a popular audio clip.

“I don’t know what’s going on and I simply don’t want to know,” they said, mouthing the words.

“Scott Disick trying to do elementary level math homework has me in tears Penelope sweetie I am so sorry,” one Twitter user hilariously wrote, while another chimed in, “He’s the best dad.”

Penelope’s TikTok account, which has more than four million followers, is managed by her Poosh founder mom.

The duo most recently came under fire after the pre-teen shared a clip of her makeup routine.

In the since-deleted video, which was captioned “Have a good morning 😊😊,” Penelope was seen putting on a pink headband before prepping her skin with a serum.

She then applied concealer under her eyes and on her cheekbones and forehead, blending it in with a beauty blender.

Penelope completed the look with eye shadow, mascara and lip gloss.

The seemingly innocent video was quickly slammed by commenters who suggested she was way too young to be wearing so much makeup.

“I have a 10 year old. Just no. They have only a few more years of pure innocence left before they start learning about becoming an adult,” one critic wrote on Reddit,  via The Sun,  while another said, “I can’t believe she is 10 and people are supporting this.”

A third follower argued that the main issue was that Kardashian, 43, and Scott, 39, allowed Penelope to share the video publicly.

“There’s nothing wrong with a little kid experimenting with make up and stuff but for it to be published to the world to see gives me the irk…I guess I’m ‘old school,’” they wrote.
